Q: Is it normal that my .minecraft folder takes up a large amount of disk space?

AK_GamextremeI wanted to backup my .minecraft folder. When I pressed Alt + Enter, it showed me that my folder was nearly 9GB. It it normal for a .minecraft folder to take up this much disk space?

00:44
uninstall titanfall 2
01:26
Holy fuck that is bad
Basically anyone that hacked the TF2 servers could run any code on your machine? So install whatever they liked?
If you got tf2 on your machine dont just uninstall. Scan for crypto miners.
01:37
think it might be related to the hackers who have been plaguing the Titanfall Multiplayer

@GnomeSlice ..... I am more worried that they managed to craft arbitrary code execution bugs on console too
@SaintWacko the expedition is underway.
SIX WEEKS
I didn't had time to check all milestones.
So I don't know if the horrible length is because they have realized that a week for the Normandy was utterly bad.... or because this time the thing is even more grind than usual.

@SPArcheon The PS4, PS5, XBone, and XBXS all use the same architecture as modern PCs (amd64), so while you have to do a bunch of juggling to take into account the different storage layouts and available OS facilities and whatnot, the same object code will run on all of them, and because of this there is probably a nontrivial amount of code in common between TFall2 PC and console.
14:24
@SPArcheon But I'm playing Runescape!
@ToxicFrog true. I just expect that generally speaking the console runs games in a sandbox that would be a little better than what transpires there. I am fully used to games running at what is almost OS permission level thanks to stupid requirements (YAY! DRM!) but I would at least hope that a PS4 game could only add screenshots in its own folder but for example was unable to delete pictures taken from other games.
Such claim makes me think the console isn't just as well though as I hoped for.
14:47
@SaintWacko It is supposed to be annoying. Why have a time limited event that requires you to play on a separate save slot and require the same multitool upgrades again and again otherwise?
15:28
@SPArcheon If anything, I'd expect console game code to be more trusted, because it's all distributed and/or certified by the console manufacturer.
@murgatroid99 yep but the point here is a bug in the framework the game (Titanfall) is based upon, and allegedly the bug allows for arbitrary code execution.
It already kinda baffles me that in 2021 we didn't yet started to seriously think to rework things like Windows to work on a paranoid premise like for example... Qubes OS
@SPArcheon Yeah, I know. But the existence of that bug now doesn't change whatever design decisions console manufacturers already made.
@SPArcheon There's always a tradeoff. People want performance. Trading that 99% of the time for a little more security 1% of the time isn't a tradeoff most customers are going to want to make.
@murgatroid99 that's the point I was trying to make. Arbitrary code or not, I hope that a ps5 game can't execute code that for example changes your psn password

New Matrix trailer is really good. Hopefully the movie is as good as the trailer. Last matrix movie was garbage.
16:34
seems fine so far....
16:53
Lmao
whats pretty funny is the teaser website
I looked into how they had a video tell the actual tim
time
and they did it the long way. 1440 videos, and it just loads the right one
@Fredy31 ...................
i was like 'i really wonder what tech they used, must be bad ass!
no, they just occupied the intern for a week
@SPArcheon Microsoft has tried that with 8. They wanted to close down Windows more and focus on UWP apps, which allow for better sandboxing
But there was also the other side of the coin
Namely that there was 30 years or so of back catalog that Microsoft wanted to avoid breaking
Like, imagine if they said "you can't run any games that released before Vista anymore"
And there's loads of corporate software as well
@Nzall I've often heard that why they skipped Windows 9 was that a lot of programs, for compatibility, were checking do you run something that starts with Windows 9 to get 93-95-97. So that's why they skipped to 10. Windows 9 would have fucked those programs
18:01
Windows 93 isn't a real Windows operating system. It's just 95 and 98

Q: Injustice 2 will not start on Xbox One

Cat of doom2For some reason, Injustice 2 won't start. I bought it on a disc and tried everything to fix it and make it start, such as I have reinstalled several times, restarted Xbox several time, cleared all unused data on the Xbox, tried starting it with no DLC, tried deleting and then unplugging the Xbox ...

18:30
@PrivatePansy New Windows 11 XL Lite & Knuckles
@Wipqozn weirdly enough, the third matrix movie has kinda flipped for me growing up. when i was younger, i hated the architect scene because it was so boring to me but now i actually enjoy the actor's diction and the flowery language but the neo vs. smith fight just feels like it drags on for too long
oh wait, the architect scene was in the second movie, wasn't it?
yeah, that was the second movie
19:14
19:41
the most i'm hoping for from a new matrix movie is reclaiming the term "red pill" from the alt-right
@Yuuki It's quite weird that a bunch of transphobes managed to claim a term originally created by a work heavily steeped in transgender parables and allegories

Q: How to get my turtles to stay in their pond?

