@GraceNote yeah, I'm kinda surprised there's no item world like thing with scaled enemies considering you're fine at level 99 but there's a way to get to 399
@BenBrocka Which is going to be easier since the overall power of characters is higher in V and more than one person can break damage limit at a time.
Also, Winston Payne is sporting a new look in this game. Again.
Especially since Noire, Blanc, and Plutia are all absolutely ridiculous.
Neptune, Plutia and Peashy are doing the most damage for me right now
But Neptune isn't fair since I somehow how her ultimate weapon or something
I just randomly noticed she breaks the damage limit and I have no idea where I got that weapon
She passively breaks damage limit. Didn't you check all your character's innate passives?
15:03
@YiJiang'sEvilClone I loved the last few seconds. "DOWNLOAD-E CONTENTS. COSTUME-PACCKU."
So... if the TF2 update has the same schedule as the HL2:DM, DoD:S, and CS:S did, we're roughly 2 hours out from the transition.
Officially licensed show accurate 10.5" Pinkie Pie plushie shop.4de.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=133
@GraceNote I didn't know they had them, I thought that was just for the partner system thing
@Powerlord wouldn't that be 3?
Of course, Valve may be throwing in an additional update... it's hard to say.
@badp They did it at 10am PDT. It's 8am PDT now.
15:04
@BenBrocka No, each character passively has 2 attributes. In Neptune's case, hers are Break Damage Limit and HDD SP Consumption -.
Shipping has dropped from USD35 to USD30. I wonder if I wait a bit longer the shipping fee would actually drop to something reasonable
user15026
@yijiang waaaaaaaaant
@GraceNote Oh, huh
As far as I can tell there's no benefit to pre-ordering, so I'm just going to wait and see if the shipping falls some more
Figures it'd be her, she's not my favorite to drag around
15:06
You'd know if you had Neptune's ultimate weapon because you'd have had to fight a particular enemy to drop it, and you wouldn't forget that effort.
user15026
@yijiang yeah the shipping is ridiculous
IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE MY TURN got old in the second dungeon or so
@BenBrocka BOING! BOING! JUMP! BOING! I'm a kangaroo! I'm a kangaroo! I'm a kangaroo!
7
I really wish more games would pay attention to having a large bank of possible spoken quotes for in-game actions, and not play them every single time if it's a common action
@GraceNote That too
Also Noire's jump quotes are hilariously out of character
@BenBrocka I really wish games gave you the option of controlling which quotes they would say.
Also, Tales of Xillia is coming out in August!
@TrentHawkins and I had so much fun with Graces.
15:09
@fbueckert having a large rotation and not saying them every time really goes a long way
@GraceNote I have absolutely no idea what the context for this is. So obviously I'm going to give you a star.
@BenBrocka True. That helps mitigate the effect.
Capcom games are usually particularly awful at that
There are times you want to NOT hear that saying. Again.
Like megaman games where every charged shot (or sometimes every special weapon shot) they say the same thing
15:10
The end of battle skits in Tales games are hilarious, though.
I'll watch those all the time.
Tales games are great for that
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Shipping for what?
I need to find the Pascal analog so that @TrentHawkins has someone to play.
@Powerlord The plush. It's currently more expensive than the plush itself
@GraceNote I also had to facepalm every time she used 32 bit megablade in Mk2
I don't think she has that quote now though
15:13
@BenBrocka If you refer to judging her, she still has the quote.
I need another Mana Khemia.
That was an awesome series.
i'm bored
@GraceNote Oh, I guess I just use skills less often when not in HDD
I need more Dexter/Breaking Bad
@BenBrocka Which the quote also came from the first game, though they didn't have 32 Bit Megablade back then so it was on a completely different skill.
Speaking of which, I miss the old Particle Shot.
@BenBrocka lol nice
@BenBrocka I'm amused as the readiness you had of that image.
@GraceNote I'd call it worrisome.
I need to find somewhere to watch Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
15:14
@GraceNote Google is magic
@GraceNote this too, he was very quick with it
@GraceNote never played the first
Also the old Scatter Orion, and by extension, Splendid & Naughty.
@BenBrocka So, in the first game, the three attack types were Rush, Power, and Gun. In essence the first two were physical attacks with low AP costs or good damage respectively, while Gun attacks were ranged magic attacks with elemental property.
Rather than how we have EX finishers and SP skills like now, all the attacks were instead just assigned to any such button within the combo, with adherence to a skill level hierarchy with later points in the combo being higher level.
user15026
@yijiang I know Canadian Netflix has it but that's not much help.
Hmmm, found a torrent for it. But it's massive and will probably take forever.
15:19
When we transitioned to mk2, Noire aside, all of the Lv1 and Lv2 Rush/Power skills were all adapted into EX Finishers, while, Noire aside, Lv3 Rush/Power skills were adapted into SP Skills (though aside from Compa/IF and Blanc's Tanzerin Trombe, these were all DLC in mk2).
The public library here might have DVDs, but the catalogue is down
@GraceNote Ah, sort of like the elemental combo skills in V. Those are kinda neat
Gun skills were dumped except for Gefahrlich Stern, up until V introduced them back as Support actions for the CPUs.
Oh, and Compa's an exception, almost all of her skills were Gun skills so they got set as her normal attacks and EX finishers in Mk2.
Noire is a weird case. Her Lv1 skills Tricolor Order and Impact Law were incorporated as EX Finishers, but her Lv2 skills Lace Ribbon Dance and Drop Crush were SP skills and she didn't even get any of her Lv3 skills until V, which is sad because she had some of the more theatric skills of the three.
And even then she only got Volcano Dive (which at least is the second most satisfying skill to use in V).
Noire, it should also be noted, was also the gun specialist of the original game, so all of her Gun skills hit all enemies multiple times, and her Lv3 Rush skill (Splendid & Naughty) was both sword and gun.
HINT THIS IS WHY UNI USES A GUN
@kalina Put Equestria Girls on loop and listen to it for three hours. I'm not sure what the result will be, but bored is probably not one of them
Neat. I know what some of those words mean
The @badp is learning, initiate level 2 containment protocols

