I am incredibly out of shape, but it's okay because my fraternity (and friends) are just terrible at being Canadian
user15026
@GnomeSlice This fascinates me.
they should rope in the re-captcha project to help discern some of the more difficult (faded/blurred/whatever) parts, for OCR purposes... apparently it's been a hit with libraries
@AshleyNunn Apparently it's more than 40M pages, so it will probably take them a while.

Q: Concurrent players on WoW - then and now

user72594I recently looked at the question How many concurrent players does a typical WoW server have?, where someone asked how many concurrent players are on a typical WoW server at any given time. At the time, the answer was apparently 900 with a peak of 1500. The link given http://www.warcraftrealms.c...

02:04
I'd love to be a part of the group working on the project
user15026
@allquixotic That would take so much time, though.
@allquixotic What, using captchas to decipher blurry images?
user15026
Considering their doc size I would assume they would have people who specifically would do the checking, especially considering they are religious docs, in some cases, where screwing up the wording could have interesting effects
@AshleyNunn they can release the non-OCR versions as images or PDFs or something in the meantime, and then work in the OCR as they get results back from recaptcha...? I don't know how libraries do it, but they probably have a similar strategy
@GnomeSlice yeah, except this time, you'll have to read latin or greek :)
user15026
@allquixotic That's not really how that works a lot of the time, no.
user15026
02:06
The more sensitive and rare the docs, the less likley the public will be allowed to have any hand in it
user15026
trust me.
user15026
Also, they might leave the bits as historical artifacts, like how they have left the stuff with embroidered holes and the like alone and not tried to futz with it
user15026
Sometimes, the not knowing is part of the value.
Wtf Ellie Goulding did the music for the Divergent film?

Q: Are American media controlled mostly by Jews?

valodzkaImage below can be found on many sites. Is it accurate and representative? Is it true that American media is controlled mostly by people with Jewish origin (more than 50%)?

Ahahaha the chart.
user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz But what if they are a goy nonwhite jew what colour would they be then
It says goy not gay.
Short for goyim. It means non-Jew.
user15026
I am aware, my fingers just typed wrong
You can't be a goy jew
user15026
02:09
@LessPop_MoreFizz Eh, fair, I just want there to be more colours
That'd be like being a fish dog. Or a mammal bird. They are different things.
user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz .....
user15026
I admitted to my mistake.
@AshleyNunn "nonwhite jew" is not represented in the chart either.
user15026
I don't need a lesson.
02:10
@FEichinger Unfortunately, I'm on my laptop.
I was typing before you did, sorreh
Which is not equipped with the drama button.
user15026
@FEichinger Needs more colours!
And was trying to just be silly, not mean. :(

Q: How do I get the slurpuff dress in pokemon x/y

NolanNiteThe girl always says she wants to see a girl in a colourful outfit but is there a specific outfit you gotta wear?

02:11
this looks cool
@Unionhawk he's no doctor Steve Brule.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Dogfish?
I said fish dog not dogfish.
SAME THING, APPARENTLY
Evening all . . .
@LessPop_MoreFizz How's your liver?
@davidm probably fine, though I don't understand why an invisible construction crew felt the need to follow me all the way across Connecticut.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Buh?!?
@DavidM Headache, I assume.
@FEichinger That would make some sense.
02:17
@DavidM @LessPop make sense? That'd just be silly.
@Unionhawk Yes... I must have been confused.

Q: Is this a portmanteau, contraction, or perhaps both?

David MI have chosen to edit this post because it apparently has offended some of the more sensitive among us. While, personally, I feel this should prompt discourse rather than down votes, I do not wish to offend people who unwittingly stumble upon this question. I was contemplating a word that is a...

@LessPop_MoreFizz Is that John C Reilly?
02:21
@Unionhawk I thought you had already exceeded 1 badp when we talked about my fridge named Louis, or the fact that I want to be the mother of @GnomeSlice.
I tried to ask if fucktarded is a contraction vs. a portmanteau word, and people got a bit bent out of shape . . . go figure.
4
@DavidM Hahahahahaha
@allquixotic My confuse level is allowed to fluctuate
@GnomeSlice Yet, the question about people swearing oaths on other people's testicles, was A-OK.
@gnomeslice yes.
02:23
@LessPop_MoreFizz Hey, you typed it correctly
user15026
@DavidM I may also hate the word, but it is a damn valid question!

