18:00
Well today's is one of the more hostile transcripts I've read in a while.
@ChrisHateZ Fine. Don't believe me.
@ChrisHateZ He is. Except when he's wrong. Because then I'm right. I'm frequently right.
@fbueckert I believe that you believe that you're awesome. I also believe we have different definitions of awesome.
@TrentHawkins Only in your mind.
@Fluttershy I'm sorry.
18:01
You're only right when I say you're right.
Which happens rarely.
rofl
@fbueckert His one post had a typo.
somebody on steam just linked me to pictures of myself dressed like a nurse out of my tree in a nightclub
@kalina say what
@kalina Now you link us to them.
18:04
You lost me at "out of my tree in a nightclub".
@ShotgunNinja drugs
You own a tree, which is in a nightclub?
Now i have to go.
@ChrisHateZ Seeya
I know you guys are going to miss me, but i really have to leave for a while.
@ShotgunNinja Later xD
18:05
@ChrisHateZ Awww, don't go bby
<3
@ShotgunNinja "out of my tree" = "off my face", "not in possession of all of my faculties", "three fries short of a happy meal", etc
@kalina Smashed out of your mind.
yes
@kalina Wasted.
unable to correctly control my overwhelming need to pull faces whenever somebody points a camera at me
18:06
pics pls
dives for cover
I don't link pictures of me on the internet
@kalina fair enough. I do.
why these pictures of me even exist is beyond me
First complaint, I remove it.
though I'm rather impressed at how the costume turned out.
hence my desire to post pictures of myself.
18:08
@fbueckert Character and environment
@kalina Apparently your friends do, though.
@GraceNote don't even go there
all kinds of hatred on steam atm
Not really going anywhere, it's not of my interest to see pictures of folk in any circumstance. But if you don't want them flying about, is good time to start with countermeasures.
Not that we didn't already know (this is pretty standard):
@BenBrocka The Xbone is running Windows 7?
Or the fact that it had to be fixed?
18:13
@fbueckert could be worse - could be windows 8.
@fbueckert No it's an actual PC. The Xbone demos are running on PC (allegedly it's so they don't lose devkits if someone steals it)
@BenBrocka Oh. Didn't notice that.
So it's basically just running PC architecture.
@fbueckert Yes, and so is the PS4.
We already knew this before E3.
@fbueckert both of them are actual PCs that are x86/x64
@kalina See, this I didn't know.
That's smart of them.
18:15
@fbueckert Well they dev on PC anyway
Hopefully, consolitis becomes much less of an issue.
the xbone actually runs Windows 8
@TrentHawkins Some kind of stripped down Windows 8 RT is what the XBO seems to run
I wonder if it'll get apps. I doubt it.
@badp It'll definitely get ads, though.
Also, Windows 8 is more awesome than Windows 7 no matter what the internet at large says, see also Windows Vista vs Windows XP
18:18
Metro is all the dumbs
3
Metro is the only thing in existence in the world of desktops that can make proper use of retina-class displays
What OS X does is kind of a kludge where it just scales everything up 2×
In case you're wondering why your tablets are getting "retina" displays but your laptops aren't, that's why
But still, @badp, there's an awful lot that Windows 8 fucked up right out of the door... I'm still in agreement with the Windows Red proposal.
Gnome/GTK/Unity has the software support required to almost guarantee that doubling the size of all the labels doesn't break anything, but images will likely look blurry as hell still.
High DPI scaling of images has to be done image-side, the OS can't really do shit about that. And there isn't even a solid draft of how HTML will even handle responsive images yet
@BenBrocka High DPI settings have been a thing in Windows since Windows 95
18:22
@badp So you can see those giant monocolor rectangles so much more clearly?
Of course nobody's been using them
@badp yeah and it doesn't matter for images at all
You can't just make a raster image have 2x as much detail
@BenBrocka The thing is everybody seems to be hell bent on building shitty themed programs that don't use stock controls and thus ignore all the DPI settings, rather than something that works.
Sure the stock controls are rather limiting at times but that doesn't mean you need to reinvent the fucking window borders - and if you do then do it right like Office 2013 apparently does.
