I'm shocked
Whoever created the SC2 tag will get it soon, I'd guess.
00:51
@Mana should have it already
@Juan Why are you shocked?
@Mana Actually Ivo has that tag
The surprising thing is Grace's badge
Downvoter
Because I though somebody else was going to get that one

06:13
morning
someone noticed me creating the starcraft2 tag? ^^
scroll up a bit: @Mana and @CRoss were discussing the tag
oh cool
should have picked WoW and CoD too :P
or G-H
06:27
I didn't join till after all the good ones were taken
there will be new good ones :)
07:07
hey, I broke 3k
gaming is the only room populated 24/7. you guys are hardcore. :)
I think its because we're from such diverse places
also, there are a lot of us
is it just me or is Isaiah Mustafa awesome
Nope, he's awesome
Isaiah Mustafa (born February 11, 1974) is an American actor and former practice squad wide receiver in the NFL. Career Mustafa played basketball and ran track at Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, California. and became a free safety, then a wide receiver, with a scholarship. Mustafa started for Arizona State but had an unspecified "confrontation" with a coach and was benched his senior year. Expecting to become a high school teacher after graduation, a sports agent suggested that Mustafa try out for NFL teams. The Tennessee Titans signed him to the practice squad, then sent him to N...
07:22
yeah I was just reading that
"Enchanting success filled people who are winning at life and deserve cakes."
well @Jeff you have a new goal in life, to get into that book
THE LIST WE WERE ALL BORN TO BE ON
that guy seems like our version of santa claus
Look at me, now look down, now back at me, I'm wearing a red jumpsuit, now look down, now back at me, its a bag full of toys
07:36
I must catch them all!
Naturally
I remember when it was just Mew Two and you had to save your Masterball for him
haha
I feels young :(
in all fairness 6.10 wasn't great
don't worry Arda its the internet
just pretend you're 50
people will treat you about the same
07:40
yeah but that's messed up when people start talking about old times
dude, I remember computers before HD
and I don't mean high def
oh man, do you remember battlezone?
any of them?

Q: Can you name an early 1990s tank based shooting game on Macintosh System 7.5?

Nick JosevskiThere was a very simple tank shooting game that came out in the early 1990s for Macintosh System 7.5 (I was able to run it on System 7). I only have some very random memories about it; anyone have an idea on what it was called? Game features: Tank shooter, in a fixed arena (squared box). Inte...

yeah, thank you gaming bot
I used to play that game for hours
it was one of 3 games I had on my old mac
there was Battlzone, some sort of flight simulator where I always died when I landed and Myst
I'm confused. I've been away for a week and I remain at the top, I'm back for a few days and I'm 4th. I'm not complaining or anything, just.. confused.
which was either the best or the worst game of all time
at the top?
07:48
rep-wise
you can gain rep even if you'r enot around
your questions can still get upvoted
yeah, I know, but still
for a week
and for this entire week I haven't seen one question I could answer
most of my rep comes from a couple answers I wrote weeks ago
80
A: What build order should I use for Zerg in StarCraft 2?

tzenesAn opening dictates how you are going to start the match. The basic Zerg openings: 10 Pool (Rush) 13 Pool (Standard) 14 Pool, 16 Hatch (Macro) 14 Hatch, 15 Pool (Macro+) 13 Gas, 13 Pool (NeoZerg) 12 Pool (Sen Style) How to read these: The number indicates the number of drones you should buil...

most of my rep comes from those too

A: Can I trust "Steam"-powered games? Any unwanted behavior installed with Steam?

Arda XiYes, you can trust it. It is non-intrusive and all it does (at minimum) is manage your games and patches for you. Anything else is optional. It doesn't install anything but the software you need (like DirectX) and the games and patches. Nothing you don't want, unless you don't want the game you'...

Good answers continue to be useful to people
so they keep upvoting them
and you keep getting rep
07:50
yeah, but like this one
25
A: Steam says friend is playing Hello Kitty?

