uh oh, time to sue the android wear for copyright.
> We've placed extra functionality into the dial. It's called a crown. On the Apple Watch it's called a digital crown. When you turn the crown, it zooms in and out of maps. It can scroll through the list. If you're in an app and you press the digital crown, it returns to the home screen.
@GnomeSlice have you heard Porter Robinson's newest album? 'tis pretty goooood
@Rapitor Just one track off it.
Uh...
Sad Machine
@GnomeSlice heh, listening to that again right now lol. i've had the album on repeat for a while

Q: Does numbing traps reduce damage from elite affixes?

jeconnerThe numbing traps passive text reads: Enemies you Slow or hit with Fan of Knives, Spike Trap, Caltrops, Grenades, and Sentry fire have their damage reduced by 25% for 3 seconds. Does this damage reduction apply to elite affixes? Is it only melee attacks? What about boss area of effects, Malth...

Q: Mask of Madness - How does the Bonus damage recieved work?

RaikanI ask about this ability: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/dota2/Mask_of_Madness Unfortunately the wiki has not alot of information about the extra damage recieved: "Bonus Damage taken: 30%" How is the Bonus damage applied? With other sources of bonus damage? Additive, Multiplicative? Which attac...

18:10
This is cute.
@Rapitor That looks fake.
@GnomeSlice It does...but hey, this is EA and Tech support combined. It's not pretty
@Rapitor It sounds a bit like trolling.
I'm doubtful of the authenticity of that.
huh...Steampowered.com doesn't want to load :P
18:26
Especially the end. It doesn't ring true at all.
@GnomeSlice much like any of those things its probably isolated and not common occurances. Comcast is the same way, I've never personally had problems with them, but ive seen friends and others just get treated like crap
Apple's Watch is a watch that actually tries to run apps, but the screen is so small and the navigation mostly mystery meat.
@badp Digital Crown is literally the worst name ever
sony/apple
Ah the good old list of contacts with faces, because what you do with people when you add their number is also snap a photo
18:30
As a 'smartwatch' owner, I do not want apps on my watch. I want notifications, and HUDs where appropriate
Especially on the smaller version of watches, things seem set to look pretty painful pretty fast
Useful HUDs: SPORTSMODE and maps. I don't want to share my heartbeat with anybody without a medical degree, and even then only in certain circumstances.
This watch gives me RSI just looking at it.
@fredley It's no accident that he chose to go directions to someplace just around the block
Those maps look really painful for anything more complicated than that
@badp Also, that directions text is miniscule. You're going to have to hold it very close.
There's a reason they stuffed the hall with more fashion than tech pundits.
The question now is battery life, but I'm not hopeful here given how much actually runs on-device
The photo app on the Apple Watch seems so ridicolous
18:36
I know. It's bulky as. I was expecting better
Also price.
Coming now...
@fredley $349
"Available in early 2015, and it's worth the wait."
@badp As much as my phone.
@fredley Actually if your phone is not an iPhone 5 or newer, then you also need the iPhone.
@badp Early 2015 is a fail. They'll miss Christmas.
@badp So I need to spend what, $1000 in total?
To be fair, Android Wear also requires Android... because, well, I don't think iOS gives you access to notifications from other apps.
18:43
Android Wear doesn't excite me much either
Also they didn't talk battery at all.
@fredley I dunno, it seems set to do a couple things -- tell time, show notifications -- and do them well.
@badp My Pebble does that, and the battery lasts a solid week.
Swipe up and down between "tasks" (?), swipe right to act on them
and AFAIK that's it
Yeah, not much of an upgrade
LOL
Apple Pay works with Apple Watch
so I can steal your watch and run wild with your credit cards
much easier than taking your phone and your finger
18:45
I hope it only works within range of the phone.
"Hey bro, you got the time?" "Yeah, it's ... hang on. Just a sec. God fucking damnit. " http://twitter.com/Oatmeal/status/509409983583113216/photo/1