Q: Is there an optimal repair point?

NiteCyperIn Dead Island, is there a cheaper time to repair a weapon, relative to its condition, or does each usage-by-hit cost the same to repair?

@GraceNote Which did'nt really act like a gun until V
...and it's actually kinda annoying to use her normal attack range now.
@BenBrocka Well, she mostly had a long-style attack before for many of her guns, but yeah, it was a very... short range gun.
Although she still had (and still has) the best skill attack range in the game.
And now that SP isn't such a stupid system, I can have her hang in the back for free 30k damage every turn at no cost~
Use more gun!
15:30
@YiJiang'sEvilClone There might be a legitimate problem there.
Or better yet, use a bow that shoots flaming arrows.
When linking to something on iTunes is it better to link to the iTunes "preview" or just give the itmss:// link directly?
I should try and use her more. I'm still using my pre-chapter 10 team
@YiJiang'sEvilClone they're both as useless to people without the software but the latter won't be rendered as a link
@badp Not on this site, so that's not a worry
15:32
@BenBrocka I still don't have a team but I'm still building up the basic voice gallery stuff, so...
@YiJiang'sEvilClone I'd be surprised if any site rendered itms:// links.
unless you're writing HTML manually, then you'd have to write out an explanation to people whose computer isn't completely fucked up by that obscenity of a program
Still kinda cycling everyone as usual.
Basic voice gallery being Spacing Out, Victory Spotlight, Bore Chore, Meatshield, I Love Gravity, 3 Second Rule, and Until You Drop.
iTunes has gotten... better. It doesn't hijack file associations or install crap besides it anymore. The performance is still pretty dreary, and the thing still looks out of place on Windows, but they finally replaced the Apple Updater with a silent service (which I disabled)
> I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these?!
@Koviko Make a gun that shoots incendiary lemons.
15:37
I dunno. Shooting lemons, I maybe-think-but-would-have-no-idea, seems pretty potent on its own.
@Koviko I don't think @GraceNote gets the references.
I probably don't.
@GraceNote We were making Portal 2 references.
I see.
> Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons!
15:39
@GraceNote You have played Portal 2, right?
Of course not.
@GraceNote o.o
@GraceNote Why not?
I haven't even proxy-played it like the original.
@Powerlord Don't own it.
@GraceNote Why not play the original? And the two games were like $7 on Steam a few days ago.
15:39
@GraceNote $5 or less every time steam has a sale.
$7 total for both that is
Might have been cheaper, but since I own Portal and Portal 2, I didn't pay that close attention.
@Powerlord Because I proxy-played the original, so I don't feel a humongous need to play it manually. And it's not my copy so technically I can't play it.
@GraceNote Oh right, you hate Steam.
I wonder who "Electronic Mass Productions" is supposed to be? ;)
15:41
@Koviko This is where I point out that I don't have a Steam account and remain largely unconvinced to get one.
@kalina I wonder. Also, I wonder how many people playing that game got told that masses of people are pirating it.
@Powerlord it happens regardless
the difference is you can't do anything about it if you pirated it
@GraceNote Oh, that's new. Personally, I use Steam so that I can purchase and play games without ever leaving my computer chair.
@kalina I wonder who "Square" are supposed to be.
@MartinSojka the name that I entered as my company
15:43
@kalina Is "crippling DRM" one of the options to combat piracy
@Koviko I have well more than a handful of games that I can play at any given interim, so I don't mind ordering a game and waiting for shipping time.
