:4625 Want help? 10 away is just one vote, but 12... :P
Makes no difference now, you cruel rep stealers! For the final hour has passed. Verily, the statistic doth start anew!
By my count you got it?
nite
G'night

:( my karoshi question got a close vote
:4635 It seems legitimate enough to me. Although, the second sentence seems a little odd to me. On my first reading I did not understand you were quoting the text you could see in the game. But its still pretty clear and (I don't know but have no reason to disbelieve) is about a real game.
yeah. Someone thought it was not a real question. I suppose they were catholic and hence disapproved of suicide.
LoL. If they are disapproving of things on that basis, I think they are frequenting the wrong site.
I have no problem, but we have plenty of questions that will seem off to them.
lol
some kid just did (p->q) and r, hence ~r and concluded that the statement p->q is invalid due to the inverse error, in the general case (ie there is no such thing as an implication.)
while the answer to the question is indeed inverse error, he had no idea how to get there
01:25
Wow...
I'm going home before I ask anymore questions about that infernal game...
I am pretty sure that beats out the Enterprise for 'most impressive thing ever done with minecraft'.
16 bit full adder is not that impresive
now if he could read from tape
:4647 it's less the design and more the willpower to spend the time constructing it thats impressive to me.
given that he did it in survival mode (i.e. the mode where zombies come and try to kill you at night)
In that case I would say the Enterprise is far more impressive, since its much larger and more detailed
Enterprise was made in creative mode.
no mean zombies.
no need to actually mine to acquire materials.
01:33
still requires more effort
and there are tools that will do most of the building for you if you give them a floorplan
(though they require lots of tweaking and fixing ingame as of now)

:4643 An ALU a computer is not
In computing, an arithmetic logic unit (ALU) is a digital circuit that performs arithmetic and logical operations. The ALU is a fundamental building block of the central processing unit (CPU) of a computer, and even the simplest microprocessors contain one for purposes such as maintaining timers. The processors found inside modern CPUs and graphics processing units (GPUs) accommodate very powerful and very complex ALUs; a single component may contain a number of ALUs. Mathematician John von Neumann proposed the ALU concept in 1945, when he wrote a report on the foundations for a new...

heh.

I'll need it to take over that mob spawner I finally found

you can play as Guybrush Threepwood in the newest Star Wars game. YES.
Jedi Threepwood.
16:01
@LessPop_MoreFizz um, really? What?
:4705 Force Unleashed 2 has Threepwood availiable as a skin.
@LessPop_MoreFizz now we just need an insult lightsaber fight mechanic
Haha are you kidding me? Seriously?
16:20
That's awesome
by the way
what's our answer rate on technical issue questions?
[technical-issues] [tech-support] [troubleshooting] etc
probably poor
of the 12 questions with those 3 tags there are 3 with accepted answers
I also added throubleshooting
Also, @tzenes some of thise questions without accepts are answered, just missing the check.

Q: CS 1.6 error with sxe Injected

Ayaz AlaviHi, i am unable to play cs 1.6 with sxeInjected 11. Upon launching game it creates log file in cs installation folder with name sXe Injected.txt containing following text 2010/09/03 18:27:15 - 2010/09/03 18:27:15 - ------------------ 2010/09/03 18:27:15 - sXe-I dll starting 2010/09/03 18:27:1...

User even posted their own solution, just never checked the accept box.
16:35
in that case I'd agree with you, but in the general case there is no way to know if there is a correct answer unless the user accepts one
I think this is unique to troubleshooting questions
:4727 this is true. I think part of the problem is that if you look at the askers on the troubleshooting questions, they seem to get a disproportionate number of low-rep, low-volume users. Who may not check in often enough to notice they left the question dangling, even when the right answer is there, because it took 1-3 days for someone to post it, and they've already gone off and found it somewhere else.

