although I must admit, going from the third floor of the VU all the way to my flight gate through elevators, metro, train, train ticket counters, bag dropoff, security and tapis roulant
oh, and @grace, it's kind of obvious in hindsight leaving the annoying keyboard aside. I've been using English as my main language for 6 months now, and for badp's mother language incapability paradox that implies I got worse at it.
@agent aye, I still have at least one year ahead of me
This is possibly in the realm of MSO, but since it's particularly applicable to this site I'm asking here.
We get a lot of answers that go out of date, particularly in oft-updated games such as Minecraft. Would it be possible to get a supercollider notification when a bounty is offered on a ques...
@badp ah, nice. does that have some electrical engineering in it, or is it mostly software where you're studying? my degree is in "computer engineering" and I don't know how that compares.
In the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, occassionally my sword (or my tail when I'm a wolf) will flash, and an accompanying sound will be played on my Wii Remote. What does that indicate?
@NickT mostly TI DSPs to date. I've done work interfacing with custom ASICs and FPGAs, but making them go with verilog/vhdl is generally someone else's responsibility. Most of my work is in C, occasional bits of C++
Gaaah, sometimes I'm really tempted to make a joystiq/massively account so I can post comments and correct people, then I remember that if I do that, I'll just get sucked into the miasma of dumb...
@IanPugsley well, I don't think that it helps that in most places I've worked, management views software as something a monkey could do if you gave them a computer and an IV drip of caffeine.
@FallenAngelEyes this is the exact XKCD I was going to post. THANKS FOR STEALING MY IDEA. sheesh.
I find it helps to write in the comment blank, and then hit cancel or just select all/delete. I get it out of my system, and I don't get sucked into some failtastic fight with internet morons.
I've also gone so far as to register for an account, and then intentionally make the password something completely random and stupid, so that I can't possibly log in. then if I forget and try to create an account again, it tells me I already have one, and by that point I'm usually too lazy to go through with resetting it
@FallenAngelEyes yeah, but these days, not to name groups, but there are a lot of people out there for whom logic and reason are bad words. know that your opinion is respected where it matters, and don't let them get to you.
@agent86 Yeah, it's just hard to strike a balance between "This is worth fighting for" and "Sit back and do nothing" that's comfortable and makes you actually feel like you're doing something worthwhile. When I decide not to engage, I always start questioning with stuff like "But shouldn't someone say something?" "If I say nothing, do I just become part of the problem?" "Isn't it worth it to take a little flak for a good cause?" and such.
@FallenAngelEyes I know this feeling. all this is going to do though is raise your blood pressure. the counter-message is out there, and they reject it. they're trained to fight you, and they've made their belief system impregnable. Especially on the internet.
I keep Steam pinned on my taskbar, but usually not open unless I'm actively playing or looking at something, so I use it to open to the relevant area immediately
@agent86 I probably should. I'm just having one of those days where I cannot focus on a damn thing, though.
I just bought a new game! I should be excited to play it and check it out! But I'm just feeling so unenthused about anything right now that everything feels like "meh"
@RavenDreamer At any rate, I found it from a thread citing what is apparently a deleted thread on the subject. It's probably from the depths of the evening that the announcement was made.
I think ronnie performed a valuable service in the nominations. He made every single other candidate look really awesome so we'll all be happy no matter who wins. :P
I am going to start making texture packs, as some of my friends have given me ideas for them. I just need to know if there is any way I can tell how much space (in pixels) I have to make an alternative texture for an item. Any ideas?
Also: is there any program that I can edit texture packs, so...
@FallenAngelEyes I didn't say he is sexy. I simply said he has an accent and accents are sexy by default. I have no romantic feelings towards him. (@RonanForman. psst I still love you. I'm trying to avoid a scandal.)
I'm trying to run the offline version of Minecraft (which I'm told doesn't need a premium account?) but the "play offline" button is greyed out, with the text underneath it reading "not downloaded".
Do you need a premium account to play offline?
Note: I've also tried using the assets.minecraft....
@RavenDreamer Yikes, hope nobody ever figures that out... I guess we have enough employees around here though that it wouldn't take long to get someone that could.
Maybe there's some automatic thing programmed into the engine for your username. Like when a question is automatically protected due to having answers deleted.

I wore glasses to correct nearsightedness for over 20 years before having LASIK surgery a few years ago. I've loved the freedom of not having to wear corrective lenses all the time. That being said, due to the fact that glasses did the work for me, my eyes had never really had to work the muscl...