and it didn't save me from local trend promotion
Dear Java: push and pop are the accepted terms for adding or removing items from queues and stacks. Don't make me go look at documentation when you make a design decision that you think will help new programmers at the expense of more experienced multi-lingual programmers.
@MBraedley I'll add this to the list of reasons I hate Java.
@MBraedley What's so wrong about dequeue(), enterQueueFromBehindPolitelyIAmNotItalian() and justTryAndSqueezeItPastEverythingElse()
18:54
Also, add implies that you should be able to specify an arbitrary position where the item is inserted. Which would be stupidly easy to implement for queues and stacks based on linked lists.
@badp That last one is only applicable in priority queues
...there are languages other than C/C++ that use push/pop ?
@badp Funny, the Italian implementations of Queue and Heap are identical.
Disney did a thing
@Powerlord Maybe not, but how many other languages have (relatively) built in queues and stacks?
@MBraedley You mean other than Perl, Java, C#, Ruby, Python, and just about every other language in existence?
18:58
Apple iWatch: good luck if you're left handed
I wrote two lines of code today!
I feel like I really fit in now.
@MBraedley Aren't most of Java's add methods with an optional index for position?
@Powerlord What does Perl and C# call the push and pop methods?
@FEichinger Not for the class I'm looking at, which would have the simplest implementation for it. I doubt it exists for array based queues and stacks.
@MBraedley Something something pushpop ice cream. Sue me, I'm lazy today.
That's what's required by a queue in java.
19:01
I have watched 2 series of BSG in the last 3 days: BSG is awesome
@fredley Every time, I read that as Battlestar Galaga.
Your new gravatar is much harder to find in the user list than your turtle gravatar was.
This will result in less room ownerships for you
@MBraedley C#'s is Enqueue for push and Dequeue for pop.
And actually, perl forces you to use arrays, but it actually does use push and pop for those.
(and shift/unshift for doing things backwards)
19:03
I actually got a name chosen on Quirky. :o
@fredley I still don't like how you Brits refer to a season as a series. A series is the entire run of a show.
Season implies weather
Show is the whole run of the show.
I've named a security system, apparently.
Storey is the number of staircases between you and ground level (0)

Q: Does the numbing traps passive from multiple Demon Hunters stack?

jeconnerThe numbing traps passive text reads: Enemies you Slow or hit with Fan of Knives, Spike Trap, Caltrops, Grenades, and Sentry fire have their damage reduced by 25% for 3 seconds. Let's say you're in a game with 4 Demon Hunters, all running the numbing traps passive. Would the damage reduction ...

Q: Are joysticks an advantage in Elite: Dangerous?

LorenzI basically want to know if spaceships in ED are maneuvered with keyboard&mouse in a way that a joystick is no longer needed (or even a disadvantage).

19:06
@fredley That I'll allow, as it removes ambiguity.
@MBraedley I'll remove YOUR ambiguity!
@MBraedley I got used to it after watching so much top gear, but hearing them say "end of series" still always scares me a bit :l
In return, I'll get .15% of its gross revenue.
Euch, Top Gear
@fredley What's wrong with Top Gear?
19:08
@fredley ^
@MBraedley What isn't wrong with Top Gear?
@fredley Sorry, wrong question. What is it that you don't like about Top Gear?
@MBraedley It's discriminatory to all the other gears.
It's a repetitive, clunkily scripted, hosted by right-wing man-children.
there it is
19:09
I can't stand Jeremy Clarkson
@fredley I think you should mention which Top Gear you're referring to
your first problem is taking any of them seriously
@Chippies Top Top Gear
@fredley and that answers my question
Or Richard Hammond
James May is okay, but only on things that are not Top Gear
19:10
Funny, Captain slow is the one nobody really likes as he is so boring
I think they're all fine, they balance each other out
@Rapitor Quite. He's actually a very interesting person, but the character he plays on the show isn't
Clarkson is an idiot, and Hammond is childish. it's their chemistry
These are brill:
James May's Toy Stories is a television series presented by James May. The series was commissioned for BBC Two from Plum Pictures. The first episode, "Airfix", was shown on BBC Two at 8:00 pm on Tuesday 27 October 2009. The premise of the 6-part show was to bring favourite toys of the past into the modern era, by using the toys in real life large scale enterprises. In each episode, he also explores the history of each toy. In "Airfix", he builds a full-sized model of a Second World War Spitfire fighter plane, using the plastic moulding and assembly technique used in the Airfix self-assembly plastic...
@fredley It's a bit easier to take if you just pretend they aren't real people. This is easier to do because they don't live in my country. :P
19:11
@TimStone Yes. Jeremy Clarkson is worse in real life than his show persona though
@TimStone what do you mean pretend they aren't real people?! Are you implying the are real people? O.O

Q: What happens in the case of a tie in Clan Wars?

jacen.garrissWhen there is a clan war, what happens in the case of a tie? Does it default to some of the stats used to describe the clan war? or does it have like a deathmatch?

