Q: Why don't doors stack?

I can understand the logic behind tools/armor not stacking in my inventory, due to each having their own wear & tear. However, I cannot understand why doors cannot stack. Does anyone have any reasonable logic or justification why they cannot?

@badp In the original? Up until you get bombs yes, otherwise no. It's not until Super Metroid where there's a canonical sequence of key items.

Metroid: Zero Mission basically rewrites Metroid to have a canonical series of items.

Metroid 2 is the black sheep where it's both your items and enemies killed that gates you.

Then again, Metroid 2 doesn't have beam stacking either.

@loosebruce generally a company who provides dedicated game servers will handle most of the basic config for you, and won't (necessarily) give you root/shell access to the box

so their value add is making the server run

you've also got to look at what type of shared hosting they're doing, it's hard to compare a VPS to a game server instance

ie, a VPS provider might "promise" 2GB of ram, but you're on the same physical hardware as a bunch of other clients they've also promised that RAM to

when I ran game servers for eGO, we had a bunch of softlayer boxes

in fact, I'm pretty sure some of the game hosting places will say they're selling you a "dedicated game server" when what they mean is "there's an instance dedicated to you" and not "you've got the hardware to yourself"

eGO tended to run 2-6 instances per softlayer box, for instance

one bit of advice I'd say is that unless you're going with a big name (ie, something like rackspace/softlayer where they have a SLA and so forth), pay month-to-month for a couple months and make sure you like the service before you commit long-term

@badp It's mostly the same plus intro cinematics and I think there's a list of enemies/endings that's unique to it? I only had the PSX one

@badp yeah, bundled with one of the snes FF games. can't recall which at the moment. I have it at home somewhere, in the same box as the SNES cart...

@BenBrocka mmm, not sure about that one. I think there were just some animations added, otherwise I remember it being the same. could be remembering wrong, though, it's been a while

@BenBrocka Some of the texts are a little different. I noticed Frog's speech doesn't have the old english flavor in the endings (at least), for example.

I mean, the font is thinner and more text fits in the boxes so they probably retouched stuff here and there.
