well really it's only "so good" because all my regular people friends have iPhones

I would pay like 30CAD just for an iMessage app not on iOS

and that's expensive for an app

from apple's perspective, you need to pay 300-999usd to get a phone that supports it

300-999 USD > 30 CAD, again, from apple's perspective

but it's not a comparison of money because I'm not buying a 300-999usd phone instead of 30CAD software, I'm just going to buy the competition's alternative now

I downloaded Allo thinking it would be, but its nothing like it

just nothing integrated into their text message app

@BlueBarren idk, have never used it, but isn't it just an internet texting app?

I think the reason imessage is so success/good is because it's integrated into your texting app anyways

I mean, stuff like facebook messenger sort of works like imessage

but without everyone using an app, it's meaningless

@Chippies it's the same idea but regular people don't want to use more than 1 app for one thing

@BlueBarren messenger can display sms, but I'm not sure if it can send them. I've never actually used it for that purpose

the main advantage of imessage is that it's the default texting app and the second advantage is that it, afaik, smartly decides if it needs to send stuff through data or sms

still if it won't go to my friend's messages app on their iphone it's useless

@BlueBarren honestly though, unless you live in middle of nowhere, imessage is kinda pointless

it's the simplicity that your "average consumer" wants that makes alternatives so much more painful

as long as you have service, imessage kinda becomes pointless

I suppose it still uses data even if you're on wifi... hmm

so maybe that's a win for imessage, not quite sure

@Chippies when I signed up with WIND Mobile they have plans that are like $0.50 for picture messages or something

I mean listen, as much as people like to hate Apple they actually have some good products/services

and iMessage is one of them

but nowadays I don't think I can even get a plan without unlimited texting and MMS is just a text with data

I'm just saying that the main advantage of it is the ability to receive messages with no service available, as long as you have access to internet

I don't know why I always feel like I need to bring up that fact

android doesn't have such an alternative and it's a huge problem, imho

there's other things imessage does that are great, but there are android alternatives

but the smart switching between sms and data is something android can't offer, afaik
