If they do post stuff like that they are pretty much asking for deletion
The hammer could fall whenever I suppose

@Wandang @Laura is the hottest, just look at that mouse over action!

@Wandang Yep he's kind of CEO

@MartinSojka yeah they all have. i am just autotriggerin some algorithm. twitter hates me
but i do not want to follow male pornstars ಠ_ಠ

I said "at random." I could just picked ... I don't know, Jewell Marceau or something.

@RedRiderX maybe because i use trash data they realize i am not a person
wow anna lear is hot

3:05 PM
It has been a while since I emailed abby what I had to lunch, maybe I should do it again

most women on there are hot
damnit

@Blem Hehe, you can tell that this is fake. There are no good cats.

Music Theory and Composition

Proposed Q&A site for folks looking to discuss composition & music theory (not practice/performance; there's already a site for that); for music theory experts/students, as well as professional composers (& wannabes). Less obvious topics include notation & orchestration.

Currently in definition.

Research Reviews

Proposed Q&A site for researchers in every scientific, academic and technical field.

Currently in definition.

3:10 PM
@Wandang I can confirm that this is 100% not the case.

Polish-German double family name. Getting people to spell her name properly is surely a pain.

@GnomeSlice ಠ_ಠ

@GnomeSlice @Wandang it is only when you post a screenshot of it

What do you mean? There is no such thing as a small/big pixel. — Arperum 1 hour ago
@Arperum - Have you never seen an EGA monitor? Those were BIG pixels.
:)

I wonder why there's no "unclear what you're answering" flag

3:15 PM
@MartinSojka not for me :3

@Sconibulus There is..?

oh, answering
that's called not an answer

Laura

New York, United States
i bet she is born in usa. therefore she might not even know how to pronounce her name probably

4 hours left to nominate!

3:18 PM
So, what's this about Microsoft buying the Gears of War franchise from Epic?

when i correct german family names from foreigners they get mad like : ಠ_ಠ
@Powerlord nice, better then ea

@Wandang Well, yeah.
You're basically saying, "You're doing it wrong, and have been for decades"

@Frank not my fault if they cannot pronounce german and stick with their error

HamStare @wandang

I'm pretty sure the person who has the name wins by default any argument over proper pronunciation.

3:19 PM
@Wandang Actually, it totally is.

@Sterno Aye t'this.

Oh, it was weird listening to the radio this morning and hearing how many schools are closed in the area today. And then noticing that while basically every suburb's schools are closed, Lansing itself still has school.

lol you say that because your are canadian

@JasonBerkan That doesn't matter to minecraft at all.

Reminder: I hate uPlay

3:21 PM
if i remember correctly.

@Arperum I know. Humour fail.

@Wandang I'm Canadian, yes, but that has nothing to do with it.

@Sterno Nomination window is too long

@Sterno Because it royally sucks. It was one of the main reasons I stopped playing Heroes VI.

@JasonBerkan Oh god loud ping. turns down volume

3:22 PM
I find it strange when people with German last names don't actually pronounce their names like they would be in German.

@Frank canada like usa has a lot of migration and therefore many foreign names. so i guess that it would stick in their mentality to not care
how to proper pronounce

@StrixVaria Meh, that's normal evolution of language.

@Wandang Rather than not care, it's more, "Embrace the diversity"

My last name is German and from what I can tell, pretty rare.

There's more than one right way when pronouncing names.
Or, more accurately, there is no wrong way.

3:23 PM
@Frank tell that my english teacher back in school :/

I actually I figure there's only one right way, and that's "How that person who owns the name says it is pronounced."

@Wandang East Brunswick, New Jersey says my usual "research people on the internet" query.

verwirrt@BADP

@GraceNote not used to that mentality

3:24 PM
@Blem Two frames of animation means I gotta move quite a lot to get anywhere.

96 minutes to go

If someone would come over to me and tell me i mispronouce my name completely, I'd tell them that they are wrong. It might have been originally like that, but now it isn't anymore.

