@GodEmperorDune Wait, I thought the Russians put Trump in power?

@Yuuki true but the revolutionary communist party is very anti trump because of trump's authoritarian tendencies

@Wipqozn urmom doesn't increment. she's stuck on 0. She just says oh oh oh over and over and never moves up to one.

cc @Wipqozn on that sick burn

@Sterno DAYUUUUUUMMMMMMM
that is the sickest burn i've heard in a long time

@Sterno Daaaaaaaaaaaamn
@GodEmperorDune Yeah it's pretty legit

I think either my psu or mobo is dying

10:06 PM
@Sterno I WOKE UP DUE TO A FIRE ALARM
STERNO IS ON FIREEEEEE

@arda His best work since WarGames.
On second thought, most people here probably haven't seen that movie.
Well, maybe WarGames, but I'm quoting a different movie.

That was a nice episode
(just like your mom)

@Wipqozn weak

@GodEmperorDune just like urmom

Crap. I thought I'd finally found a romance series that involved gamers or video game creators that wasn't stupid but now they're talking about their spacefaring MMO that has a pod racing expansion pack, an FPS expansion pack, and they're about to release some sort of "special ops" expansion pack and I just...you can tell this person doesn't play games

@Ash NOW THIS IS POD RACING.

@Ash clearly you need to write your own

@Ash Alternatively, perhaps the only game that this person has played is Star Citizen.
cc @TimStone on that burn?

user15026
@GodEmperorDune it's very tempting

@Yuuki OH SNAP

10:22 PM
@Ash Which series?

@Yuuki or no man's sky

user15026
@Frank Annabeth Albert's #gaymers series. First two were decent (although they tend to do that thing that LGBT romances do where the main conflict is that someone hasn't come out yet)

@Ash Okay, haven't heard of that one.

user15026
Third one is kinda frustrating me because it's trying to shove references to game development in and the author just has no idea

user15026
@Frank they're indie ebooks so that might be why

10:24 PM
Or they talk exclusively to Star Citizen devs.

Really tempted to play DKC2. but I'm also lazy.
I blame @Yuuki

@Ash Don't read Armada.

user15026
@Wipqozn but that game is awesome

@Ash oh man, we're going to miss crunch because the lead designer forgot to wharrgarbl the pixels!

@Ash I know, but lazy.
I'd need to plugin my wii and everything

10:24 PM
It's bad. It sorta gets the game references, but it shovels the drek of the Last Starfighter.

user15026
@Frank I haven't yet, and I don't really plan to, because I haven't heard much good about it

Pretty sure I neve rtransferred my everything over to the WiiU at least

user15026
@Wipqozn the horrors

@Wipqozn Donkey Kong Country 2?

user15026
@GodEmperorDune yep that's what it sounds like

10:25 PM
@Ash I might even need batteries for my wiimote
@Yuuki Yes

@Ash I figured it'd be decent, since Ready Player One was good, but sadly, it was not.

I could also hook up my snes but that's also work
plus I'm sure the battery that saves data has died on that cart by now

@Ash there is this scene black mirror where the screen says "do you want to continue", the actor makes a confirmation gesture, then the "No" button gets shaded and the action goes through

user15026
@Frank Yeah, I kinda felt like he was trying to basically do RPO in another setting almost

it is infuriating

user15026
10:27 PM
@GodEmperorDune that would make me crazy

user15026
All I want is a romance novel involving gamers where you can tell the author has played more than like wii sports or something

it's like they get so much stuff right that i shouldn't be bothered by it
and yet it sticks out so much

@Ash Wii Sports and Wii Fit? You ask too much.

@Ash REAMDE is decent as far as gamer research but it's not really romance by any stretch
i mean it gets unrealistic at points

@GodEmperorDune REAMME, on the other hand, sounds like it would be a very racy novel.

10:29 PM
like there is an MMO/incremental with no level cap and the highest guy has all these ultra powerful spells that no one else can even use but why would that even get dev/qa resources put on it if no one is going ot see it?
i suppose these are minor quibbles

Ready Player One has some minor romance elements and decent gamer knowledge. Some people say that it's low quality literature, though.

@murgatroid99 It is, but that doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable

@SaintWacko Oh, absolutely. When I first found it, I read it all in one sitting, and enjoyed the whole thing. But I see enough criticism that I think it's worth adding that warning

It's good for a single read, at least.
I wouldn't really recommend Armada to anyone, though.

@GodEmperorDune Random annoyance I have about game-centered fiction is that the main characters are inevitably DPS.
This is beyond frustrating.

10:35 PM
@Frank I actually liked Armada. The plot is pretty ridiculous, but it's still a fun read

Sure, Log Horizon had a main character who mostly used CC and debuffs, but Log Horizon is more about weirdo economics and politics than anything.

@murgatroid99 I didn't think so. He was going for a major twist, and the whole thing just fell flat.

@Yuuki i don't think this game had character classes
it was more like EVE where you just accumulate skills and spells and loot

Q: Xbox Win10 App not finding Xbox One

Evan FrischI recently got an Xbox One and for a while I have been using the Xbox app on my Windows 10 PC to stream the console to my PC to play. Since yesterday (December 13th), the Xbox App has been unable to connect to my Xbox One. I tried removing the device and readding it, but the App does not find my ...

@GodEmperorDune Sure, but the main character gamer archetype is always "guy who does lots of damage".

10:37 PM
and there was a pyramid scheme aspect to it with gold farming

I'd like to see a gamer character who doesn't revolve around killing things fast.

like gold farming was literally mining in the virtual ground for minerals
that you could exchange for real money

Runescape?

the main character was founder of the company, so his character had more time to accumulate skills and minions to mine for him

10:39 PM
Retro game fans here might like that

and he got a percentage of the pyramid below him and so on

@murgatroid99 I believe they're talking about RPO's virtual world.

