Personally I'd recommend starting on 3 or 4 because the game systems improve a lot

3's probably the best one to start on actually, especially if the Vita includes HD graphics (biggest problem with D3 on PS3 was it still used the low res PS2 style graphics for sprites)

Also, on the Vita you should be able to download D1 and 2 since they're availible for digital download on PSP. But I'd start with 3
