Evening everyone!
Anyone who plays D3 here?
@Eugene A few :P
Okay. More distinct question. Anyone who plays with monk in D3 in here? :)
@Eugene The very same few.
The 3 main D3 players here all play Monk.
Me, @fbueckert and @OrigamiRobot
Awesome.
Wanted to ask for good Hell build
Serenity.
Serenity + whatever you want.
I personally like the Peaceful Repose rune.
When you're talking about "a good [insert difficulty] build", you're really asking "what gear do I need?", not "what skills do I need?"
21:05
Could create buil on skill calc and post link here?
In Hell is when you want to start stacking resists.
Monks are tanks.
Stack armor, dex, all resist, and one resist of your choice.
Use One With Everything as a passive, with Serenity (Peaceful Repose) and the healing one I can't remember the name of with whatever rune you want.
Use Mantra of Healing for extra resists if you have access to that rune, and you're good to go.
Fill in the gaps with whatever skills you want to deal damage.
As a Monk, stay alive, and eventually things will die.
You're not DPS, you're not going to kill things fast.
You're just going to be invincible and they'll eventually fall.
(Also, the Blizzard site is down now and I can't access the calculator.)
Get Life on Hit on your weapon, too.
What are your resists like?
My Monk has 800-900 resist all unbuffed.
Personally, if you're soloing, I would use Deadly Reach with the bonus armor rune, 7-sided-strike over mystic ally, enchantress over whatever that follower is, and then possibly dashing strike or tempest rush to get yourself out of bad situations rather than sweeping wind.
You can keep sweeping wind, though, if you have a really high crit chance.
Sweeping Wind is a very gear-dependent skill.
Oh wow get more resists.
That's your problem.
21:11
Here comes my pay day :(
Low on cash and need new stuff.
You're already at least level 57.
If you're going to spend real money on the game, wait until you hit 60.
That way you can buy real gear, rather than spending real money on gear to last you for 2 levels.
I do believe that.
So dmg should be gained only by weapons, not by skills?
Since as I see, they are derected at preserving life.
Man, ALL I want to do right now is play Dungeon Defenders.
21:14
@Eugene I'm not sure what you're asking here, but really: Use whatever skill build you want. I gave you some guidelines above, but break those if you want too because nothing is really set in stone.
When it comes to progressing, the quality of your gear is more important than the coherence of your build.
Player skill and build play a part, but gear is really the limiting factor.
@StrixVaria Okay. I see.
Learning which gear is good is part of getting your first character to 60.
I didn't value resists at all on my first character, and it was the worst.
So cash collecting at the moment should be my primary quest.
My Monk was second, and he was a much easier experience.
Yeah, gain your last 2 levels and get as much gold as you can so you can buy resist all gear at 60.
@StrixVaria what is you battle tag?
21:16
@Eugene I don't remember the numbers.
Okay.
That's not his real weapon, though.
I was messing around last time I played.
Usually I use a shield with 80 resist all and ~45 poison resist.
So you use only one weapon?
Yeah, I use a one-handed weapon and shield most of the time.
With the recent changes I might switch it up to two weapons, both with Life on Hit.
I haven't played my monk too much since the patch.
Are you gaining paragon levels already?
21:19
My Witch Doctor is paragon level 12.
That's the one I've been playing for the last few weeks.
Ou. I see.
Darn. EU servers down. Wanted to show you my heroes.
Well, not down, but closed due to maintenance
@StrixVaria waht rune?

Q: List of Aquatic Helms

newuserIs there a list of Aquatic helms available with how to get them? I have noticed that some heart karma vendors sell them.

Q: Simulate analogue steering wheel input from third party software like xPadder

David JensenI currently have a steering wheel connected to my htpc, running Windows 8. Since it doesn't work with (or get recognized by) all the games I play, I use xpadder. As far as I understand, it simply presses the associated arrow key when I turn the wheel. What I would like is a software to simulate...

