The rivalry never ends.
@GodEmperorDune I am not 100% sure that this person isn’t me and that’s not my sister.
The similarities are incredibly disturbing.

Q: Will I get the Walked The Path achievement if I complete a New Game+ playthrough on Death March?

ChrisI changed the difficulty several times during my first playthrough. If I start a New Game+ from said playthrough and did not change the difficulty from Death March, then finish the game, would I get the achievement?

Ave
12:56 AM
@GodEmperorDune this is beautiful
I should make a fork of tusky with support for twitter
for endless confusion
hm I wonder how many instances would instantly block twitter if they got activitypub
probably most tbh
i brought the idea up to a friend and it devolved into matrix memes ("it'd be the matrix.org of fediverse, no one would federate" etc)

@Dragonrage Do you think it's a good thing to have multiple hatching centers attached to the same paddock?
For a big paddock (like maybe a park-wide giant paddock), I think it might be a good idea to release different dinosaurs from different hatching centers.

Question: is it too soon to do a WeRateDogs subtweet
paging twitter doctor @Unionhawk on this pressing issue

I mean
So subtweets must be timely to be subtweets
Otherwise nobody understands what the hell you're on about
Unless you do some shit like "remember the time when that guy did the thing"

but I want to keep it subtle, is the trouble
I suppose I can do it now

Ave
i don't get twitter
I'll go back to saying mean things about gargron and pleroma

1:11 AM
-tweeting about stuff thats off-topic is "Random". never do this. -tweeting about current event stuff is "Topical". and this is also a crime

Query: what is a "subtweet"?

a subtweet is a tweet about another person that doesn't mention or quote them directly

Ave
@Yuuki a tweet that talks about a tweet but without directly referring to it (no quote rt, no mention of person etc)

Ah.
Query: why is it called a "subtweet"? Is it like a reference to submarines?
Or subterfuge?
Or Subaru?

Subliminal Tweet
At least I think

1:15 AM
I fucking hate that the sentence "@dogboner just @'ed the dog rates guy it probably doesn't matter" makes sense to me

Fuck

Bwahahahaha
I actually don't follow dogboner, I only have room for BronzeHammer

Ave
@Yuuki bc english
think of it like

I have a meticulously pruned following list, with exactly 69 seats

Ave
it's closer to "subdivision" than it is to "submarine"

Its like zen gardening for the extremely depressed

1:18 AM
@quartata Kindly.

Ave
it's a part of the chain of events etc

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now supports Nintendo Labo. http://bit.ly/2tsX58A
:o

Dude Nintendo Labo is actually genius
how do they do it

Infrared, strings, reflective tape

I should still get Labo. At some point. Maybe a few years in the future.

1:22 AM
@Yuuki i dont particularly think you need to. i normally have at most one per enclosure

Ave
oh and uh
my left joycon started yelling at me for low battery 15 minutes after I removed it from a night on switch today

though if you have a large herbivore enclosure, it may help to have two to replace any of the ones that die if you have a delicate balance for population and social

Ave
and surprisingly after like 6 hours of gaming and coubtless warnings it still was going well

once you unlock some upgrades for your hatcheries, you can run one faster hatching, and 2 extra spaces and be able to incubate 4 at a time

Okay, if you like pinball games, you really need to play Yoku's Island Express. It is cute as heck.

Yout RiedMinecraft will not connect to wifi. everything else on my computer works, I have tried using both ethernet and regular wifi, I've never had this problem before, and when I logged out tools back in it says could not connect to server. @Yuuki subterfuge imo. in the non twitter area it is known as "throwing shade"

2:32 AM
such a happy and chill song

3:11 AM
@Ash any updates on this? How's the paint holding up?
drove past ours yesterday, wanted to take a picture, but I don't operate phones while driving, so I didn't. There's only a tiny bit of it still visible on the sides of the road and in the very middle. Anywhere the car tires go over, the paint is completely gone

user15026
3:36 AM
Ours still looks as good as it did the day they did it

user15026
I walked over it today

is it on a busy street?

