@murgatroid99 can you self-pardon?
@murgatroid99 Ah yes, the 'Berlusconi'
@GodEmperorDune According to the first website I found: "Self-pardon is not restricted by law, and under interpretation by the Supreme Court, a president could have the right to pardon himself not only for crimes he has committed, but also for crimes with which he has not yet been charged."
@GodEmperorDune Part of me wants the answer to this question to be "no" but he tries it anyway
@murgatroid99 God dammit
@murgatroid99 ...
@murgatroid99 wait you can pardon yourself for things that haven't happened yet?
16:01
@GodEmperorDune I think it's more "things that have happened, but that you haven't been indicted for yet"
Yes
Like, say
@murgatroid99 no way. There's just no way.
@murgatroid99 goddamn
Just how far does that go? Can you literally murder someone and immediately pardon yourself?
I'm just not aware of how absolute the pardon is.
I think he can still be impeached for crimes he commits while he's president
16:02
Is it any crime?
And if that goes through, he loses the power of pardon
@StrixVaria sexual assault?
@fredley A much more useful example.
@StrixVaria and sadly relevant
16:03
@Wipqozn That's the word I wanted but my brain isn't fully functional this morning.
@StrixVaria i mean if you are pardoning yourself you are essentially confirming for everyone that you did whatever thing thing was
so i would assume your approval rating would tank
but who knows if that would happen anymore
@GodEmperorDune Because if this election shows us anything, it's that Trump cares if people think he's done terrible things
@murgatroid99 breitbart and 4chan would probably cheer him for it
@murgatroid99 he did deny doing things that he was caught on tape doing
"i never mocked a disabled reporter by waving my hands around like this" (does it again)
Good luck press freedom
@GodEmperorDune He could always spin it: "The rigged courts want to prosecute me for [insert crime] I never committed, so I'm pardoning myself"
16:06
apparently no one listens to the paper anymore
@GodEmperorDune Well, to be fair, you're supposed to read it.
@Yuuki hue
> Apparently ~24k people in Ohio wrote in Harambe
Dammit guys
(trump won 51 so it doesn't actually matter)
@Unionhawk where did you get this data?
Iunno
16:11
it seems twitter may have made up some of these harambe numbers
Probably
The world is such a scary place right now
I honestly am starting to fear that we might see a third world war in our lifetime
Nationalism seems to be on a rise, which can't be a good thing
ugh i just don't know
i just hope that everything is not fuct beyond repair after 4 (or 8, shudder) years
at least my daughter is young enough that she will never remember the campaign
Assuming the Earth is still around. Climate change is only getting worse, and god knows the USA isn't going to do anything to stop it now.
Clinton speech any minute
16:20
@Wipqozn joke's on trump, the paris climate accord can't be removed for 4 or 5 years after it goes into effect
@fredley oh good
and it went into effect last week specifically because people were scared of trump
@Wipqozn What if he ignores it?
i mean trump's victory speech was unlike every single speech he gave during the campaign
he was approaching nice (though more smug IMO, but that might be bias)

