@Unionhawk Yeah, that one! Also, it's newest first starting at the top. It also has an Uploads Only tab (which replaces the checkbox in the old layout)
@Powerlord It's on Uploads only by default for me somehow. Which is nice.
@Unionhawk I'm jealous. If I ever visit that page from its left-side link, it always defaults to showing everything.
Then again, I've bookmarked Uploads Only directly.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: I basically have Internet access for 15 minutes at a time at home right now. The new "upgrades" my cable provider rolled out has issues with the Motorola 5120 cable modem. Which is the cable modem the company leases out to us.
@Wipqozn That's some pretty kickass point of view painting.
@Powerlord It might be a user setting somewhere. I don't remember.
15:03
Does he have a picture from the other side?
I'm just going to buy a newer one (probably still Motorola, likely a 6141) and return the leased one to them.
@Powerlord 15 minutes out of the hour? Or 15 minutes a day?
I think YouTube shows you Uploads Only if you switch to it manually enough times.
@fbueckert Cable Modem needs to be power-cycled every 15 minutes because it loses the downstream signal and can't find it until power-cycled.
@Powerlord I'd be yelling at my provider for that.
15:06
@fbueckert Can't seem to find one. In fact I can't seem to track down the image on his site.
@fbueckert Did that already. Which is how I know that it affects just about every customer in my area that leases an SB5120 from them.
However, they said the earliest they can get me a new cable modem (remember, I'm leasing one from them) is next Wednesday
@Powerlord Are they sure it's the modem? If it's affecting everyone in your area, sounds like something got fubared further upstream.
@fbueckert When the first question out of the tech's mouth after I tell them my problem is "Is your cable modem an SB5120?" I just assume it's the modem model itself.
Besides which, it not finding the downstream signal again until power-cycled sounds like a hardware problem.
@Powerlord Hmm. Perhaps they have a faulty manufacturing batch.
So you can't get a new modem?
15:10
@tiddy I can. If I wait a week.
So spotty internet for a week. Take your lumps
@tiddy No, don't take your lumps; you're paying for service. Service that you're not getting.
He doesn't have to agree to pay his normal fee. I'm just saying there isn't much to be done here
He's screwed
@tiddy Oh, yeah, currently, ain't much he can do but scream bloody murder.
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Yeah. Though I really wish the homepage would default to my subscriptions, and it would allow me to view the dropdown list of a channel's videos on the video page like it used to. That was awesome for sequential videos. The new layout is useless for that
15:12
And get a free month or two of service out of them for the inconvenience.
If he's lucky
@BenBrocka I hate that too, they're instead trying to encourage people to create playlists.
Suddenly college internet doesn't seem so bad... At least if something breaks, I can call someone who's on site and claim I have an online test - or whatever
For that matter, does the Playlist display even show up at the bottom any more?
At least, I assume I can call someone...... I hope...
15:13
I work on a university connection. It is fantastic
It's fine - until I hit my 4GB in a day - then it gets throttled to hell.
@Powerlord I love playlists, but they're so damn hidden that most people never make them and most people never find them
@Powerlord no, but there's a sweet dropdown at the top of the page for it. Which would be great, if I could get the auto-generated playlist it used to make. But they don't do that either. Which I also hate
I...i can't contain my e-peen.. It's growwwwing speedtest.net/result/2492626994.png
@tiddy Wait until you finish university.
I work here. I'm 29
15:15
You'll be paying through the nose for an equivalent connection.
@tiddy Well, damn. There goes that.
How's your home connection?
30mbs
Since we're comparing work connections: speedtest.net/result/2492631314.png
Also, I'm not sure why it's selecting a site 50+ miles away by default; there should be a testing site here in Lansing. Or there was
@Wipqozn You missed this one:
That slug one is kinda blowing my mind...oh
15:18
Oh, it's because the one here in town bites ass and has a much higher ping
k good. Didn't realize he painted on the bench
I feel cheated now.
@Unionhawk what's so bad about that?
I want my money back.
@badp It isn't 90 Mbps
Dayton is not a place for fun
15:19
Depends on whether or not the speed test results are bits or bytes
You know what's fun in Dayton OH? Packing up and getting the hell out.