@ShotgunNinja This article strikes me as rather ignorant
> Windows Red Pro: The PC version of Red is designed solely for keyboard and mouse interaction; gone is support for touchscreens, which are ergonomically dangerous on PCs. Based on Windows 7, Windows Red Pro uses Metro's cleaner design cues, runs Metro applications alongside legacy Windows apps, and uses the Metro concept of live tiles.
What the hell does this even mean?
@badp They're giving what they think Windows 8 should be.
"please redmond bring back the part where you turn features on and off arbitrarily"
18:26
Hey, take it up with them if you disagree.
I frankly don't give a shit.
Oh, so you agree with them, but you don't give a shit about it. Sure
No, I don't give a shit about you disagreeing with them.
Just like you clearly don't give a shit about me agreeing with them.
I'm in a rather sour mood.
I clearly give a shit because I'm talking to you. But whatever, you're not in the mood for it apprarently.
I know you're better than listening to ignorant shit like "The tablet version of Red is an enhanced Windows RT, the Metro-only version of Windows 8 designed for touch environments. It runs only Metro apps" but that's just out of my respect for your intelligence. Which is kind of a backhanded compliment if you can take it.
Otherwise, oh well.
@GraceNote Psst, I think we have some messages that need to be moved to Android Hell.
Hm?
Oh what.
18:41
I hath returned
So... Kingdom Hearts 2 was released three months before Versus XIII was announced. This was seven years ago. Seven years and still no Versus XIII/XV. Compound that with the fact that Tetsuya Nomura says they revealed KH3 "too early," and we're looking at at least five years before KH3.
That's my guess, at least.
@Fluttershy 5 years?I don't expect it particularly soon but that seems extreme
@Fluttershy I thought Versus XIII was renamed to FF XV
@Powerlord It was. But that doesn't change the fact that it was revealed 7 years ago and it only just now got renamed/re-revealed.
And I don't think it has a release date yet, does it?
@BenBrocka Just my personal opinion. I don't give Squeenix much credit anymore.
18:49
@Fluttershy Versus XII was initially being developed for the PS3 though. Switching XV to the PS4 would draw out development quite a bit more.
@Fluttershy I sincerely hope not. We've already waited too long for it.
@james you were trying to make a kilt, right? I think you might need to unlock "pro" designs to be able to pattern a skirt. Pro designs can make dresses, which normal designs can't, so I think skirts should work too
@BenBrocka Nope
There is apparently no way to pattern pants/skirts
@James doesn't work?
Only shirts, dresses, hats and umbrellas.
18:51
@Ullallulloo KH3 was supposed to be developed for PS3.
FAE
FAE
@BenBrocka I thought this too, but nope. :(
@Fluttershy This is the first time they've mentioned it.
Also, folks, don't forget, Arma 3 is entering beta later this month - the price is supposed to go up. And as we all know Arma, there will be mods. All the mods. And the mods will be glorious. And everyone will make you play these mods, if you don't have a good excuse not to.
I kind of doubt they worked on a PS3 version of KH3 at all.
@BenBrocka There is actually a skirt called 'Kilt' that they will not make fun of you as a guy for buying
18:52
@FEichinger No, no, no... if Uber taught me anything it's that the beta should cost more, not less!
@Powerlord I'm gonna say it again: It's Uber, what did you expect?
Seriously, if there wasn't a (this time literally) backwards pricing scheme involved, it wouldn't be Uber.
@James Ah, well there you go
@Ullallulloo I heard in the past that KH3 was going to be "next-gen". That was before the Ps2. I wasn't expecting them to mean "next-next gen."
@Fluttershy I hope you mean before the Ps3, since KH 1 is a PS2 game.
@BenBrocka Yeah I found it at @Fluttershy's shop :D
18:56
@Powerlord I did indeed.
@Fluttershy They were planning to get Versus XII done with enough time to make KH3 too before the PS4 was announced.
@FEichinger Already got it :D
They just failed their goal there.
It probably didn't help that Squeenix ended up having to do two different versions of FF14
@Ullallulloo Right. So... I don't expect KH3 for my previously mentioned time because, well... They haven't given me a reason to think otherwise.