His newspaper columns are attrocious
I don't necessarily watch Top Gear, but if it catches my eye, I enjoy it
@fredley Oh, I know. We're pretty sheltered from any news about that in NA at least, though.
19:12
and I don't even care about cars
I watch it for the cars and the specials/challenges, don't really care for stars.
africa special is probably their best one
You know what I need. Instead of a rocket launcher, a rabbit launcher. With Killer Rabbits of Caerbannog as ammo.
@Rapitor Fair enough. I'm not into cars, which doesn't help.
@fredley the challenges are interesting to watch
I'm not into cars either, so there's that
user15026
19:14
Woooo, managed to confused like four people with one phone call.
it does have something for everyone... except people who hate gas emissions
user15026
That's a new record.
@Chippies They are staged, which makes them completely un-interesting. The outcome is predetermined by the script-writers.
Ah, I do enjoy cars, so that probably helps.
@fredley how do you enjoy anything with that attitude? All movies and tv shows are staged
19:15
@Ullallulloo Aw, I already own the only two I'm interested in of those.
@AshleyNunn It's okay, I rambled on and on in a conference call earlier.
@Chippies BSG IS NOT STAGED
IT IS REAL
@Chippies @fredley enjoys nothing and wishes to set the world on fire
@fredley they are, but they aren't entirely. it's planned sure, but a lot of unexpected stuff happens. like May getting a gash in his head.
@TimStone No, that's kalina

@fredley BSG is the Top Gear of space
@fredley I hate you.

I'm about ready to start despising LFR more than PvP at this point...
19:16
@badp But, but, Queueing!!
@badp ಠ_ಠ
@NateKerkhofs PhP?
This is for general videogames, right?
I'm talking about World of Warcraft
@NateKerkhofs mmm..... sometimes
@NateKerkhofs Usually a good idea to throw some context in if you're not joining the same conversation.
19:18
So get this: a toon in tank stance and tank spec, queued as DPS, and when I call him out on it, he tells me to "go fuck myself"
and the horrendous part is that the rest of the raid actually agrees with him
neat.
@NateKerkhofs People. Can't live with 'em, can't commit mass genocide.
@Frank I'm going to save the permalink for this so I can quote it in here later.
Hi @NateKerkhofs. We talk about games in here sometimes, but mostly we try and troll each other.
then again, that's probably the expected behaviour when doing LFR right before reset
19:19
@Frank well you can, but it's frowned upon
@Rapitor Just a little.
@Frank working on it! Damn laws of physics keep ruining my plans
Okay, for the life of me, I have no clue what LFR means.
@fredley Sometimes, I think that I got this giant image on other people's screen telling "this person is a prime trolling target, fuck with him"
@Yuuki Looking For Raid
19:19
@Yuuki Looking for raid.
user15026
@TimStone I hate talking on the phone, because I am always like "I am going to say something dumb, I know it."
@Yuuki uuh, not looking for raid
Ah, I was in a guild when I played WoW so I didn't do too much of that.
Laughing for rats
@AshleyNunn do you say that out loud?
19:20
@KevinvanderVelden Make sure to tell me when that death ray is ready.
In my opinion, it's more like Looking for Retard
I'll be down in my bunker.
@NateKerkhofs We tend not to troll new people, we're quite friendly actually :-)
user15026
@Rapitor I've so far managed not to.
@AshleyNunn Talking on the phone sucks.
user15026
19:20
@NateKerkhofs Pick another non-offensive word.
Because I'm more likely to run into those in LFR raids
@Frank pff, I'm a mad scientist, you can be in the control group
user15026
@MBraedley It is the worst. I was trying to book a hotel for a con in October and confused everyone which made me all flustered :P
To be fair, I think almost everything that happens in the Bridge is an attempt to derail what is happening in the Bridge. — fredley Mar 19 at 15:36
I think that's actually the least offensive word that adequately describes the people I sometimes end up with
19:21
@KevinvanderVelden The control group of mad scientists, maybe.
@Frank ... yes?
@fredley how did you pull up a post from MARCH
yanks power supply Ooh, this is shiny.
@NateKerkhofs There's "idiots". But that doesn't begin with R...

