1:02 PM
Xbox One is launching Nov. 22 http://sbn.to/15ysJSP

@BenBrocka That's a week after NA PS4, and a week before ROW PS4

PS4 has the weird staggered launch too then?
I guess they don't even have a JP release date quite yet for PS4

Good morning, Bridge

1:23 PM
I'm going to buy one console, regret my decision, buy the other, and then play neither.

@BenBrocka Does a cell-shaded game really need a HD remake?

The Wind Waker remake would feel better if it weren't a full-priced title.
From the screenshots it still looks kind of meh graphically

If you run out of ideas - make a remake

I'm all for remakes, actually. I wish more old games I loved had remakes

Define "old"

1:27 PM
Is Haskell actually used in production?

I also love remakes, but these remakes should be for games Ps1 era downwards.
And not PS2 upwards

@5pike Sort of; the better resolution and AA will make the game look better. I don't think it needs the bloom and it won't benefit as much from new textures
Proper 16:9 and better res would be worth a $20-$30 remake to me, but like @Sterno I wish it weren't full price
@5pike well they already have OoT 3D and the new LttP is like half remake half sequel since it's largely the same map

@5pike @sterno

Age will be measured in Sternos

But, how long is a Sterno?

1:31 PM
Old

@5pike Twelve OrigamiRobots.

T-T

Which are twelve kalinas each.

How long in parsec?

@FEichinger An @OrigamiRobot is worth 12 @kalina?

1:32 PM
@5pike That's kind of a personal question.

@BenBrocka If I had bought the original, I'd probably be right there with you.
Sadly, my console ownership only really started with the Wii, and Wind Waker was one title I never picked up.

@fredley I'm thinking about renaming OrigamiRobots, what with him being a robot and all, but yes.

I hope you realise the impact twelve of me would have on the planet

@kalina Why, but noone wants to clone you. You're just a unit of age now.

1:34 PM
@fredley Seems accurate.

@fbueckert I've had the majority of popular consoles since the SNES, and I happened to get an NES a few years ago

@BenBrocka My parents had a NES and SNES, but as a kid, disposable income was rather slim. I got a couple games, but that was about it.
And I got to more or less totally skip the N64 and Gamecube eras.

@kalina IMPACT! hahahahahahahahahaha

@BenBrocka I'd love to get my hands on a NES / SNES etc ... but these things are pretty expensive around my parts....
Thank god for emulation.

@OrigamiRobot is that a poor attempt at trying to call me fat?

1:49 PM
@kalina Well now it is

I see

@kalina It was subtle enough for you to jump at it, so I'd say it was nicely executed.

I didn't call nobody nothing.

@FEichinger this is @OrigamiRobot, he can only do accidental execution at best - you're giving him way too much credit

@kalina So? It worked no less. :P

1:52 PM

I do not accept credit. Cash only.

@5pike It's cool to have them but I love the idea of a more functional digital alternative like Sony's PSX emulation for PS3/PSP/PSV and I assume PS4, I wish Nintendo's VC was more like that (buy once, play on everything, doesn't do this "NEW CONSOLE let's slash the VC library into nothingness again even though we were still missing so much shit on the wii")

@BenBrocka Yeah, Nintendo's still trying to feel it's way through the whole online aspect.
Including the downloading of titles.

@Blem cruel

It would be better if they just glutted the VC store with stuff as fast as they can port it.
Rather than the dribs and drabs we currently get.

1:54 PM
@fbueckert Even then it seems absurd to not put everything from the Wii VC onto the Wii U VC

@BenBrocka I agree.
Fragmenting the market like that doesn't help them at all.

They're trying to do the whole slow, metered releases so they can draw more attention per title, but they will literally never fill their backlog at this rate

As they proved with the Wii, they will not release all they can before the next console is out, and if they start from 0 VC titles every generation we will just never actually have all possible games on VC, not on one platform anyway. It shouldn't be like this

@PrivatePansy Yeah, it got announced at E3, right?

1:56 PM
If that's what absol's evolution looks like I'm going to be so pissed

I wasn't around for E3

@PrivatePansy old news

Also Hitbox team is working with Capcom to bring Dustforce to consoles.
!!

@BenBrocka And the fact that they're crazy scared about piracy doesn't help actually transferring your purchases to the new console.
Personally, I just want PvZ 2 to come out on non-iOS devices.

@fbueckert Which is so fucking dumb. If people were going to pirate SNES/N64/etc games they'd just use emulators, not trade their Wii U account

2:02 PM
@fbueckert They might be crazy scared about piracy, but they make it to damn easy

@BenBrocka Exactly.