Q: Download and install new Amiga Forever games

eruciformThe site http://www.amigaforever.com/ offers a product that I've installed, but it has limited games on it. Has anyone successfully downloaded and installed new games for this system? It's all completely legal and clean to do so, this isn't one of those emulator hacks. And in any case, I already ...

Clearly, the answer posted is correct, the asker just seems to have forgotten about it.
that doesn't answer his question
he asked if other games work for it, not if the site has a list of sites which comply with the legal issues
though I think the answer is implied there, unless they link to sites with roms which don't work
which could be possible
I also wish we could flag as duplicate across sites just to be able to get it nice and linked across, as in:

Q: How can I run Dwarf Fortress in text mode on my Linux VPS

MachaI installed Dwarf Fortress on my Linux VPS to use with dfterm. It's running Ubuntu 10.04. I'm fairly certain I have all the dependencies: I've installed: ncurses ncursesw libsdl libsdl-image libgtk libglu libopenal1 I had to turn sound off or it will instantly segfault, and I set the display...

maybe a feature request for Close as Answered Elsewhere?
oh hi
:4720 -1, I'd rather have technical-issues

Q: Shooting trouble and supporting tech - yet another tagging qualm

Grace NoteIn today's episode of tagging disputes, we discuss one of our topics that isn't about gameplay! Well, usually. We're talking our support for software and hardware, which we have considered on-topic since very early on. [troubleshooting] x7 [tech-support] x12 [troubleshooting] has primarily q...

besides I think we should just say they're off topic and be done with them
since we can't answer them anyway
:4741 I think in this case, the fact that our users disproportionately select tech-support (and by a not insubstantial margin) is a better heueristic than two sketchy wikipedia definitions.
and I'm off to write exactly that in the meta thread.
16:46
:4745 Synonyms make this insubstantial
Troubleshooting is Q&A&Q&A&Q&A&Q&A, that's not what we do
again, I'd rather try and make them off topic
rally?
like rally everyone together to do it?
:4748 That's splitting hairs though. The point is that someone who has a problem with making their widget work calls the process one of seeking 'tech support' or 'troubleshooting' - regardless of how closely that process lines up with the reality of what they do.
:4752 yeah, and synonyms can make them all become technical-issues
so I don't see why we can't use the proper tag instead
:4753 Because the rule of thumb for a synonym is to use the most common existing tag, since that's going to be the one that people look for, not just using our own search tools, but also external tools like google?
are you going to be googling for the tag name or the actual question you have?
hint: the latter
16:52
:4756 "Starcraft technical support windows 7"
to use an example off the front page.
I'll tack on 'technical support' to search terms fairly often or 'troubleshoot' when I'm trying to solve an issue which involves... less than specific terminology.
4
A: Shooting trouble and supporting tech - yet another tagging qualm

LessPop_MoreFizzGoing to strongly disagree with @badp's answer here. Simply put, the best heuristic in naming a synonym, is to use the tag to which the users most frequently go of their own accord. By that measure, Technical-issues is right out as being simply not relevant to the discussion. Personally, I think...

17:07
An "indie" game reviewed by Yahtzee?!
Did he review minecraft?
Also, have you ever played Yahtzee's game?
Because oh god is it horrible
Specifically Chzo Mythos?
the game would be Amnesia: Dark Descent
:4766 Is it that stealth game robbery thingy?
:4769 No, Chzo mythos is his point and click adventure game.
Then I didn't play it.
17:29
area51 really needs a meta site
:4772 Or at least a better way to discuss existing proposals beyond just the comment line.
well right now a lot of what the meta questions would be go to MSO (eg meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/65535/…)
but also for merge/dup discussions
The cactus, btw, didn't work too bad
it does take too much time to eventually kill the baddies and once it grew high enough, they just wouldn't see me through
but it did let me keep things at a bay as I tried to understand WTF was up with the incredibly high mob concentration there
eventually I went in there defenseless with 16 candles readied spamming all over the place. This ruined their party pretty darn fast.
↑ yay for out of context quote :P (edited justifies CRoss's now removed message)