@GodEmperorDune but but but...
this one was posted by me
At least at work
@GodEmperorDune What are the consequences if Trump doesn't follow through?
I got 2 nights off work, so I can post all the funny election pictures I find
@Wipqozn Nationalism isn't bad, per say. It's when it becomes jingoism that it's time to get worried.
16:25
@Yuuki that i don't know
@fredley oh you repleid to the wrong person
did clinton get lost? Maybe she's too busy being horrified
oh maybe Trump had her arrested
He did say he was going to do that
the optimist in me says that even though climate change is approaching the "we're fuct" point, at least the effects are becoming more pronounced and just maybe Trump's base will realize that it is a problem we have to solve
and hopefully its not too late at that point
@Yuuki Do not confuse nationalism with patriotism. Nationalism in and of itself has very little going for it, especially in a global community.
my more immediate concern is the "lol racism/sexisim/islamophobia" contingent that now feels vindicated and that they can do what they want "without political correctness"
16:28
@MBraedley @KevinvanderVelden Well, fair enough.
@GodEmperorDune yeah I'm kind of worried that @Fluttershy hasn't popped into chat
I seriously hope he's okay
He didn't live in a very LBGT friendly plce to begin with
@Wipqozn yeah i forgot about the homophobia
@Wipqozn So I did
i heard somewhere that they announced they were going to roll back LGBT rights first thing but haven't seen proof
@fredley to be fair you could claim you thought I replied to a different message
16:31
If I was Clinton I'd legit be looking at leaving the country. I mean the amount of rhetoric he threw at her, and the legitimacy lended to his claims by his election means it's probably not that safe for her atm
@Wipqozn IIRC he had to go to work
@fredley she has secret service protection for life because of Bill, i think
@GodEmperorDune Handy
The same secret service that's coordinated by the sitting pres?
I doubt the pres does much coordinating of that
Maybe the secret service will have a secret service secret fight and clintons secret service will win and then @Sterno will be the new president
16:33
@Wipqozn The secretest service
@fredley if obama was coordinating the secret service, i doubt they would've had their shenanigans these past 8 years
oh here we go
was just about to make a joke about maybe she's already left the country, and this 'speech' is just a distractyion
I was thinking the same thing as @fredley that she should serioualy consider leaving the country
@Wipqozn some cold war Russian guy says were closer to it now than we were then
I kind of hope she comes out soon. I don't have too long.
@Wipqozn jill stein 2020
16:37
i take solace in what @Sterno said earlier. The other side flipped out when Obama won and it wasn't nearly as bad as their predictions
@GnomeSlice jill stein's policies are shit and she was a terrible candidate
eh she's not that bad
but yeah that party isn't great
i mean i love the green party's ideals, but when they go to translate that into policy they have no way of actually accomplishing what they want
user15026
@Wipqozn I can confirm he's okay, he's at work right now
16:39
@Ash \o/
@GodEmperorDune yeah but those folks were also shouting "no free handouts" and "he wasn't born in this country!"
@GodEmperorDune The aftermath of the Brexit vote makes me concerned
@GodEmperorDune she at least seems to understand international relations better than a lot of other candidates
Also, more than a few students here are cancelling their plans to intern/exchange in the US
Which is somewhat surprising
16:40
I'm just waiting for Lavos to bust out of the ground and spew death spikes across the sky.
@PrivatePansy Not surprising
oh finally here she comes
I will get to see some of it at least
The school actually has a program that tries to place students in Silicon Valley startups in the US to do a work-study program. That specifically is taking a big hit.
She looks so sad
And probably terrified
@GnomeSlice she was better than trump and johnson on that, for sure
@Wipqozn got a link? :o
16:43
@KevinvanderVelden cbc.ca/news/…
@GodEmperorDune Well and the policies that they came up with were just crazy.
@MBraedley that too
Third parties seem to be under this notion that they have to have the most radical plans to be able to stand out from the major parties.
Which, in a way, is true but also doesn't make them attractive candidates.
@Yuuki Not when the major party candidate this year has the most radical plans
Inasmuch as they can actually be called plans
Well, the Green Party did call for immediately halting operation of all coal plants and coal mines, IIRC.
16:53
Does anyone have a radical plan that involves us going to the skate park to learn how to do some killer half pipe moves?
Hi guys, I'm in to see if the world has ended yet.
@Yuuki Trump wants to tear up every one of Obama's executive order immediately
@Ellesedil World doesn't end until Jan 20th
@GodEmperorDune But the other side are lunatics
@PrivatePansy The major problem with allowing the president such broad powers to begin with :/
16:56
@fredley not all of them
Not that I envy the position Obama was in either, just the system should be less dysfunctional
1 hour ago, by Yuuki
@TimStone Yay, congressional obstructionism!
Now I'm curious what things Obama might do before he leaves office.
@TimStone congress you do their job
There's been curious talk if he'd consider a pardon for Snowden before he leaves.
16:57
@TimStone congress should do their job
@MadMAxJr He actually plans to stay in DC, which apparently is quite rare for retired presidents
@MadMAxJr I'm not sure if a pardon for Snowden would keep him safe from a Trump presidency. Although I have no clue about Snowden's standing with Trump's base.
@MadMAxJr maybe he'll pardon Clinton for the emails
@Yuuki It depends on whether or not you believe Snowden is now a Russian shill, I guess
16:58
@Yuuki once he starts calling him "crooked Snowden" we'll know what's up
Chelsea Manning should be pardoned though, there's nothing good coming from that :/
@GodEmperorDune It's hard to pardon someone who has not actually committed a crime
@PrivatePansy you can pardon for anything, apparently
Oh, right, turkeys
Kaz
Kaz
@PrivatePansy I'm pretty sure the FBI decision was "Decline to prosecute" rather than "Not Guilty"
17:00
America is weird
@PrivatePansy Well, all turkeys are guilty of the crime of potentially usurping the bald eagle as national bird.
It's I think basically saying "She can't be punished for doing this thing" and then she has to say "I did this thing", the thing doesn't actually have to be illegal
@Kaz That's the actual point. Decline to prosecute means there's nothing to pardon.
Kaz
Kaz
@Ellesedil It means they didn't want to prosecute a presidential candidate in the middle of an election.
I kinda want HRC to go full trump and yell "RIGGED" and "Crooked Trump", tbh.
Kaz
Kaz
17:02
My interpretation was: "Look, Hillary did this stuff. If she were anyone else, it would easily get you fired, and possibly prosecuted. Instead, since that would interfere with the democratic process, we're going to decline to prosecute, but also quite publicly talk about all the evidence and let the american people decide if they want to still elect her"
@Kaz Quite sure that's not how that works
@Kaz That's not really it at all.
Kaz
Kaz
@Ellesedil I'm open to other interpretations.
They did not have enough evidence for a case - specifically, to pass the criteria of criminal intent instead of merely being "extremely careless", in the words of the FBI
I still don't understand just what it was she did wrong
Kaz
Kaz
17:05
@PrivatePansy So she did the things, but it doesn't matter because she didn't realise she was breaking the law?
when you come on the Bridge for the first time in months and then you forget why
lol
I actually find the personal email server to be a massive distraction. Her two predecessors actually made worse decisions by using email accounts and servers that they didn't even control or have direct access to. And even if she had decided to use the State department's email system for unclassified emails, there still would have been the same emails in that system.
I thought everything came back that she wasn't breaking the law?
@Texenox hey mate
@arda Oh, hi
Kaz
Kaz
17:06
@SaintWacko Imagine you work for the NSA. And now imagine you sent all your confidential, top secret work emails to your Gmail account. Replace NSA with Secretary of State and Gmail with Server in your basement and that's basically it.
@Kaz if that was the case why did they reopen it right before the election only to go "Oh right, the conclusion last time was valid, we just wasted a bunch of money again"
@Kaz You're describing Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, not Hillary Clinton.
@Kaz Didn't I see that the FBI found that she didn't have any confidential emails on her private server?
Is it alright if I ask who here is actually okay with the fact that Trump has won?
Kaz
Kaz
@KevinvanderVelden That, I don't have a good theory for (And I am incredibly curious to find out)
17:07
@KevinvanderVelden Because Comey decided he wanted to meddle in the election
@Kaz Oh that's very simple: The guy who reopened it wanted the republicans to win
1
Q: How to turn a salty water into normal, drinkable water?

