8:00 PM
Do you play games @Mokubai?

Yep :)

what games?
because else I could use your help on Gaming ;P
oh and if anyone has any questions for yhw42 --> check my interview in the sidebar

Was just considering how I want to stress test my graphics card this evening, shall it be a bit of Crysis for a light roasting, a bit of Monkey Islands 2 for some old skool
Allsorts really, mainly FPSes and a few randoms...
@IvoFlipse Anything in particular?

What would be the goal of stress testing? Testing stability or have you been messing with the gpu?

I just like making it work...

8:04 PM
if you have any informative Super Userish posts that would help Gamers with their computer, that would be interesting

turn all the sliders in the game up to maximum

it doesn't work? writing a post about troubleshooting your GPU is interesting
is there anything you yourself can do to 'improve' the performance then?
to squeeze out more performance that is

It does work, I just mean make it work hard, as in actually using it :)

what kind of GPU is it?

It's an nVidia GTS 240, pretty tame by todays standards, and an OEM card to boot, but it does a fine job.

8:08 PM
@IvoFlipse @Mokubai when should we schedule the 64-bit article?

@KronoS I'd say when we can come up with a good title, I'm stumped with that bit...

so what can you do to make it perform better? ;P
"Why you should forget about 32 bit and move on"

Ooooh, nice
@IvoFlipse me likey

how bout: "32-bit is for grannies"

Q: Basic User Poll of Upcoming Game Interests - Iteration the First

Grace NoteYes, this is in relation to our Community Promotion Grant. If you have not read about it, please consult that link before you return here. ♪ If you're remotely interested in the opportunity to participate in this endeavor, then I'd like you to post a response to this question with the following ...

8:13 PM
@IvoFlipse There's always overclocking, but I'd prefer the graphics card lived a long and fruitful life than died in a blaze of glory... Disabling Aero helps a bit, which you can set in the game executables properties so that it is disabled when the game starts and re-enabled on exit... Console to PC ports suck balls, but dans data did a post or two on that (after I sent him an email about that kind of thing grrrrrrr)
@KronoS lol
@IvoFlipse I have no rep on gaming.se, I lurk there occasionally to see where things are heading, but am not active...

that's not a problem @Mokubai, you've already proven you can blog about things you like
that counts
plus you are somewhat forced to start asking or answer questions if you would get a game

true :)

A post about tweaking Windows for squeezing out performance is nice

Game Booster @IvoFlipse

@KronoS I'd seen that, is it any good?

8:23 PM
that does a good job

I wouldn't know never felt the need :P
played Wow for 2 years, that didn't need it
only low pings

@Mokubai ya it does actually.. nothing like spectacular but squeezes a little extra out

@IvoFlipse what realm(s)?

I've never played WOW

Eonar mostly, I switched to there when I hit 70

8:26 PM
I'm always suspicious of performance enhancing programs, granted they may do some good things, but the majority just seem to be snake oil

@Mokubai what do you mean?

@IvoFlipse dang, I'm mostly on Aerie Peak

this one shuts down all unnecessary processes and checks for drivers updates

well I don't dare to pick it up again honestly

flushes memory etc,.

8:27 PM
@KronoS Just that most programs promise a lot and deliver very little in the way that the OS doesn't already do better
@IvoFlipse It is dangerous, it sucks you in...

Well this one does an ok job... I notice a difference when playing on my lappy

I played as much if not more time on WoW as on grad school @Mokubai
perhaps it would be fun to review @Mokubai
I'll pay for the license

@IvoFlipse you mean Game Booster? It's free

what's the difference with their pro-version?
I didn't know it was from the company behind: Advanced System Essential
I liked that program
someone should review that as well

WoW or Game Booster? ;)

8:30 PM
@IvoFlipse I used to use Advanced System Care... it was a great program
I'm willing to do a review...

indeed

Isn't Game Booster free?

but I'm kinda busy :(

I'm willing to sponsor, though we could first ask them off course :)

emailing right now
To whom it may concern,

The editors at Super User Blog (blog.superuser.com) would like to do a review on your professional version of the Advanced System Essentials software packages. As a long term user of the free version of both Advanced System Care and Game Booster I would like to spread the word to our followers about your products. We were looking to see what options we have in obtaining a license of Advanced System Essential for a review on our blog. Feel free to email back with any questions.
what do you think? @IvoFlipse @Mokubai

8:36 PM
Sounds good :)

sent

@KronoS Soz, cat wanted to play, sounds good to me. :)

oooo check this out

@KronoS That looks pretty neat, might try that at work...
Well, they look like they've got some pretty solid software so if you can't do it @KronoS then I'm happy to pick up slack...

