Seriously
Cut it with the flags
I will turn this car around

Preferably with an epilepsy warning.
@Unionhawk Bridge*
@Unionhawk *the beat
@Yuuki I read this as "I will turn this car around, preferably with an epilepsy warning"
"General Arqade chat, wherein we have the worst gifs on the internet. Period."
@DanmakuGrazer "General Arqade chat, wherein we have the best gifs and the worst flags on the internet. Period."
@DanmakuGrazer I've seen worse
The Canso Causeway (Cabhsair Chanso in Gaelic) is a 1,385 m (4,544 ft) rock-fill causeway in Nova Scotia, Canada. The causeway crosses the Strait of Canso, connecting Cape Breton Island by road to the Nova Scotia peninsula. Its crest thickness is 40 m (130 ft), carrying the two vehicle traffic lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway, Nova Scotia Highway 104 on the mainland side, and Nova Scotia Highway 105 on the Cape Breton side, as well as the single track mainline of the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway. Constructed in an "S" shape, the causeway has a base width of 244 m (801 ft) in waters...
Not the same structure pictured, but has a similar swing bridge
Oh, so it is behind a text link now but the text is the link address.
:|
17:06
Oh. We've got a railway bridge that turns like that not far from here, over the river.
Meanwhile, in Missouri...
@fredley That's fucked up. Beyond fucked up.
Why does the GOP hate its citizens? I don't understand
@Wipqozn AFAICT the GOP base at this point are (a) people who would rather burn the country to the ground than see The Wrong Sort Of People derive any sort of benefit from it, even if they hurt themselves in the process (i.e. sparrow-curtain-rod.txt)
@Avery Shia loves getting people Labeouffed up.
17:18
and/or (b) people who are 100% convinced that they won't be affected, because they are good and right and pure (i.e. leopard-party.txt)
@Wipqozn and it's been like this for long enough that the people getting elected actually believe this rather than just pandering to their base

Q: Can't download workshop game from steam

Qualtar DemixI was trying to download a game from Steam. But every-time I get this: This item has been added to your Subscriptions. Some games will require you to relaunch them before the item will be downloaded. What do I do after this?

