aiming was unnecessarily difficult, the character movements were sluggish, there's only few different attacks with each weapon type

and it takes really long to kill the bosses and it wasn't that much of a challenge

but again - I've only played the demo

Yeah, you fight monsters, but the vast majority of the fun comes from you, the player, levelling up.

so if you have the chance, certainly play H1->H3, and Reach and ODST are good "side stories" to the narrative. but H4 is kind of a mess.

if you can put up with the really, really old gameplay, the marathon series is very top notch as far as storytelling goes. it's free, iirc.