18:57
@James I didn't grab it by now, because a) I didn't really have the money and b) I'm still debating using "I don't have the base game anyway" as an excuse if people want to make me play some DayZ-ish crap again. Worked out nicely the last time.
@FEichinger I like private server Day Z
Has there been anymore news about standalone DayZ?
@Fluttershy Nothing big that I have heard.
@Fluttershy about availability? Not that I nkow of. I just heard them talking console ports, but they say PC's coming first
18:59
@Fluttershy PS3, not on XBone I believe.
@Wipqozn hehe, Saw that on imgur a few days ago :)
@Wipqozn Was that in reply to DayZ? <_< I'm on mobile and it doesn't show reply arrows.
@Fluttershy No. It was in reply to... YOUR FACE!!!!
BUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRN
You are not making sense. Life without reply arrows is hard.
It's all up to Xbone's policies. But I don't see the "no self publishing" thing changing on Xbox soon, and they seem adamant to not go with a publisher
War Z is the bad game, Day Z is the good one, right? I can never remember
@BenBrocka Yeh.
@BenBrocka I haven't heard anything about War Z, after Steam re-listed them.
@fbueckert Still horrible. A streamer I watch on Twitch talks about it often. <_<
@Fluttershy They still ensuring people have to pay scads of money to actually play it?
19:07
I didn't even know they were re-listed
@BenBrocka Yeah, they were. I bet War Z freaked out the whole time Steam took them down.
@fbueckert Oh yeah. Apparently it's "wait 5 hours to respawn unless you give us money. Then you only wait an hour."
@Fluttershy Wow, that's stupid.
@fbueckert Not as stupid as the people who play it and defend the company.
@Wipqozn Anyone who defends them is automatically someone who's opinion isn't worth anything.
19:11
@fbueckert Correct.
@Fluttershy yeah I was wondering how the hell that was making it's way to console until I remembered there's two "Z" games going around
I keep confusing War Z with the movie, "World War Z"
I can't tell if that movie's even worth watching.
FAE
FAE
@fbueckert Which has pretty much nothing to do with the book.
@FAE I never read the book.
user20683
Hi Bridge
user20683
19:13
I have booze
user20683
and candy
Hello @World
5
user20683
:D
always wanted to do that
Now that #E3 is over we'd like to remind the press that we'll be happy to answer any and all questions you guys have about sports or TV
2
I hope MS never stops giving me ammo for that account
19:17
@BenBrocka They've been pretty crappy at actually answering the questions thrown at them.
Yeah, their general answer is "get a 360"
which, considering most asking already have one, is effectively "get a PS4"
@BenBrocka Do you actually run TheXbone? Because if you do, you need to fix the artifacting in the avatar.
@StrixVaria I think that might be intentional
@BenBrocka :-}
@StrixVaria Yeah Twitter did that :/ I don't know why, it's not in the source
19:22
@BenBrocka The source is a jpg?
@ShotgunNinja Clever girl.
Um...
> The other interesting twist is that you don't have to keep tracks of things like the number of arrows you have in reserve; everything you do is powered by the green energy meter on the lower right-hand corner of the screen. When you turn yourself into the drawing, the meter goes down. Use your hammer? It uses some of the magic meter. Same with firing an arrow.
@Wipqozn Good thing I'm a guy.
@badp Universal ammo is bad.
Really bad.
It has to disappear.
Are you sure you want to bless this with the title of "Link To The Past 2" @BenBrocka?
19:24
It'd really suck if shooting arrows took coins.
(Bonus points if you get that reference)
@badp Slightly different than Link to the Past, but not by much.
Actually, no, minus points if you don't get that reference.
@fbueckert I'm fairly certain that's not how LTTP worked. I mean, managing arrows and bomb meters isn't exactly fun but having just one AWESOME meter makes me nervous
@FEichinger PNG. Uploaded a fresh, actually square without cropping image, still does it. I'll try shrinking it down to...whatever res they use
@badp That's why I said it's slightly different.
It's probably an attempt to streamline the UI a bit more.