17:34
@Dragonrage sent you some stuff on discord
@Wipqozn Money
@Fluttershy How high is the water compared to the street behind the wall?
I was wondering that too. Like how are people comfortable parking their cars next to that nightmare?
"Oh there's a life threatening flood across the street? No time, I need to get back to work at the coca cola factory."
Immortal Redneck. hrm
@fredley What the fuck
17:41
TIL Montana has about twice as many microbreweries per capita as Nova Scotia, assuming this list is complete.
Immortal Redneck is a weird game. It has Twitch integration and chat can vote on which upgrades you get
@GodEmperorDune thank you.
@Dragonrage np
@Sterno seems like a weird game ... the title is off putting too. Why is it set in Egypt?
mummy redneck?
well C# is being dumb again
17:50
@HazyKingdom it's probably bad rats in disguise
Because let's be honest here. Bad Rats is the only game @Sterno plays.
@BlueBarren hm, what's wrong
@Dragonrage That is some sound reasoning.
@Avery it seems like my single "|" is being ignored and the other evaluation is being checked
heh
use rust
@Avery what like the game on steam?
heh
17:52
@BlueBarren What's the line of code?
@murgatroid99 return user.EmailAddress == null | (Regex.IsMatch(user.EmailAddress, Regex.Escape(basicExpected) + @"\d?" + "@address.com"));
@BlueBarren no the unbuggable language
@BlueBarren are you sure you meant | and not ||?
@Avery so english?
@ToxicFrog yes
17:54
Oh, I see, C# describes | as bitwise or but defines it on bools too.
Weeeeeird.
But null isn't a bool either
And it doesn't short-circuit, unlike ||
@murgatroid99 no, but (user.EmailAddress == null) is
And I'm 90% sure that == binds more tightly than | or ||
Are you sure the operators have that precedence?
when in doubt throw some brackets on stuff
17:55
(and if it didn't I'd expect that to be a compile-time type error)
but what I'm doing is returning a true or false
msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/6a71f45d.aspx -- yeah, == has higher precedence than | which outranks ||
so if email is null return and if it's not does email equal this?
@BlueBarren what do you mean by "it's being ignored and the other evaluation is being checked"?
@BlueBarren Why are you using a single pipe instead of a double pipe?
17:56
@murgatroid99 double is if you want to check both
@BlueBarren right, but you're using |, which doesn't short-circuit, so both arms will be evaluated regardless
You have it backwards. || short circuits. | does not.
@ToxicFrog No?
> x | y
except that if x is true, y is not evaluated because the OR operation is true regardless of the value of y
yes. That's what "short circuit" means
I'm not following
x || y is logically equivalent to x | y, except that x || y short circuits
17:58
I've never heard the term "short circuit" before
"Short circuit" is just shorthand for "if x is true, y is not evaluated because the OR operation is true regardless of the value of y"
@BlueBarren if you evaluate x || y and x is true, y is never evaluated (because it knows that won't change the overall result). If you evaluate x | y, both x and y are evaluated regardless.
"short circuit" is the common term for it in C/++ and most other languages I've used, but maybe C# uses different terminology.
@ToxicFrog no no no that is completely wrong
from what I've been taught
from what I know
don't tell me I've been wrong this entire time
@BlueBarren You literally just linked to the documentation for || that says what we've been saying
@BlueBarren you've been taught wrong; I'm quoting MSDN @here
"x | y – logical or bitwise OR. Use with integer types and enum types is generally allowed."
"x || y – logical OR. If the first operand is true, then C# does not evaluate the second operand."
18:00
@murgatroid99 I may or may not be dyslexic
well I'm not getting a null exception but now I'm question my results
yeah something else is wrong
what did I do...
but thanks guys
I've been led astray this entire time
the education system has failed me
(note that & and && do the same thing -- x & y evaluates both, x && y skips y if x was false)
What case would you use x | y over x || y?
Or x & y over x && y?
@Dragonrage well, those are bitwise as well as boolean operators
@Dragonrage I would assume if you have three choices?
like if your user is a mom or a dad they can enter
@Dragonrage In the case of boolean operations, you might use them if your program is very performance-bound and you are unlikely to often get correct branch prediction
18:04
but if they're a child they can't
Using them as boolean operators, the only use I can think of is if the terms of the expression have side effects (iiiiick) and you want all of them evaluated regardless.
@BlueBarren that works with the short-circuiting versions just fine, though.
@ToxicFrog I guess it would
crap
I have no good examples
E.g. x || y || z will stop at the first true, and x && y && z will stop at the first false; if you're mixing them you need to be careful about precedence (use lots of parens!) but as long as you get that right it'll do the right thing.
The reason short-circuiting is valuable is because it improves performance (and lets the program skip over code with failed preconditions) without having any effect on the final result of the expression.
The way compilers do short circuiting (as far as I know) is by generating a branch that only evaluates the second if the first has a certain value. In some cases, a branch may take slightly more time than just evaluating both expressions.
But if you're using it for that reason, it's almost definitely a premature optimization
@murgatroid99 if that kind of microoptimization matters, though, you're probably either not working in C# or you're trusting the runtime optimizer to handle it (does C# have a runtime optimizer like java?)
18:07
Hmm. I don't think I've ever used single pipe or ampersand for anything but bit-wise functions. I don't think i was ever taught they could be used for anything besides bit-wise functions
@ToxicFrog I have no idea. At this point I'm mainly thinking about C, because I know that better
@Dragonrage this is the first I'm hearing about it, but I also have barely used C#
I mean, you can use | as a boolean operator in C because C doesn't distinguish between bools and ints, but & is inviting trouble
I know I've used them before I just forget what
@Dragonrage In C, at least, true and false are usually just 1 and 0, so bitwise functions are equivalent to boolean expressions
I've used c# quite a bit, but came from c++.
@murgatroid99 that makes sense.
18:09

Q: how do you use /title

bananaHow do you use /title? I used it like this "/title @a title {text:"you're fighting the castle",bold:true,italic:true,color:red}" and it gave me this error "[10:51:17] Invalid json: malformed JSON at line 1 column 3" Im trying to make something and I've been stuck for a while so if anyone knows pl...