8:44 PM
awesome
So @IvoFlipse gaming needs blog people too?

yeah I need more writers
even one post biweekly would be of great help
or a diary in a couple posts

where's the cat?
@Mokubai where'd you find that?

@IvoFlipse can I get funded for one of these:

@IvoFlipse Are you the blog organiser for Stackexchange now?
@KronoS drool me want
Just think how awesome Assassins Creed would be on that wall of monitors

8:54 PM
@IvoFlipse I would settle for just this...
you'd only have to get me two more :P

evening @nhinkle
@KronoS then its cheaper to get myself a third one :P

oh snap! just lost that battle
actually it'd be interesting to see a 3d gaming blog post

@IvoFlipse If you want I'm happy to look at reviewing a few games and bits for gaming if you'd like.
@KronoS That would be pretty neat, been wondering what 3d gaming was like

@Mokubai I just want to see these blogs happen, so I make it happen

Fair enough

8:57 PM
but some of the gaming users are slackers and don't want the responsibility

lol
gamers want to game, news at 11 :D

because I also want a blog for Fitness and slap some Programmer users while I'm at it

does gaming have a blog already?

here you go @IvoFlipse you could use this for @Wil :P

8:59 PM

lol

good afternoon @ivo

I've always wanted to review a game in this style:

make a comic like that?

Sort of make a comedic diary of going through the game...

9:10 PM
well if you take a bunch of screenshots, it should be doable
that would do well on Reddit if the text is funny enough ;P

9:20 PM

@IvoFlipse gaming and SU joint blog post: Why a huge SSD is great for gamers...
@KronoS I loved that one :)

haha you want me to buy you a 240 gb drive?

;)
I've got a friend with (I think) a pair of SSDs and when we play L4D2 going through a saferoom loading screen he's generally loaded the next level, healed 1 (sometimes 2) people in the time it takes my 2 x 1TB RAID0 drives to load...
and healing takes like 10-15 seconds...

@Mokubai having two raided SSD's is sweet

@IvoFlipse But no. One day the SSD goodness will be mine, one day... gazes meaningfully into the distance
My games directory is like 300GB...

9:27 PM
he he

Yeah, wth happened to that machine?!?!
@KronoS You haz teh RAID SSD goodnezz?

you can use junction points perhaps, to load data from the SSD when you want to play a certain game @Mokubai ;P
@LucasMcCoy any ideas for a new post?

Hmmm, maybe an SSD game / junction organiser type program...
Ah, my short memory is short, I'd forgotten you did all the SSD testing :) @KronoS

:) @Mokubai

9:32 PM
@IvoFlipse I was thinking about doing a post on pianobar. It's a terminal Pandora client for Mac/Linux.
I recompiled mine so that I don't even have to type my username/password.

hey @IvoFlipse what's the deal with this:
It would help if you links didn't expire @RaymondeAnesSNV Let Dell tweet me if they want me to test anything for the #SuperUserBlog

@IvoFlipse If dell want you to test a Dell Streak, I'm your man ;)
Anyway, sleep.
G'night all.

l8rs @Mokubai

I think it's a scammer @KronoS
tried the link, but it didn't work :P
nice @LucasMcCoy, too bad I can't use Pandora
anyway, I need to come to bed
I'll see you guys tomorrow
go make a draft @LucasMcCoy ;)

Will do! :)

9:46 PM
@IvoFlipse makes sense

10:35 PM
Hey @IvoFlipse @KronoS

OZC just sent me an email saying they'll send me an SSD :)