There's been a spate of "stuck in VR video games" anime/manga recently and the other annoying thing is that the main characters are always described as choosing terrible suboptimal skills.
Which inevitably means crafting.

@Yuuki Overlord is one of the latest.
And while the anime is...not so good, the light novel is interesting enough for me.

And they somehow make those terrible suboptimal skills somehow amazing because they luckily picked just the right combination.

10:40 PM
the last thing i can remember where crafting was a primary thing was second life

@Frank Oh, I assumed he was still talking about REAMDE, which I haven't read

@Yuuki so they stumbled onto amazing synergy
@murgatroid99 i was

@GodEmperorDune I can't remember the last MMORPG I played where you had to sacrifice other things to be able to craft.

@murgatroid99 Not familiar with that acronym.

Crafting has always been a thing you can do in addition to normal adventuring as opposed to something you do instead of normal adventuring.

10:41 PM
@Frank its a book
Reamde is a technothriller novel by Neal Stephenson, published in 2011. The story, set in the present day, centers on the plight of a hostage and the ensuing efforts of family and new acquaintances, many of them associated with a fictional MMORPG, to rescue her as her various captors drag her about the globe. Topics covered range from online activities including gold farming and social networking to the criminal methods of the Russian mafia and Islamic terrorists. == Plot summaryEdit == Reamde begins by introducing two members of the Forthrast family who reconnect at an annual family reun...

@Yuuki Runescape

@murgatroid99 Last I played, the skill caps were such that you could easily max your fighting skills and then go level up crafting.

I made a horrible mistake: I checked tumblr without watching the newest episode of steven universe :(

@Yuuki Well, yeah. But they recently added a skill where you literally sacrifice things to be able to craft other things

10:43 PM
@murgatroid99 like skills as mats?

The existence of @murgatroid99 reminds me of something

@GodEmperorDune Other way around. You disassemble just about any item, just so that you can level up the skill, which eventually lets you craft other things

I was driving today with the google maps "tell me the directions", and I took a wrong turn, and I swear Google got upset with me
I swear she got louder and upset with the directions to get me back en route

@murgatroid99 like wow disenchanting or it just gives skillpoints and not mats too?

I got confused since she told me to get on Cogswell street off the rotary, but there were too cogswell streets.

10:45 PM
@murgatroid99 That's different from not being able to swing a sword because you learned blacksmithing instead.

ACtually there are three cogswell streets, all next to each other

@Wipqozn I can imagine a feature where it increases the volume if it seems like you're not listening, to make sure you can hear the directions properly

wow @Wipqozn, even AI thinks you're terrible

@murgatroid99 that's basically what happened. When it first gave me the directions my mother was on the phone via my bluetooth stuff.
It's funnier to say it was angry at me though
I NEED THEM LIKES

FFXIV has something similar where crafting is done by crafting classes, which are distinct from adventuring classes, but you can easily level multiple classes on one character and switch them as easily as changing weapons.

10:46 PM
@GodEmperorDune Basically, disassembling just about anything gives you Exp in that skill, and disassembling certain things also gives valuable materials that you eventually craft with

@Unionhawk oops, I missed this message. Thanks for trying, I'll probably leave the android studio download open overnight.

@GodEmperorDune The annoying thing is that these OP combinations that they find are things that I feel like any gamer that I know would mess with.
And so shouldn't be all that secret in the first place.

Like there's one recently where magic is considered a poor skill since cast times are long and you are really weak in close quarters. But lo and behold, main character also uses the unarmed combat skill and suddenly all of magic's downsides are magically solved.

@Yuuki yeah, when gamers want to spade something they SPADE it
what was that game where they found a new section ten years after the game was released?

10:53 PM
I feel like those kinds of books are written in a world where players generally don't share knowledge about game mechanics, and maybe also where the mechanics are basically secret without personal experimentation

Oh and he learned some charisma skill which has the side effect of making his cast/chant times faster too!

@GodEmperorDune Hasn't that happened in real games occasionally?

@murgatroid99 yeah it was a real thing

@murgatroid99 If players don't share knowledge about game mechanics, then how does it get around to be common knowledge that magic is a poor skill in the first place?

but i am failing on remember what game it was
it was posted in here when it happened
shadow of the colossus maybe?
on a shorter timescale, i know there was a puzzle in kingdom of loathing that took more than a year to solve, even with group collaboration

10:58 PM
@GodEmperorDune The islands one?

@Yuuki ed's cartouche
basically if you wore Ed's crown, a code would show up after combat in one zone a day
the zone changed randomly

user15026
@GodEmperorDune oh wow.

> This step required construction of a custom cryptanalysis program employing simulated annealing.
That is perhaps the best part.

...huh.
A recruiter from...Dallas wants to add me to their LinkedIn network.

Don't do it, Dallas is the worst. I'm totally not biased being from Houston.

11:05 PM
From a company called Hiring Source.

@Ash i was mistaken, it took 7 months to decipher, not a year
march 2015 to october 2015

@GodEmperorDune I think the Islands one might have taken more than a year.

@Yuuki i wouldn't be surprised

And my old boss viewed my profile a few days ago.

Q: How do you lower durability of an item?

ToxicatedI'm trying to make a jetpack with a battery, the more you use it, the more the battery depletes. So far, I have the ''battery'' part working and the jetpack itself, but I cannot figure out how to lower the durability of an item every time you use the jetpack.

11:08 PM
Bammgarwhl

Wlgharrba?

user15026
@GodEmperorDune still that is pretty awesome

@Wipqozn Yayyyyy!

@Ash the best part of it is that solving it unlocked extra functionality for everyone who had the IOTM
which is cool on the dev's part, IMO

user15026
@GodEmperorDune that is very cool.
