@Lazers2.0 MOAR dps
@StrixVaria The gravestone. Every time.
@Lazers2.0 WHAT DO?
Oh cool, Stack Overflow broke 10mil questions

@twobugs Glad I could do my 0.0006%.
I think I only asked one or two really bad questions on SO because it's just much more intimidating
@twobugs Yeah. I have my doubts that I will ever ask an SO question again.
I've asked 3 questions on SO because all the other times I've wanted to there already was an answered question
15:10
I can't even imagine trying to moderate it given how much activity it gets
Also, if anyone is into old RPGs, GoG now has the best of the best available‌.
CC @fredley if he wants to go be boo again
Yeah, the GoG versions are pretty much the best, too.
(That's not what Jason linked to though it's also on sale)
With some really simple mods you can get infinity engine games running at 1080p widescreen
15:12
@KevinvanderVelden He can roll a miniature giant space hamster in Pool of Radiance. I don't think they have a sprite for that, though.
Oh, I thought he would be linking to the general Forgotten Realms sale
And, of course, Baldur's Gate
Same, but I checked afterwards =p
Baldur's Gate crappy combat can suck eggs. The Gold Box games are infinitely better.
It's a disappointing sale for me because I already own most/all of them
15:14
@murgatroid99 ...
I thought conservatives wanted small government...?
Except the NSA.
Also except womens rights
And the army
Keep the government out of my medicare! But make sure it gets into my bedroom and all my files!
Look it's all very complicated but just vote for us and everything will be money uuuh fine! I said fine
15:18
who took the photo...
curiosity pls.
It's stitched together, look at the shadows
@KevinvanderVelden That's what THEY want you to think
Clearly it was the female ghost from the other picture

Q: Is it legal to use the ojama monster from yu gi oh in gaming?

ماثابل رياضياتas the question says , I want to use the ojama in my game development , as main characters , is it legal to do so , or what conditions .... etc

that little guy needs a wash.
15:21
@Rapitor It was taken by the camera boom
@Rapitor For some reason the damn labor unions are refusing to service him. Something about jurisdiction or whatever
@Rapitor ALIENS
Either that or Matt Damon.
Wrong planet for Matt Damon.
That tube on the top that sticks up and then is cut off at an angle
@twobugs Mars, right?
@murgatroid99 People need to realize that you can't have a completely free state and a completely secure state.
Or rather I'm pretty sure people realize this, they just don't want to admit it.
15:26
@Yuuki Oh, duh. I was thinking Interstellar
I think a lot of people just want to feel safe. They're not really interested in actually being all that much safer. Security theater stuff is super popular
So fun times. Apparently, during WWI, the Germans tried to disguise one of their ships, the Trafalgar, as a British ship, the Carmania, to ambush British ships. Guess who they ran into on their first voyage/mission/operation?
German ships which sunk them?
That ship is a spy!
@twobugs No, they ran into the Carmania, the exact ship they were pretending to be.
@Yuuki That is far better than what I had hoped for
15:30
> Carmania: Wait a minute...
> Trafalgar: You have got to be shitting me.
The Carmania proceeded to sink the Trafalgar.
> Carminia: Identify yourselves.
> Trafalgar: Uh, we're the Carminia.
> Carminia: No, we are. You guys are spies.
> Trafalgar: ...Maybe YOU'RE the spies!
> The Trafalgar holds the dubious distinction of being the first armed merchant cruiser to have been sunk by a ship of the same class.
Hm, why didn't my italics work?
@twobugs Markdown doesn't work on multi-line messages.
It's why I split mine into two.
Oh, phooey.
15:38
urmom doesn't work on multi-line messages
Hey, guys, lifehacks!
These are brilliant!
I wish I would have thought of them before!
@SaintWacko Not a lifehack, using a thermometer as a thermometer. -1
15:42
Well, on Lifehacks.SE I've seen people get downvoted for suggesting answers that won't kill you because it's "not a lifehack"
Example: using a cleaning agent to clean something is "not a lifehack"
I still remember that one rule about using products designed for that purpose not being a "lifehack".
They took it to a ridiculous degree, too. Using baby wipes to clean a keyboard? Not a lifehack, because they're designed for cleaning

Q: Minecraft Test If A Chest Contains An Item

ChickenatorI've seen a lot of questions for finding specific items in chests using commands using testforblock but how would you test if any block/item has been placed in a chest? Thanks

Q: Need help with Ars Magica 2, spell crafting not working

user121861I have my altar built correctly, and have even tried multiple different configurations and locations. It will accept the blank rune, but then the next ingredient it asks for is always the blank parchment, nothing more. When I try to craft a spell in the inscription table, as soon as I put a book ...

