It depends, but I can't recall anything I've played recently that was six or less.

My xbox pad has 10 buttons easily accessible.

I spend some time binding things in SWTOR when I played that, and managed to perform well enough in PVE and casual warzones.

I think it may just be since I've getting older, but for games designed with a controller in mind (ie, Skyrim, etc) when playing it on a PC, it's just so much better to use a controller.

though maybe it also depends on how you sit. I've not had a "desk chair" for quite a while, and instead sit in a lounge chair with no comfortable place to put the keyboard and mouse while playing.
