Huh. I can't vote to delete a migrated question it seems.
Or downvote it once it's closed.
Ooh, nifty, when we closed it the migration notice at rpg disappeared too.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Closed migrated questions are "rejected"
They get sent back to sender
I think the version of the question here should also be deleted automatically
Just curious, you have access to the moderation tools, @LessPop_MoreFizz, how often do question get sent here from RPG and how often are they rejected?
It should be at tools/posts/migrated/stats

Q: Is there any explanation for the Island of Myst or how the player arrives there?

Rob P.I know I'm many years behind the times; but I just played Myst for the first time this weekend on the PS3. I was absolutely disappointed with the ending; I thought the entire point of the game was to 'figure stuff out' but I don't feel as though I understand any of it. Was it explained in-game ...

@YiJiang In the past 90 days we have had a total of 2 incoming mgrations, one from RPG, and one from Serverfault. Both were rejected
Surprisingly little. One from Server Fault? That's funny
@YiJiang Probably about game servers or something.
... Ever, we've had... 5 come from RPG. 4 rejected.
Hmm. Our questions migrated to gamedev do not have a good track record.
like, they don't generally get closed, but the end up at 0 or negative score and unanswered usually.
Might be worth reexamining how we deal with questions about stuff like the elder scrolls creation kit and such. (Not that I particularly want the questions, but it's clear that even if they're ostensibly welcome on game dev, they aren't getting answers there, so migration might not be the best idea going forward, vs. just closing them outright.)
Oh hey, GTA 3 for mobile devices is $0.99 today only so you should go get it because that is a stupid cheap price. Check the App Store/Market of your choice.
5
@LessPop_MoreFizz It's also that for Android
12:52
@LessPop_MoreFizz Are they tagged somewhat specially there? I might be able to answer some of them (unless they are for Skyrim or FNV).
Oh goodie. Myst is on steam. I've always wanted to play through that series. I'll need to pick it up at some point.
Mist on steam? Isn't that kinda redundant?
3
@Wipqozn I actually bought it for a couple bucks at the flea market a while back
Anyway, nothing much unanswered for Oblivion on GameDev.SE, so I guess we're fine there. Bring those modder questions! :D
@LessPop_MoreFizz You are a terrible person :P
@SaintWacko upvotes plz.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Adding " -[skyrim]" to that leaves me with two questions, which are sill about Skyrm, just not tagged as such.
Let me see if I can fix that ...
@SaintWacko Just fire those things on the moon. Easy record breaking! (For some specific values of "easy").
@MartinSojka Upvote my question on that proposal please.
Thanks.
user15026
13:30
@SaintWacko O.o I love that. For some reason it delights me.
@AshleyNunn Yeah, punkin chunkin is pretty awesome, but I really doubt that site would get enough questions :D
I've actually built a couple siege engines
user15026
@SaintWacko But it would be a beautiful addition to the site list at the bottom of every page if it made it past beta :P
They weren't for pumpkins, but still...
user15026
@SaintWacko That is awesome. What did you use, if not pumpkins?
I like how the "Lost and Found" proposal lists "people" as one of the possible categories. Reminds me of the newest Oglaf comic.
user15026
13:34
@MartinSojka O.o seriously?
user image