19:26
pathetic that my high-color avatar looks fine but they butcher a solid color, flat image
"Oh no! I've run out of AWESOME! Now all of my items are useless!"
@BenBrocka Try using a clean jpg. twitter changes the type, which means it runs through a new render on their end.
@badp It also means that they have no control whatsoever over whether or not you have the particular needed ammo available for a puzzle.
@FEichinger tbh I don't think they've ever done puzzles like that
same thing
@badp Uhhh, they also said the "Awesome" meter refills over time.
19:29
@ShotgunNinja Welp. That ... that's just so not good.
So you never don't have ammo?
@Sconibulus I hope that's not the case...
@ShotgunNinja "at a leisurely pace." Not sure, besides, how introducing the equivalent of a thumb-sucking regenerating health systems is a good thing
Oh, you weren't defending. Yep, it regenerates anyhow.
considering MS's official @Xbox account has the jpg artifacts as well I'm going to assume it's not actually possible to correct this
Maybe you can still find bottles to speed it up
19:30
@badp They definitely avoided particular mobs, if you were forced to use a particular tool, for instance. And the available ammo was also sometimes a little rigged towards what you needed. At least in my experience (which is indeed quite a long time ago).
I think it's just a funky extension to the Stamina system they used for Skyward Sword.
@badp ...Turtle Rock's biggest problem in ALTTP is that it was possible to run out of magic.
@Powerlord Yeah... if you run out of magic in Turtle Rock, at some sections, you're forced to Mirror back to the entrance.
@Powerlord it's not the same honestly, when it's not just magic but AWESOME
everything in the same meter
Hey Guys ;D
19:33
Will you risk using arrows against enemies if it means waiting 30 seconds before you can thump the mandatory switch at the opposite side of the room?
Yeah, it changes the focus from managing resources to managing time.
@badp Ugh, that sounds REALLY annoying if all items, even stuff like the hammer and hookshot use magic. They never used to even have ammo
what game are you guys talking about??
again, it's probably the stamina meter. I'm not sure if they're getting rid of arrows entirely...
@RustyMembers Scroll up and catch up.
19:35
@badp It recharges in like ten seconds.
i will sir... :D
If they do, then it'll probably be reflected in-game by the lore surrounding the new bow.
@RustyMembers The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2
@Ullallulloo uhhhh...
like, it's now a bow that fires magic arrows or some bullshit.
19:35
A Link Between Worlds.
Or more accurately, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
@ShotgunNinja Fire/ice/light arrows aren't exactly new things
@FAE @BenBrocka @Fluttershy Is it possible to position your house in AC where you can not expand it all the way?
my biggest secret i never played any of the zelda games....
@James game won't let you do that
19:36
@BenBrocka So even though it looks really close all is ok?
Nook stops you and tells you exactly that, this spot doesn't have enough room for expansion
@BenBrocka I thought maybe I could expand and 2nd floor but maybe not the 'wings' added in.
Yeah, get closer to an edge and he'll start rejecting you
unless you mean that the arrows are themselves made of magic?
I'm sorry it turns out I'm being really slow tonight
Oh it did.. I had to wiggle around a few times to get between the river a rock and the cliffs again
19:37
Well, arrows used to be made of money.
@AshleyNunn!!! So do Cupcakes made by a non-blue still taste as awesome as before?
13 mins ago, by Powerlord
It'd really suck if shooting arrows took coins.
@badp yeah, that's what I meant.
And no one seemed to get that reference at the time
@GraceNote I don't think I ever got that far in Zelda 1 if that's what you mean. Silly water dragons
...I didn't try very hard.
19:38
any of you preordered planetary annihilation??
if not you should... the next gen RTS
@RustyMembers No, thank you.
@Powerlord I was eating ice cream, saw that no one responded other than a star from somewhere, so I thought to harken back to you.
@RustyMembers You mean the $90 game on Steam?
user15026
@james I hope so? I'd like to think they do.
i paid 250 USD hehe ;D
19:40
@RustyMembers for what?
but yes that game
Besides which, I suck at RTS.
@RustyMembers And that means you are part of the reason the price is that high to begin with.
