Read "Lajja" by Taslima Nasrin. What happens there is relatively recent. In that book, there is a certain section about what happens to men who defy or try to oppose the evils being committed by the chieftain.
After reading about that, try to think about how can a person remain strong in such humiliation. I hope you will find your answer there.

Or you can read "Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseni.

@WillieWong That depends on how you're using infinity. In the usual analytic sense, used with limits, etc. skullpatrol's definition works (infinity is a concept, not a number or element of a set). When talking about the one-point compactification of $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$, then there is a definite element. For set theory, it doesn't because there is not one infinity there.
