@Oak Yes, I can see the little overlays on the icons

@James The Eclipse git plugin will add ">" before the file name of a file which has been modified from the repository's version, and will also add ">" before any folder/project that encloses such a file, recursively.

You can go to command-line and do "git status" to see a list

@James it's a properly of the git plugin. The subclipse plugin, for instance, uses a different approach (adding a small black asterix to the file icon)

Q: Where are the batteries in the first area?

When I first found the door which requires batteries, I avoided the sparking things on the ground, because obviously sparks=danger. I continued exploring and found various batteries, but could only carry the one. I finally discovered that I was supposed to put the batteries on the sparking bits, ...