SFW, aside from (maybe) the language. :)
@MartinSojka Haha, that's awesome
user15026
Somehow, I have managed to kill image links in chat. I have no idea how I did it, much less how to undo it.
@MartinSojka Is that intended to be a reference to something?
Also, a human caravan just showed up during a siege and was mercilessly slaughtered by frogmen. Hopefully the humans don't think I did it
13:37
@SaintWacko They will, though I think they'll keep sending caravans anyway
@YiJiang Just so long as it's caravans and not more sieges
I've never actually had this happen before. Masterwork makes the world a lot more dangerous
On the upside, I got the entire contents of that caravan for free :D
Damn, I should have told them to bring more armor and weapons!
@SaintWacko After a while, when your fortress is self sufficient you might want to consider turning your depot into a death trap to do that anyway
@YiJiang I have too much of a conscience to do that
@SaintWacko But if you do that they'll also jack up the prices on the extra armor and weapons
I just make massive amounts of stone mugs and trade those
13:39
Very annoying, especially if the quality of the stuff is high, the price becomes ridiculous
Good morning, Bridge
@YiJiang Right, I'm saying last time, so I would have gotten it all free
Hahaha
user15026
@fbueckert Good morning :)
@fbueckert Good morning
13:40
Now just to wait for the frogmen to leave so I can claim the loot
@fbueckert Morning
Now, to continue my travails with Sharepoint.
On the plus side, fixing my phone was fairly simple. Stupid constant crashing.
@SaintWacko I love Greek mythology.
user15026
@fbueckert Well, that's good at least.
@AshleyNunn Yeah, it was about a ten minute fix. Delete storage data for a couple built-in android programs, reboot, and done!
@Wipqozn Yeah, they have the greatest myths
user15026
13:43
@fbueckert Hurrah!
@fbueckert Yeah, I've had that problem a few times
@Wipqozn All the incest! Their family tree is so intertwined it's crazy.
user15026
Hahaha the prof in this class keeps calling on me during discussion. I have no voice, so I mostly squeak, and he apologizes, and picks someone else, but this keeps happening XD
@AshleyNunn Sounds amusing.
user15026
13:45
@Wipqozn For everyone but me, yeah XD
@AshleyNunn Honey tea.
user15026
@fbueckert Yeah, I have a giant mug of it with me today, and will make more when I go home for lunch. :)
@fbueckert Are you suggesting she throw hot, boiling tea in the Professors face?
@Wipqozn No, he was trying out a pet name for @AshleyNunn
@Wipqozn No, I'm suggesting she throw hot, boiling tea against the back of her throat.
13:46
@fbueckert Ow.
@SaintWacko Cute.
user15026
@SaintWacko O.o blush XD
@AshleyNunn ;)
@SaintWacko The brain's got a pretty interesting pain shunting mechanism.
At any given moment, it can really only focus on a single point of pain.
13:47
It tends to go with the most severe one.
@fbueckert Yes, but that pain sounds much worse
user15026
@SaintWacko I am not entirely convinced. Feels like a family of dragons played target practice with my uvula or something.
So whenever someone complains to me about something, I offer to break an arm or something, as that would stop it from focusing on their original pain.
There we go. That's the one I originally wanted.
user15026
@fbueckert I would almost take that right now.
13:49
@fbueckert You could offer to break your arm. That would probably be amusing enough to watch to forget the pain.
@MartinSojka Nah; I'd just hyper extend it, and creep out most of the people around me.
user15026
@fbueckert It would probably amuse me enough that I would ask you to do it again. I have an odd fascination with these things.
@AshleyNunn Yes, we know how much you like violence :P
user15026
@SaintWacko Shhh I'mma pacifist.....really.... (I just like when things go boom, or splat....)
13:52
@AshleyNunn ...Or crack, or pow, or bam, or crunch, or...
user15026
@SaintWacko All of those sound lovely, yes. :D
Ugh. Now 'or' looks wrong
@AshleyNunn The ragdoll physics in Afterlight are amusing.
user15026
@fbueckert Do people go flying with limbs all over the place? I like when that happens
user15026