@Yuuki Ridiots does!

nobody cares about my attempts to derail the conversation into perverseness
@Rapitor I pulled one up from JANUARY!
and it's not even mine!
@fredley: Your chatroom is being derailed because my God, it's full of stars? Please. — Robert Harvey Mar 19 at 15:30
But seriously, who thought it's a good idea to make it so that players can play in a different spec than the role they're in there for?
19:23
jeez so many berrings
thank goodness they're fixing that in a few months
This is making me miss City of Heroes. Tanky DPS, DPSy tanks. Tanking glass cannons. and it was all viable!
@fredley Did we ever get a resolution to this?
@TrentHawkins And they were all fun.
@TrentHawkins ... how can a glass cannon tank?
3
I miss my ninja mastermind.
19:25
If you can tank, then by definition you are not a glass cannon
@Frank Nope, but Doorknob found a way to detect who is starring things
@fredley Sadly, it's a mod-only ability.
@Frank I don't think it is. You can read his meta posts if you want. It's non-trivial to do.
@KevinvanderVelden By killing things before he takes damage.
@Frank that's not tanking, that's just ludicrous DPS
19:27
@KevinvanderVelden That's tanking, if everything is paying attention to him.
Also, is that word I just used really such a bad word? According to archaic medical manuals, retards and idiots are gradations of being mentally deficient, so I doubt they're that much different
Nobody ever said it was good tanking.
Also, there were some enemies (like Lord Recluse) who were primarily Melee that you could tank by flying just enough above a lamp-post that the pathing would have him jump up, then fall down repeatedly.
@TrentHawkins That's not tanking, that's exploiting pathing bugs and something you should be banned for
19:31
@TrentHawkins I don't recall that, but that would've been hilarious.
Didn't he get a ranged attack for exactly that reason?
@NateKerkhofs I see your point, but it's just one of those social/correctness issues that it's better to just avoid. Some people are offended by mere words, and it's courteous to use alternatives... even if they mean the exact same.
@Frank Yes, he had one or two, but they were on long enough timers that properly built platers could tank those fewer hits.
Honestly, when talking about WoW, I'm way past the point of even trying to be politically correct in everything I say.
user15026
@NateKerkhofs While that might have been the usecase of the word then, it is used as a pejorative and an insult now, and demeans the people it is discussing.
Stupid Dora Backpack song won't get out of my head.
user15026
19:32
@NateKerkhofs Well, this room has different standards.
user15026