Jacobus MostertSo i made a 'maple bottle' in Unturned, so that I have something to drink when I'm traveling. I filled my bottle at the ocean and found that it says that the water is salty. It gives you +10 sickness/ radiation when you drink it. Is there a way to purify the salty water, so that it just restores...

@Kaz From memory, the use of the server itself, while against guidelines, was not illegal. The part that was actually against the law was that they may have been confidential information passing through the server
@Ellesedil It wasn't even banned. The whole email thing was artfully constructed distraction.
Kaz
Kaz
@KevinvanderVelden This would be the same guy who declined to prosecute Clinton the first time around?
17:09
@fredley I 100% agree. I'm not even really in love with Clinton.
@Kaz that I'm unsure of
@fredley as are most of the fake Clinton conspiracies
@GodEmperorDune Yup
Regardless: You can't prosecute for things that aren't illegal
Which is quite a good reason to not prosecute
Kaz
Kaz
IMO, if both candidates have accused you of being bought-off by the other side, you're probably neutral.
17:10
Basically the extreme right shouts for long enough and moderates assume that "where there's smoke there's fire" instead of a fog machine
I just don't get it. The US has elected moderates for so long
@GodEmperorDune Like dubya?
@Kaz Trump sort of does accuse everything of being rigged.
@fredley he was fairly moderate IMO
Cheney wasn't
Or the neocons he appointed
Raegan?
@fredley raised taxes and granted amnesty to immigrants
17:14
@GodEmperorDune Boy, is that incredibly ironic now.
@Yuuki he wouldn't survive a republican primary today
@GodEmperorDune And yet, every Republican refers to him as a model politician. I really don't understand today's politics.
I guess with the Internet and unprecedented access to knowledge, there's also unprecedented opportunity to make up stuff, shout it as loudly as possible, and have people buy into it.
@GodEmperorDune Not as an incumbent, no. But as a challenger with no administrative history, I think he could win it.
> His [1980] campaign stressed some of his fundamental principles: lower taxes to stimulate the economy, less government interference in people's lives, states' rights, and a strong national defense.
Assuming that he doesn't open his mouth about immigration, he could conceivably win a modern primary. Although he wouldn't win one after doing what he did while actually in office.
Oh wait, he was a governor, wasn't he?
@Yuuki he was governor of California first
Hmm... looking through a short summary of his policies as governor, I think he could win a modern Republican presidential primary.
17:26
Obama doing a class act
@fredley link?
@fredley Hwa?
Anyone who ever said "anyone but Bush" is kicking themself so hard right now
@Sterno I would've taken Jeb over this
Too bad he's so low energy
@Sterno really though
17:29
How soon until they repeal Obamacare?
Probably before February arrives.
I expect it to be the first order of business in the new Congress.
unless the insurance company lobbyists put their foot down, of course
@Yuuki He's finished now
@fredley Oh, I thought you mentioned that he did something just now.
@Yuuki Yeah he did
He just gave a speech
17:33
@fredley in a meeting. Tldr?
> “It is no secret that the president-elect and I have some pretty significant differences. But remember that eight years ago, President Bush and I had some pretty significant differences..