@YiJiang'sEvilClone no
@kalina Oh, so your company is going bankrupt?
@kalina You sold out to the devil?
yeah I went bankrupt after creating a far too next gen game engine on the day of the PS1 release
spent 750k on an all singing all dancing engine, first game I created with it failed, company went bankrupt
15:44
@kalina You needed to wait a few years like... Square... did.
Square's best selling game was a surgery simulator called Womb Raider
7
(I'm so sorry)
That is bad and you should feel bad.
@kalina That is terrible! *stars*
Just tried out the demo for that game. Really thinking about picking it up.
my new company, Circle, is going to do better
15:45
@kalina ...wow.
@Yawus Tried it. It's charming, but it really is Game Dev Story.
My best selling game so far is a hunting sim called Too Many Turtles.
5
@GraceNote I am trying to work out if naming changes how successful the game is
@kalina You're going down from four to zero (vertices)? :D
since if you leave it at their default names you get a lower score
15:46
Well, my Dream's End series sold surprisingly well.
@fbueckert I disagree, there are a ton more options.
@OrigamiRobot my best best selling game was on my first playthrough
it was an alternative history action RPG called Continuum
it cost 500k to make and made 470 mil profit
Is there an endless play game mode?
@kalina I only played for like an hour. My best selling game was like 25k units.
@OrigamiRobot That, I agree with. The difference is that it's a PC game. There is a PC Kairosoft game of this.
15:47
@GraceNote spacing out, gravity, whiff and the search one (hawkeye) are easy to get with a turbo controller/stick
@Yawus yes and no
It's the most use I've gotten out of my arcade stick so far actually
@kalina That is surprisingly unhelpful.
you get to the "end" after 30 years and can keep playing with the then-current generation of consoles
@fbueckert I cannot comment on GDS 2 as I have not played it.
15:47
Ah, okay.
there are no more story elements/new generations after 30 years
@OrigamiRobot I haven't played much of it; the english patch is pretty rudimentary.
So I can keep making Dream's End (not-so hidden parody of Final Fantasy) for eternity?
But GDT really does lift most of it's elements wholesale straight from GDS.
yes
my second most successful game was Cake: Genocide
which spawned 7 sequels before the world got truly bored of it
now that was a license to print money
15:49
@fbueckert Yes, but it adds a lot. The whole Research aspect it new. And building a game engine is way more involved than building a console was.
@kalina Must be the CoD of the universe you inhabit
@OrigamiRobot And that's a part I like. I believe GDS2 has something similar, but I haven't played it enough to be sure.
@fbueckert Yea, all I can compare it to is GDS 1.
Don't get me wrong; it has it's own charm. But I don't like that the bones are lifted straight from GDS.
So many systems are so similar that it really does seem like they set out to make a PC clone.
@fbueckert I'd call the similarities on par with any other game genre.
15:52
Actually now that I think of it I've probably already seen this game when it came up on the Windows app store back when everything was free
it was a demo, sure, but it was there.
@fbueckert does GDS allow you to create "Steam" ?
That's it though, it was ~a year ago so the change likely changed a lot.
@OrigamiRobot Time system is exactly like GDS. So is money. Sales chart differs very slightly.
@kalina Nope.
@badp Given that the website shows the game on a Windows tablet, I think that's probably them, yes
Steve Wilhite has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by The Webby Awards, for inventing ... the GIF.
15:52
@fbueckert I'm not saying some parts aren't carbon copies.
But things like leveling skills are 100% different.

