@fbueckert It's basically a security system in later GM models but they give out and when they do, it causes all kinds of shitty problems. The current issue is that the car will be going and then it shuts off....like when going 65 miles per hour. Just off.

@fbueckert bethesda games don't hit home with me. I played Skyrim, thought it amusing, and got bored with it about 30 hours in when I realised I hadn't done a damned thing but level way beyond everything else.
@fbueckert yeah, but the solution is to take the resistance of something on the key, and then jam a similar value resistor into a wiring harness... that's not exactly inspiring confidence
@agent86 and also, we've taken it to three mechanics and all of them have pretty much just said "your car is crap" (which is true but not that point) or scratched their head in total utter confusion
@spugsley Essentially, the security system works by running electricity through your key. If it doesn't get the correct amount of voltage back, it thinks something is wrong, and kills the engine. Make sense?

@spugsley I think they're wanting you to measure the resistance across the small bit of metal in the center of the black section of your car's key. you'd need a multimeter of some description for this.
We recently have put a lot of effort in coming up with a unique brand name for this community. As you know, naming is hard! After numerous brain storming sessions, we found a great name(and was able to obtain the domain name). It was suggested in a community chat session, and "Arqade" was chosen....

I just bought the Humble Indie Bundle V and I installed the games direct from the downloaded exe's. Today I noticed that there are Steam codes for all of these, which is pretty awesome. @spugsley from what I can gather, there's a tiny resistor of a particular value in your key. when the key is in the ignition, the car "checks" the resistor value, and only starts if it is correct.
@spugsley this hack bypasses the resistor in your key, with one that is directly wired into the electronics of the car. this overrides the key's resistor
if the issue is somewhere between the wiring harness and your key, or in the key itself, having the resistor down in the harness would bypass this problem.

@GnomeSlice it was difficult for me to come up with this new logo or site design. I tried using "literal" arcade as design elements, just didn't work out

@James hehe i considered that. but with the site design, I also have to think about when we do site takeover for game promos, e.g. ME3, Diablo3 etc. having an empty space themed header area works the best.

@Jin Spray paint graffiti over the store front, or like a sign that lists the bands playing in a local bar maybe? But yeah take overs would be consuming :D
also another challenge is, I know people don't like to have their cheese moved. I didn't want to make drastic changes with the new branding. the existing theme's elements actually work well with the Arqade/arcade theme.
@RonanForman Man, everything works better if you do it yourself. I have 3DS max (which... may or many not be licensed for commercial use via student licensing) and the shape isn't too difficult.
@Jin the grey background of the community bulletin always looked a bit out of place to me, is there a fitting alternative for that in the new design? It doesn't really fit into the design IMHO, but that might also just be because it was added later and I was used to the old design.
@spugsley Yeah. You see that little black plastic blob in the center of the key? Notice how it's got metal sticking out of the center of the plastic blob? Those are contacts that a current is run through. Just make sure those metal bars are clean and not gunked up.
@spugsley Nah. Not that sensitive. I wouldn't recommend putting the key in the dishwasher, but just use a damp rag with some soap and water to make sure the key is clean.

@spugsley LOL. Hopefully it would be something that simple. I missed the beginning of the conversation, but do you by chance also see a security light flashing when the car dies?
@RESPAWN when it dies, all the gauges drop to the red, and the car bucks like it's starving for fuel and then it shuts off. I never noticed a security light though :/
@spugsley :( That sounds like something more than the anti-theft system kicking in, unfortunately. But hey! It wouldn't hurt to try cleaning the key anyway.
@spugsley If you do take it to a mechanic, I'd be interested to hear what he said. But, at this point I don't want to throw out any theories of my own as to what the problem may be.
@FAE LOL. Well I'm not a proper mechanic. Sometimes I get lucky and figure out a problem. Other times, I try a few things and then tell my friend that they need to pay somebody to look at it.
@RESPAWN the problem is we've been to a few mechanics and they've all been stumped. Most of them suggested that it was the ECM so we replaced that but it's still giving us problems even with that being new

How can I predict / calculate how much DPS my char will deal afterwards, given I have access to all numbers required?
@spugsley It sounds to me like it could be a bunch of things. That said, I had an old Corolla with similar issues. Turned out, the ground wire going from the battery to the chassis had gotten corroded. The wire wasn't making good contact with the chassis anymore.
@RonanForman Sort of. I was thinking of starting at a fictional store front outside, and 'flying' in through the doors and around the 'arcade' up to a machine with the video in it.

@spugsley But then there was a friend's race car with a different issue. Whenever the ECM came into contact with the chassis, it ground out and the car died. (The fix was to just wrap it up in newspaper and bungie to the floor for the rest of the race. LOL.)
I guess what I"m trying to say is that, it's easy to theorize, but hard to say for certain from here. :(