I hope they got their asses into gear to secure the WII U

They need to offer a viable alternative to ROMs, they could be making so much more money

It boggles the mind.

@fbueckert It's out on Facebook.

@fbueckert and pay a fee

@fredley yea, but my guess is it is also fake

Wait, maybe it isn't.

@5pike $5 for a solid year is crazy cheap.

@Blem Oh yes, of course
TV looks nothing like a window

2:04 PM
I'd rather put 'em on my SD card or PC, but at least it's cheap

Hey, you know what virtual console doesn't force you to re-buy all your games every four years? Emulators.

No parallax, and it didn't look animated

@fbueckert Yes it is, just saying

Screw you, Nintendo.

I could pay for a lifetime subscription out of pocket change.

2:04 PM
@Brant also you can transfer and back up your save files...that's important for me

Dropbox.

@BenBrocka With it under their control, they can also guarantee the legitimacy of said Pokemon.

Sorry for the snark, just ranting.

@BenBrocka to multiple devices as well

@5pike yeah, I use SugarSync to sync my emulator saves to all my devices...unfortunately my Android emulators can't read saves from my PC emulators though
@fbueckert Oh, that's true
I know they had hacking problems in previous online offerings

2:07 PM
@BenBrocka use a different emulator?

Surprisingly many people had perfect, shiney pokemon
@5pike Almost no two emulators seem to support the same format of saves, even on the same platform. At least they didn't for SNES when I tried

@BenBrocka All emulators I used were pretty much compatible
could be that I am just lucky

I just use one per system on PC, but my Android ones don't seem to play nice with them

Speaking of new Wii U VC games, Breath of Fire 2 is coming soon.

You'd think they'd at least support ZSNES files, it's like the gold standard of SNES emulator

2:09 PM
Like...tomorrow.

@BenBrocka which SNES emulator are you using?
On android

@5pike SNESoid, I was using all the *oids back in the day. I want to get off of them, since their controls suck on tablets, but my saves are locked on there
I can switch over, but I'll have to switch over after I finish Lufia 2. Earthbound's save file is also SNESoid
But I finished EB so I can just stop using SNESoid but use a new one if it's ZSNES compatible

Mhhh... I think that the Snes9x save files are compatible, but not 100% sure
was quite a while when I last played

@MichaelDunfield Meh, it's one of those "sounds good on paper" things.

2:13 PM
Forget why but I didn't like SNES9x quite as much. Might try it later though

ZSNES and SNES9x are the 2 most popular ones

<3 ZSNES

I love everything about ZSNES except how it handles the mouse

Almost every year, I get the urge to dust of my emulators
What ensues is an update party
for EVERYTHING

I never really seek out emulator updates, not sure any of mine ever got smart enough to update inside the app's menus

2:19 PM
I just get the urge to do it

I should see if PSP emulation ever got perfected so I can move my last UMD games to emulator

@BenBrocka I think they got pretty good
PS2 as well

That's interesting, I'll have to try a PS2 emulator too, my current PC should be able to handle it unlike my PC in college...

I'm currently without a method of properly playing PS2 games
@FEichinger sounds like a 16 bit era video game plot come to think of it

2:20 PM
@BenBrocka Tried it as it was at the 0.9 state - was pretty good

pcsx2?

yes
was 1 year ago

my Dualshock 3 drivers have a special setting for that even
I'll have to download that again

Playable: 1885 (79.2%)

I remember pcsx2 being even more of a pain to try and set up than DC and PSX emulation

2:23 PM
It isn't really
Just follow a guide

@FEichinger Spooky. Pieces of metal around the skeleton? Potentially made of multiple bodies? Sounds awesome.

@5pike I just recall fussing with lots of plugins

@BenBrocka Strange - I don't
Remember downloading pcsx2
the bios
2 plugins
and bam
Worst Case should only take 1 hour

I still couldn't find the bios.
Last time I tried, that is.
The only games I'd want to play on PS1 are the Crash Bandicoot games, Spyro, and FF7.

Maybe I'm thinking more of epsxe

2:27 PM
@BenBrocka Buy a used PS2?

I now a place that has everything you need, but since BIOS are quite hot, I don't think I'm allowed to share it

@ShotgunNinja No Legend of Dragoon? is sad

@ShotgunNinja -FF7 +Legend of Dragoon

@MichaelDunfield I have a Yellow Light of Death'd fat PS3 I'd like to fix but I got annoyed halfway through taking it appart so it's back in it's box

@BenBrocka Repaired the one of my brother
was fun

2:29 PM
@BenBrocka I am now the proud owner of no less than three 60 GB PS3's.