People always try to put an s on the end of my last name. I've grown tired of correcting them.

robots?

It's fun for everyone to talk about how people screw up their last names but still won't tell anyone their last names to give specifics.

3:25 PM
@OrigamiRobot 80% leaves out an "e" in my last name. I can relate. It's so goddamn annoying

@StrixVaria Wale

so i could go to america and call myself moiller instead of miller

@Wandang You should get used to it. People are the authorities on the pronunciation of their names, all of them.

thats tempting

@OrigamiRobot Yours is the only one I actually knew :P

3:26 PM
Hmm, Lansing schools are open today but have already announced they're going to be closed tomorrow due to the cold.

@StrixVaria Evenepoel. Turned into Evenpoel by people who are wrong.

@StrixVaria Mine's public knowledge, I don't need to state mine, umlaut or otherwise.

@GraceNote You mean, it isn't "Note"?

@Arperum I didn't even see the difference until I read them 3 times each. :(

@Arperum I had to look really hard to see how those were different...

3:27 PM
@MartinSojka The R-9DH was my vessel, not my person.

Considering that Wales is a place, I can't really blame people for gravitating towards that.

@OrigamiRobot I knew a guy who put an 's' at the end of about 50% of names/words he said. He consistently added it to the same names/words, but it was always wrong.

@OrigamiRobot I know, the letter is pronounced though, and somehow most people who hear it still fuck it up. :(

99% of people pronounce and write my first name wrong

well i was shocked by breaking bads german
because it was incredible accurate

3:29 PM
@Wandang There's German in Breaking Bad?

@StrixVaria I find the same about people with Italian names.

there is 1 episode where they talk the first 5 min in german and i was wondering if i got an german dub version instead of english

@3ventic People pronounce my first name perfectly fine. They never get the spelling right.

@3ventic 99% of people are not Finnish, and everyone knows finnish is completely impossible to pronounce for a non-finnish person.

The British accents in Arrested Development are amazing

3:29 PM
and i could here a faint of american accent, so the actors were americans after all

@Wandang Now I kind of want to watch the show more.

Because they are so bad, and they lampshade bad British accents so well

not clock watching much
but...
90 minutes until homeitme

@Arperum Foreigners do it better than Finns. I have a foreign first name.

I blame my mom for spelling Nicolas unconventionally.

3:30 PM
@Wandang Oh yeah, that was in the last season, I think.

@3ventic Ah, that'll help.

@StrixVaria why? you like to hear german?

@Wandang Yes. Where the guy is tasting chicken nuggets in the lab!

@OrigamiRobot That's the same as my little brother!

@kalina lies

3:30 PM
@Wandang I've been teaching myself German on and off for a bunch of years.
I'm nowhere near fluent, but I can get by.

@DavidM yep

@OrigamiRobot Also: written like that is the french spelling of the name.

@StrixVaria ah sehr schön

@Wandang That was a GREAT scene!
Very well acted.

My German mostly extends to my last name and a bunch of other surnames. Also thunder and lightning. Because reindeer.

3:31 PM
@DavidM and i thought they would become nazis
because i am used to germans beeing nazis

@GraceNote Achtung! Spitfire. That's the extent of my German.

@Arperum Is the French shortened spelling "Nic"?

@JasonBerkan LOL
too much war of planes?

@JasonBerkan What, not even the classic "Wenn ist das Nunstück git und Slotermeyer? Ja! Beiherhund das Oder die Flipperwaldt gersput!"?

3:32 PM
@MartinSojka I hope this is hilarious when Google translates it...

@MartinSojka WTF
i dont understand that

(Any Germans dying of laughter right now are totally John Cleese's fault)

@OrigamiRobot Might be, not very common with french, it might very well be. I know that in french the "s" is silent though.

@JasonBerkan I hope you post the results so I can be lazy.