user15026
It's right by the biggest bus terminal in town

user15026
so kinda yeah

user15026
lots of bus traffic

3:36 AM
like I said before, you guys have probably have the science behind it figured out, we don't :P
or maybe it is just the weather

user15026
also you have generally harsher weather

(we're supposed to have rain and snow tomorrow)
and then 25 degrees on wednesday
our weather is basically a different season every day
I imagine that takes a toll on the road paint

user15026
Yeah I suspect it would, I'm curious how ours will look after the winter

.....someday, I hope my WoW character gets pants again.

user15026
This whole "fantasy bottom half gear that looks like underthings" is...not so awesome

user15026
and unlike the "this top half gear shows off way too much" where I bought a shirt and it goes under everything and that's awesome, I apparently can't do that to cover her legs

That's what transmog is for!

user15026
I don't know how to do that yet

user15026
so Stara is just like looking like she had to leave the house too fast to find pants

5:15 AM
Okay, so the only transmogrifiers are in faction capital cities and expansion hubs.
So Orgrimmar, Stormwind, Dalaran, Shattrath, etc.
Once there, you can ask any guard to direct you to a transmogrifier.
Talk to the transmogrifier (your mouse should turn into a weird gold and purple helmet shape when you mouseover them) and you'll see something looks like a character screen.
Click on the equipment you want to transmogrify, pants in your case, and there will be a number of different options on the right-hand side.
Choose one and then confirm your transmogrification.
You'll pay some money and now your pants will look like your selection.

user15026
will they stay that way forever or just until I get different pants and then I risk the same problem?

Unfortunately, you will have to re-transmog your new pants.

user15026
5:39 AM
But at least I can have pants :)

Q: What is the Korean term for Starcraft best of the best

Tyler DurdenWhat is the Korean term for the best of the best player, the one who dominates all others? I remember Flash used to be called it. The word is "jidan" or "jujan" or "jusan" something like that. It means the best player in the world by a large margin.

I just found a pretty fun bug. We check asynchronous requests for a session timeout through finding certain values in the response body and reloading the page if they're found. Unfortunately, if those values are placed in the response body for a different reason, it still considers it session timeout and it refreshes the page. Which then loads the same page again, including the asynchronously loaded component, which triggers the timeout script again... in an infinite loop

11:48 AM
Oh joy, this'll be a fun bug to fix. Because the response is pretty much unreliable (it can be manipulated quite easily, even accidentally through a careless edit or bad luck in a log), a better solution would be to check the response headers, but to do so, we'd have to rewrite every single javascript request to allow us to actually access those headers

DulkanThe tag, which inspired this question is star-wars-tiny-death-star. This game was discontinued in October 2014. 12:29 PM
@Unionhawk wonderful

there's something wrong with our weather

@Chippies Where is that? Snow in late June?

@Nzall Canada
@Exeggutor @Ronan @Yuuki so I'm having much more fun with simple mode
a train is parked on the side of a road

@Nzall Newfoundland, Gander specifically
gonna be 20C tomorrow, 25C thursday
all seasons in 4 days :P

12:38 PM
That's Canada for you

@Wipqozn That's a shame, I really liked the trick shots and things

@Wipqozn not all of Canada is like this though, this is one of the worst (reasonably populated) examples
our town gets way more snow than is sensible, the rest of the province isn't this bad

@Chippies yeah Newfoundland probably gets the worst of it. Province wise anyways. Pretty sure the northern territories are a winter wonderland most of the year.
@Ronan I do too, but the energy system just isn't properly balanced. Trick shots are just way too effective, so the whole game just becomes trick shot spam.

@Wipqozn yeah, that's why I said "reasonably populated", because for the most part, afaik, the northern territories are quite secluded from society with tiny communities here and there

@Chippies pretty much

12:46 PM
@Wipqozn Yeah I figured

12:57 PM
@Wipqozn I didn't get to play much yesterday but I got really frustrated at how unforgiving Bowser is.
It reminds me of the fighting game Fantasy Strike, which is intended to be super simple to execute so players can completely focus on strategy rather than difficult combos. It's super fun except for one character who completely changes the rules of the game and you essentially have to play perfectly to stand a chance of winning a round, and one mistake hands it to your opponent.
Like, even if it's technically balanced, that is not a good dynamic.
That's how it feels to play against Bowser, at least as Chain Chomp, in simple mode.

