@MBraedley So I think the james webb is officially at the point of not going to crash and burn, and it has a 20 year lifespan to boot.
Still 6 months before it does any SCIENCE! though.

2 hours later…
1:46 AM
Well shit, that was swag
Last runner of the kingdom hearts race surprised everyone by beating the final boss blindfolded.

2:19 AM
Oh shit, are they doing NG Shadows?
This should be really interesting

Q: My framerate in Feed The Beast: Endeavour is awful, even though my PC is good. What can I do about this?

NewbyteI have a decent enough PC (8 GB of RAM, i5 6600K, Radeon RX 570) that should be able to handle Feed The Beast: Endeavour fine, but my FPS jumps around between 5 to 10 FPS. What can I do about this?

RE8 run was really good

4:38 AM
> The Oceanian Data Center, which we've been planning for some time, will be opening approximately two weeks earlier than scheduled. This may be a little sudden, but we'll be bringing it online on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 (JST).

Additionally, taking into account the current number of players in Oceania, the original plan was to initially add three Worlds and later introduce two more. In light of the recent influx of players, however, we've decided to add five new Worlds from the start. With this, there should be more than enough room for everyone in Oceania to transfer over. Those in Ocea
not sure where they got it but someone in the Free Company i'm in has shared the names aswell
Bismarck
Ravana
Sephirot
Sophia
Zurvan
apparently Sephirot is the name of one of the Waring Triad from 6
excluding Bismarck i don't recall the other names (except Ravana but not from Final Fantasy) so i assume 2 of them are the other 2 of the Triad. never knew they were given names

yeah, the other two are from the triad
incidentally, all those names are from primals encountered in heavensward

5:22 AM
last time i played 6 i don't think i ever learned what the name of the Triad were, assuming they are revealed in 6 and not supplementary material
i just remember that some of the bosses in Kefka's Tower seems to look similar to the statues of the Triad, not that the boss names were anything like those because 1 was named Goddess

I'm really happy to see how successful ff14 is doing, even if I don't play it myself anymore. The devs really deserve the success. They're extremely passionate.
I wish the Hades race wasn't so late
Dark souls race is probably the first run I'll catch today

3:25 PM
@Wipqozn aw, but endwalker is so great. it's also a good point to stop playing ffxiv since it wraps the story of the last several years

3:35 PM
@Memor-X Apparently someone recently started a beta for a gacha that would use anime faces gan generation for units.

@SPArcheon sounds like an NFT Generator

It's only an nft generator if the end result looks terrible

found.
> A NEW CHARACTER ENGINE
Experience the character system powered by the latest advancements in machine learning. Customize your unique units by fusing them with others. Discover units that no one has ever seen.

@Unionhawk i've seen RPG Maker 2003 Faceset Generators
same facing as those apes, solid background and if you automate it, will generate lots of variations

@Yuuki Honestly my biggest problem is I tried to power through the FF14 original MSQ in order to prepare for the first expansion, and the MSQ is so fucking terrible I just completely burnt out.
Also when I ddi that all my friends had stopped playing at that point.
We were all playing for a few months... then pretty much all stopped

3:43 PM
@Memor-X far better than things like pixray

then ca month before the first expansion I started playing again, and tried to power through the MSQ... but main, they were so fucking terrible. way too many of them.

lucky attempt : cat near tree

I hear they made it a bit better, and the MSQ of the expansions have been better... but man, that base one just had SO. MUCH. FILLER... and everything was locked behind it.

not so lucky "siamese cat near tree"

@Wipqozn yeah, ARR MSQ is a slog. honestly, i have considered recommending the story skips to people, at least for ARR

3:52 PM
@Yuuki Sadly they didn't exist when I powered trough it. plus I was far enough through it by the time the expansion was announced it seemed like a waste.
basically I think they ANNOUNCED the skip by the time I returned to power through, but I figured "why bother" or somethjing
but man, the post ARR pre HS stuff is as long if not longer than the ARR stuff

@Yuuki Everyone I know of who used a story skip regretted it later on, because FFXIV has SO MUCH setup in the ARR and HW content. Pretty much every named NPC who you meet and survives ends up being relevant in some form or another later on

@Nzall yeah you'd want to watch videos online or something
or just not care
see I didn't care enough about the story to begin with. It was solid enough, but not amazing... especially when there was so. much. fucking. filler. in between the actual sotry parts that were relevant and interesting.