Arda XiAs Gnoupi said, it's possible to report any game you want to play as a non-Steam game. In this case, it's a joke reference to the episode "Make Love, Not Warcraft" of South Park, in which Butters prefers Hello Kitty Island Adventure over World of Warcraft. As far as I know no such game exists.

in reality a good question is probably better for the community, but a good answer will get your more rep
didn't even answer the question itself
it explains why something random which isn't a game is there
just because you didn't answer the question he asked, doesn't mean you didn't answer the question he meant to ask
or would have asked, had he known enough to ask it
fair enough, but I feel guilty for stealing upvotes from cowgod and gnoupi
that's not how that works
its not like people couldn't also upvote them
or they would have gotten those votes if you weren't around
07:53
it does in practice thouh
that's not true
I upvote more than one answer per question
my answer has 21 upvotes, while cowgod's (much more descriptive) has 6
so
?
only 6 people thought it was a good answer
21 people thought yours was good
the rep represents your value to the community
your answer was more valuable
either most people know that they can add whatever game to steam, or don't care
by comparison they really do care to know where the Hello Kitty reference comes from
heh, so my age does come in handy
nah, my dad watches south park too
they really need to make a battlezone 3
and while they're at it a Final Fantasy Tactics 2
and since I'm wishing for things, Chrono Trigger remake
oh fuck yeah, battlezone is abandonware
Welcome to the best 1998 has to offer
08:04
I'm back again!
hey Ivo
oh man, you know what is another game they should remake
Sacrifice
Sacrifice is a video game published by Interplay Entertainment in 2000 for the Windows 98 platform. Developed by Shiny Entertainment, it is a real-time strategy game, featuring elements of action and other genres. Players control wizards who fight each other with spells and summoned creatures. Sacrifice was the first commercial video game to take advantage of video graphics cards that can process transform, clipping, and lighting instructions. The game was ported to Mac OS 9.2 in 2001. Unlike many contemporary real-time strategy games, Sacrifice does not heavily focus on resource gatheri...
omg how old are you?
you're naming games I never ever heard off
noone did
it didn't do good marketing
Ok, well battlezone is old
just peeps at Amazon who had to manage the stock ;-)
but FFT is PS1
08:06
well, I'm from the time when the people you shot looked like people :/
dude, Sacrifice predates Amazon selling video games
I'm 25, so my first real computer game memory (other than the gameboy) are DOS games
Oh, this is way younger than dos
In battle zone they look like people
Prince of Persia, Bubble Bubble, Golden Axe that kind of stuff
you just have to get out of the tank first
Oh man, Golden Axe
08:07
yeah it said windows 98
they need to remake that
no, but I mean you can recognise that they're people and all, with detail
you're talking to a guy who used to play Counter Strike competitively
all I see are blips on the screen
I only played against n00bs
as far as I'm concerned they still don't look like people
08:08
my brother ones put a small dot on his screen, the center of his crossair, then ran around with an AWP using it as a shotgun
I actually remember beating bubble buble
it had 100 levels
I think I played it on the NES or the SNES
can't remember which
just remember this 12 inch TV
and no save games I guess?
and me and my brother crowded around it
no, you had to write down codes
08:09
I can only remember playing it, not beating it :P
talk about old school
oh man its on XBL
brb
Dude, when I found out Sacrifice was on Steam
I nearly shit a brick
did you try it again?
of course
08:11
memory is a bitch sometimes, because the replay tends to suck
that game was ground breaking
even more ground breaking than netstorm
there has never been a RTSFPS as good as Sacrifice
I'm playing Starcraft, so I know what the story's about
I'd go so far as to say that the only RTS better is Starcraft BW
They tell you during the installer for SC2
well I was just gonna say that Starcraft's controls suck :P
hehe
so in Sacrifice you have 2 resources
08:12
I know, but I like the old school cut scenes too
souls and mana
gas and ore? :P
mana regenerates constantly, but souls you need to gather
and you can use souls to summon guys
and it has a gesture based control system for ordering them around
this was before Black and White
sounds interesting, you can go all out, but if you mana doesn't regen quick enough... :P
mana regenerates proportional to the number of Manaliths you construct
and you can only construct them on Managysers
08:14
well my first experience with RTS's was Dune 2, that game rocked
that alone is not enough, to get the mana from the Manalith to you, you need Manawhores
I so loved that story and the different classes
haha you mean warlocks? :P
Manawhores bring the mana from the Manalith on the Managyser to you
oh man this was the greatest game ever
and you engaged in this mercantile battle for souls
to get more souls you had to kill enemy units and then sacrifice them on your alter
which turned their red souls into blue souls you could use to summon more guys
and once you killed all his guys and sacked his alter
while tzenes shares his old war time memories, you guys have a thought on this one:

Q: Voting on the future of list of X questions

Ivo FlipseAs of now we have several questions discussing what to do with list of X and games-rec questions: Here's a summary of all that has been said before (and was upvoted): Should we allow poll questions - Result: no, we shouldn't Best/favourite/subjective list type questions - Result: no potential ...

you the sac'd the enemy on your alter
I'd actually ban game-rec questions, but that's just me
08:19
lol so you could use the opponents resources against themselves?
like I said it was Mercantilistic
btw your description would be something worthy of a list question, but every answer would need so much detail :)
I could probably write a god damn book about why Sacrifice is the greatest game ever made
they used tessilation to handle depth of field
back in 2000
thats DirectX10 stuff
a decade before
Oh, and Tim Curry did the voice of Stratos
not to mention the art was done by the Earth Worm Jim team
damn, imdb isn't a magic link
propose that in the chat feedback, it should be
I really think we should have a new resource hog, so developers get creative again
now your computer can be so much overkill, why bother trying to optimize (ok blizzard games maybe an exception)
they still exist
but its not the bit hacking like it used to be
I dunno, with better machines comes more casual developers
and with casual developers comes more games
08:25
yeah but it does take out some of the creativeness
I don't be believe everyone should be doing it
I dunno
but some should and the others should learn from it
means the focus lies elsewhere, which is good
think of all the great books that would get written if everyone could write a book
no, it's just: look at the commodore 64
what people could do with such limitations
08:26
with gaming, a lot of good progress is made in separating the processes, you don't have to write a good engine to make a good game
I dunno Ivo, look at Ruby on Rails and what people did with that
I actually hope things like Kinect and 3D become a resource hog and people will have to find workarounds to keep up anyway
and that's about as abstract as it gets
3D isn't a resource hog
its O(n)
well you get less fps on the ps3 :P
that's setting the bar kinda low
08:28
ok your right
anyway Battlezone finished downloading
so I'm going to go play that
then maybe some netstorm
w00t
bye
and I'll finish off my retrogaming night with bubble bobble
gnight
so who here wants to keep list of X questions alive
valya
oh
valya
08:33
wow
Bernhard Hofmann
@Ivo - how do you spend SO much time on Stack Exchange sites?
Bernhard Hofmann
You're like Skeet ;)
I was about to say: I feel like abusing my moderator powers
but you flatter me
Bernhard Hofmann
hehe
I'm nowhere near as good as Jon
Bernhard Hofmann
08:35
I didn't really want to say that LOL!
Bernhard Hofmann
So how does this work? Is it using websockets?
and I'm actually only active on the Meta side of things at the moment, since I'm in the process of quitting my job and moving back from Belgium to the Netherlands, so I can't really concentrate on answering questions
this chat? I have absolutely no idea, but feel free to ask it in chat feedback
Bernhard Hofmann
Ah, you're Dutch
Bernhard Hofmann
I should have guess, with a name like Flipse
Bernhard Hofmann
cool
08:37
doesn't sound that Dutch to me actually (I'm Dutch too)
you can edit your previous line by pressing UP
In Zeeland it's pretty common apparently
Ah, yeah, I can imagine. I'm more in the Randstad
Bernhard Hofmann
Can only edit the previous 1 line, not go back any further, so once you've goofed and corrected the old way, you're stuck. Ho hum.
no you can than click on the thing at the start of the sentence, and click edit
Bernhard Hofmann
I wonder what introduces the dotted lines in conversation? People leaving/entering?
08:40
did you get another one?
no, it's when you leave the tab, I think
everything below the dotted line was posted since you left the tab, everything above it before you reopened it
Bernhard Hofmann
I see dots running full width (including the name and avatar area and chat area).
(by leave I mean open another)
that's actually a nice visual cue than @ArdaXi
Bernhard Hofmann
Not sure I know what you mean by "tab"
08:42
sorry, chrome-based thinking
but I can be so active, because in my previous job my work wasn't exactly pressing me to do much, so I found ways to spend my time
the webpage, window, tab, whichever your method of browsing is
some people still use IE6 @ArdaXi ;-)
I know
right now, I get to work at work for about 2 months, but I should be practicing Python, rather than chatting all day long
08:43
I have work to do too, but the chat is just so good
Bernhard Hofmann
Yep, I gotta get on as well
Bernhard Hofmann
Nice chat window - I like it.
Bernhard Hofmann
bb
well, I can sort of combine chatting with programming
I try to, but I can't say it's compiling with Python :P
08:50
Looks good :)
the chat you mean?