I'm sure it's been revoked since then, but it was stupid while it was around.
LifeHacks.SE is best SE
15:55
puns make me unreasonably angry.
Is that brown one pooping?
Probably.
@Sterno Wouldn't you be?
16:15
@Rapitor Is it because they're particularly pungent?
Do you dislike how they punctuate one's talking with punctillious wit?
(for the purposes of the transcript I shall record that Rapitor has left this chatroom, _pun_ilaterally)
You've spun quite a punishing web there
@SaintWacko Puny humans need not apply.
Huh. When did they start allowing words to have partial Markdown?
A couple of months ago, I think
And I think it's just partial italics and bold
Thanks for helping me get this far
Trusted user <3
Now I can finally freely edit tags without waiting in the queue :)
16:29
@venidividicivicini Pretending you're a new user is both 1) inane, since they can easily see your rep, and 2) intentionally misleading people, which could be treated as malicious behavior.
I don't know why you keep insisting on doing this, but it's dumb. You should stop.
@StrixVaria Which one is this?
@SaintWacko Retrosaur.
Ah, that's what I thought
Didn't want to make that accusation without being sure, though
@StrixVaria I think he's also now basing his Chat.SE profile off another site to try avoid the whole "20k rep user on ignore, it's Retrosaur" thing.
@Yuuki except that chat shows network-wide rep
16:35
Banning trolls who tiptoe on the edge of the rules is fun. I wish I had an excuse to do that.
@murgatroid99 Not on mouse-click menu thing. I think they have to have several messages in a row before it displays network-wide rep?
@Yuuki or if you just look at the user profile link
@Yuuki I noticed that he's basing off of math now
@murgatroid99 I usually click on the "specific SE site profile" instead of Chat.SE profile.

Q: Can I run Fallout 4?

user121868Ok, my pc isn't like a beast but I can run Fallout:New Vegas and Skyrim on high. Obviously I know Fallout 4 is extremely more advanced, I'm not looking for high on everything, I just want functional.

16:43
@Yuuki Doesn't stop the ignore though.
@Arperum Nope.
I don't think the ignore is necessary nowadays, he gets called on his crap and leaves within minutes =p
@KevinvanderVelden Meh, unignoring is too much work. Same for other ignored users. It takes a while to get on my ignore list, but getting back of is pretty damn hard.
@badp Is there anything happening there other than a wipeout?
@SaintWacko just the wipeout
it took him a LOOOOOOONG while to stop that car.
@badp at least it didnt go airborne
@Rapitor The only real way F1 cars have to go airborne is to get rear-ended
17:10
or if aero screws up
maybe a sudden gravity inversion?
@badp What exactly happened, his rear tire blew?
@Yuuki Yeah, apparently they were expecting a much colder weather
@twobugs Isn't this already what everybody does?
@badp Wheel on wheel will get some air under the car.
17:20
@GnomeSlice Nope, not by a longshot. And I've made the mistake of buying based on promise before, too.
Gfycat refuses to play more than a fraction of a second on my phone
Early Access isn't inherently bad, but it's been abused enough that I'm going to be very selective with it
@twobugs lol, well that's your fault, not "early access" fault.
Games have been released in beta state since long before steam came up with a buzzphrase for it.
Especially shooters
It's a system that is designed for unfinished games with no incentive to finish them for developers.
It's been used very well, yes. But it's been used very poorly as well.
@GnomeSlice games in beta state usually weren't sold at full price before steam allowed it though
17:24
Steam refunds definitely make me more likely to try out an Early Access game, though.
If I can download a game, play for 30 minutes and tell that I just don't enjoy how it controls or something that is fundamentally unlikely to change I'll return it
Same for completed games, then?
Yeah, true.
I haven't tried the refund thing myself
hm, splatoon seems to be doing very well in eSports, so much so that there is a tournament starting in Japan with a $1million prize pool
as well as puzzles and dragons tournament (wat)
I don't have a problem specifically with Early Access. I just feel like it's been used in bad faith by depressing number of developers
And not just like, guy in basement who got run over by a car and can't continue development. By real studios like Double Fine.
17:27
"Real studios"
Hamstare @twobugs
Is Double Fine not a real studio?
I should have said established studios, rather.
They've got games under their belt.
People blaming steam is stupid too, people still sell unfinished games in other places too
Plus, preorders.
That's a thing.
IMO preorders are an actual problem, but they're bigger than ever
@GnomeSlice I don't think people blame Steam, people blame the concept of selling games at full price with the tag "early access" full of promises and no guarantees
Don't buy it then
I don't
17:30
Wait till its done or abandoned
The difference I think with Early Access is that it's being sold as an in-development game. It's not explicitly stated but it's heavily suggested that the game will be finished at some point.
@GnomeSlice except sometimes a good game doesn't get finished because no one bought it at early access
so that's the other side of it
But people have just put a game up on Early Access, collected $$$$, and then ditched it
@Chippies but some people don't mind buying unfinished games
17:31
early access, just like kickstarter is a great platform for scamming people
@GnomeSlice That's fine, and I'm glad Early Access exists so that people who want to 'invest' in a game and be a part of the development can do so
@GnomeSlice the thing is, these unfinished games are sold at a price of a finished game with the promise that it will have the content of a finished game in future
It's just an avenue for my $$$$ that I have deemed too risky
I only buy games in early access that I deem finished enough, with the chance of being better in future
Most of the problem I think, is caused by the fact that developers don't always know what they're capable of
17:33
@GnomeSlice Absolutely, but there are definitely bad faith cases too
@JasonBerkan I guess that counts as getting rear ended from the side? :P
If you visited a game studio when they were coming upwith the concept f9r their game it would be the same thing
but there's people that buy games in early access to support the developer in hopes to see the game finished, but the shitty dev just takes the cash and runs
People really underestimate how hard it is to make anything, really.