“The presidency and vice presidency is bigger than any of us.

“We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading this country. The peaceful transfer of power is one of the hallmarks of our democracy.”
I miss Obama already and he's not even gone
10
the best man we've had in office in a long time
@GnomeSlice truly one of the greats
not necessarily the best president but really truly a good dude
def not the worst either
@fredley He's in my list of the top 45 US Presidents.
17:39
@Yuuki how many have there been
@GnomeSlice 45.
Well, Trump's not sworn in yet, so technically 44.
I'm going to miss policy based on sound scientific principles.
3
17:40
@Ellesedil Wait, you had that?
@Ellesedil like "teach the controversy"?
@GodEmperorDune youtube.com/watch?v=y60wDzZt8yg go back a few minutes
17:56
@GodEmperorDune On the upside, I think you can have recreational marijuana to take the edge off this election now.
I voted for that in CA
At least I get to feel like one of my votes accomplished something
Well, that applies to you also.
... How do recreational marijuana laws apply to visitors?
I assume anyone in the state can use it. State laws generally apply by current location, not place of residence or anything like that
Hmm... I haven't taken a vacation to California in awhile...
Or Colorado...
Or the netherlands :D
18:01
I haven't visited the Netherlands at all.
I should go sometime.
I also voted to repeal the death penalty but looks like that is still in place
@arda I'm not even sure what that means.
Keep people outside the US from using Google, Twitter, Netflix, Facebook, PayPal, or Github?
Also, Github seems to be a really strange addition to that group.
I'm fairly certain that very few non-programmers know what Github is.
@Yuuki commitstrip is mostly developer humor, so addition of that makes sense, I guess.

Q: Effect a player who is far from another player

BrandomizedThere are ways to detect if a player is far from a command block or villager but how do you give an effect to a player who leaves a certain radius from another player?

@Yuuki Gi-thub? What's a gi-thub?
Sounds like some sort of social network
18:46
I stayed up too late last night. Now I need a nap.
Make Naps Great Again
so in a moving speech Trump said we need to bind the wounds of America
and I know just the solution
to make everyone know that they're all in this together
and it's everybody's fault
no takesies backsies
please print out and apply this tatoo in a permanent fashion directly to your forehead
and make voting great again
it comes also in the @fredley-friendly variant
18:53
In better news, my stock portfolio is actually up
@Unionhawk This clearly means you were wrong about Trump, the rest of the country saved you, and you should apologize immediately.
@Sterno yeah I'm exhausted. Fell asleep at 2am. Woke up at 5am. Checked the results. couldn't fall back asleep.
Unless I'm asleep right now and this is a nightmare
@Wipqozn I really really wish this is all a nightmare
You just needed some kids poking you awake, as well as the knowledge that even after work, you can't take a nap, to complete the experience.
@Wipqozn Yup, pretty much what I did
18:56
@arda Its going to take me a while to remember who you are again
Gosh darn avatar changes
I'm trying to make it to at least 8
@Wipqozn you know what's the best part? I'll be back to the old one tomorrow.
6 mins ago, by Unionhawk

People who change avatars are literally worse than figurative Hitler
@fredley When I go home I might just curl up with my cat
18:57
@Wipqozn I have no animals
:(
@Sterno aka trump?
@fredley :(
@Wipqozn Time will tell!
But no, he's probably not Hitler
My hope is more or less that Trump's like that racist uncle you have who says all sorts of awful shit but when he actually gets around the people he says it about, he's perfectly polite.