"The Funniest Joke in the World" is the title most frequently used for written references to a Monty Python's Flying Circus comedy sketch, which is also known by two other phrases that appear within it, "Joke Warfare" and "Killer Joke", the latter being the most commonly spoken title used to refer to it. The premise of the sketch is that the joke is so funny that anyone who reads or hears it promptly dies from laughter. Broadcast The sketch appeared in the first episode of the television show Monty Python's Flying Circus ("Whither Canada"), first shown on October 5, 1969. The sketch was ...

3:33 PM
@MartinSojka Oh, is that the one from the Monty Python sketch

In classical American films, villains typically have 3 different accents. British, Russian, and German. This is due to them being the enemies of the major wars we've fought/detente. Now, Middle Eastern accents are becoming more prevalent . . .

@MartinSojka I was pretty sure this was nonsense, so I'm glad to find out I was right.

> The joke contains a number of nonsensical pseudo-German words, and does not translate into anything meaningful.

@JasonBerkan :(

My hovercraft is full of eels!

3:34 PM
Half of Belgium is french speaking, so french written names are not uncommon, and there's also the history of being rules by a french speaking nobles, until some crazies got out and killed them.

Apparently my friend in FF 14 has decided I have to be the healer.

@JasonBerkan Check out the languages in Star Wars some times. They used a bunch of words from Tibetan and Thai, and even lifted entire Buddhist liturgical passages out of context for some of the speech used in Jabba's palace.

@Frank Do you get to heal people by stabbing them?

The Bruges Matins or Brugse Metten was the nocturnal massacre of the French garrison in Bruges by the members of the local Flemish militia on 18 May 1302. It has been named "matins" in analogy to the Sicilian Vespers. The revolt led to the Battle of the Golden Spurs, which saw the Flemish militia defeat French troops on 11 July 1302. History Bruges had had the exclusive rights for the importation of sheep's wool from England. This trade was in the hands of the bourgeois but when Edward I began to deal directly with the customers, the traders lost their advantage. The traders and their po...

@GraceNote Out of context, that is a REALLY funny statement.

3:35 PM
@GraceNote Hope so.

@Frank Then I guess it's fine. You get to stab people either way.

Q: If the father dies before his child is born, will it lose all claims?

atticaeI had a strange situation yesterday: One of my courtiers had a strong claim on an Irish county. I married him to one of my daughters, so I would sooner or later be able to get someone of my dynasty on their throne (or whatever the count equivalent for that is). Then, the courtier died without gi...

Q: Stuck on Path of Go Bridge Keeper Chapter IV

uosɐſThis poster was stuck in the same place. This is the board image made by the other posters. The game/puzzle begins without the numbered stones. I've tried many many games and with the Komi of 6.5 (iirc) the best I can do is to lose by 0.5. All attempts start at B5. Then one path is to make...

@Wandang nope, completely serious
84 minutes...

@DavidM When Lucas has an original idea, I'll eat my hat.

@GraceNote Technically, I'm a magic user, so I don't really do any stabbing, anyways.

3:37 PM
@Lazers All these Crusader Kings question titles always seem off-topic until you realize they're part of game-play! c.f. "How do I chose a good babysitter?"

@Frank Does your magic stab into the target?

@JasonBerkan Just ask Akira Kurosawa! At least John Sturges, and Sergio Leone had the balls to admit they were ripping him off!

@GraceNote Probably not.

@Lazers This is actually an interesting historical question as well (with a rather complex answer boiling down to "it depends").

@MartinSojka Time to ask on History Stack Exchange

3:38 PM
@MartinSojka The game must have a distinctive path for this, though? I would hope . . .
But, yes, historically, I agree. Very complex!

@DavidM Yes, but it's been a while since I played and there have been like 20 major patches in the meantime ...

CK2 is a historical strategy game :p

@kalina That's too many minutes to be keeping track.

@OrigamiRobot I started at 240 minutes

Well, in the 18 minutes it took me to create a party in M&M X and then actually talk to two NPCs, it looks like the game has potential.