Don't get me wrong; it has it's own charm. But I don't like that the bones are lifted straight from GDS.

@fbueckert I'd call the similarities on par with any other game genre.
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Indeed.
15:54
@OrigamiRobot There are other game dev games that are COMPLETELY different.
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Aw, I can't see this.
Gamebiz, for one.
You can dilute any collection of titles in a genre down to the same basic elements.
Also: Jerry Seinfeld got an "Outstanding Comedic Performance" special achievement award.
@OrigamiRobot To a degree, yes.
Carbon copying a mobile game, though?
That's low.
15:55
But it's not a carbon copy.
The bones are.
What are the bones?
The GUI?
Money. Date system.
Sales differs slightly.
How time freaking passes is lifted straight from GDS.

My best selling game so far is a hunting sim called Too Many Turtles.
15:56
Excellent, I Have wasted almost a year of my youtube watchers' lives
Slightly altering system, company, and people names.
A tortoise hunting party
Just got back my first mark, got a B. Really happy because I was concerned about failing the course. Fucked up the midterm, and wasn't sure how I did on the exam.
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Oh that @OrigamiRob, he's such a character.
@Wipqozn ಠ_ಠ
Action RPG titled "The Chronicles of @OrigamiRob"
15:58
@BenBrocka ಠ_ಠ
@OrigamiRobot It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.
Oh wait, those stats were for last month, I have wasted 6 years 66 days of people's lives total
user15026
@BenBrocka that's awesome and alarming
@OrigamiRobot I hate it when they try to force smalltalk.
@AshleyNunn Well it's spread over a LOT of unique people/watches

Q: What does buying a drink do?

DyckerI've bought a drink for Ash and Sam and it's suppose to make them show their tells more often the more they drink. Does the longer they play (and drink) in that game make their tells more noticeable? I've noticed that after the game I've bought a drink in, I can't buy a drink for that character ...

Apparently steamcmd will give up after a while if it can't download data.
So iTunes leaks MLP #7 more than 3 weeks before its publishing date
user15026
@BenBrocka even so, it's kinda awesome anyhow.
@YiJiang'sEvilClone er... MLP #7 what?
16:13
@YiJiang'sEvilClone I didn't know they had comics on iTunes.
@BenBrocka Now think about how much of your own life you wasted for that. :P
Comixology is better because it's cross platform. iBooks locks you into the Apple ecosystem
But of course there are ways of obtaining the digital comics DRM free
@FEichinger Much less than 6 years, and I had fun an got paid, so...
And as a sidenote to the whole GDT != GDS thing, one of the two devs is getting completely pedantic about it not being copied wholesale because, "The mechanics are coded differently."
Doesn't inspire much sympathy for them.
16:19
"It's not a copy, they used Java and we used .net!"
@BenBrocka Basically, yeah.
I'm not saying there's not room for a proper english PC game dev type of game.
But at the very least, admit that you're ripping off concepts and parts entirely, rather than whining that it's not the same when it looks exactly the same.
Saying, "Bugs works differently" and not elaborating sounds more like, "I know how bugs work in the backend, and they don't work exactly like GDS does, so they're not the same."
@YiJiang'sEvilClone damn pirates!
Could be worse, they could have copied EA.
glares at Zynga
@Powerlord Oh, yeah, like that wouldn't have had their lawyers come down on them like a ton of bricks.
@fbueckert EA's lawyers did come down like a ton of bricks
16:24
@Powerlord I know.
If Kairosoft was in the same boat as EA, you can bet they never would've made a clone that similar.
I need bacon! crispy1!
Someone remind me to smack the US Supreme Court.
@Powerlord I actually prefer it crispy, too. I never understood the appeal of chewy bacon.
@Fluttershy Loves me my chewy bacon.
Hey there
It's jucier than crispy.
16:26
@fbueckert I don't really want my bacon to be juicy though. On a burger, it's fine. But if I'm just eating, say, pancakes with bacon, I want the bacon crispy. =3
I don't know what the Supreme Court was thinking when they restricted Freedom of Information Act requests on State governments to people living in said state.
@Fluttershy Bacon by itself doesn't taste good when it's crispy. Mostly tastes burnt to me.
That was overcooked crispy bacon then. =P
I'm not really a fan of the crunch for bacon.
C'est la vie...
Now I want bacon...
To anyone interested, Wish I Was Here, the Zach Braff Kickstarter, has reached its goal! =D
16:34
Anyone else interested in Chasm?
It looks pretty neat.
@BenBrocka Hawkeye doesn't have a voice track associated, though, so I have no rush to complete it.
@GraceNote The spammable ones all boost tech like crazy though. IT's nice to never miss (though there is, annoyingly, also a challenge for missing)

