cursive is bad, but Russian cursive is holy grail of bad

apparently this is readable

the problem is that half the alphabet in cyrillic cursive is literally just squigglies

and when you string them together you get a long squiggly

I can't write russian cursive, I can't even write english cursive

I gave up cursive in grade 5 when I thought it looked dumb

I write in print and it looks nice and it's not much slower than cursive

well actually I always thought it looked dumb, but in grade 5 I was rebel enough to give it up :P

Video game Lara was far more ambivalent about her father's legacy than movie Lara looks to be.

the reboot games have great storytelling and Lara has lots of personality

the movie trailer seems to mix reboot with the old Lara

she seems to be lacking personality and that scene where she takes two pistols with the snarky "I'll take two" comment just seems a bit cringy

My first world problem: My employer has generous charitable donation matching with direct from paycheck donations. They also do additional matching for disaster relief for limited times and specific organizations. There have been enough disasters this year that I may use up my remaining paychecks before I can use up my regular gift match.

There's an internal tool that lets us make charitable donations directly from future paychecks. They also match a certain amount of donations per year, and they do additional matching for disaster relief for specific disasters.

More major disastrous events in a single year means more available match money for donations, which means I'm donating more money, and there's not that much of the year left, so I'm wondering if I'll run out of future paychecks this year before I run out of available match money

I mostly just think it's really cool that they do this

Normally, Google matches $6,000 per year per employee of charitable donations. But they'll also sometimes say something like "For the next month, we're matching an additional $1,000 per employee for donations to the Red Cross for Hurricane Maria relief"

And every time there's a new natural disaster, they do that again with organizations like Red Cross, and MSF, and UNICEF

So far, in the past month, there's been 2 major hurricanes that hit America, 2 major earthquakes in Mexico, and a major flood in India