1:29 PM
@Exeggutor yeah bowser is definitely really strong in simple mode
He's got power and good reach
Bowser Jr gives me the most trouble
He's not as bad as standard mode, but he's still really goofy
Chain chomp is tricky too. He's got excellent horizontal reach. His jump shot has fantastic reach.
He has a hard time with vertical movement though

Either my PTO calculation isn't right, or I somehow have another 10 or so days of PTO I didn't realize I have
Best verify with my boss/HR

I normally try to abuse lob and drops against him

@Wipqozn A few of my won points in that match as Chain Chomp were by luring Bowser into using a lob shot and then smashing it.
Baiting the lob shot when you know it's coming is so strong.
I have a tendency to drift towards the net as I play so it's especially important for me to remember about lob shots.
If I'm playing against someone who doesn't know how to lob shot it's pretty much game over for them.

@Exeggutor yeah I've done that a bunch too
@Exeggutor yeah it's a key skill

Also I've started breaking the habit of charging every shot (since it doesn't give you energy in simple mode, you don't have to do it), and that's improved my play a lot.
You can get some silly angles on topspin shots with power characters by not charging.

soenguyso I've been wondering if it was ok to post game suggestions for specific genre ? Basically, I want to ask what kind of games I could play with a friend. 1:54 PM
big bewbs aside i was looking forward to it's dungeon crawling
guess the next best thing is if the chinese version gets an english localization setting aswell like some games do.....or learn japanese

@Exeggutor Huh. I'm so used to Tennis 64 where charged shots traveled so much faster.

@Yuuki They travel faster, but depending on the context of the shot sometimes it's only a little faster, and they also tend towards the center of the court.
So it's a choice between hitting harder in a direction that may be easier to return, or hitting a little lighter but getting a better angle on it.

Ugh, I like playing Rosalina but I also feel Tricky is a bit ridiculous.
It's like playing anime tennis.

Boo's curve is like twice as ridiculous as Rosalina's.
She's really fun to use, which I find annoying because I never liked her addition to the canon.

Mario canon, or lack thereof, has never really bothered me.
This is a franchise where mortal enemies also go golfing and go-karting on weekends or something.

2:09 PM
I just don't like her design or her as a character.
But she has fun gameplay in mario tennis so I'll deal I guess.

can anyone recommend ps4 couch multiplayer games? We just got a PS4 for the office, and now we've been tasked with ordering games for it. I've suggested crawl cuz I luvs it but I can't really think of anything else.

@slim Overcooked
Also depending on the type of audience, Diablo 3 is pretty fun and supports 4 players on the same console.
If you want a competitive game instead of coop Brawlhalla is pretty good.

coop/comp doesn't matter just need dem titles

god dammit
allstate

Rocket League supports multiplayer on one console, but it may only be 2 players, never tried it with more than that.

2:14 PM
is it split screen?

Yeah

nice

this is still not the right number for you to contact john

If you ever plan on possibly getting another console though, don't play Rocket League on PS4.

Or just don't link your PS4 account to any of your other gaming accounts.

2:15 PM
RL is better on xbox or some such?

@Exeggutor I think you have to link your account for Rocket League online play?

No, Sony locks any account that's ever used for a PS4 game so it can't be used on Microsoft/Nintendo consoles.

oh wow that's nice of them

@Yuuki If so it's a new restriction.

ok thanks for the tip

2:16 PM
I never made a psyonix account for either my PS4 or PC rocket league gaming, and have played online on both.

how could sony prevent nintendo from sending you an email?