@SaintWacko semantic satiation!
13:54
I've flung Beastmen something like 30 feet just by shooting them in the head.
user15026
@fbueckert That is beautiful.
Holy crap, today's xkcd
Yay infographs
user15026
I have no idea what this is, but from a distance, it looks pretty.
3
user15026
.....wow. That makes me sound like a featherbrain.
My favourite tidbit of information about the history of the USA's parties is the fact that the Republicans arose in power during the civil war as an anti-slavery party, opposed to the pro-slavery Democrats. :D
13:58
@MartinSojka Yeah. The flip was a slow transition between 1932 and 1964.
Look up Dixiecrat for some real fun.
user15026
I am consciously aware of the feeling of my own eyeballs in my skull. It is a very weird sensation.
@AshleyNunn Bet it feels less weird than having a laser fired into your retina to burn stuff.
user15026
@GraceNote O.o I suspect so.
user15026
Although apparently I am at high risk for retinal tearing, so I might yet experience that.
Y'know, to be fair, even after having gone through the procedure, I still have no idea what exactly the purpose of the laser was.
@AshleyNunn You too? It's not a very comfortable risk to be sitting on, I know.
user15026
14:10
@GraceNote No, it's kinda alarming
user15026
@GraceNote I think it is used to kinda...put your retinas back together, if I recall the hazy explanation I got years ago.
user15026
Okay, yeah, based on quick research, the lasers are used to seal any possibly tearing bit.
@AshleyNunn Yeah, but how does it even accomplish that? Lasik surgery is easy to comprehend, the laser is used to reshape your lens like a sculptor. But this, is it like, welding?
user15026
@GraceNote Yeah, essentially.
Apparently it's essentially a permanent fix though, once you go through the process.
user15026
14:12
They are essentially creating a scar that seals everything together.
user15026
@GraceNote That is oddly comforting, actually.
@GraceNote I'm a little leery about getting laser surgery. My eyes are crazy bad, but I don't like the risk of blindness. I like being able to see.
@AshleyNunn It is a quick procedure. Your eye(s) might be a little fuzzied for that day, but I was operational after a good bedrest and was fully functional by the following day.
user15026
@fbueckert Mine are -10 and -11, and I haven't even thought about getting it done because I have been told that it likely wont help me very much.
user15026
@GraceNote Hm, good to know. :) The risks associated with it (like OMG you might go blind) freak me out immensely. But knowing it is a relatively quick thing to deal with makes me feel better.
14:15
@AshleyNunn I haven't even looked into it. I might, soon, as it's time to get another pair of glasses; these are ~5 years old at this point.
user15026
@fbueckert Yeah, I talked to my eye doctor at one point about it, and he is like "yeah, your eyes are bad enough, and with your retinal tear risk, that I really don't recommend it at this time.
@AshleyNunn The "might go blind" of not doing anything outweighed any concerns about the procedure (plus the procedural risk is much, much less than the risk for leaving it unattended, at the stage I was in).
user15026
@GraceNote This is a very fair concern - if you are at the stage that they want to do the fancy lasering, I can imagine you are at higher risk if you don't do it than if you do.
To put in perspective, I only had my right eye laser'd. My left eye also is in conditional risk but it didn't have the same issue that my right eye did, and the retina specialist told me that he didn't think it would even be helpful at all to do anything to the left eye at this time.
user15026
@GraceNote Well, that's good at least.
14:20
Yeah, I consider corrective surgery for one (left) eye as a start as well. Right now, it's so bad and croaked that it contributes less than 10% of my usual vision - I basically can cover it up and not notice much of a difference, not even driving a car. If everything goes bad and I lose it completely? Ow well. No big loss. I'll just go and ask my friends at Google if they have an eye-socket-implantable version of their glasses, I guess. :D