You know what's the worst part about classifying it as "the $90 game on Steam"?
As it is, there was already one RTS in recent times that seemed to be the "next gen" one. The one with time travel whose name I've forgotten.
19:40
$90 is €67
Pretty much all "AAA" games are $90 if you are in Europe
Seriously, the 80 bucks they want me to pay, that's half of my entire gaming budget for a month.
the price is taht high because its early acces and the alpha costs 90 USD. the full game vosts 40 USD
@Powerlord Was the time travel with robots? This is really important.
@RustyMembers Yes, and every other game sets the price for early access lower than release.
@GraceNote Of course it was! I think...
19:41
We're not there to fund the game -that's the Kickstarter. We buy the product.
just wait for beta or game release and it will be cheaper
For the composer, see Joseph Achron Achron is considered to be the first "meta-time strategy game" (Real-time strategy with time travel), notable for being the first game with free-form multiplayer time travel and its subtle handling of temporal paradoxes such as the grandfather paradox. Gameplay The unique aspect of gameplay in Achron is the fact that the game proceeds not only in many instances of space, but also in many instances of time. Players can simultaneously and independently play in the past, present, or future. The player can only travel a certain distance into the past - aft...
@GraceNote Can I have a list of RTS games with time-travel and robots, please?
@RustyMembers Why would I? This company lost the last bit of respect I had for it the moment they chose to price their product like that. Early Access != funding.
thats right they should have waited to release the game on steam until final release...
19:42
So of course what does this all mean? The Europe pricing is €90 €82.99, which happens to be $111
How graceful
@badp Before or after VAT?
and the game runs with 20FPS on ALL pcs atm, so no one can play the game in alpha...
@Powerlord After
@Powerlord VAT is always included in € prices.
@FEichinger That was my point, yes. USD and CAD (afaik) don't include any taxes.
FAE
FAE
19:44
@Powerlord Always after VAT
@RustyMembers Then why the hell did you pay 125% of its release price?
i wanted to support the game....
@Powerlord So your $60 game is $60 before taxes?
FAE
FAE
@Powerlord Still doesn't end up equivalent most of the time. See Xbone/PS4 pricing.
@badp You're aware that in the US we have no federal taxes, but some states have taxes and some cities have taxes.
FAE
FAE
19:45
@badp Tax there tends to be only around 7%-9% depending on location.
but anyway the game gonna be the most epic game ever... OR im gonna cry myself to sleep
@Powerlord So what? It could still be $60 everywhere, and in some states the profit margin is lower.
@RustyMembers And you base your expectations on ... what exactly?
Which incidentally is why California is a bad place to buy things in the US because they have iirc state, regional, and in some places city taxes.
Just like in Europe it's €60 after taxes everywhere but VAT varies on a country by country basis
(at least that's how it works on Steam)
19:46
@badp verrrry few places include tax in the price
Usually small mom&pop stuff
@badp Yup, except we didn't do that and no one wants to change now. Besides which, I've pointed out that we actually have more levels of taxes than just one.
@BenBrocka Duh, all places in Europe do so because it's unlawful not to.
astroids crashing into eachother and galactic war....
user20683
@Powerlord Oregon is an excellent place to buy things: no sales tax.
Of course it'd be convenient for corporations to murk up the waters and never tell you what you're actually paying, so that's why they don't get to do it
user20683
19:47
Tennessee is also a bad place to buy things
@RustyMembers Neither of which is in the alpha build, or anywhere outside of a Kickstarter ambitions video.
user20683
10.xx% sales tax
At least, as far as I know.
user15026
@badp in Canada you have provincial tax and federal tax, unless you are like Ontario and have harmonized tax.
@WorldEngineer VAT in Italy is 21%, almost to become 22%
user20683
19:48
@badp yeah
FAE
FAE
@badp We're up to 21% from 19% recentlyish.
user20683
on the plus side, you've got actual healthcare
And, judging from Uber's track record, "fulfilling their promises the way the consumer expected" isn't high on the list.
user15026
(which means 13% on stuff in Ontario)
At any rate, that was my little "$90 game on Steam" rant
19:49
For example, in the US, the price has 0% taxes on it, but italy has a (according to Wikipedia) 21% VAT. If the US price had a 21% tax on it, it'd be $108.90 instead of $90. Which is awfully close to the $111 you mentioned.