It's a restriction imposed by sony on the companies that produce games on their platform, so for example Epic games which owns Fortnite, has built a feature such that if you use Fortnite on your PS4 then you can't play it on Switch.
It's enforced by Epic since they own the account stuff but if they stop enforcing it then Sony has some kind of action they can take.
I don't know, it's all fucking stupid.
Sony is a bunch of jerks.
Anyway, Tekken 7 is the best fighting game on PS4 right now if that's a thing people in your office would be into.

kk

October 19th, though, that will stop being true as I'm confident Soul Calibur 6 will be so good.

can you get old school games like street fighter on ps4?
I can google that.. nevermind
thanks for the suggestions

2:22 PM
np, hope they work out

researching state liquor laws for upcoming travel wait hold on what the fuck
> Beer and wine in small quantities may be purchased from a restaurant, bar, or licensed retailer. ... Some supermarkets, including Wegmans, Giant Eagle, Giant, and Weis, have begun to sell alcohol within restaurants attached to the main supermarket building, but only under very specific conditions
this is somehow dumber than UT was

@Unionhawk What state is this?

PA

I'm pretty sure PA is more lax about that than NJ is.

god

2:27 PM
Supermarkets in NJ are not allowed to sell liquor at all.
I've seen it in one Wegmans once but it was in like a separate but attached store, similar to as described there.
But no other supermarket I've ever been to in NJ has had alcohol.

I'm sure this would seem less insane to me if my travel to Utah was before they got rid of the weird rule where you had to be sponsored by a local to drink at a restaurant or whatever

Actually when I went to a supermarket in either Florida or California (can't remember which) and there were huge quantities of alcohol it felt super weird.

why can't every state just be Ohio
in this respect only
that is

Meanwhile there are some states with drive-through liquor stores.

he'll yeah

(that part of Ohio is stupid I'll admit)

So my dad and I will be switching cars for awhile since my sister just got her learner's permit.
And I drive a normal-ish car and he drives a full-size pickup.
My biggest gripe though is that he's probably going to be leaving all sorts of tools in my car and it's going to be a cluttered mess in like three days.

Make sure you clean his entire pickup to retaliate.

That would be the ultimate revenge

Ave
3:04 PM
Welp
21 days of owning the nintendo switch and right joycon's having issues with locking in place
and left one is having battery issues
good quality control

@Ave my left joycon constantly disconnects if I'm using it docked and have my leg in line between the joycon and the switch
anyone passes in front of the TV and the joycon desyncs for a moment

Ave
nice.

they supposedly fixed that with revision 2 of joycons, but I got the shit revision
I could probably get Nintendo to replace them or fix them, but I hate dealing with warranty...

@Wipqozn Of course @Wipqozn would support picking up after someone('s socks).

Ave
@Chippies same, especially because I bought my switch from legally dubious sources (nintendo doesn't exist in turkey, seller imported from singapore)
I do have warranty but it's "warranty"

3:17 PM
@Ave in Latvia, for warranty claims you had to go to the place you bought the item and they deal with it
is it like that in Turkey?

I think the joy con issue they'll just fix regardless

Ave
@Chippies yup

@Ave if they're good and reputable, they might just replace your joycons
who knows though

Ave
I'll contact them tonight

@Ave That's really shitty, but lemons be lemoning. I assume they cost an arm and a leg to replace in Turkey too? Provided you can't get Nintendo to replace them.
I've had to contact Nintendo once, for my wiiU, and they were actually really helpful. Easy process. but sounds like your "warranty" might not work, which sucks.

Ave
3:21 PM
new joycons are half a grans
in turkish lira

I'm having no luck figuring out what half a gran is, but I'll just assume it's a lot
because they're expensive enough in beaverbucks

Ave
however I might get a friend from reswitched or whatever to just ship me one
and I can probably just use payoneer

It just seems to ask for the serial number and whether you bought it some them or someone else, so I assume they're not going to check who the someone else is

Ave
I mean
I can fix it myslef for cheaper than the cost of shipping joycon to nintendo

3:35 PM
Yeah it's just adding more metal on the aerial or something right?

Ave
I mean the locking issues

Oh right oops

Ave
you need new buckle locks which are like $.75 each if you get plastic and $3 each if you get metal
and yeah I just bought like 6 of them

Q: Can you adjust the spell angle in Skyrim PSVR?

TimothyAWisemanAfter my PS4 installed the update for Skyrim PSVR last night the angle for aiming spells changed significantly. 4:40 PM
Hmm... do I want Ys VIII?

@Yuuki Yes.
What is it?

