I missed exactly what's going on this petition
and who's involved
Summary? (while I write the code)
sure
So, it's a petition from "the Ubuntu community" (as in everyone that identifies with it in any way, no need to be a member of this or that), directed to japanese LoCo, and exteding to the japanese people
this is what it looks like at the moment:
petition against them?
petition, I don't know why I used that word just then
A letter of support I mean
Oh
haha okay :D
@MarcoCeppi declaration!!!
22:50
To our friends, the Men, Women, and Families of the Japanese Loco Team,

We would like to send our heartfelt support and condolences to those affected by the terrible earthquake and tsunami, and to the families and friends of all who are suffering.

Our thoughts are with the people of Japan and the members of the Japanese Loco Team during this difficult time.

As part of a global community connected by a belief in humanity towards others, we share your sorrow, and join our hope with yours as you work to overcome this disaster.

of support
Easy enough should be done in about 20 minutes
↑ real rock-star yet again
Guys got a logo at all?
or a name for this - I could try to grab a domain really quickly
mh... let's think
Most of the stuff I can think of sounds pias and patronising :\
22:56
Okyakusama Japan LoCo
sounds very good to me, but we should check with an expert
if we're going to speak japanese :)
@MarcoCeppi Keep thinking of the Kobayashi Maru
Jun Kobayashi is the head of the LoCo
iff I understand the meaning correctly, I like Okyakusama Japan LoCo a lot
@StefanoPalazzo Customers? Members!!
Should be something like (we) love Japan LoCo
23:02
I thought it means something like "guest to your [somewhat corporate thing]"
I don't speak Japanese - I just used Google
@all Got to go guys :( Keep me posted all my contact stuff is on my profile
of course @Allan, bye
Okay, this is really dirty. Not sure how soon you need it
@MarcoCeppi We don't have any pressure to get it out quickly, we can take our time
23:12
Okay - my offer still stands - if you can think of a good domain I'll be able to register it
I have a ton of domain names (like hour45.com) that I can also lend - ilmbsr.com is another ambiguous domain
that's brilliant
Also - you might want to find ways to donate to the disaster relief efforts - could add those to the page so people can learn how to help
that may be difficult, not sure
many of those organisations are entangled in some community, we can't be responsible for associating "Ubuntu" with any one of them, unless they're very neutral
Ah, good point
However, I'm not sure we can legally use the "Ubuntu" name if not sanctioned by Canonical
Could say "From a few concerned members of the Ubuntu Community"
right, that's the plan
actually, at the moment we don't say anything of that sort. We only direct it towards the japanese loco, anyone can sign
23:19
ah, k
Okay, the front page is done. Needs a bit of CSS magic though
just need to make the admin side of things
looking into it, there seem to be no disaster relief foundations which are both neutral in religious and cultural identification, and well known to be reliable and efficient.
No red-cross relief effort?
I wouldn't be comfortable with the red cross
with it being religious and all, ideally it'd be something completely neutral
I'm not sure we really need a donation method through this letter of support.
People will have plenty of chance to donate in the next few days.
There are bound to be TV campaigns etc.
good point
23:28
I think we should focus on giving what moral support we can.
so, how do you like the letter so far?
I have no opinion - I'm not a wordsmith :)
I think it is good.
Short and to the point
nice
as you can see by the colours, it was a real time effort
didn't know you could write a letter like that
23:35
Okay, I'm putting my efforts on ilmbsr.com for now - I need to run a few errands. I'll be back in about an hour
4
right, take your time, I'll have to be awake for the next few hours anyway
I envision a really light light light grey
500 px wide centered
some top padding
and then something cool with the signatures
Be back in a bit
