Q: Need help getting multiplayer to work correctly in COD: Modern Warfare 2

johnnyb1970My friend and I recently downloaded COD:MW2 and were able to connect when on his LAN and play several games. It was great. But then we weren't able to connect anymore, even when still on his LAN. I don't remember what changed--whether one of us restarted or just disconnected from the game but we ...

Q: What are the positions of hereos/monsters if there are less than four of them?

felherFor every ability there is a graphical description explaining from what positions it can be used and what positions it can target. Those descriptions seem to assume 4 heroes/monsters. Given that there are only 1, 2 or 3 heroes/monsters, what positions are they on? For example: Can I target a...

Q: Chronological order of Gold Box games

Mr. Flay SepulcrastFrom 1988 to 1993 SSI released a series of computer role-playing games made with the Gold Box engine. I would like to know their chronological order of release. I know Pool of Radiance (1988) was first, followed by Curse of the Azure Bonds (1989), Champions of Krynn (1990) and Secret of the Sil...

@GodEmperorDune I just heard that One Day at a Time won't be renewed for a 4th season. I AM SO MAD
Okay, just bought Words of Radiance part 1 and 2, Elantris, warbreaker and the latest Alex Rider novel
They'll arrive at the place I chose around the 23rd of March
So the first book in Stormlight Archives took quite long to convince me. Didn't really get swayed by it until midway through part 4 of the internal division, when Kaladin learned about his Stormlight powers
but then it went really fast
@Nzall warbreaker is great.
@Wipqozn I did end up having a small panic moment when I checked the mail and thought I bought part 2 of WoR twice but in different formats, because apparently part 1 doesn't explicitly say so on the cover
21:22
Words of radiance is even better than book 1. By quite a lot, actually.
I'm not a fan of Elantris
I liked Elantris a lot, considerably more than anything else of his I've read, but am apparently the only person who does
Warbreaker was ok but it felt like it ended really abruptly, for like a day afterwards I was picking up my e-reader and being surprised it wasn't still showing Warbreaker.

I've realized that I like the idea of a lot of Sanderson in practice better than in reality
Same
I've kind of put him in the same bucket as, say, Niven -- lots of cool ideas, not great at execution. But that works better when your output consists of dozens of short stories each one showcasing one of those ideas than it does with 1000+ page doorstopper novels.
@Ash noooooooooooo
It doesn’t seem that expensive to produce, I wonder why they canceled it
user15026
@ToxicFrog Agreed.

We’ve made the very difficult decision not to renew One Day At A Time for a fourth season. The choice did not come easily — we spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work but in the end simply not enough people watched to justify another season.

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (3/14 in the month/day format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π. In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day.Pi Approximation Day is observed on July 22 (22/7 in the day/month format), since the fraction 22⁄7 is a common approximation of π, which is accurate to two decimal places and dates from Archimedes.Two Pi Day, also known as Tau Day, is lightly observed on June 28 (6/28 in the month/day format). == History == In 1988...

Q: How do you detect the death of a custom mob (I made it using Minecraft Tools)

A_Minecrafter_lolI'm trying to make an adventure map and for a boss fight, I spent a lot of time making a custom mob, and after I did that, I went looking for a command that would detect when the said mob dies, then triggering red stone or other command blocks, and I can't find out how, I've seen other videos wit...

could go on further to say that the peak of Pi Day the number of milliseconds after midnight represented by # numbers after the 4
@ToxicFrog I love Elantris, though it's not my favorite
22:30
@murgatroid99 have you read skyward?
yes. I thought it was good, but not his best work
i dont know as i have a favorite series/book from sanderson, but i like most of his work
even the ones that are very unlike the rest of his work such as Legion
Same, though I'm mainly a fan of the Cosmere books
22:54
I think the Mistborn series is probably still my favorite. It certainly has its weaknesses, and you can see that the improved his writing later, but the world building is very impressive
Though I also really like The Emperor's Soul, even though it's a short story
@MadScientist that was a good read
I was a bit disappointed by the third Stormlight Archives book, but that's maybe to some extent inevitable with this kind of epic series.
The Rithmatist is another one I really enjoyed, it's YA though. But it is a very different and creative magic system
@MadScientist i liked it overall, i was glad of how he handled Kaladin in the story
it wasn't bad, but it felt a bit off to me for some reason.
23:10
@MadScientist have you read the Mistborn: Secret History?
yes
there really isn't much I haven't read from Sanderson
user15026
23:22
I liked Mistborn a lot, but I've not liked much else of his. I feel like he's trying to like...tell stories in too big ways?
23:48
It's telling, I think, that when people are hyping Sanderson it's always the magic systems they talk about and not the story or the characters or the dialogue or the writing
And to me what this says is that I want to play games designed by Sanderson more than I want to read books by him
@ToxicFrog I like Sanderson because of his worldbuilding.
It hangs together so effortlessly.
user15026
@ToxicFrog That's what always gets me too
Excellent worldbuilding without an interesting story or compelling characters in it, though, brings me right back to "he should be writing games, or perhaps RPG splatbooks", though
user15026
I mean maybe it's just me and the sort of books i read a lot of and like, but yeah, without characters that are compelling or a good story....what's gonna hold my attention?
Like, I would legit read an entire splatbook about the Stormlight magic system and nations and politics and whatnot, but the actual Stormlight novels leave me completely cold.