SlogoMy turtles aren't staying on my pond in Minecraft, and I don't know why. They were born there, I actually bred them and it's the place where they also hatched. But once they are done laying eggs they go far away and do not stay on my really big pond with seagrass, kelp, and with some other fishes...

@Nzall the internet crowd has always been a big fan of eschewing any sort of metaphorical or symbolic interpretation in favor of literalism
@Nzall Wasnt there a cut character that was called Switch that was a woman in the matrix, but a man in reality?
I think so yeah
19:51
And that makes sense because one of the directing brothers transitionned since the Matrix movies
didn't they both transition?
Tought it was only one.
Like, I think they're called the Wachowski sisters now
Lana Wachowski (born June 21, 1965, formerly known as Larry Wachowski) and Lilly Wachowski (born December 29, 1967, formerly known as Andy Wachowski) are American film and television directors, writers and producers. The sisters are both trans women.Collectively known as the Wachowskis (), the sisters have worked as a writing and directing team through most of their careers. They made their directing debut in 1996 with Bound, and achieved fame with their second film The Matrix (1999), a major box office success for which they won the Saturn Award for Best Director. They wrote and directed its two...
Oh well yep, they both did
yeah, one in 2008 and the other in 2016
19:52
But yeah, that character was CLEARLY grounded in something lol
@Fredy31 i don't believe switch was cut, but rather a scene that explicitly drew attention to the fact that she was a woman in the matrix and that he was a man outside of it
Anyone that cares about PS, they have a showcase starting in a few minutes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5VtfD2i3rc
spent a good amount of time trying to figure out the proper pronouns because they were never explicitly stated to be trans
@Yuuki Switch was cut as full-on being a different gender in the matrix and in Zion, but still presented as androgynous in the movie to pay homage to the idea
19:56
Yeah, I can see why WB stepped in and said no. The transgender movement made a lot of ground in the last 15 yrs
like early 2000s an openly gay character that was not just a joke/parody would have been a hard sell for execs. Imagine one openly transgender
Like I do think that B99's Captain Holt would have been a hard sell in the early 2000s. The execs would have requested he's hetero
@Fredy31 Austin Powers had a bisexual character in a supporting role in the 90s
The following is a list of films with fictional and factual lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender characters. The films were released theatrically, as direct-to-video, or on a streaming platform. For queer characters ("Q" in LGBTQ), see lists for asexual, intersex, non-binary, and pansexual characters. == Film franchises == Film franchises share common universes. The following film series collectively feature LGBT characters in a leading or supporting role. == Stand-alone films == === 20th century === ==== 1900–1959 ==== ==== 1960–1979 ==== ==== 1980–1989 ==== ==== 1990–1999...
she's also an evil/villainous character
sooooo
villains have always been portrayed kinda queer, that's not a good thing
Was Pussy Galore a villain in Bond?
hmm, looks like she did a heel-face turn
Galore was heavily implied to be lesbian in the movie
and then bond "fixes" her by loving her so well she becomes straight/bi
i would not point to james bond as a likely source of positive LGBT depictions
20:04
true
But there ought to be enough depictions of LGBT characters in that movie list
I would complete my point. 'A non joke/parody, and in which the relationship is actually depicted'
Like the quick read of the list I did, most of them were 'mentionned quickly' but it never amounted to much. Like a throwaway line says it, but it doesn't have much point or depiction
oooo kotor remake
@Fredy31 There are a couple of supporting characters in some of them, but a lot of them aren't really mainstream movies
like, holy hell, pussy galore's LGBT representation is super problematic. when she identifies as a lesbian (via movie dialogue basically all but spelling it out), she's working for the bad guy. and then bond quite literally sexually assaults her and afterwards, she turns on the bad guy and also coincidentally is now willing to be sexually available to bond
the implications are quite frankly disgusting
@Fredy31 counterpoint: Brokeback Mountain
Though that's not really "early" 2000s anymore
20:10
Isnt Brokeback like 2010
@Nzall that's what you would call an exception that proves the rule
2005
it was very controversial at the time
yep 2005
yeah, it was definitely not an easy sell for the execs
I think it was when things started to turn around
20:11
it wasn't just when things started to turn around, favorable critical reception to brokeback mountain was part of the cause
and from my dumbass in front of a screen analysis of the LGBT presence in cinema, that might be the breaking point where it was less hard to sell. They could point at a movie having a gay relationship front and center and say 'that worked, so why would it be a dealbreaker for us'
yeah, that's what I meant
Wasn't BBM nominated for an Oscar?
yeah, it was
oh sorry, that was a different awards show
> At the 78th Academy Awards, Brokeback Mountain was nominated for Best Picture and won three awards for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Original Score. The film garnered seven nominations at the 63rd Golden Globe Awards, and won four awards. At the 59th British Academy Film Awards, Brokeback Mountain was nominated for nine awards, winning Best Film, Best Direction, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Gyllenhaal).
Yep if something will make film execs be more open to something, well, its awards