If that's megabytes per seconds, then you're getting 109 megabits.
It's in bits
Yeah, it's bits.
eh. Okay.
15:20
@badp The ping is not very good.
Yeah, 101ms sounds like bad wifi or something worse
@Krazer These always amuse me. They seem like a lot of work for very little gain, though; how many people will see the painting correctly, or take the time to find the right angle?
I get significantly better ping from the Cincinnati server - which seems weird, but whatever
Also whoever is to blame for the current fixed upload/download ratio of most ISPs - I hate you
3
@tiddy This is true, at least 23 Ohioans have got up and left the planet.
2
15:22
blah blah astronauts
@badp common knowledge is that users upload far far less than they download. This common knowledge is from long before the days of Youtube and general content sharing
Yeah, it's just that server; tested Columbus, 23 ms, 19.73 down/3.57 up. Better.
They know
@BenBrocka Yeah, you know what would be rad? Having a slow download/fast upload ←→ slow upload/fast download slider to adjust to your own whim
I'm still showing all tests from any university that hits 90 mbps to the admissions department. They need to step up their game.
15:23
@badp Thankfully my connection is listed as 25/25 (and it's actually better than that)
@badp That would be instantly exploited to break the limits and provide fast both.
@TimStone Damn you.
@fbueckert Why?
@badp If you give someone a tool like that, people would figure out how to break it.
@fbueckert Why?
Man, Naev is too much fun
15:25
@badp Because we're geeks?
We like poking at stuff and figuring out how it works?
@fbueckert That's no excuse for poor security
@fbueckert Just because banks give us the chance to send and make payments through the internet doesn't mean we get to make up money in our bank accounts from thin air
@badp Oh, I'm not saying they'd implement bad security. I'm saying no security is flawless.
I'm pretty sure mine is so high because the only thing USC students use it for is downloading red-solo-cup vids on youtube and e-worship
@fbueckert In college, a friend of mine figured out how to create virtual ethernet cards on his computer and use them with downloads to give himself multiple of the bandwidth limit
@badp Banks have an incredibly vested interest in ensuring monies match up.
15:26
@badp No ISP is going to spend that much money to give people a bandwidth slider.
ISPs costs are so low that they wouldn't care if some people break the tool, as the cost to them would be minimal.
@fbueckert Wouldn't ISPs have similarly interests in making sure you don't get a $40/mo service on a $5/mo plan?
@fbueckert I think it's because they draw attention and crowds (even if you don't get it you'll wonder what the fuss is about and stop for a moment), so it's good publicity to commission these artist to draw crowds, but unlike murals, you don't need to maintain them.
@badp That'd be neat, but I'd prefer just pairity like Google Fiber. Even if it means not quite as fast upload speeds, just one speed to list is a huge win for consumer understanding
user30
ours is 175/170 at the moment, \o/
15:28
@badp Yes, but it cuts into their profits. Therefore, they just don't do it in the first place.
@BenBrocka I'd like a pony with my fries too, thanks.
@OrigamiRobot What would? Better service?
@badp Google has a better chance of making it happen than anyone else
@badp The bank level security you are suggesting
Reducing attack surface by removing places where services can be abused is a form of security
You don't need bank level security (which I'm afraid you're grossly overestimating) to protect a goddamn one-dimensional value.
15:29
I believe I saw a article on reddit citing a 95% profit margin for ISPs
if(ratio > 1) ratio = 1;
run this serverside
@tiddy Well, a large part of the cost for ISPs is fixed costs.
So, for the first time in like 6 months, SourceMod has a "release" version that actually works across all Source games except CS:GO.
(also, if you somehow got the download speed/download + upload speed ratio outside the 0-1 range, you either would get 0 download or 0 upload; both mean you don't get to use the internet)
There was this idea I've heard that suggests ISPs give you a minimum bandwidth, and when the traffic is low redistribute that to users who need them.
Of course that'll never happen, but it's nice to dream...
15:32
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Yeah, not with bittorrent
I speak french and this is still WTF store.steampowered.com/app/229600
@tiddy Well, "game is art" right?
@badp Not to the degree that the banks would; costs for providing a $5 would be pennies. The $40 plan would cost them more, but it would be a minimal additional cost.
@badp ratio = 1 until after check. then ratio > 1