It's an RPG.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is an action role-playing game developed by Nihon Falcom, published by Nihon Falcom in Japan and NIS America worldwide. A part of the Ys series, it first released in Japan for the PlayStation Vita in July 2016, with worldwide releases for PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch following later. == Plot == Passing the archipelagos of the Gaete Sea located south of mainland Greek, Adol is on a passenger ship called the Lombardia that is headed from Xandria to the continent of Eresia. However, the ship is attacked and sunk by a giant creature, and when Adol...
Ugh, I keep misreading that as Lacrimosa of Dawn.
> Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is an action role-playing game played from a third-person perspective. Players control multiple main characters, each with their own play styles. The island is open world, allowing for exploration anywhere. While playing, an abundance of materials will be collected from defeating local fauna, flora and opening by chests. These materials can be crafted into items that the player can use on their journey, such as healing items and stronger weapons.

Gameplay looks meh, I should finish Tales of Berseria.

I've done it

So an Overwatch hack creator was sentenced to jail in South Korea.

wow they take gaming seriously

Digital intellectual property law is a lot different over there.
> A South Korean man is facing twelve months in jail for creating an Overwatch hack, which made him around $180,000. The hack violates South Korea's Game Industry Promotion Law, as well as the Information and Communication Technology Protection Law.

While previous Overwatch hacking offences have attracted probation periods and hefty fines in South Korea, the profitable nature of this hack is the cause for the jail time, writes SBS News (via Dot Esports). In addition to the time behind bars, the guilty party will also receive two years probation.

5:28 PM
i dont like that at all

IIRC, the courts also view hacks as adversely affecting a company’s income.

hacks are just a more fun form of reverse engineering
@Yuuki well they're out of their minds
you think Blizzard is hurting lmao
Now I don't really approve of cheats being sold for money, but if you're making a cheat as a proof of concept and you open source it I whole-heartedly approve
It's of benefit to the game developer honestly

@quartata I mean, if you’re proposing selective enforcement based on the income of the game developer, I’m all for it. Maybe. I ‘unno.

I don't know the context of the ruling
But I suspect there's no legitimate case to be made about it affecting profits

user15026
@Unionhawk I love watching this because like...every time I see it I'm just impressed at how the raccoon just doesn't give up

5:33 PM
Furthermore I suspect most OW cheats are external, so it can't be an IP issue

user15026
@quartata I....don't think they'll see it that way

@Ash they won't but they should
see: any other form of infosec

Also, boosting is illegal in Korea because it’s technically identity theft.

? because the boosters log into your account or something?

@quartata That argument falls apart once the hackers start using it and selling it.

5:36 PM
Because accounts are tied to Korean state identification numbers.

Does OW have separate solo and coop Elo

I don’t think so.

@Yuuki Does this mean that you can't smurf in Korea?
Or can you have more than one account per ID number?

If someone breaks into a bank and runs off with some cash they don't thank them and go 'geez, thanks for finding holes in our security system!'

@Exeggutor You can have more than one account per ID number.

5:38 PM
Ok, phew, smurfing is a sacred overwatch activity.
I wouldn't want them to be deprived.

user15026
@Wipqozn Pretty much

@Wipqozn not the comparison I was making in either aspect

user15026
Like it seems that @quartata is coming at it from a "this is good because it shows the devs there are issues" but like...that's assuming way more good faith than I think can be applied

user15026
Especially because people are charging for this stuff

The guy made $180,000 selling this hack.

5:40 PM
This particular case I don't really are, since they were charging money for it and that makes it dumb and more than a little exploitive (kids wanting to rank up...)