Q: Why place a hand on the Bible instead of the Judge's genitals when taking an oath?

medicaEtymonline gives the etymology of testify as ...from testis "a witness".. + root of facere "to make"... Biblical sense of "openly profess one's faith and devotion" is attested from 1520s. Related: Testified; testifying; testification. (also, testament, intestate, etc.) In Biblical times, to...

user15026
@DavidM Oh that was an interesting one :P
> The Wikipedia article linked in your question has a discussion of this point
Of course it does

Frank Meet Game X. It's an online game. A rather popular online game, in fact. That doesn't really matter, though. Whenever the game has to be maintained, this happens: This is the natural course of online games. It goes down, so that something can be done to it. Nothing wrong with that. We...

There. Feel free to downvote away.
I was rather too emotionally invested to ask that before.
user15026
@Unionhawk gee, what a shock.
user15026
@Frank y u not on steam? :(
@AshleyNunn I'm...not?
user15026
02:29
@Frank I don't see you :(
Silly Steam. It keeps setting me to appear offline, for some reason.

How To Get A Job:
@gnomeslice Meta doesn't need good SEO.
@LessPop_MoreFizz It still needs a descriptive title doesn't it?
user15026
02:33
@LessPop_MoreFizz Thank you, I was trying to put that succinctly. deletes the paragraph she was writing
It's quite descriptive as is.
@LessPop_MoreFizz it means nothing
Who cares if it means nothing?