(also, if you somehow got the download speed/download + upload speed ratio outside the 0-1 range, you either would get 0 download or 0 upload; both mean you don't get to use the internet)
15:38
@badp I think you're underestimating the amount of futzing someone would do.
When checking, report ratio = 1. Doesn't matter what the actual value is, report it as 1.
Things like that are a cat and mouse game.
People find a way around, all-powerful corporation patches hole, people find another way around.
So, I really should play Antichamber at some point.
I got it on Steam last week and I heard its really good. That and I don't want to play The Cave while I can't connect to the Internet because I'm an achievement whore and Steam doesn't do offline achievements.
Here's a game: Open Mic night poetry reading or video game description:
The sea remains, tugging at their hearts when not at their hairs and clothes, as it itself is tugged by the virtual moon. And as great as the desire for the other may be, they cannot stay away from the wind and the waves and the sand. Every time they find a new treasure. An abandoned tennis field. An heap of coal. A dead dog. Ordinary. Absurd. Meaningless. Yet comforting.

Could also be an entry from gnomeslice's diary
15:42
Who cares about the reported ratio
@badp He is saying that computers only know what is told to them. What is told to them does not have to be what is measured and they don't know any better.
You're arguing about changing the actual value outside of range, which fucks your entire internet connection.
@OrigamiRobot I've followed the course on computer security, thank you very much.
@badp Oh, you're talking about a physical limit provided for the connection.
No need to get snooty, thank you very much.
Yeah, in that case, if you saturate your bandwidth, there is no way to squeeze more out of it. Except by installing more cables.
15:45
@OrigamiRobot "Computers do as they're told, not as wanted" is something we're taught from day 0
Also, House of Cards on netflix is very fun

A must see for all you machiavellian minded folks....ahem
puts on his Hat of Cards
Oh wait, I probably crafted that one away.
@tiddy I don't have a machiavellian mind! I just like things to go my way, and will ensure it does.
15:47
@fbueckert Seriously though I think you'd enjoy
@tiddy That's Netflix's own show, right?
Yeah
Hmm. Might check it out, then, if I can find it somewhere.
Kevin Spacey is downright scary
@tiddy Did you see him when he played Dr. Evil in one of the Austin Powers movies?
15:54
Oh during the A-List opener?
yeah
Darn, I was hoping someone would say "Didn't Mike Myers play Dr. Evil?" before you pointed that out
No one's gonna mention Danny DeVito as Mini-me?
@Krazer He did a great job there. :D
Not sure I liked Tom Cruise as Austin Powers, though.

Q: Xpadder not working with MotionInJoy (DualShock 3)

SydculI wanted to play GTA: San Andreas with my DualShock 3. Unfortunately you can't set the same button for 2 different things (like it is on the PS2). So I installed MotionInJoy and Xpadder, but Xpadder does not recognize any button at all. In MotionInJoy the Custom LED's and the Vibration test works...

@Powerlord Who would you have casted instead?
16:00
@Krazer Weird Al Yankovic.
Speaking of which, he was on this week's episode of Learning Town. In a non-singing role.
I love the subtitles on this:
@Krazer lol
@Krazer Haha
@agent86 - ah you are here. I've posted a question about ChatterBox on StackApps - stackapps.com/questions/3914/…
@RonanForman Haven't you got homework you should be doing?
16:12
@ChrisF Probably, I can't be expected to keep track.
@RonanForman You're doing it wrong
Also, have you seen the server recently? It's getting quite awesome.
@fredley Yeah, I solar powered the machine room at spawn for you.
@RonanForman Ah cool.
I've added a farm and guesthouse, and a few extra things
I should set up a wheat farm for the cows.
You guys
Maybe I should have downvoted Retrosaur's question on MSO
16:17
@RonanForman I could add to the one I've set up
It's next door anyway
@ChrisF hello, I'll go check in on it. I haven't used the extension in a while, so it might need updating or somesuch.
need a harvester and some piping, and some way of dealing with overflow. Possibly RP tubes
Is there a significant difference in the amount of lag introduced by a RP timer compared to a traditional redstone clock?
@fredley Timers have fewer block updates.
@RonanForman Ok
It's not going to be in a permanently loaded chunk anyway
@ChrisF language should be fixed, thanks for the bug report. :)
16:22
@fredley A timer for what? The harvester ejects into pipes, which you can run into a relay
@agent86 Cool
@Unionhawk Ah yes, forgot it was auto-eject
So, anyway... bacon!
@BenBrocka trolololol
user15026
@BenBrocka why. Why is this.
user15026
@gracenote people on the Internet have too much time on their hands.

Q: Specialization Name

turboIn multiplayer, when you reach SR-130, can you change the specialization name displayed below your Spartan? For example, if you choose Stalker as your last specialization, will it be set to "Stalker" forever or can you freely switch it to another specialization name?

Attacking a heavily armed imperial cruiser in fighters
@SaintWacko Naev?
@fbueckert Yep
I'm now flying a cruiser armed with 6 turbolasers and a mk3 laser turret
@SaintWacko I should really find some screenshots of this.
Mm. I like the look of Starsector better.
@fbueckert Yeah, Starsector probably has nicer graphics, but I think the Naev gameplay is better
Also, Naev is free, so may as well try it!
@SaintWacko I don't have enough time as is!
I should retire tomorrow, so I can have the time to play all these awesome video games.
17:23
@fbueckert Good idea
user15026
@fbueckert that sounds like the best plan.
@AshleyNunn Except my mortgage company wouldn't be too happy with me.
Also, Naev has physics
proper physics
To stop, you have to turn and face backwards before firing the engine
guns have recoil, and impact, and explosions push ships
@SaintWacko Newtonian physics. Who says we can't build engines that simulate gravity-esque movement?
I do like building ships that embody Macross Missile Massacres, though. Does Naev allow that?
@GraceNote I rather enjoyed that.
17:31
@fbueckert Yes
Just fit a bunch of missile launchers
@BenBrocka Yeah, I saw that.
How much you wanna bet the PR company behind Mr. Stupid scientist is behind it?
If we abolished copyright entirely, we'd lose some legacy industries, but creativity and innovation would explode exponentially.

I didn't make up DAE, though.
Oh look, it's lunch time.
@StrixVaria I did so bad at the draft. It was like I didn't even know how to play
@Fluttershy I seen Howl's back when it was first dubbed, which was before Batman BEgins was released. So I never made the connection.
I just rewatched it though, and bam.