Q: What are metal doors in Circle of Magi tower are for?

theUgIn the Circle of Magi tower, in the Senior Mage Quarters there are metal doors that cannot be picked, or opened otherwise: What is beyond them, and how does one get inside?

user15026
Without my glasses, I can see for maybe 6 inches before things get blurry (as in all I can see is blobs of colour, without shape)
My vision is actually pretty decent.
user15026
Mine is very much non-good - my eyes are basically becoming so misshapen that that is why I am at a retinal tearing risk.
Used to be a whole lot better, though, but eh. My comparison points are against the rest of my family, who are almost blind without their glasses to different degrees.
user15026
@GraceNote Without my glasses, I am pretty much doomed. When I can't find them in the morning, it becomes sheer crazy panic time
user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz iOS only? :(
I'm actually about as functional without my glasses as I am functional in the dark. Which is to say I'm actually pretty good in the dark. Everyone else in the family needs a serious source of light, too, so it's funny that.
I will lose my glasses only because I misplace them somewhere stupid. And if I do I just can't play games on the TV, that's about the only issue in daily life.
user15026
@GraceNote It's interesting then that you were the one needing the lasering.
user15026
I am useless in the dark, and useless without my glasses.
14:35
@AshleyNunn I have a condition called "lattice degeneration" which, combined with being nearsighted (however weakly so) makes me much more predisposed to tearing than the rest of my family.
user15026
I have actually called people I lived with at work to come home and help me find my glasses because I am pretty much paralyzed without them - I can't do much of anything.
user15026
@GraceNote Ah, yes, that would do it.
user15026
knows a lot about eye issues, because she was curious and did a lot of research
@AshleyNunn Whew. I'm glad I'm not that bad. I'm functional enough to be able to recognize what's a person, and what's an obstacle.
Which is good, because I had to dance without them.
What happened last week was that I developed symptomatic lattice degeneration in my right superior retina, which lead to some retinal fluid movements that were very not nice. That's why I had to get the lasering done.
user15026
14:36
@fbueckert I only know which are people because I generally know what colours people are and what colours my things are in familiar environments where I wouldn't have my glasses (like in my bedroom)
user15026
@GraceNote yeah, that would be very not nice.
@GraceNote Heh, yeah, I'm kinda like that. Full moon visible? It could be as well a sunny day for me. :D
user15026
@MartinSojka See, the moment it hits twilight, I start to struggle with seeing.
user15026
It doesn't help I have depth perception issues to boot.
@AshleyNunn Yeah
14:39
@MartinSojka Indeed. Extremely strong dark acclimation skill is very, very handy. Also good for reducing electricity costs.
user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz makes a sad face
@AshleyNunn Winter here in Canada must not be nice for you; it's dark when I get up for work, and dark when I leave.
I love to freak people out by simply walking around in near-complete darkness like it was nothing.
I do less freaking people out, more frustrating people because I never turn on the lights for them.
user15026
@fbueckert Yeah, it's unawesome. I tend to hermit in familiar environments after dark. (ie I mostly stay home) - late night classes where I have to walk home after dark is always a fascinating exercise.
user15026
14:40
@GraceNote See, I am the opposite, I tend to turn on all the lights and drive people mad with my inability to remember to turn them off, because I am so reliant.
@AshleyNunn I am the people you would drive mad, haha.
A consequence of myself, though, is that I also don't look a lot at when lights are even on. So sometimes I forget to shut off lights that I don't even remember turning on in the first place.
I never turn on lights
user15026
@GraceNote Because you arent reliant on them, so you don't retain the information that they are on?
@AshleyNunn I keep lecturing my roommates to turn on the lights when they're doing stuff.
@AshleyNunn More, I don't usually turn on certain light switches consciously, so when I do turn them on, I don't recall that I did, so I don't pay heed to them being turned on.
user15026
14:43
@GraceNote Right. That makes sense.
They probably get annoyed at me, but since I'm paying for power, they have no reason not to.
@fbueckert "Now, you're playing for power!"
user15026
@fbueckert See, when I am left to my own devices, all my lights are on everywhere, alway - its one of the reasons I make sure that utilities are included in my rent XD
@GraceNote Derp
@fbueckert It was a perfect setup. I couldn't help myself. ♪
14:44
The other strange thing I like to do to freak people out is relying on my sense of direction (or rather, my sense of "where is everything else in relation to me") to just walk at high speed through places they know I never visited before like I lived there half of my life, and if asked where something else is, pointing in the direction and telling "There." :)
user15026
@MartinSojka See, I am lucky if I can find something twice even if I have been there.
user15026
I rely mostly on things being the same every time I encounter them
@AshleyNunn That, I get annoyed at. :P If you're not in the room, turn off the lights. Overall, though, I'm not too annoyed at it.
user15026
@fbueckert I tend to forget they are on, because to me, it is just "oh this is a room I can see in" not "oh the lights are on"
I did learn that while I'm great in the dark, I still haven't really learned my house 100% with my eyes closed. I misjudged distance a lot so I ended up having to use my feet to tell when the floor hits certain points to navigate around obstacles.
14:46
you know, you can see if you turn the lights off for a bit
user15026
@pixel not if you have a distinct lack of low light vision, as I do.
@GraceNote I just use my hands when I can't see; I just need a general fix, and I'm off.
oh there is that hole I was hiding in!
user15026
My eyes take long to adjust, and often, the quality of sight is not very good.
@fbueckert Wailing hands through the air is a great way to break things. Using your feet to shuffle along the ground, on the other hand, is a great way to detect all the things relevant to my course of travel without any danger to them.
14:47
@AshleyNunn See, I remember every place I ever was in, but only the way I reached it - using a plane is worst, because there is no mental connection between the airports. Using my feet is the best, because I can quickly "walk" from where I am and where I ever were, at any point in my life, and point in that direction.
user15026
@GraceNote I can't do it with my eyes closed, but I can do it based on the colours of things.
Consequently, I like to walk. A lot. :)
user15026
@MartinSojka I love walking, but I tend to get lost in my own neighbourhood if I don't stick to paths where I know what the houses and streets are.
@GraceNote Why are you flailing your hands? I just follow a wall.
user15026
Google maps on my phone is a lifesaver.
14:49
@fbueckert walls have stuff on them too
@AshleyNunn Yes, that thing is great for planning trips. :)
user15026
@GraceNote When I am without my glasses, my feet are my lifesaver. Because I spent most of my time at home without socks, so I am aware of how the floors and such feel in different areas.
It helps that I regularly use them to help me change my direction in the normal course of movement, so corners help me recognize where I am.
user15026
@MartinSojka or getting you home when you realize that nothing looks familiar anyore.
user15026
@fbueckert I tend to run into them more often than not - I have trouble judging my location relative to the wall and corners.