@Sterno how did it get there in the first place?
I guess I should be fortunate for not knowing that song
user15026
@Frank The hell? O.o
19:33
@AshleyNunn Work filters! They're fun!
@Frank bahahahahahaaaa
user15026
@Frank No kidding.
Do they also log those things, Frank, or is it just something on your screen?
@NateKerkhofs Our firewalls monitor, but we don't really keep track of that stuff.
We have way too much that needs doing.
19:34
Imagine the look on your managers face when you're trying to explain why you got a pornography strike "I was looking at Dora the explorer".
@NateKerkhofs That is probably what triggers the pornography filter, actually. Well, either that, or WordPress.
@NateKerkhofs EVERYTHING was valid. If the CoH devs didn't want you to do something like that, the'd add in a big ol' "Fuck you, you're grounded" laser turret like they did in some raids.
@TrentHawkins Or some dude would just jump up to you and smash you in the face.
@Frank That's awesome. I once found a great page describing some CSS that I needed, and decided to click on the author's homepage to see what else was there. Got that exact same message.
I guess pr0n and CSS go together.
@JasonBerkan You have Fortinets in your network, too?
19:37
@Frank Or they'd buff his ranged so the strategy was no longer viable.
I once found a solution of a problem I had on a website with the triple X TLD
@Frank It was a previous contract, and to be honest, I don't remember what filtering service they used.
@TrentHawkins Or that. Knockback became trivial if you were just floating there in mid-air.
"Oh. You hit me. Do a little flip, and I'm all good."
@Frank They changed that. Hover granted you minor protection, but you were still out for the duration of a knockback/down.
I used to use the same Google account for Chrome at work as I used at home. It worked pretty well, I just sometimes got recommendations for some of those NSFW subreddits I frequented in those days
19:40
@TrentHawkins Really? I don't remember that. I just remember getting smacked, and more or less ignoring it.
Changed to a work-specific account after a few months and a few close calls
There were some in there that I REALLY didn't want anyone else knowing about
And I am going to do something similar with Twitter, because some people just can't stop linking Yiff in my feeds
@Frank Yeah, there was much forum arguing about it. Fly was subject to a full 'duration' of a knock, hover was granted resistance to it and the duration was not as inconsequential as it once was.
user15026
My work doesn't track or trace anything we do.
@TrentHawkins Then again, I played a Stalker, so he was able to more or less ignore everything but extreme versions.
Neither does mine, but I'd still rather keep the dickpics as far away from my work environment as I can
19:44
Or my mastermind. Where my ninjas take all the hits for me.
FAE
FAE
@Frank Ah, facetanking with a blaster, the good ol' days.
@FAE Planning? Meh. Burn! Burn 'em all!
There only, "Not dead yet", and "Extra crispy"
I haven't played CoH in ages... and CoV basically never.
@Powerlord No one has, for something like two years.
FAE
FAE
@Frank I had ran a Fire/Mental Stamina-less blaster just to see if I could. That was tough until I got Drain Psyche, haha.
19:46
@Frank When I say "ages" I'm talking like a decade
FAE
FAE
@Powerlord Seeing as it never hit 10 years old, that would've been tough. :P
@FAE I went for Stamina-less builds just because.
It felt too much like a crutch to always take it.
So both my Stalker and Mastermind didn't have it.
FAE
FAE
@Frank More slots! I didn't mind it for some builds, especially for set bonuses.
@FAE You realize the game came out 10.5 years ago, right?
Does CoH still exist?
19:47
@Frank And then it didn't matter because they were inherants.
@NateKerkhofs Sadly not.
I'm trying to think of what game is abbreviated as CoH and I'm not having much luck
@TrentHawkins And I loved it! Made my builds better.
City of heroes
although I'm sure I've used that abbreviation myself recently'ish
The age of the game when it closed doesn't matter if I'm talking about the last time I played it. :P
19:48
oh
oooh
makes sense
FAE
FAE
@Chippies Sometimes used for "Company of Heroes" but who cares about that game :P
The Banner Saga for 10 EUR. worth it?
@NateKerkhofs probably. it's a good game
@FAE oh yeah, that's the one I was thinking of when I heard CoH, the CoV threw me off though
@FAE Exactly.
19:49
Yeah, Company of Villains wouldn't really go over that well, unless you're talking about EA
@Chippies CoV being City of Villains, the other half the game.
City of Heroes was where it was at.
FAE
FAE
@Chippies Community usually just abbreviated both as CoX.
Well, CoV used to be a separate game, but I think they were merged at some point.
@Powerlord And then CoX was used as a reference to everything.
19:50
@Powerlord yeah, I figured that when I was told CoH is City of Heroes
@Powerlord Well, there were amalgamated PvP zones.
@Frank I'd rather not hear you talking about CoX.
@FAE are they really such dicks?
This just in: Apple Watch has no battery, it's powered directly from Apple's new power generation facility installed over Steve Jobs' grave.
19:50
@fredley Sounds about right.
@fredley entirely believable
Actually, how much energy does that generate?
@Powerlord To be fair, the spinning is caused mostly by the iPhone 6 plus plus
@Powerlord It used to be an expansion only thing, but like WoW's expansions, it was eventually rolled into the main game for everyone.
@fredley I think it sucking your life energy out of you to power itself sounds more plausible
19:51
@Powerlord So far, a way of measuring the limit on the torque has not been found
Wait... if we kill Bill Gates then get Microsoft to contribute lots of useful code for Linux, would that be enough energy to power the entire world?
Microsoft and Useful code? now that's a new one
disclaimer: I work for a microsoft Silver partner
@NateKerkhofs idk. MSDN is friggin helpful
@NateKerkhofs Claims dissed
@Rapitor MDN > MSDN
MSDN is also friggin bugged at times, with a bunch of dead links
and god help you if you want to look up an older version
19:53
I don't think we're a Microsoft partner... but we're definitely a large Microsoft client.
.NET and Visual Studio are some of the best things MS has ever produced.
I often have to go up 5 levels and then dig down 5 levels again to get to the same page for a piece of software one year older than the one that Google brings me to
And neither are on Linux
Sadly, the vast majority of their stuff suffers from kitchen sink syndrome.
The only reason that Windows is so big is because it's nearly impossible to port all that business software and all those games over to something that Linux or Mac can run on
Our office even partnered with Microsoft for Bing Maps (PDF)
19:56
if I could play every single game that's currently available on windows on a Linux device without having to buy it over, I'd switch in a heartbeat
Dammit. Now I want to play City of Heroes again. :(
find an unofficial server, maybe? if they're there for WoW vanilla, they should be there for CoH
I doubt they'd sue you for it
but obviously, you didn't hear it from me
@NateKerkhofs Yeah, there aren't.
"@NateKerkhofs told me to do it!"
Then make one yourself
19:59
I'd rather run my own, if they ever got the server architecture that far.
Sadly, the best they have now is being able to fly around an empty Atlas.