It's like telling someone to skip the first 4 books of Wheel of Time

@Nzall I, for one, strongly recommend skipping the first 4books of Wheel of Time (followed by all the other books, since I didn't like WoT)

"This is a remake, you can play it without knowing the original"
cit. FF7Remake

3:59 PM
@Wipqozn beat me to it

Apparently Troy Baker has gotten onto the NFT scamtram. People can buy the rights to his voice and have him say anything through an AI

@SPArcheon There's an invite button on the panel, and he's recently been active

just to see the reaction to the suggestion above.... :P

@SPArcheon I was super close to dragging him in here with a superping haha
As in, with my original message haha

4:17 PM
@Nzall i mean, they're mentioned but not to any degree that a short summary wouldn't be adequate.
the thing is, if ARR's pacing is what's stopping someone from continuing with FFXIV, i'd rather they miss a few references and continue on because the other expansions have excellent writing

4:45 PM
about the most important section of post-ARR content is the last arc
plus, if you get the story skip, you can just NG+ the actual important parts of ARR that you skipped

@Wipqozn Boo hiss.
:-P

@Randal'Thor <3

I recommend skipping [your favourite video game], followed by all the other video games.
Which is why I'm not a member of this site.
(What are video games anyway?)

it's that thing you used to do for years at a time while waiting for the next wheel of time book to come out

5:01 PM
@Yuuki This hits too close to home for me because I'm a fan of ASOIAF and Kingkiller Chronicles
@Randal'Thor You sure showed me! I'll never recover.

at this point, i'm like 60-70% sure that there won't be another asoiaf book. my guess is that the got tv series had the main gist of what martin has planned and the overall negative reaction is getting him to second-guess himself

@Randal'Thor haah yes. I love this comic.
I've seen it before. IT's eprfect.
@Yuuki I think we'll see TWOW eventually, but not ADOS.

Totally.
But such an in-joke: how many people would even get what it means?

@Randal'Thor Nerds like us
So you're in the right place

5:05 PM
You'd need to have read the Mistborn trilogy and be passingly familiar with all three of those writers.

@Yuuki Also, I don't think we;ll ever see Doors of Stone

I've never read any Rothfuss, but I've heard that I should.

There should be a third panel of him hiding one near Jim Butcher's house, but whenever Jim has to move because of a divorce he has to scram to relocate it

Ditto Stephen King: the Dark Tower is on my to-read-if-I-ever-get-time list.

@Randal'Thor not Mistborn, but Stormlight Archives. Mistborn is metals

5:06 PM
@Randal'Thor It's good, but I don't think we'll ever see the third book in the trilogy. Although the books main character is the most mary sue to ever mary sue.

Stormlight Archives is Shards

@Nzall I was thinking of Hemalurgic spikes from Mistborn.

i liked the first book of dresden files and kinda soured on the rest. codex alera was also interesting

Haven't read Stormlight Archives.

@Nzall Shards is actually everything.
shards are the actual source of magic the "gods" use
and are the gods themselves
and stuff

5:08 PM
@Yuuki Dresden gets way better in later books. His second book is generally considered the weakest of the lot

so mistborn introduced them first, although I can't remember how much they actually introduced

in The Reading Room, Feb 18 '21 at 22:38, by Rand al'Thor
Sanderson is a hack.