@quartata but it's the point you're making

But this sets a precedent to be used against people regardless of the color of their hats

The courts even said that the incredible amount of profits is why they pursued jail time.

user15026
If people are exploiting a thing,it is a problem

I honestly don't understand how anyone can argue using hacks in a multiplayer game is anything but a dick move

5:41 PM
@quartata Anyone wearing a fedora should go to jail regardless of whether it’s white or black.

cause I'm not talking about using

user15026
Like there's a difference between "Discover a thing, tell the company about it, do not use the hack/cheat/loophole, don't tell anyone else how to do it" and "hey look a big hole lets open it up and tell everyone and profit"

@Ash this is the difference I'm trying to convey, except that understanding and figuring out what the loophole is will involve doing some reverse engineering and writing code that probably has IP problems

I don’t think the law means prosecution for reporting bugs and exploits.

user15026

Yeah, I am not sure how we went from "they specifically pursued jail time because he profited and largely so" to "this is a threat to anyone looking into vulnerabilities"

Perhaps not but by bringing IP into the mix at all it's going to get applied to anyone tangentially close to reverse engineering

Not everyone is as insane about IP law as the US.

Blizzard hates people wanting to know how their games work

user15026
@quartata they literally say they only pursued what they did because the dude made a pile of money

@Yuuki exactly. Not every countries system is identical to the USA.

And if I am reading it right, it was because of how Korean law applies, not because of how the company reacted

user15026
So like...going "this will affect anyone ever looking into issues" isn't really correct here

Even if it's not necessarily a well founded legal risk it's still a deterrent

Actually, a quick glance shows South Korea doesn't actually follow common law anyways, it's a civil law based system
The legal system of South Korea is a civil law system that has its basis in the Constitution of the Republic of Korea. == History == In Korea, many disputes were settled by de facto, informal mediators like elder member of the community or family without making their way to the court. However, as Korea modernized, lawsuits increased dramatically. The total number of civil cases filed in 2002 was 1,015,894 which went up to 1,288,987 in 2006. The South Korean legal system effectively dates from the introduction of the original Constitution of the Republic of Korea and the organization of South Korea...

@Yuuki im sorry, but you are wrong

Common law being the system where such a large importantance is placed on precedent

5:50 PM
Civil law being strict interpretation from a legal code.

> Civil law is a legal system the main feature of which is that its core principles are codified into a referable system which serves as the primary source of law. This can be contrasted with common law systems, the intellectual framework of which comes from judge-made decisional law, and gives precedential authority to prior court decisions, on the principle that it is unfair to treat similar facts differently on different occasions.

The reason why I'm conflicted about this at all, rather than just going hackers are bad, is that some of the best documentation for Source comes from people who make CS hacks. I don't like hacks, I certainly don't like people who sell hacks, but any reverse engineering efforts are valuable in other ways (and there isn't a legal problem with Source because it's more or less open source and Valve wants people making server plugins for the closed source engine branches)

Here's a fancy image just because
Like it's an image, and it's fancy, with fancy information, so you know

Civil law can be a lot more problematic for the layperson because the code can be byzantine, but it's also very deterministic. Most proceedings are pretty much just verification of facts.

Blizzard historically has treated modders like shit -- see bnetd

5:52 PM
@quartata bnetd?

Getting someone, regardless of their motives, thrown in jail is the ultimate deterrent

@Wipqozn Dedicated server for battle.net games (Diablo 2 primarily)

IIRC, Blizzard did not initiate this case.

It was many years ago
Someone outside of America forked it though

5:53 PM
Based on my reading, it's a criminal case (S. Korea v. Hack Creator) not a civil case.

there's no way they pursued this without some involvement from Blizzard

That's not what I said.

@Wipqozn yeah that looks right

But then again, this entire conversation has been everyone ignoring what's said for their own interpretation of what's being said.

that's the most famous example
I'm pretty sure there was legal action against people making OW skins or something more recently

@Yuuki alright, let me try to understand - issue is just gov't versus person, and is solely because dude was breaking specific SK law AND making money

As far as I am aware, yes.

user15026
It had nothing to do in this case with the devs/publishers of the game, just that he was found to be breaking a SK rule by SK

What was the specific SK law

> The hack violates South Korea's Game Industry Promotion Law, as well as the Information and Communication Technology Protection Law.
It was like the second thing I posted.

user15026
(aka all the other stuff about "but the devs hate hacks" doesn't apply here)

5:58 PM
Communication Technology Protection law was what I mostly focused on, basically sounds like DMCA to me
I'll read the other one

Now there's maybe a legitimate thing to discuss about the game industry influence on Korea's legislative process but that was never brought up.