Time of Need.
It gets better the more resists you have already, though.
Okay.
21:35
Lol, what the hell is this.
@GnomeSlice Something you should probably not be one-boxing.
Oiled-up Huntress?
Lol, that's on the official site, too. It's the second image under 'media'.
@GnomeSlice Pretty sure you're familiar with the term "fanservice" by now, whether or not you yourself consider it a service
@GraceNote Actually, I don't think it's fan art.
@GnomeSlice I said fanservice. Not fanart
21:47
@GraceNote Not familiar with 'fanservice' then. Oh wait, maybe I am.
Is that like the ecchi Easter Egg that the dev of Forever's End decided to add in for people who complete a specific side quest?
@GnomeSlice ...You know what ecchi is, but you don't know what fanservice is?
@GnomeSlice Fanservice is basically things made explicitly to appeal to a fanbase. For example, the traditional "beach episode" that shows the otherwise clothed female cast of a show in bathing suits is often considered fanservice for the male audience.
There's a massive disconnect in there.
@fbueckert To be fair, I've run into people who knew obscure video games but never heard of Super Mario.
21:48
@GraceNote Aha. Gotcha. Not a very descriptive term.
> "Fanservice" is sometimes used in a more general way, to mean adding things to a show that don't need to be there, but nonetheless please the viewers. When this is something non-sexual, like needlessly flashy attacks in a Humongous Mecha show, it's Pandering to the Base. Sexy fanservice is considered the default form, because it is everywhere, and it's easy to add to any kind of show.
lol
@GnomeSlice It's probably more inline to those familiar enough with the term. But in general, sexy posing in skimpy outfits is a very common form of fanservice
@GraceNote Eh. The two terms are basically the same thing. Either way, though, it's hard to believe.
Speaking of which, I need to continue playing Forever's End. Goddamn Dungeon Defenders...
@GraceNote Did you slap them?
@fbueckert Not really. Ecchi is also an adjective to describe a very particular kind of content, or a very particular kind of desire. Fanservice is specifically the product, whether or not it's ecchi.
21:51
'Forever's Ecchi'
Anyway, I'm off.
@GnomeSlice I bet you are.
@GraceNote In the technical sense, yes. But rarely is your first exposure to anime fanservice going to be anything but ecchi. And seeing as how that's the term he knows...
@fbueckert But if he only knows the term ecchi, still doesn't mean he'd know the term fanservice
They're not the same thing because they're two separate circles. There's an overlap where they meet, but unless you know there's a second term, you have no reason to believe that a second term exists.
21:55
@GraceNote This is the Internet we're talking about, here. Half of it or more caters to fanservice. I find it extremely unlikely that term to be unknown.

Q: How can I find all buildings of a certain type in Anno 1404?

Adrian GrigoreIn Anno 1404, is there any way to find out how many buildings of a certain type (for example Carpenters) I have built in my settlement and where they are located? This is a not an issue in small settlements, but larger cities can be quite confusing. Thanks, Adrian

@fbueckert Only if you're in those zones, and even then you still need the term explicitly stated to know that it exists.
It's even been said here on chat, but it's not unreasonable to have simply been absent at the times it's mentioned.
22:22
but why, Judas. It's been a pleasure, as always
(three ticks of damage my fine bottom.)
I only wish I'd taken the nail along the ride
Nail + battery is just game-breakingly good.
22:43
Hi chat
@GraceNote I'm going to be in Holyoke all day tomorrow. Based on the 20 minutes I spent up there today, I feel compelled to ask you: Should I be keeping my windows rolled up up there?
By the way, there's a new review queue (first posts)

@murgatroid99 I Approve of this Queue.
@murgatroid99 They should really make it so that if I've already taken action on the question I can press I'm done.

I love it when I get to use code formatting in Arqade answers.

Q: Stuck in the Northern Crater on FF7 for PC

JasarienI've been replaying FF7 since it was re-released for PC this summer. I've gotten to the part near the end of the game where the characters enter the Northen Crater to face Sephiroth. I only went in to get the final items/materia and train up before going back out to face the Weapons and get Clou...

23:27
@fbueckert I only learned that term extremely recently.
I'm still not 100% sure I know what it is.
Huh... super crate box is on steam?

Q: How can you get through grinding in games

LordJubblesI've found a little problem in how I play videogames. Once I reach past the first third of the game I find myself getting bored with the task at hand and switching to a new game. As a result of this, i have hundreds of games that I've not even played half of. Is there any tips on how to extend at...