I have no sense of how much space I take up relative to anything else.
@AshleyNunn, are you feeling ill still today? You'd mentioned you were losing your voice...
user15026
@agent86 my throat is on fire and my voice is gone and I can feel my eyeballs. I feel terrible. Are you any better?
@AshleyNunn oh good lord. I had that at the beginning of my cold, but I am luckily towards the end now. just a bit stopped up
I had a birthday party this weekend that was slightly challenging
user15026
Yeah, I keep acquiring new and fascinating symptoms. It's awesome in that "How many ways can I be sick in rapid succession" sort of way.
@AshleyNunn well, take lots of fun drugs, and I hope you feel better soon.
I used to get ear infections and throat infections about once a month as a kid, until they determined I had allergies real bad
user15026
14:58
Yeah this is new for me - I don't usually get sick ever.
drugs is the answer
@fbueckert Walls are not everywhere in my house. I have a very open home. Also, there's stuff between where I can walk and where the wall is, sometimes.
@AshleyNunn I didn't for a number of years, and then children
Yay, the siege finally lifted!

@MarkTrapp It would appear attempting to have any sort of discussion with that site is pointless.
user15026
@agent86 haha yeah. They're probably using preschools as breeding grounds to cure the giant version of the common cold or something.
Frankly, this community became positively toxic to those asking questions. As I said on chat, I'm very strongly considering not asking any more of them. — DVK 4 hours ago
@MarkTrapp I created so much drama with one question.
user15026
15:06
@wipqozn yeah they don't seem to be interested in actual practical discussion, from what I have seen. Which is why I am refusing to engage.
user15026
@wipqozn he is essentially presenting a "I will take my toys and go home" argument.
user2334
@Wipqozn yep. I suspect I wouldn't care as much if their whimsy and Deschanel-esque quirkiness when it comes to moderation didn't end up deleting some of my best contributions. The CC license: she's a harsh mistress
@AshleyNunn It feels like a large part of the problem is the moderator, Gilles. My original question was going fine, until the mod came along and was, quite frankly, an ass.
user2334
@Wipqozn I don't think you created it so much as re-opened a couple of festering sores.
@MarkTrapp So it would seem.
Although gilles would have you believe I'm just trying to... oh what was the words he used in The Assembly..."teach SciFi how to do things right, since everything they are doing is wrong"

@fbueckert ... and here I thought Gaming.SE would be the biggest group of XP grinders.
@MartinSojka Oh, I'm pretty sure we have a few badge grinders. But we also have an extremely active userbase that goes, "Nope, that's a stupid question."
So it sorta balances out.