@ShotgunNinja Parasite Eve, Silent Hill, Legend of Legaia

One dead, one in use, one as backup.

Yeah my dad has three PS3's too. One of them he bought with like 14 games for much less than the price of the games or the unit on their own.

@ShotgunNinja SotN

@5pike I'm gonig to try the heatgun thing, I have the heatgun but MAN is this thing a pain in the ass to rip apart
@OrigamiRobot yes

2:30 PM
@BenBrocka I know, but the heatgun thing works

Onimushas 1, 3, and 4

@OrigamiRobot Those are PS2

@BenBrocka Oh yea, I got away from myself...

@BenBrocka I just baked mine.

2:30 PM
Damn I never got Onimusha 4 did I

I never finished it.

I finished 1 through 3. Wasn't a big fan of 2
1 was great, my first PS2 game too I think (that or FFx)
I was amazed by the graphics in Onimusha at the time. Still looks good, really

Ooooh, non-dubbed House of Cards, sweet.

2 was awful.

@OrigamiRobot I can't remember much about 2
Probably for the better

2:35 PM
Any other games for PS1 I should look into getting?
I'm making a list.

@ShotgunNinja Alundra
I try to think of some more

Probably but I can't think right now. I really enjoyed FF8/9 too but I know lots of people think they were meh

@ShotgunNinja Tomba! and to a lesser extent, Tomba! 2

Oh, Wild Arms is great

If I wasn't at work, I could sift through my .iso collection.

2:36 PM
This is a list of games for the Sony PlayStation video game system, organized alphabetically by name. See Lists of video games for related lists. There are often different names for the same game in different regions. The Sony PlayStation was first released in Japan on December 3, 1994, September 9, 1995 in North America, September 29, 1995 in Europe and in Australia on November 15, 1995 and featured 14 launch titles: Air Combat, Aquanaut's Holiday, Battle Arena Toshinden, ESPN Extreme Games, Jumping Flash!, Kileak - The DNA Imperative, NBA Jam Tournament Edition, Power Serve 3D Tennis...

@ShotgunNinja Megaman Legends 1 & 2

@ShotgunNinja If you don't have a PSP, Tactics Ogre.
If you do, get the PSP version.

I'm just going for PS1 games, since I'm going to renew my efforts in earnest to set up a PS1 emulator or get a used PS1.

Jumping Flash was fun for the $6 I paid for it

@ShotgunNinja And Tactics Ogre is a must play for SRPG fans. I just feel the PSP version is better than the PS1 version.

2:39 PM
Wild 9 was also quite fun

Though it's possibly more useful for nostalgia/a reminder of how awkward 3D controls used to be on a console than as a game, I still liked it though

@ShotgunNinja ePSXe is super easy to set up.

Bushido Blade
Chrono Cross

@OrigamiRobot Really? I've found it extremely hard to set up, compared to emulators for other consoles.

oh man
blatant sexism in Japan:

2:43 PM
Digimon world

|genre = Life simulation/Role-playing video game |modes = Single player |ratings = |platforms = PlayStation, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Network |requirements = }} is a video game in the farm simulation series Harvest Moon, developed by Victor Interactive Software. It is the first Harvest Moon game for a non-Nintendo console. Characters from Harvest Moon 64 were transferred to be the characters in this game, although with new lifestyles, personalities, and relatives. A girl-oriented remake, , was also developed, but until 2007 had not been released in English. This game was late...

aka: Harvest Moon for Girls

@ShotgunNinja YES - that game is awesome

@ShotgunNinja How...is that sexist?

2:43 PM
@fbueckert "A girl-oriented remake"
But I don't really think it is either.

@fbueckert They released a separate version in Japan... with "for Girls" at the end of the title.

@RedRiderX It is hard compared to other emulators in the same sense that 6 flies are harder to swat than 5.

@ShotgunNinja That's not sexism. That's feature limitation.

@fbueckert Which is sexist...

It's a common trend for early Harvest Moon games.
They did that out here, too.

Doesn't mean it isn't discriminatory between men and women gamers.

I have a gift code for £19.99's worth of in-game currency for Warframe. I've never even heard of the game but if you're a player ping me and I'll get teh codez up all in yo' face.

Einhänder

@5pike I only ever got to play the demo of this, but I wanted it so bad.