3:40 PM
80 minutes

@kalina Way too long.

wow that sketch was really nice :D

I prefer to think things like "30 minutes until an hour from time to leave."

I started a countdown to D3's release about 5 million seconds before the actual release.

@MartinSojka Who is the photo in your avatar?

3:41 PM
@Sterno Stop making me want to buy it.

@StrixVaria now that was a disappointment

@DavidM One of my great-grandfathers.

are you getting the expansion?
79 minutes

@kalina Yes.
D3 wasn't everything I wanted, but it was still fun for a long time for me.

did you already get it?

3:41 PM
Of course he is. He has to pack in as much gaming time as possible now, before his kid is born.

or are you getting it nearer to release?

@MartinSojka Nice! I'm a big fan of antique photography, and it caught my eye.

well, D3 wasn't everything I wanted

@kalina Nope. Not sure how far in advance I'll get it.

but it wasn't the worst game I'd played that year

3:42 PM
It really don't make a difference.

I still can't find my Blizzard authenticator. :(

(cough Mass Effect 3 ending cough)

Mar 21 '12 at 21:26, by StrixVaria
Exactly 4.7 megaseconds until Diablo 3!

I can't even use Blizzard authenticator

I still have my authenticator app installed on all of my devices
I might even have an active WoW account at the moment

3:42 PM
@kalina I should get to buying it, I can buy it for 25 euros. (I have two coupon codes for -15 euro)

@Sterno Then he can play in between listening to "What Does the Fox Say?"

I'm not getting the expansion because they're basically making playing online pointless.

@kalina You're a bad person and should feel bad.

@kalina You're not going to check. And you're not going to play WoW again.

@DavidM That's not antique. It's part of a group photo from the end of 1920/beginning 1930, with four of his colleagues from the Polish rail company. Not even 100 years old.

3:43 PM
@Sterno no
@FEichinger you're not my real dad
77 minutes

@kalina My reply to this would be inappropriate for the Bridge.

@OrigamiRobot I like the gameplay and that's supposed to be improved in the expansion, and I like self-found and that's also supposed to be improved in the expansion.
I don't like that they removed goals for certain kinds of players, but at least my playstyle still works.

Even the console version was a step up from the PC version

@StrixVaria are you going to roll a new character or resume an existing one?

@MartinSojka It's an actual photograph printed on paper. That's not that young for a photograph, either. It's not say a callotype, or daguerreotype, etc.

3:44 PM
Fuckin librarians! It's a question about a particular puzzle in a video game. — uosɐſ 40 secs ago

@FEichinger Barring NSFW images, there is very little that is inappropriate on the Bridge so I'm appropriately terrified of your reply.

Sometimes, no matter how nice you are...

omg

@StrixVaria I don't like finding amazing items I have no use for an being forced to simply salvage them.

@kalina I'm going to make a Crusader right away and play that to 70.

3:45 PM
"asalted peanut"

That has nothing to do with self-found.

After that I have no plans yet. We'll see how much fun it is to level new characters.

@StrixVaria are you going to be playing weird hours?

Hmm

@StrixVaria They're killing the different difficulties, so that's a good thing.

3:46 PM
How can I play a podcast in the background on this Android device?

@kalina I'll probably be playing from like 7-8PM for a few hours at night, my time. (EST)

when I switch out of chrome it just stops

Nothing crazy.

No more mind numbing replaying the whole game three times.

I'm not taking a week off work like I did for the initial D3 launch.

3:46 PM
@StrixVaria what is EST in a real time zone?
-8?

I would even like it if you had the option for a character to be completely split off from your other characters, so it has to do everything itself, and so it can't live of the gold from a previous one.

@StrixVaria Having kids is like perpetually playing a video game where your NPCs are trying to get themselves in trouble. And, they need tons of attention, maintenance, money, etc. just to keep them going.

@kalina -5

oh eastern

@DavidM So more like The Sims or Dwarf Fortress then?