@MadScientist I thought that required 200 rep for your own questions?
Not sure, I thought I had seen this with rather low-rep user, but I might be wrong
I don't have a sockpuppet with a closed question to test
@MadScientist So go post a really bad question from a sockpuppet!
@fbueckert I thought we already had that question, anyway. I might be thinking of a question just about a specific hidden passive that mentions all the others, though.
15:23
@MadScientist I do!

@fbueckert Oh, we can't forget those. Those are of ultimate importance.
Wait ... let me get it right, that "dlanod" guy asked an easy question and answered it in the same minute himself, with the minimum amount of text possible for an answer, and got at least 15 upvotes for it? I don't know if I should be more astonished by the fact he thought such an easy troll for attention would work, or that it actually worked ...
@AshleyNunn I gotta give the troll points for persistence, even if I hate his guts for continually trying.

@AshleyNunn It's one of the reasons I don't frequent that site.
I mean, I'm all for trying your best to get crap past the radar ... but that? That's a work of an utter bloody amateur.
user15026
@SaintWacko Shush, you ;)
user15026
15:33
@fbueckert I tend to avoid it because it holds no value for me.
@AshleyNunn Change of subject time! Books! How goes Honor Harrington's adventures?
@AshleyNunn More importantly, which Heinlein book are you on?
user15026
@fbueckert @SaintWacko Quite well! Finished the first one, loved it, got distracted by the latest Mercedes Lackey (which I didn't love as much as I wanted), finishing Feast for Crows because I feel bad for neglecting it, then I am going to read the second HH book, then more Heinlein (starting in alphabetical order, which means I need to a) figure out what comes first, and b) find an e-copy of whatever that is)
user15026
SO MANY BOOKS SO LITTLE TIME
user15026
I also have to keep up with class reading. XD
15:37
@AshleyNunn Alphabetical is as good as any other, for Heinlein.
Yep, no particular order
user15026
@fbueckert Yeah, I needed some sort of system, and that seemed to be a nice one to pick.
His books do share the same universe, so they reference events in other books, but it's not like you won't understand what's going on if you don't read a certain other book first
user15026
Oh, that's good :D
@SaintWacko They only share the same universe because they bend the universes into a single one.
15:38
Well, most of them share the same universe
user15026
I figure I will make a nice list of all of the books, alphabetize it, then systematically hunt them down in epub format.
Easier system for Heinlein: Read Stranger, and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Then stop. Maybe Starship Troopers if you're curious because you saw the movie.
@LessPop_MoreFizz ...Why?
user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz I read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Quite liked it.
There are so, so, so many other good Heinlein books!
15:39
@SaintWacko because most of the rest of his work isn't that good?
@LessPop_MoreFizz :O
Which other ones have you read?
Alex Miller on October 29, 2012

Welcome to Stack Exchange podcast #35 with special guest Scott Hanselman. We also have your loyal cohosts, Jay Hanlon and David Fullerton. And Joel Spolsky?

What exactly would Scott say that he does here?

Scott Hanselman runs a podcast that doesn’t waste your time… unlike we have for the first nine minutes.

Let’s talk about Scott’s recent presentation at Webstock! Or we’ll talk about how Scott is not a developer evangelist, despite popular belief. He is a community manager for ASP.net, IIS, anything angle bracket or curly brace related, anything “webby”. …

