PrecipitousMy family currently uses the XBox minecraft edition. I thought it would be a fun project to set up a minecraft server with my kids. I've got some hardware to run the server. I've downloaded the client software. When it starts up, it wants to update from some account. Is it necessary to by a cli...

@MBraedley What's wrong with Facebook Messenger?
I've actually found it to be one of the best modern messaging media. Read receipts, ability to send files, emoticons (not that I use them), integration into a popular social media service, group chat capability, message history, the ability to send messages to offline persons...
One of the only down-sides is that it only allows calling through it via mobile-to-mobile, but it has calling.
@NiteCyper Only everything
Go on.
You have to use Facebook
Okay, I was being hyperbolic. I prefer alternatives.
And that tight integration with a social network isn't a positive, it's a negative.
23:26
@NiteCyper Most modern messaging systems have most of those features
@MBraedley I can sort of understand, but I'd like to hear your reasoning.
@NiteCyper For one thing, it has rights to everything on your phone.
@NiteCyper With a social network, the expectation is that you expand your connections beyond just friends and family. With a messaging app, you only want the people you're actually going to talk to as connections.
@RPiAwesomeness 'Ashamed to say that I don't read EULAs or ToS or whatever.
@RPiAwesomeness A lot of apps have that. It doesn't really indicate as much as it seems to.
@RPiAwesomeness Though there was that story about how Facebook wanted to turn on the microphone while the phone was asleep to listen to your surroundings
23:29
@murgatroid99 Yeah...but this is Facebook. everyone hates facebook.
:)
Actuallly, Facebook says that wasn't the intention, so I'm not sure of that
Evil mega-comp...wants access to the worlds data. Not to mention the app is crap, or so I've been told
For instance, with Facebook, you're friends with your entire highschool graduating class (if it's small enough, say 100 people). With LinkedIn, you're connected to everyone you've ever worked with, although oddly, usually not people you're currently working with.
@murgatroid99 Yeah, yeah. That's what they all say :D
@MBraedley lol
@MBraedley Do you have someone(s) who pesters you but you must maintain contact with on Facebook?
23:30
@RPiAwesomeness It actually has the same permissions as the main app.
@RPiAwesomeness I know that feeling, but now that I'm at Google I know what it's like to be on the other side of that perception
Oh, well, hey. I don't have Facebook and I don't have an iDevice. My friend just told me that
@murgatroid99 Whoa...you work at Google? Nice :D

Sums up my opinion on Facebook prety well.
@NiteCyper No, but that's not the point. With a messaging app, you see who's online and the sort. With a messaging app on your phone, you see that status whenever they have an internet connection.
@RPiAwesomeness Yes, since a few months ago.
23:31
@OrigamiRobot Nice one :D
I don't think I'll get a Facebook, at least not for a while.
@MBraedley Well, it tells you if they're available via mobile or if they actually have the site open. And those who recently access via mobile will appear as online, instead of just available via mobile.
@NiteCyper Oh yeah
@OrigamiRobot In one sense that's right, but the picture really exaggerates the implications of that statement
ookay...@OrigamiRobot My Cross-SE rep is pretty darn close to yours...this is weird...
wait...
Online on a mobile
23:33
@murgatroid99 Exaggerations are the only way to communicate.
test...
argh
My rep...
is going to show
@OrigamiRobot Maybe if you're a robot. We humans have more nuance
now...
@murgatroid99 CURSE YOU!
cmon
stop...
@RPiAwesomeness I already see it
@murgatroid99 All of you? What an exaggeration!
23:34
@murgatroid99 Oh, you do? I don't...
@murgatroid99 What is it?
@OrigamiRobot I didn't say all. You did. What an exaggeration
@murgatroid99 I am a confessed exaggerator
Wow...I'm that close. This is madness...
Or Sparta...whichever you prefer
You made no attempts to limit the implied pool of humans.
23:35
3303 is not very close to 3885
@murgatroid99 Close enough for government work.
2
@murgatroid99 Okay...It's under 1000 close.
@OrigamiRobot true.
@murgatroid99 It's close-ish
Also
so good
23:36
@RPiAwesomeness 25% difference
Too bad it's rare.
OK, more like 20
@OrigamiRobot That's how it works
@murgatroid99 I don't have any UR EDH decks so I'd only ever get a chance to run it in limited
and it's not amazing in EDH
@OrigamiRobot You could build one
23:37
Maybe if the Temur khan is good, I will.
@murgatroid99 It's actually ~15%
But to heck wif mafs. I'm out of school for the day :D
Ooh, Empty the Pits looks interesting
I want to make that...
I really need a 3D printer
Would be SOOOO amazing
23:41

Tomáš ZatoI'm building an automated wheat (and others) farm. The farm consists of a long cascade of farm fragments: Seen from side Currently, I have to manually toggle water off after it reached the bottom region. Could it be arranged that the water turns off automatically after bottom has been reached...