@Unionhawk @GnomeSlice.
02:34
@Yuki Right, figured I'd get that answer.
> What to do about content between playable states and release?
It's fine as it is. People shouldn't be answering metas based on titles anyway
@Unionhawk If I get an answer of, "Yay, Game X! It's awesome!", I'm going to be awful sad.
user15026
@GnomeSlice There a reason for this quote?
Okay, need some more helps determining which audition to send in:
02:38
@AshleyNunn A title I thought would work.
user15026
@GnomeSlice It's meta, titles matter less
user15026
@Yuki I still say 1. For all the reasons I said 1. :P
God, I hate having to say this, but I agree with @Gnome ... The title should at least tell us what the question is about.
@AshleyNunn Well, Script 1 is leading by 3 votes to nil.
And oh god, I just used "nil". I think I just lost a point on my "I'm 'Murrican" card.
"Game downtime - wat do?" would be perfectly fine.
user15026
02:40
Can we not have an edit war on the title please?
@Yuki cuts a corner off your "I'm 'Murrican" card
@TrentHawkins lol
It's okay, as a texan, your card is by default an octagon, so it has more corners
@Unionhawk Wouldn't cutting off a corner just give me more corners?
02:41
I like my title, thanks. It's too much of a mouthful to put the entire question into the title. — Frank 12 mins ago
......
wait
I mean, cutting the corner off a square turns it into a pentagon.
hold on
wait a minute wait a minute
@Yuki 3:1
@Frank I came up with a shorter one.
user15026
02:41
@Yuki cuts off all the corners
@FEichinger What, are you voting for Script 2?
@Yuki Yep.
@FEichinger 'Kay.
I think if you cut all the corners, iteratively, as n->inf, then you get a circ--WTF I'M THINKING ABOUT THIS TOO HARD
@FEichinger Any particular reason why you prefer Script 2 to Script 1?
02:43
@Unionhawk Technically, a circle has infinite corners, too.
@gnomeslice stop it.
@LessPop_MoreFizz ?
user15026
@FEichinger What how
If you make an edit and the original author instantly reverts it, hitting the rollback button again is never appropriate.
@LessPop_MoreFizz I didn't roll it back.
I came up with something shorter because he said it was too long.
02:44
@LessPop_MoreFizz True that!
Sorry, I was just trying to help.
@LessPop_MoreFizz I actually spent thirty seconds thinking about if I wanted to do that or not.
@FEichinger Yes, that's what I mean, as you cut corners, you add corners, so as n->inf, ncorners->inf, therefore circle QED
user15026
@GnomeSlice We already said to leave it, in a few different ways.
@FEichinger Depends on how you define corner?
02:44
@AshleyNunn Some people disagreed, some people agreed.
@Yuki Was going to reply that to @AshleyNunn, yes. Exactly that.
Maybe?
@AshleyNunn It doesn't look like he did anything wrong to me.
user15026
@FEichinger Corner - where two edges meet? So how does circle?
He tried to improve it and listened to feedback when he didn't like the first improvement.
02:46
@AshleyNunn If you have a regular n sided polygon. As n approaches infinity, the length of the sides approaches 0. And math magic says it makes a circle.
Basically math magic.
Ask @WorldEngineer
@Unionhawk This, basically.
@Unionhawk Calculus, go!
@gnomeslice chopping out words to make a quasi-sentence does not count as 'improving'. And more to the point, you're starting an edit war for no reason. After one back and forth, just leave it be, or maybe, try to convince the author, either with a comment or in chat, that the improvement is needed before forcing the issue.
But if we define a corner as "point where two lines meet", I'm not sure how that jives. Is a circle considered a single line?
@LessPop_MoreFizz He has me on ignore
02:47
Slightly reconfiguring your edit and throwing it up again is just as counterproductive as mashing the rollback button.
One in which all points are the same distance (radius) from a single point?
user15026
@GnomeSlice You can leave comments on the post and other signposts to indicate a view
@gnome only in chat. You can leave a comment.
user15026
@Yuki This is a thing I am also wondering.
@Yuki You need more range for the first script to fully click, and I think that would need more work than perfecting the second one from what you already have.
02:50
@FEichinger More range? Do you mean I need more pitch variation?
@Yuki Two lines of length zero meet infinity times along the edge of a circle.
@Unionhawk That's... actually not a good argument.
Plus, for any n-gon, as n->inf, it looks more and more like a circle
Two lines of length zero can meet an infinite number of times on any point.
@Yuki Well... Calculus is weird
user20683
02:51
@Unionhawk truer words
Integration is adding up an infinite number of zeros, and getting a number like 5
Just, because
user15026
@Unionhawk This is a thing I am rapidly learning the more I ask @WorldEngineer to explain things which happens a lot
user20683
@Unionhawk no, it's adding up an infinite number of arbitrarily small numbers and getting 5.
Yes. That
Whatever
user20683
due to the fact that you have a limit, you can fake the addition
user20683
02:52
because math
user15026
can I do that and say 2+2=5?
as divisions->inf, dx->0, so it's a limit and whatnot
user15026
because I want to.
Can somebody with fast internet do me a big favour.
user15026
@GnomeSlice Possibly?
02:53
@AshleyNunn For large quantities of 2.
@Yuki Tone, primarily. You're rather monotonous - a lot of what you do good comes from changes in speed and slight pitch variation within a sentence - you need more range on the overall tone.
I need somebody to upload a video to my fiverr gig for me. I will have to give you my login info, so preferably not here.
I've been trying all day.
Their uploader is some broke shit and I think my internet is too slow
@AshleyNunn How about 2+2 = 11?
user15026
@GnomeSlice ping me someplace :)
Well, that'd be (2+2)base10 = (100)base2
user15026
02:55
@Yuki This clears up a lot.
@Unionhawk No it wouldn't.
user15026
@Frank oooh magical yes lets
Wait, shit
YOU'RE WRONG.
You're right that's 3
Dammit
DAMN YOU @FRANK
02:55
I'm so sorry I know my binary.
@Unionhawk Base 3, actually. :P
AH
welp
@FEichinger I SHOULD TOO I JUST BLINDLY THOUGHT IT WAS BINARY
I AM A FAILURE
>:(
user15026
@FEichinger I am pleased that I know how binary does things now.
@Unionhawk I like throwing wrenches into established norms to keep people on their toes.
02:57
It makes people want to hit me with said wrenches sometimes, though.
YOU MAKE ME LOOK LIKE IDIOT
2
I DO THAT WELL ENOUGH ON MY OWN THANK YOU VERY MUCH
@Unionhawk YES YOU LOOK LIKE IDIOT
I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP
we must push little cart
I'm going to blame that on the fact that one of my professors is a Russian
02:58
whoa... 1990 episode of TNG had video playing iPad with rounded corners
@Unionhawk Actually ... Russians and Maths, you know ...
@FEichinger YOUR FAAAAAAAAACE >:(
@Unionhawk I wasn't going to say it, buuuuuuut....