Q: Is there a tank in any of the GTA 2 multiplayer maps?

William 'MindWorX' MariagerTitle says it all. Is there a tank in any of the GTA2 multiplayer maps?

I have waited 4 hours for an answer!
@fbueckert That's a game that uses randomly generated levels, right?
16:37
It's an insult to a man of my stature!
Rule 34 is written in the same style as Halting State, in second person perspective, except one of the characters is schizophrenic, and sometimes starts narrating in first person, essentially speaking to himself
@BenBrocka Yeah, this happens to be largely why. And to that point, I have no idea how I will accomplish That Was Practice for Uni.
I believe so
@William'MindWorX'Mariager And you will have to wait longer.
@Powerlord Yep!
Sidenote: any question that has, "Title says it all" is a bad question.
16:38
@fbueckert I know. I figured I'd just spam up the chat to pass the time. <3
At least add something more to it.
What more would you add?
@William'MindWorX'Mariager I don't think many people who still play GTA2
@William'MindWorX'Mariager I dunno. What you need a tank for.
@fbueckert See, I don't call that the bones. So that's where our disconnect lies.
16:39
Something that gives context is a good thing.
@GraceNote The pirachus in the Colosseum are pretty hard to hit. Equip a super-strong defense thingy, a terrible weapon and whiff at them for a while
@fbueckert It's a deathmatch game. I need it to deliver death.
@OrigamiRobot Indeed. We'll have to agree to disagree.
It's the same as asking where the Pulse Rifle is in any Halflife2 DM map. The point is getting the weapon. :P
@YiJiang'sEvilClone It's great fun in multiplayer.
@William'MindWorX'Mariager And I'd downvote that question too, if it had, "Title says it all."
Context is important.
16:40
@fbueckert We're not even disagreeing. We're just talking about different things. I agree 100% that the things you listed are the same.
@OrigamiRobot On our definition of bones, we are.
@fbueckert I assume along with that downvote, you'll bring a constructive comment? :)
@William'MindWorX'Mariager You just got it.
@Fluttershy That's why I'm not interested in it.
@OrigamiRobot It would leave a bad taste in my mouth to support a company that's that blatant about ripping it off, and then whining that it's completely different.
16:42
@fbueckert No! I am trying to disagree about disagreeing.
@fbueckert And I just told you, there's no more to add. It's a simple question about the location of an item in a game.
1 min ago, by fbueckert
Context is important.
@fbueckert I don't call having the same GUI ripping off.
@fbueckert Give me an example of context then. :)
@Powerlord Aw.. =(
16:42
@OrigamiRobot When the mechanics behind it are exactly the same, I do.
@fbueckert But the mechanics aren't the same.
And what about the slightly renamed companies and/or consoles?
@OrigamiRobot The time passing works exactly like GDS.
And fixing bugs after developing your game?
Why should that even be changed?
16:43
@OrigamiRobot I'm not saying it should.
@fbueckert, Anything?
Developing the game is about 75% different.
@BenBrocka I do not yet have a TEC-penalty weapon for Uni like everyone else, which doesn't mesh well with her high TEC stat at this level.
I'm saying it's blatant enough that they should at least say they took parts from GDS wholesale.
I have no qualms supporting indies.
@fbueckert They did.
16:44
@OrigamiRobot Where?
My experience with games that use randomly generated levels is that they generally stink.
@fbueckert Steam Greenlight.
@William'MindWorX'Mariager Why do you want it? Is there anything specific you want to do with it?
