:O
@journeymangeek needs to review one of these.
@nhinkle: if someone can hook me up with one, oh hell yes
At the moment I'm apparently not allowed to buy hardware again ;p
god that is beautiful, and not too bad if shipping wouldn't rape my wallet
damn it people ;p
07:51
Try shooting jeff an email. Link to some of your previous epic keyboard posts on SU and the SU Blog. Maybe ask if he might be able to get you one at-cost. He's been pretty generous to the SU community in the past.
08:36
@nhinkle: My dad's been complaining we have too much stuff again
thats a bigger worry for me ;p
I'll probably buy one (and review it somewhere!) once I get a job
09:37
@nhinkle Damn, that thing looks attractive
My Razer makes a ton of noise
lol
I think thats not a bad thing
I'd assume quieter keyboards have better co-worker acceptance factor
(but we've used crappy, noisy keyboards so far, and the other razer we got was well recieved)
(tho, the switches he uses has both silent keys and tactile bumps, which is awesome)
10:37
@JourneymanGeek My razer has a couple of buttons that seem to get stuck a bit
perhaps I should check out their springs or something
@IvoFlipse: the 'bigger' buttons?
like shift and ctrl?
No something weird like F10, which I use for IntelliJ
@IvoFlipse: I'd try removing the key ;p
my BW is getting a full key-removal and cleanup once I get my cheap key removal tool
Can you just flip them off with a screwdriver or something?
some guy just uses a plastic card
that seems simple enough
I could, but a proper tool will be easier when you're carefully yanking out over a hundred keys ;p
less chance of stabbing myself
if its a single key, I'd probably use an old or fake credit card
(I think with the last one, I used "Your Name Here" 's credit card. I hope he didn't mind!)
mine is ok, a combination of cyberclean (which is getting harder to get) and an air duster gets most of it off. I just need to get want to give the keys a quick rinse
11:29
$150 for a friggin keyboard?
I thought Apple's hardware was expensive…
actually thats reasonably priced
they are a LOT more complex than a membrane or even a scissor switch
What's the benefit? I mean, my keyboard is quiet and I find it easy to type on, why would I spend so much money on that?
@slhck: I find its a lot easier to type on, and faster
Hmm. Guess it's not for everyone then :)
If you're happy with chicklet keys, no
Its a bit like comparing an audi or a mercedes to a toyota
both get you there, but one's more expensive and fancier
11:32
haha
its also got nice eats, better dashboard stuff, better features...

6 hours later…
17:22
@KronoS I saw a link to the Trello board here, and was interested in seeing what is in the works. I'm most interested in contributing to the SU blog; I started my own website about a year ago, but have kind of slacked on it lately... Any excuse to get me writing again is good, right? :D

3 hours later…
20:04
Ya of course @Breakthrough. What ideas do you have in mind? What do you need to get going?

3 hours later…
22:43
@KronoS well, +

Finally, full disclosure: come September, I'm back in school (grad student) who is also working as a TA and on my thesis :)
lol
@Breakthrough: I know what thats like, took me over a year to get started on my blog ;p
@KronoS whups, sorry. sent the last message before it was done.

I was thinking about maybe some computer vision stuff, but again, I want to peruse the Trello board to get a sense of the depth/scope you're looking for.
lol @JourneymanGeek did you just give up and go with WP like me?
@Breakthrough: Just curious, and I'm not wet blanketting or anything, but how would the average power user use computer vision?
@Breakthrough: I'm not a coder, so yeah, I did ;p
I was using a wiki before
This is true.
Heh, sorry I feel all scatterbrained since September is literally next week :S
(so far I've written an article on keyboards and one on VHD booting. I have a 3 parter on audio thats being worked on ;p)
22:47
I could expand on this or this, but I assume you want to stick to more recent topics, ja?
actually either of those would be interesting IMO
I only mentioned them because they do follow my line of research ATM
Any way I can just peruse the Trello board to get a sense of what people are working on>
you'd need to sign up methinks
I haven't been there in a while :/
My current hobbyist line of research is pretty hard to write about
That being?? :D
(sorry gotta run in like 5 mins)
@Breakthrough: I'm messing with a few obscure OSes ;p
OS/2 and haiku ;p
22:53
Heh, nice... I've actually read about Haiku before.
Never tried it though.
Haiku is brilliant
So I've heard :)
SERIOUSLY fast boot times, and great performance
and they're a lot further ahead than most of the other 'clone' type OSes
I can't even get ROS to install on virtualbox :/
:(
That's just the way she goes I guess.
yeah
and they keep losing devs or getting sidetracked by drama
22:55
lol oh one of THOSE...
Losing Alex Ionescu a couple of years back was pretty bad
(he works for Solomon Associates IIRC)
so there was a conflict of interest
then they wasted 2 years on a code audit cause someone accused them of using stolen win2k code
which was BS
Due diligence is key.
Heh I remember Y2K testing my machine lol
Ok sorry I gotta run, TTYL :D\
