Command blocks on 1.8.1 as far as I know won't let me say something to players but not to the creators and it's driving me mad!

So I've installed Driver on my computer and even though it's an old game it works. I've been playing it, but it would be great to have a graphics update. So, I'm wondering if there are any mods out there that update the graphics. It's the original Driver game from 1999. It's hard to Google search...

I go into multiplayer mode and select any game type. And regardless what game type I select, it says Players Found... (after a little while) but then it does not find any game for me to play. And it stays that way - there are no error messages. Am I missing something simple?

I'm not sure if you actually lose gold and elixer so I'm wandering it you do so I know how to set up my base. Don't judge I'm a newbie to this game. :)