@murgatroid99 the beartrap there is that false is 0 and nonzero is true, so you can end up in a situation where x && y is true but x & y is false, because x and y have different bits set
I think most of the time I've used bit-wise stuff was when I was dealing with enums
@ToxicFrog Hence "usually". true is usually defined as 1, so as long as you only use boolean constants for boolean values, the bitwise operations will work fine
*chance.
@Dragonrage for me it's usually when writing drivers, or interacting with ancient APIs that packed all their options into a flag value rather than passing a struct or something.
It’s Thursday. How many people have lost their healthcare today?
18:14
@fredley hue
Has the vote happened yet?
Hold onto your butts
Cases upon cases of beer just rolled into the Capitol on a cart covered in a sheet. Spotted Bud Light peeking out from the sheet
@ToxicFrog Yeah, it passed the House
I mean, unless some GOP member has a soul all of a sudden
18:19
But they're past the mark now
@TimStone does that mean it's effectively done, or does it go to the Senate next?
@TimStone alright, time to give all of them shit when they go to town halls next week
@ToxicFrog senate next but that can take months

God fucking dammit pelosi
> They know it won't pass, but they can go back to their constituents and say "We got it repealed, but the senate and those liberals screwed you over"
18:23
I sure hope it won't pass.
god dammit
This whole debacle also proves that Freedom Caucus is the only GOP group that does not cave
If you get those assholes on board, moderates will follow
Yeah, I noted in that article that they got the votes for this one by catering to the "not far enough" faction rather than the "too far" faction
Which is, well, completely unsurprising in every way
But still
WELL WE'LL GET TO SEE IF MY EMPLOYER HEALTHCARE CHANGES PRETTY SOON BECAUSE GUESS WHAT THATS A THING
217-213
20 R nays 1 R not vote
@Unionhawk That was the final count? Damn, that's close
Wait, that's only 430 votes. Who else didn't vote?
18:28
rip usa
@MBraedley idk
One is probably Speaker Ryan, so if the other 4 voted, it still would have passed.
Although there are seats that are still empty, so that's probably it.

Ugh goddammit @housedemocrats
House Democrats visibly joyful after AHCA passes. Singing "hey hey hey goodbye" at GOP colleagues, implying they'll lose seats for this
18:31
The United States House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the United States Congress which, along with the Senate, composes the legislature of the United States. The composition and powers of the House are established by Article One of the United States Constitution. The House is composed of representatives who sit in congressional districts which are allocated to each of the 50 states on a basis of population as measured by the U.S. Census, with each district entitled one representative. Since its inception in 1789, all representatives are elected popularly. The total number of voting...

Can we just have the Revolutionary War and start all over again?
We can just have a fake one, @fredley.
@Yuuki just surrender your country to Canada
18:33
@BlueBarren No, that's the War of 1812.
and be prepared to like maple syrup
@Yuuki we don't talk about the war of 1812
What is this, the War of 1812 Club?
@Yuuki yes
wanna join?
Like, you're not incorrect that this will be a bloodbath in 18, but come on guys

Our new hire's been killing it https://t.co/I52yfP0mOA
Yes
I wish I could see that media
18:37
@BlueBarren I feel your pain
@MBraedley let's cry together
@Unionhawk who is hana?
because it looks like D.Va
It is, real name Hana Song
18:38
i see
@Arbys So thaaaats where she's been instead of on the payload 😉✌🏼
@Unionhawk Their new Twitter hire has definitely been killing it.
wow now I really wish I could see that image...
also i am not sure if that is a real person creepily cropped or a mannequin
@GodEmperorDune Part of me wants to say mannequin.
The fingers look weird.
@Yuuki it's screaming uncanny valley to me
18:40
why is Arby's randomly putting D.va on their stuff?
@BlueBarren twitter
also memes
but I don't understand this from a marketing standpoint
wouldn't it be better do something more mainstream?
@BlueBarren We're talking about it right now.
Therefore, the marketing is working.
cc: @MetaEd
marketing teams have scienced that by making memes with their official twitter accounts, millennials are more likely to buy their products, or something like that
18:41
@BlueBarren Also, are you saying Overwatch is not mainstream?
@Yuuki yes?
@Yuuki they put all those "trump mains hanzo" posters and it didn't sway the election
Arby's sponsors esports what do you want
@BlueBarren I think Overwatch has like 30 mil units sold man.
@Unionhawk doritos and mtndew
18:42
@Unionhawk After NA's performance at MSI, I'm not surprised.
Like, they're a presenting sponsor for EL
It's ya boi, @Unionhawk
Yeah, they won but holy f--k did TSM poop the bed on that Bo5 against GAM.
@TimStone I take it all back Rob you're not useless
I think one comment put it in perspective. "America losing in the jungle against Vietnam. As is tradition."