Q: In Diablo 2 the monastery has a massive prison complex and torture chamber. Is/was this normal in real life?

BizorkeI've just been wondering about the factual validity of the game setting. The crusaders did some pretty insane things so it's believable, but are there really any instances of torture chambers in monasteries IRL?

17:34
YEAH it's gonna have lasers and space bees and topless women and be 2 billion square miles and have the best AI ever
But by the time they're done the scope is considerably smaller
@GnomeSlice well, 4 out of 5 of those things are fairly simple to implement... :P
This happens with a lot of games, we just don't see the development process
@GnomeSlice And you can like fly between the planets and stars and find aliens
@StrixVaria what was your old avatar? I seriously identify most of you by your picture not your name haha!
Early access just means we can see what they WANT to put it before theyve done it, in some cases.
17:35
did @StrixVaria change his avatar? :O
@wipqozn will always be a tortoise to me for example
@Chippies A few weeks ago.
So yeah, buy it based on current content, for the most part
@chippies he may have even changed it a long time ago, and I just now noticed
BRB ANNOYING BRIDGE
17:35
Hey One Way Heroics players
@Ender To be fair, you also have a new avatar.
No he doesn't
What is "Desire weapons" as a wish?
@StrixVaria oh yeah, I knew that. Your avatar changes are done right, because the differences are subtle enough to not confuse me
@StrixVaria I changed this only when Ender's game came out, for obvious reasons. Previous to that moment, there was no widely known and accepted image for Ender
17:36
Heh
Well there was the novel
you had the invader zim dog, then the poke-owl and now the fishy
\o
Yes but the novel was from the time when novels covers had random images
I'm great at describing things
ANNOY BRIDGE STATUS: CACHING
17:36
Oh true
so there was no static image for ender still
now THAT piece of info blew my mind when I learned it
RANDOM images for your book cover.
Holy cow.
Lots of books still have different covers depending on where they're published
Or something
If I ever wrote a book, I'd get a random photo from @spugsley collection (with permission, of course)
@GnomeSlice yea but image if Harry Potter was on the shelf, and on it's cover, was a random deserty looking image with some rocks and cacti?
People are taught to not judge books by their cover, but it's human nature to do so at least a little.
@Ender boring covers are overlooked because they look boring, duh
17:39
Yeah true
I mean, the only way you'd pick up a book with a boring cover is if you had already known more about the book from other sources
The funny thing was, I spent a large amount of my adolescence confused about a lot of my favorite books, who'se covers had images that had NOTHING to do with the story.
I never knew why
@Chippies I disagree, titles say a lot
I've picked up books purely by catching the title
@Ender well, yes, but the title has to be readable well at a quick glance, which is part of the cover, I guess :P
^
But what if books had numbers instead of titles?
O that's, 79034659, I remember that!
My favourite cover as a young boy:
17:41
See what I mean? That's exactly the kind of cover I'm talking about too.
That books probably about some aquamarine planet or something else totally unrelated.
But that actually is Arkady on the ruins of Trantor.
I bet there aren't even any human characters in it
Not sure who or what that is Jason, but the picture is pretty cool for what it's worth.
Asimov's Second Foundation
(it probably has something to do with the story, and what he's saying is "no this doesn't illustrate your point")
17:43
I just looked for Ender's Game book covers, and I couldn't find any that were actually irrelevant
@JasonBerkan Oh wow, I love the Foundation series but I've never seen that cover and I wouldn't have guessed that was a Foundation book
Granted, my school library only had the cheap and crappy paperbacks
That's what my paperback copy looked like.
Would have been purchased in the late 80s.
@Ender Apparently no book cover designer has actually read the book they're designing the cover for. Typically all they have to go on is the book title
I think my copy had some really weird art that was supposed to be the mule
That was mine
Oh
@badp Yea that would figure.
17:48
@murgatroid99 the only enders game cover I've seen that made any sense had a spaceship near a giant space station. It COULD be an image of battleschool. Maybe. I dunno.
of course they're the same book