3:47 PM
Timezones are confusing.

all of my characters are on EU you see

Stop voting to close that as off-topic

@kalina Oh true.

if I were going to play with Arqade people I'd need to reroll on US

It's about a puzzle in a video game

3:47 PM
@MartinSojka Sort of. Except the Sims have rarely peed on my floor.

Whenever someone uses something that's not UTC/GMT, I'll be thinking if the E stands for Eastern or European

Well all existing items are going to be worthless post-expansion anyway.

@DavidM There might be a mod for that ...

So essentially everyone has a mandatory re-roll.

I would have no issues with rerolling, I'd just rather not play it by myself if I did

3:48 PM
I'll be playing fairly consistently for at least a few weeks after launch.

What game are you all talking about?

OK. Checking out. See everyone later.

D3 expansion.

Diablo 3 expansion
@DavidM o/

@Sterno Depends on the video game in my opinion. Having never played The Path of Go, I don't know if it's just a board game in video game form (Microsoft Solitaire, Freecell, etc.) or not.

3:49 PM
@StrixVaria Sounds dull

@fredley so does your face

@Yuki From his question (plus some extra reading to verify), it sounds like the part he's stuck on is the game starting with the board in a certain configuration
It's basically a puzzle unique to the game. Sure, he could get a better answer from Go experts, but it's very on-topic here.

70 minutes

@Sterno Actually, having boards in certain configurations is a relatively common exercise among Go players.

@Sterno I pulled my close vote.

3:51 PM
In fact, like chess, it's how many people learn to play the game.

Just because questions would be better elsewhere doesn't make them off-topic here.

And considering how long Go has been around and there are literally hundreds of Go puzzle books, I can say with almost 100% certainty that the puzzle is not unique to the game.

@fredley no

@Sterno Specific board game strategies are off-topic here though.

3:52 PM
back later, reactivating my WoW account
10 months later...
I'm back guys, hey!

@Yuki Good choice.

The question is, do we solicit questions about Freecell, Solitaire, or online Monopoly?

@kalina Don't you dare.
@Yuki We have a meta about that.
Somewhere ...

@Yuki ...why not?

@Sterno And yet we close a lot of questions about gaming hardware and migrate some to SU, I believe.

3:53 PM
Rather than arguing in chat with each other, we can all just read this and add new arguments as appropriate

Q: Does this site support the computerized versions of board games?

C. RossDoes this site support the computerized versions of board games? Computer mahjong, computer chess, etc? I'm asking because Board and Card Games is debating here whether they will support them. Their current stance is: In my opinion, if the online version of the boardgame is still really l...

@Sterno That's the one!

In essence, if it's a puzzle specific to a game, we can help with that. If they're looking for more general strategies about the game itself, that's BCG's purview.

The counter argument is that it's not like I could be successful in the current D3 economy so it's not like it would be a step down.

63 minutes

Looks like this one's specific to the game, so sounds like a keeper.

3:57 PM
I'm all for pointing them at where they'll get a better answer. I just thinking closing as off-topic is the wrong move.

@kalina 17 minutes. :P

@FEichinger 0 minutes! Yay for not having a job anymore!

@kalina negative minutes. I stayed home today!

tests implementation of fire over IP on @FEichinger

@Yuki Woo! Jobless buddies!

@Sterno what does the fox say?

@kalina Doesn't work.

@FEichinger :(

Seems legit.

@kalina The Standard hasn't been defined yet, I'm sorry.

3:59 PM
@kalina It says, "Goddammit, stop asking me what I say? It's getting really, really old!"
@GnomeSlice Seriously.

If that's meant to troll me, it doesn't work. It makes me think of my daughter giggling and dancing to it.

actually wait
maybe I shouldn't post that

sigh, @GnomeSlice

Jenna Marbles isn't even a musician.

I missed the flag :( Was it dumb?

3:59 PM
yes

It wasn't that bad.

@GnomeSlice being @GnomeSlice

@OrigamiRobot @GnomeSlice posting yet another image of a woman showing off her cleavage.
