Oh good, we don't have to worry about global warming anymore since we're going to be wiped out by antibiotic-resistant superbugs first
Yaaay future!
@TimStone well done antivaxers
@Dragonrage fredley disagrees. everyone can joke about modabuse.
@GodEmperorDune Nah, this is due to us not making sure that proper healthcare is accessible in impoverished places leading to people doubling-down on cheap antibiotics as a cure-all
the thing with jokes about modabuse is that they need to be funny to be jokes
19:03
@TimStone and the antibiotics fed to fatten up livestock
@GodEmperorDune jokes dont have to be funny.
a person I know founded a company.
good jokes do though
Along with the general problem of antibiotics being a bad option because people often don't finish their regiment
"Name Surname Micro Devices".
19:04
@TimStone or because people request and take antibiotics when they have a viral infection
People also rarely finish medication sequences, too
It's a big problem for diseases like TB where you will start feeling better and become non-contagious long before the disease is wiped out in your system
So people say "Oh, I feel better? Time to stop taking my pills" and it comes back and is resistant
and we haven't investigated new antibiotics in decades
user15026
@twobugs Yeah, making sure you take all of the drugs you're prescribed is important
@AshleyNunn i was told not to do drugs :P
PaperStare
19:19
Desoldering is a PITA.
Protip don't be bad at soldering in the first place
:P
I hope you at least have a desoldering tool, right?
Nah, three LEDs in my desk lamp are flickering so I decided to remove them myself.
Oh
Well same question
Don't do drugs, kids! (unless the doctor has prescribed you to do it. Make sure the doctor has valid credentials.)
Or are you trying to desolder with a soldering iron, which will technically work, but be really annoying?
19:21
I have a solder iron, a desoldering wick/braid, and no Internet (and therefore nothing better to do).
reminisces about Dr.Mailbox
Dr. mario is not a real doctor
@Yuuki raises brow Alright there @GnomeSlice
@GodEmperorDune wait what? But he has the white doctor suit
DR MARIO IS JUST A PHD?
- game theory
19:23
DR MARIO GOT HIS PHD FROM A DIPLOMA MILL? - followup
Trump tells NRA Clinton will abolish 2nd amendment
@twobugs the president doesn't have that power though
DEADLOCK: DR MARIO IS AN EVIL TWIN? OR IS HE THE GOOD TWIN?
DR MARIO CREATED THE FNAF UNIVERSE? - final edition
State Lawmakers in Oklahoma are trying to impeach Obama for the guidelines on treating transgender students as humans
(They have no power to do that)
@twobugs what the f
19:29
they deserve trump.
They claim the guidelines are "biblically wrong"
I don't recall the bible mentioning this. Perhaps I am wrong.
Obama administration uses nonestablishment clause
it's super effective
why can't you goddamn keep obama.
The funny part is even if things go their way and they successfully get the ball rolling on impeachment, Obama will be out of office long before they can do anything
@ardaozkal because term limits.
19:31
It's almost as if GOP lawmakers are just trying to grandstand!
@Dragonrage Thanks, Roosevelt.
He isn't the best president, but he is ok at his job. Way better than trump and that guy white white hair, and that one woman noone likes.
Washington set the precedent but it wasn't an official thing until FDR
Bernie takes California and we're saved from Trump v Clinton
Let's go
But he was justified, IMO
Since, you know, the whole world falling apart thing
19:32
@Unionhawk it will be nice if we actually decide something
@Unionhawk i highly doubt that bernie will get the democratic nomination
He basically has to get 100% in California yes
but then again, math
And it might still not be possible
I don't know
Out of the three candidates, Bernie is the least sketchy but is also least likely to win.
19:33
so yeah. time to run to canada.
I haven't looked recently
@Yuuki plus he uses reddit
It is extremely implausible for Bernie to be the nominee
@Unionhawk one of my buddies is a big hillary supporter, so no 100% for bernie
@ardaozkal I don't want to get into arguing against "hes bad bc socialist", so I won't
19:34
Mostly due to the DNC. He has a better chance of beating Trump in the general, but party nom is the mountain.
@Yuuki yeah
The best we can hope for is that he makes a strong case and is chosen as running mate or forces Clinton to reach out to his supporters
Clinton would be stupid not to do the second thing
And I think she has to some degree
It's already too late for a lot of Bernie supporters after the shenanigans in Nevada.
19:35
Well, it's going to be harder for her now thanks to the DNC!
Yeah, screw those guys though
@Unionhawk The party apparatus is already losing Clinton a bunch of Bernie supporters through some really, really stupid decisions.
Part of me hopes this is the beginning of the end for the big parties
I didn't pay much attention to it, but I can hear it now, "Bernie, get a hold of your people" - trump. "Uh, your people commit assault on a regular basis." - everyone
I mean, GOP is going crazy about Trump. DNC is terrified of Bernie
Heaven forbid we have a left wing party for once
19:37
I've already heard "let it Bern or let it burn" way too many times to feel comfortable.
@twobugs green party has been around for a while
There has not been a viable third party candidate.
@Unionhawk part of it is two party bias
Maybe, if Gary Johnson makes it to a national debate, maybe that might be a thing
@GodEmperorDune Left wing MAJOR party :P I supported them in 2012 because polls showed Obama carrying my state
19:37
There will never be a viable third party candidate.
they never let third parties into the debates
its expressly forbidden
They need something like 11% national polling or something I thought
Unless my friends are dumb
Which is also possible
“Levi's Commuter x Jacquard by Google Trucker Jacket”
@Unionhawk they keep moving the bar higher each cycle
This name offends me
19:38
In political science, Duverger's law is a principle which states that plurality-rule elections (such as 'First Past the Post') structured within single-member districts tend to favor a two-party system, and that "the double ballot majority system and proportional representation tend to favor multipartism." The discovery of this tendency is attributed to Maurice Duverger, a French sociologist who observed the effect and recorded it in several papers published in the 1950s and 1960s. In the course of further research, other political scientists began calling the effect a "law" or principle. Duverger...