2:45 PM
@MichaelDunfield Oh SWEET!!!!

They did that straight up to DS games. Would you rather they not make the alternate version at all?

Evil Dead: Hail to the King
Fear Effect 1 and 2

@MichaelDunfield You'll always be @gnomeslice to me.

Front Mission series

Note to self: never reload this page

2:47 PM
G-police

@ShotgunNinja They just hadn't bothered to offer a female protagonist (and due to the marriage mechanics it's not as simple as changing the character sprite and some pronouns)

@badp Something you want to save?

Definitely Grandia

@GnomeSlice YOU
:P

2:48 PM
one of the best RPGs

the Game Boy harvest moons allowed female characters and I think were the first to do so, and they did it by removing marriage as a mechanic

@FEichinger does female UFC even exist?

@OrigamiRobot I'd describe it as swatting 3 flies is easier than dealing with 6 different species of insects that all need a special kind of bug spray.

@MichaelDunfield Supposedly.

But maybe I just had a hard time finding documentation.

2:49 PM
@FEichinger That sounds like it could be interesting.

Hellnight aka Dark Messiah (scary game)
Hogs of War
Incredible Crisis (wacky game)

I've heard of Incredible Crisis, actually.

Animated gifs cause cancer.
3

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

2:51 PM
@RedRiderX What do you need documentation for?

@badp I have no idea what that gif is supposed to represent

King's Field series (balls to the wall hard)

uh

@BenBrocka Cheering for the wrong team

"the Game Boy harvest moons allowed female characters and I think were the first to do so" "yesss" "and they did it by removing marriage as a mechanic" "wait what"

2:52 PM
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

@Sterno Note to self: Ping @Sterno whenever animated gifs are posted from now on.

Legend of Mana (you have to play that)

OMG Legend of Mana was great

Legend of @Mana

LSD

2:52 PM
@OrigamiRobot =[

But kind of mean since it's basically impossible to experience all of the game in one playthrough

Medal of Honor series (dated graphics but still fun)
MediEvil 1 and 2

@badp marriage was never the most important part of it. Though I'm still annoyed that I can't marry why I want in A New Beginning. I didn't bother marrying at all in Rune Factory since it took soooo long

Apparently there was a Japan-only Cowboy Bebop game for PS1.

@OrigamiRobot Which plugins to use for certain features or games or systems, and maybe some clearer help on how to debug stuff that isn't working.

2:53 PM
Megaman X4, X5 and X6

Have you guys ever played this

@Wipqozn Note to self: HOW EVERYTHING OUT The word in square brackets is the alt text, which gets displayed if the browser can't show the image. Be sure to include meaningful alt text for screen-reading software

Whoa, this has a PC version?

@BenBrocka You should simply be able to look at a person and long-press E for the "marry" contextual menu action.

@RedRiderX For the vast majority, you can just use the highest rated plugins.

2:54 PM
You'll always be @GnomeSlice to me, @MichaelDunfield.

and then boom, married!!

or @GnomieBear,

@Wipqozn @GnomieBear*

Oddworld series

Welp, I'm off to register GnomieBear as a Stack account.

2:55 PM
@5pike I see you mentioning awesome games like Fear Effect and Grandia. Why? I missed the relevant bit in the transcript.

Naming PS1 games I should try.

Parasite Eve (stay away from 2)

Mighty No 9 already has a bunch of fan art

Persona series
@BenBrocka and NSFW material

@5pike I didn't think 2 was that bad, but it definitely wasn't as good as the first

2:56 PM
@Wipqozn @SexRobot*

Ah. Yes, @ShotgunNinja you should play Fear Effect. It was amazing.

It's on the list.

Point Blank series, if you have a lightgun and a ps 1.

I'm gonna try to find a PS1.

Am I the only person who's played Tomba?

2:58 PM

DID I IMAGINE THIS GAME?

| genre = Platform | modes = Single-player | media = CD-ROM }} Ore! Tomba (Me! Tomba) in Japan, Tomba! in North America and Tombi! in Europe, is a platform game developed by Whoopee Camp for the Sony PlayStation. The game was followed by a sequel titled Tomba! The Wild Adventures in Japan, Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return in North America and Tombi! 2 in Europe. The colorful imaginative atmosphere and innovative gameplay has continued to keep it nostalgically popular with gamers. The series is the brainchild of Tokuro Fujiwara. It was also one of the first PlayStation games to take advanta...
All signs point to no.

Policenauts

Tomba! is so valuable now. I am so ashamed I broke my copy.