@OrigamiRobot Link?
@fbueckert Drive it?
@GraceNote pirachu has pretty crazy evade or whatever. Does uni have a -tec weapon? The chapter 10 characters have almost no variety of equipment
16:45
The game isn't really that complex. :P
Because all I'm seeing is the devs being pedantic and saying it's completely different.
Speaking of games, I played "Papers, Please!" after a friend linked to a video of TotalBiscuit playing it.
@fbueckert I can't get to the steam forums from work. Send me a message on steam to remind me when I get home.
@William'MindWorX'Mariager You're missing the point.
Definitely a weird game
16:46
@BenBrocka To my recollection, neither her starting gun nor the Red Radiance have a TEC penalty.
Add more than, "Title says it all."
I did. The question is in the body as well.
And those are the only ones I have now, running Red Radiance because teehee EXE Drive gauge buildup~
@GraceNote those are my only ones too. But maybe just use the weakest possible crap and shoot at a hard to hit foe
@William'MindWorX'Mariager Ok, you're annoying me now. Sure you're not Retro?
16:46
Basically, Papers, Please! is a game about how good you are at noticing details.
@fbueckert Retro? I'm old, but not that old I think...
@BenBrocka Has been what I've been doing. I'll see about Pirachu in the weekend.
@fbueckert And I'm sorry if I'm annoying you. I'm trying to figure out what you want me to do? It seems like adding "to drive around and kill people" is kinda redundant for the question.
The QA concept is simple. Straight questions with straight answers.
@William'MindWorX'Mariager And to write a good question, you need to add more than, "Where tank?"
@fbueckert Which I have, I state I'm looking specifically for it in multiplayer?
16:49
"Where tank multiplayer?" still doesn't make it a good question.
You've got >1K on Game Dev, dude. You should know how to write a good question.
It may not be a good, strong question but there's not much more to really add to it.
What question are we talking about?
-1
Q: Is there a tank in any of the GTA 2 multiplayer maps?

William 'MindWorX' MariagerTitle says it all. Is there a tank in any of the GTA2 multiplayer maps?

@William'MindWorX'Mariager Easy, just talk about why you want a tank and/or what it's for.
I'm also not a fan of "Title says it all", but at the end of the day, sometimes, it does, when in whatever context. In this case, the question is, quite simply, are there tanks available on any of the GTA 2 multiplayer maps.
16:52
Oh, is this a tank as in an army tank?
What tanks do in the game should be an obvious point I imagine, as is why one would want a tank. It can flavor the question but that's really all it does at all, it provides no actual information to use for answerers or readers.
I was thinking gas tank.
@OrigamiRobot What I need it for doesn't impact to the question. I just want it. If I want to drive it over people or drive it in a lake.
I'll point out it's the army tank. :)
@William'MindWorX'Mariager No, but it rounds the question out.
@William'MindWorX'Mariager You don't have to point that out, I just needed to shift mental gears.
@OrigamiRobot I know the feeling. I'm not a native English speaker, so sometimes when people ask things, I can be a bit confused.
Added a bit of fluff. :)
16:55
Really, I guess the most I would do to touch up on the question would be to make the body - "In GTA2's single player mode, I know there are tanks I can ride around. Are there any tanks in any of the multiplayer maps, though?"
Doesn't add much but it avoids that unsightly word and avoids being burdensomely fluffy.
@GraceNote Grace Note says it all