2 hours later…
10:23
w00t I declare win for the starcraft tag
it beat game-rec
it's like 25 questions a day
ok perhaps it's getting a little bit overkill relative to other topics
but still I think it's impressive, since it shows what this site is all about
judging by my notifier, this site is pretty much Starcraft 2 Exchange
we'll just have to wait for the next big thing to release
like Cataclysm, Fifa 2011 or the new Guitar Hero/Rock Band games
speaking of tags, this could be a lot better
10:26
feel free to edit it ;-)
I am
I'm quickly running back to my Python exercises :P
I have no idea what to write though :)
Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by the Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and related media online, from small independent developers to larger software houses. Steam also has community features, automated game updates, and in-game voice and chat functionality. As of 2010, there are over 1,200 games available through Steam, and over 30 million active user accounts. Although Valve never releases sales figures, Steam is estimated to have a 70% share of the digital distribution market for video game...
enjoy
meh, I doubt it'll get enough views to put a lot of effort in
and besides, I can't just plagiarize wikipedia
the game-rec wiki was very well done, I wonder who wrote it
10:30
sounds like one of the mods
I like that they put in the query
me too
didn't even know it was possible
to query like that?
yeah
I have no idea how to query for votes (never bothered), I always looked at page views
like doing it on Super User, to check for spam
I don't think anyone will see the tag-wiki though
as useful as it might be
10:36
it will be, it needs a more prominent place somewhere
I suggest taking it to MSO, because it's a good point
but I do see value in it
it's a fairly new function though
something like a note when you add it as a tag
for instance
now it's a tab when you click the tag
perhaps it should get some space in the sidebar
or be used as a summary above all the questions
just a few lines of blurb
like the ads are on SO
yeah something like that
I do like this one too: superuser.com/questions/…
because people added some question from that tag which you think anyone should read
for instance if you get a lot of duplicates
it should be in there
although I wonder why those three questions are unlinked/unasked
10:42
work in progress ;-)
10:52
the site needs more questions I can answer :(
hehe, which is why I rarely answer questions on Super User nowadays
ah well, gives me more time to work on AnyHub
yeah
is that an alternative to yousendit?
10:55
well, it's a file hosting service, so by that logic, sure
except, err, what
you just got a new member :P
" Get a return receipt ($3.99)"
well, not me, AnyHub's not mine, I'm just an employee (partner I guess)
it's ran by a friend of mine, I'm just redoing the code
hehe, well someone is now using your code
if I see a need for it that is :P
:D
files can be 10 GiB max
yeah I read the FAQ, but I don't have to move files atm
but it's good to keep in mind
can you upload any file type I like?
10:59
yes, anything
so long as it doesn't violate the ToS
