My aunt was a really severe alcoholic, but she only drank expensive french and italian wines. Which meant she wasn't just an alcoholic, but she was a broke alcoholic with a lot of credit card debt eventually.

I tend to drink more when I am travelling because I like to drink lots of different things that I can't get back home. The intense regional fragmentation of the beer market means that there is a great variety of new things to try.