@Yuuki isn't Bo5 that yotuber that lost custody of his kids for the "pranks"
@GodEmperorDune I think that's Do5 or whatever.
@Yuuki so that reddit post went no where
Bo5 stands for "best of five".
@TimStone this gives the Senate a huge opportunity to look like professionals tbh
18:45
@Unionhawk if the dems can't use this vote to flip the house in 2018, i dunno what's left

Q: How much storage does Nier take on ps3?

captaincj2005So I'm thinking about buying Nier for my ps3. How much storage does it take up?

Oh wait it turns out I can legally give to campaigns which is good because I totally ignored that for the Presidential election
Contribution sites really need to properly clarify the "I am not a federal contractor" restriction
@TimStone is the new Soros
@GodEmperorDune if anyone can fuck this up it's the Dems lol
@Unionhawk sadly yes
gerrymandering is gerrymandering, but letting people run unopposed? just stupid
18:48
There's an actblue going around to flip CA-49 which was close and also he cast the last vote needed for victory
@GodEmperorDune I wish I had that kind of cash
@Unionhawk which rep is that?
Idk
But the vote last time was within a couple thousand
@Unionhawk argh, fucking darrell issa

I'm going to work to primary Davidson (OH-8) since we're pretty deep red but he's an artifact of the tea party
@Fluttershy So maybe a metre right now?
And as such literally Paul Ryan would be better
user15026
is so lost right now
Current obvious targets seem to be districts Clinton and GOP reps won
@Ash presents a compass
18:52
@Ash they did the thing
user15026
@Unionhawk who did what thing
@Ash House GOP passed the AHCA. Barely
And since we live on the dumbest possible timeline they brought in cases to celebrate
@Ash the fuck yall healthcare bill
Chances of it making it through the senate (at least right now) are very low.
18:53
@MBraedley the senate approved DeVos with 50 votes
@MBraedley god I hope so
i wonder if president warren will fix all of this in 2020
1 min ago, by Unionhawk
@MBraedley god I hope so
@GodEmperorDune obama should run on 2020
michelle obama.
@Avery doubtful
18:56
Like actually, I'd be down with voting for Warren and not just in a "well Bernie didn't win so fiiiiiine" sense
@GodEmperorDune There are 8 republican senators up for re-election in 2018. They'll cave to their constituents.
Warren has the charisma that Hillary didn't
.@Reince exiting gop cloakroom tells me: "The president stepped up and helped punt the ball into the end zone."
but wall street will be running scared and pour money into whoever opposes her
18:57
THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW SPORTS WHAT THE HELL
@TimStone touchdown
@GodEmperorDune yes and then we'll end up with some bullshit candidate like Jeb Bush Pretending To Be A Democrat
@TimStone and here i thought the messed up sports refrances in veep came out of nowhere
America just got a little darker by that comment.
@TimStone Um, punting the ball into the end zone is a bad thing. It gives your opponent an extra 20 yards (or more). Which might actually be an apt comparison.
Aka touchback.
18:58
@MBraedley 25 now iirc
In pro
@Unionhawk but along those lines, she'll probably spend political capital on financial system reform instead of health insurance stuff
It's way more punishing now
@Unionhawk I was thinking that, but I knew it was at least 20
@GodEmperorDune I mean