I gave in and bought Minecraft

mistake
Minecraft is a time goldfish
it expands to the size of all available free time
:4774 A few days ago you were convinced that question should be on the meta.webapps...
@Arda this is about general policy it already spans two sites
its meta-site
:4787 I agree. At the time, you didn't. That just confused me.
not meta engine
meta engine should be on the relevant site's meta
meta site should be on meta.area51
except there is no meta.area51
17:47
That question isn't about Area 51, it's about Web Apps (and Gaming)
actually its about beta and what that term means
since beta is a term which is defined by area51 a meta.area51 is the best place to discuss it
18:24
mmm... pizza.
Later.

Anyone who's ever seen any code, do a view source on subway.com . It's horrible.
21:15
haha
:4809 having fun?
looking at Subway's epic codez
it still has NN6 specific code.
Someone sent me a link to some japanese website a while back, where the source code was formatted such that when turned on its side, it matched the horizon as viewed from Tokyo, facing a certain direction
that would be a great bullet point on a resume
japanese again....
21:25
eh?
who else have enough time to make that kind of stuff (automatic mario anyone?)
21:38
sort of like e-feng-shui
most of it was done through garbage code like styles that don't do anything. You could probably write a pretty simple tool to do it, just pass in your webpage and a picture you want to emulate
and I'll bet it was all the marketing department's idea...
marketing department... sigh...
what is the worst programmed site you've ever seen?
My own, before i used drupal.
well I have a tool which rates websites and I'd like to see how it does on some
(and before i reached CSS Zen )

A: Reputation requirements compared

alexanderpas Private betas' non-1-rep actions have actually higher rep requirements than public betas', I'm sure this is not intentional? Private Beta non 1 rep numbers are the same as for the released sites. I think this has been done to hide this functionality, while still allowing those that hav...

Devils advocate anyone?
:4830 Sad North Korea cleaned up their website. In the past they had a really strong design:
22:24
:4830 found: update.microsoft.com (visit it on linux with firefox or something.)
:4830 or this: istanbul.tc/mahir/mahir (<big><big><big> active since 1999, way before borat)
22:40
@alexanderpas I was limiting it to just gateway pages, and only big company's .com sites

A: Is it worth connecting my cities with roads early in Civ 5?

WillfulWizardThere are two basic reasons to connect your cities by roads: for Trade Route income, and for Unit movement Connecting for Trade Routes Warning! These calculations are now suspect because of new info found about how road maintenance works. I will update this with any changes needed once we have ...

Oak
:)
Oak
All calculate-y and stuff
Its what I do. You took care of the hard part for me. :D
Oak
And I like your conclusion, maybe you need to emphasize it a bit more - connect when they get to 6 pop
23:13
emphasize sounds right.
yes, emphasize
I considered better formating, but I hadn't decided exactly what.
Oak
I think you should start with "according to my calculations, you should connect once you reach 6 pop", and only then give the gritty details
Oak
For the short-spanned viewers
Oak
But on the other hand, probably anyone who reads the first sentence will read the whole thing anyway...
23:19
:4856 I did something like that. (Edited then saw your new comments) How do you like it now?
Oak
Bummer @CRoss
It's an odd feeling being in the minority on language, especially since y'all speak mine so well
Oak
@WillfulWizard better, I think.
Oak
@CRoss no I meant bummer about not being able to play the civ5 demo
Oak
Very strange, to crash in turn 12.
23:21
You know, you keep saying it in a positive (build at 6) and I wrote it at negative (don't build till 6). I think your way might be better received.
yes, I thought so too
@CRoss Oh I had not seen that. I'm very sorry.
Oak
I mean either your system supports it or it doesn't...
Oak
I've posted an answer, pure guess but it helped me with other games
Oak
@WillfulWizard maybe change to positive, yes... but it will not help as I cannot upvote again ;)
23:26
:4871 I have no doubt I'm going to get a few more votes out of that answer in time. I'm not worried. But thanks!