@Unionhawk them being right about that does not mean they arent dumb
This is true
I kept telling them "It's going to be damn ron paul again"
@Unionhawk Because it doesn't make sense with the current system. A third party candidate is almost certainly just helping the opponent and won't win
That's mainly due to our demonstrably fuct system of voting
19:39
@MadScientist I know, see Ron Paul etc
Which will most likely not change
It's fuct as in it encourages silly behavior like voting AGAINST someone rather than voting for someone you actually agree with
@MadScientist if both parties were to split, you might be able to get a 4 party system, but its unlikely
There are other systems where you have a certain number of points you can freely assign between candidates
19:41
Wait @twobugs, you mean like the Stack Exchange Moderator Election System?
@Dragonrage Nope, it would still converge back to a two-party system.
@Unionhawk I haven't been around for an election, so I don't know :P
You mean that's a system that works well for choosing n candidates based on who you agree with the most?
@twobugs You pick a 1 2 3, and the system works through the votes until it ends up with n winners (3 probably)
That's neat.
As long as you elect the president directly, there is always a drawback to a third candidate. If you have a proportional system and then the president/prime minister/chancellor is determined based on the parties/coalitions there are more options
user15026
19:42
SE Elections are Single Transferable Vote type shenanigans, iirc
Yup, and I'd really like to see an overhaul to our government selection process across the board. That's not likely, so I typically target more realistic, smaller goals.
or you could be pessimistic and assume it will never change and stop caring
We've had this discussion before.
@AshleyNunn Yeah, it's something like, if your number 1 is eliminated, then a number 1 weight vote goes to your number 2 now, etc
I don't really want to get into it again but if you do nothing you have no right to complain about the system.
19:44
I'm seriously worried that we'll have a Trump presidency as a direct result of the DNC pissing off Bernie supporters in droves, to the point where they vote Trump out of spite.
@Yuuki that would be too fuct
@Yuuki I will personally punch anyone who does this
A lot of people don't trust Clinton more than they don't trust Trump
user15026
@Unionhawk Yep! The system working that way (the transferring) is pretty much how I got elected, if I remember how it all rolled out :)
Which I personally don't get
19:46
Is Hillary Clinton someone who has been in politics for a long time and done shady things? Yes, absolutely. But she's also done a lot of good stuff.
@Yuuki I really don't believe that very loud and annoying group is actually as large as they think
@Unionhawk I think part of it isn't so much Clinton acting sketchy as it is the Democratic party officials acting sketchy
Trump is a disgusting idiot with a spray on tan and dumb hair.
@twobugs he's a terrific guy, the best guy
Nobody cares about Donald Trump more than Donald Trump
19:48
@MadScientist We can all speculate about vocal minorities vs. silent majorities, but it's better to err on the side of caution and not annoy anyone who would otherwise be in your camp.
We used to think that the US people would never be so dumb as to elect George W Bush. Then we made a bit fun of the US, but now you're really going a bit far
"THE SILENT MAJORITY STANDS WITH TRUMP" - loud people 2016
@MadScientist none of us are as dumb as all of us
Even if the silent majority isn't getting annoyed at the DNC, that still doesn't make what they're (the DNC) doing okay.
I wish BTTF had been right about Hoverboards and not Trump
Let's trade Trump for Hoverboards
Real hoverboards
19:50
@Yuuki no, it was stupid and shortsighted
Oh fuck they were right about that
@Unionhawk biff was specifically based on trump
@GodEmperorDune I know that...
80s trump, but trump nonetheless
that's why I said oh fuck
19:53
Since we're talking about Trump and time travel someone should make a joke comparing Trump to Lavos and come up with a reason why we're 17 years off
I still can't tell if r/the_donald is satire or not.
Well, it's probably real
There are grosser things on Reddit.
like the rest of reddit, basically
Well for specifically gross things and not just things that make me mad
You have like, Mensrights, all that Manosphere shit, etc.
@twobugs just the name makes me rage
19:56
The rabbit hole goes deep. I remember there used to be r/picsofdeadjailbait
@twobugs how the fuck
i don't
user15026
shudders
why the fuuuuuuuuuck
I'll stop
Yup, abuse of free speech rights for that to get banned
clearly
19:57
The founding fathers WANTED me to harass overweight people online!
If it's not banned I don't want to know about that
i mean i'm all for free speech but this is really pushing my limits
People got angry at Ellen Pao for "censoring" reddit but in reality she was exorcising the demons that live among us >_>
user15026
@twobugs >.>
user15026
Forget online, I get enough of that walking to work some days.
19:58
@TimStone And when she left the other guys were like "lol, we're here to clean up even more shit. Bye guys"
@TimStone The irony being she probably didn't do enough, I think there are still some really bad ones left
@AshleyNunn i apologize for my gender
@twobugs Yeah :/
But there are probably lots of considerations going into what they do and don't close we aren't privy too
user15026
@twobugs Probably, people will keep trying to make their cesspits.
19:59
@GodEmperorDune i dont think this is just a gender thing
Basically Ellen Pao made some really gross people mad so I would gladly buy her a pizza or two
Sorry, typing hard
Goddammit who is setting this property to null after I set it to my desired default value
Who is responsible for this