FAE
FAE
@Powerlord Yeah, but it... doesn't have that tax, so I'm not sure what you're saying here.
@FAE Technically, I'm supposed to claim any Internet purchases on my state taxes.
@Powerlord This is a thing that zero people do
And the US Government continually tries to pass laws requiring online retailers to collect sales tax on all goods to US Citizens.
And failing. After all, this is the United Corporations of America.
@Powerlord Which would mean the US either gets European style pricing on Internet retailers, or gets ripped off like Australia.
19:52
@FEichinger European style pricing comes with consumer rights like "always see the price after VAT" or "make it hard for companies to discriminate between EU countries through pricing"
@FEichinger No, they'll probably do it like they do taxes in stores now in the US... the up front price will be before taxes and the shopping cart's checkout screen will be after taxes.
@badp Yep.
I don't see that going well in the US. Especially the part about "after VAT" which makes calculating tips that much harder.
@Powerlord Which is something that Steam - to my knowledge - isn't capable of right now.
(Tips are not calculated on VAT right?)
19:53
And I doubt they'd change it just for that.
@FEichinger Nintendo is capable of doing that already, and in fact already does that for the 3DS eShop.
user20683
@badp given the general American's math ability...no, that would go poorly.
Which surprised me the last time I bought points in order to buy the Zelda: Oracles games.
I just tacked on an extra $10 and bought The Starship Damrey which was like $7.
@WorldEngineer Not what I'm asking, I'm saying if you want to tip 20% off something that's 100 before, 110 after taxes, the total comes up to 130, not 132, right?
@Powerlord As I said, I just doubt Valve would change it just to account for that.
user20683
19:55
@badp right
@FEichinger It... really isn't difficult for them to do.
user20683
but unlike many Americans I can do this thing called math.
@badp Tipping off with a fixed percentage is bad, though.
@badp I've always tipped based off the total with taxes included... Now I'm thinking I should change that...
@WorldEngineer we're not that bad at math
user15026
19:56
@feichinger it's totally possible.
user15026
@fluttershy I do the same.
@FEichinger It's very much a cultural thing in the US
@Powerlord But there is zero benefit to them. There'd be exactly one country using it.
user15026
Most people I know do.
user15026
@feichinger could use it here too
user20683
19:56
@Sconibulus I work in retail, I have a jaundiced view of human intelligence.
@Fluttershy I thought everyone tipped based off of the total after taxes.
Like, here we leave a few euros in tips for exceptional service (or, rather, "keep the change")
The country whose population is apparently so bad at math also served as the origin of most of the advancements in computer science throughout the 70s and 80s. EXPLAIN THAT, EUROPEANS AND ASIANS
@FEichinger Their home country and one of their biggest audiences. Besides which, are you throwing Canada under a bus here?
That'd give you very many nasty looks in the US
19:57
@WorldEngineer Oooh, where? I might get to spy on you
@ShotgunNinja I thought you'd say 60s and 70s.
@Powerlord I know. I always have. I'm wondering why though... Easier to total, I guess?
user20683
@Sconibulus that would be telling now wouldn't it.
The big issue with math in the United States is the same as the big issue with education in the United States: No one takes it seriously enough.
@ShotgunNinja Easy! Your legislation makes it easy and cheap for corporations to fund R&D and generally run a business. So they do it there rather than here, and Europeans move to the US to work.
19:58
@Fluttershy Laziness. It's the last number on the bill.
user15026
@fluttershy I find it easier to figure out and it just makes sense*
here's half a =P to go with that
@WorldEngineer Yes... it would be telling, and my question was asking... they kinda go together
user20683
@Sconibulus ;)
@badp I thought we hired people from Asia to work.
19:59
@Powerlord Those too I guess
You'd... be surprised by how many people in the building I currently work in were originally from India.
I know that there's always been talk in Italy about bleeding the talented youth to the US
"We spend on their training and the US profits from it!"