Q: What's the optimal racetrack to use for the Rocket Manski achievement?

blart memesThe description for the Rocket Manski achievement reads as so: You've driven faster than a Russian torpedo, which incidentally is 230 mph (370 km/h). I have yet to find a race track that lets me drive this fast before a shard corner or anything. What is the optimal track to drive on to obt...

@badp That really proves my point entirely right there
@Ender yeah I don't think book covers are often the same across translations
17:50
golems are awful
@Badp I wouldn't be surprised if you were correct, but that is still exactly the kind of thing you can see even within the same language.
@StrixVaria I make an attempt to have unique usernames and profile icons for all of my stackexchange account.
I simply choose a chat profile with an icon I like for the time being, and then move on
@venidividicivicini And that's fine, and not at all what I took issue with.
Right, my previous actions have been made in jest but I understand how I could be perceived as being trollish
Don't try to trick people into thinking you're a new user by changing your avatar/username/associated profile.
17:52
You can change those things, just not for that purpose.
@Ender Almost every cover I can find has either that spaceship, a space station, a kid running a simulation, a kid in the zero-G battle area thing, or a bug alien thing
Now it should be back to normal

Q: If corners were illegal, where would the ghosts live?

chasly from UKSome societies in our current world have strong beliefs about ghosts and spirits. This affects their architecture, e.g. 6 Bizarre Ways Architecture Is Designed to Ward Off Ghosts By Christina H December 14, 2010 The methods vary from the colour of paint you use to the shape of door...

um...
17:53
@Rapitor This question is amazing, by the way
@Rapitor I love WorldBuilding
Worldbuilding is great.
testfor might actually become useful now.
People asking these completely off the wall questions and getting awesome and well thought out answers
@murgatroid99 More power to ya? I'm talking about a handful of books I owned as a child, are you sure your looking up the OLD publications and not all the new bullsh** released after the movie?
17:54
@MBraedley It's useful currently for single effects (if the player meets this condition, set off TNT at this set position) but not in the general case
@badp lol!
@Ender I'm looking on Google Image Search, and most of what I found is from before the movie
@Unionhawk Yeah, but you can do that with execute easily enough, and without the redstone delay.
@MBraedley Well... oh yeah that's right
execute @p ~ ~ ~ {nbt} summon primedTNT ~ ~ ~
"oh right this is sci-fi, then uh drop the samurais and replace them with lazers"
17:55
@murgatroid99 shoot, maybe I just got unlucky? Ender's game was an example for a practice that is un-arguable though, so perhaps just a bad example?
@Unionhawk or select a scoreboard objective
\o/___~~~___NBT____TNT___@PL__
@MBraedley I don't even think you'd need to in the case of NBT matching
You might, though, I forget
I didn't think you could NBT match with execute, but I could be wrong on that.
I'm probably wrong here, I forget
17:58
most definitely
idk what you are wrong about
Although tab completion in command blocks makes me happy

Q: Does Call of Duty United Offensive need COD2?

HeidiHey I know that the game is pretty old but I have heard its awesome. When installing CODUO does the game require COD2 ? I mean is the expansion stand alone or dependent on COD2 ?

@StrixVaria I love that subreddit so much
I have at least a couple of Space Jam remixes in my music playlist
I like the way you think Google
18:58
@Rapitor once upon a time, editing Google results pages and then taking screenshots was actually funny
Hmm fair point
still amusing
Also, why is that a small screenshot pasted onto a giant white background?
don't ask me.