@Nzall i think i read all the way up to 4 or 5
so it's not like i read 2 and decided i was done
dresden may get way better in later books, but it feels like butcher gets increasingly more misogynistic in later books too. there's an argument that "oh, that's just dresden's perspective" but it's not like butcher ever treats that as a character flaw or anything

@Randal'Thor Not even a controversial opinion, honestly. I enjoy his books, but they're really like the "Marvel" of books. Fun books, with a interconnected universe, but whose characters a little swallow. Also action heavy.
Now if you insult Robin Hobb we'd be fighting by the flag pole at recess

it's been a long time since i read dresden files though, so my recollection is likely hazy

5:11 PM
@Yuuki I feel like he does. Dresden himself even comments sometimes on how he sees it as a flaw in himself
And it's gotten him in trouble more than once

@Wipqozn It's his writing style that I object to, although I'm told he's improved since Mistborn. Constant repetition of certain words (like "pause"), often stilted dialogue, character interactions that don't feel realistic.
All the respect for his interconnected universe though.

@Randal'Thor yeah prose and characters aren't his strong points at all

He's great at creating big plots, not so good at the word/sentence level.

Altough they have improved since mistborn

Needs to hire a ghostwriter to write the stuff according to the plots he dictates.

5:14 PM
really for me, you read his books because you like the sanderson plot avalanche and the interconnected univere

Although he'd probably write faster than his ghostwriter.
@Wipqozn Jordan, on the other hand - I can understand criticisms of his characters (constantly calling each other woolheads and gender-stereotyping each other), but he's fantastic at building up an atmosphere in a medium-length piece of prose like a few pages or a chapter.

@Randal'Thor TUGS ON BRAID
I read the firest 5 books of WoT before I stopped.
Just wasn't for me at all

That typo fits, as you read up to the fires of heaven.
But yeah, the first 5 books is enough to know whether you'll like the rest or not. If you'd stopped after the first 1 or 2, I might say you didn't get a feel for the whole story/world yet.
The end of book 6 is fantastic though.

I read the first 3 or 4 books, started the next one, but then life got in the way
I did read the entire Sword of Truth series though, including the sequels involving zombies, and the first 2 books of the spinoff series involving Nicci and Nathan
Haven't read the third book in the spinoff series, nor The First Confessor
though there is some stuff in the second book in that spin off series that's so contrived
With a bit of Deus Ex Machina thrown in when certain characters show up just in time

6:17 PM
in GDQ races they really should have like the splits of the runners if they run the same path... Would really help if you have no clue about the game to know whos in front
or have more trackers like randomisers, to know how far they are
like the DS run coming up, they are on different routes... if I flip my attention between them, how am i supposed to know where the second guy is at?

6:31 PM
@Fredy31 They should really have a boss counter or tracker for each runner

yeah would also help the people coming in late
like the yugioh run... if you came 15 minutes late how the hell would you know where they are at

It's really interesting to see them running different routes

6:48 PM
@SaintWacko I agree, but it does make it harder to follow if you're not familiar.
Luckily I'm very familiar with souls
A counter would still be helpful. They do it for randomizes, so they have the technology.
I think they've each taken a death now

7:32 PM
I stepped away for a bit. Did Dan ever kill gargoyles?
@Batophobia Fancy
Did regole forget four king's? Haha
Stepped away again. A tracker would be nice haha

7:58 PM
@Wipqozn Oh for sure, I had no idea what ws going on lol

8:10 PM
@Batophobia yeah its been for a few years pretty sure

2 hours later…
9:47 PM
Just passed 1.6 mill
They're on pace for another record breaking total

1 hour later…
10:57 PM
If they hit stepmania, which they probably will, there's a solid chance they might hit 2 mill tonight
Since that's be at 1.7 mill for stepmania

11:17 PM
Pretty huge gap in the Pokémon race. Seems to be a combination of bad luck, slower version, and a slightly slower runner.
Probably going to be a 5 minutes difference? Which is pretty close to their gap on the leaderboards too