Friday is excellent, as is Assignment in Eternity, and Starship Galileo, and The Man Who Sold the Moon, and so many others
user15026
@SaintWacko They all sound so good that I was like "I have to assign some sort of arbitrary reading order or I am going to be paralyzed by choice"
@AshleyNunn I mainly read them in alphabetical order so I know which ones I've already read
user15026
15:41
@SaintWacko That is another upside, yes.
Also, you already have a list of all of them in alphabetical order, and epubs of them :P
Let's see... I've read The Puppet Masters, Starman Jones, Starship Troopers, Have Spaceship Will Travel, Stranger, Moon is a Harsh mistress, Fear No Evil, Time Enough For Love, Job, and the Cat Who Walks Through Walls.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Spacesuit*
And you didn't like any of those?
Because people kept telling me no no no this one is good! Those other ones were only okay, but this one is really great!
The three I mentioned as worth reading range from great to pretty okay in the order I named them
Bah, all of the SE podcasts feature people I've never heard of.
15:43
The others... meh.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Puppet Masters is different, but still good
I suspect I am pickier than you.
Cat who Walks Through Walls is classic Heinlein, but the ending is depressing
We may just have different tastes. What sort of book do you usually read?
I should read more again. =[
In terms of SFF stuff, I end to be primarily into new weird type authors these days. Mieville, Vandermeer, etc. etc. etc.
user2334
15:45
@TheStackExchangeBlog Jerry Stiller? Isn't that the guy who plays George's father? I hope they asked him about roosters, hens, and chickens
@LessPop_MoreFizz Ohhh
If tu esta still en Zone A, tu es already dead muerte por que tu es estupido. No llamando 911 por que no rescue para tu!
Yeah, we have very different tastes
@SaintWacko In terms of older stuff, I like the new wave folks. Your leguins and your moorcocks.
I tried reading Mieville, and just couldn't get into it
15:46
Asmiov's complete works could be set on fire and I wouldn't shed a tear.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Yep, opposite tastes
@MarkTrapp Weird, the podcast on soundcloud says it has someone called 'Scott Hanselman'.
My favorite scifi authors are Heinlein, Asimov, and Niven
I wish I was as learned as you guys.
Todos los shelteros que esta accessible de wheelchairo. Por que esta how yo roll.
15:47
=[
hahahahahaha

@MartinSojka self-answering is not bad; it's even encouraged. But the question is inane and easily answerable with an outside resource. On sites like ours, that deserves a down-vote. But SciFi is one of 2 sites on the network that has a "general reference" close reason, where being an inane or easily-answered question is a reason to close. So the obvious question is: why wasn't it closed? That touched a few nerves.
user15026
Just called work to see if they wanted me in even without a voice. My boss was liek "since it took me three tries to understand who was calling, no, I think we are good without you today."
@MarkTrapp Self-answering your quick two-lines question with a quick two-lines answer in the same minute (so nobody else can do a better job) is encouraged ... and gets at least 15 up-votes too?
15:52
@MartinSojka There's nothing wrong with self-answering.
I don't so much question why people didn't VtC the question earlier. I question the sanity of those who actually upvoted this shoddy, amateur, low-effort, half-assed piece of non-work.
user2334
@MartinSojka According to some people on SciFi? Yeah. To the rest of SE, self answering is okay as long as the information is not found elsewhere in an easily accessible form. But sometimes questions like that go unnoticed: it was being resolved until yesterday.
user2334
Arqade has had its share of massively-upvoted questions that probably shouldn't have ever existed, too: all SE sites do. Such is the nature of a low barrier to voting. The important thing is if a community can self-correct when it comes up
@GnomeSlice For shame!
One of my cats ran away from a mouse once :(
@AshleyNunn Yay! Day off!
15:55
He's this huge cat, but he's dumb as a rock and scared of everything
Very loving cat, though, if he knows you
@SaintWacko My cats used to be scared of mice.
The neurotic one started eating them though, which was good, I guess.
user15026
@fbueckert Yeah. I was like "I can do this job silently"... my boss just laughed, told me to drink tea with honey, and enjoy the lazy time to play vidoe games. XD
@GnomeSlice I have three cats: A big fat siamese mama cat, who will just lie there and watch a mouse
I had two, but just one is left now.
My little tortoiseshell, who helps me catch mice
user15026
15:57
@SaintWacko My cat is dumb as post but super adorable...when he sees bugs, he;s like "What do I do with this OH GOD IT MOVES"
and the big dumb tabby, who runs from them
@AshleyNunn My job is possible to do from home, so when I get a sick day, I try to do what I can; I'm the only one who works on my projects, so if I don't do it, nothing gets done.
user15026
@fbueckert haha yeah, I can't pick books fo library shelves from home XD
I love my tortoiseshell, she's such a smart cat. And she listens to me
@AshleyNunn One of the benefits of being a techie. :P
15:58
@AshleyNunn You need to work on that psionics a bit more!
user15026
@SaintWacko It's a slow developing skill.
@SaintWacko I used to live with a big calico. She was very affectionate.
