12:01 AM
G'night Arquade!
-Disconnected-

@YiJiang'sEvilClone From a 1920x1080? Wouldn't that be 230400 more pixels?
@Ender Welcome to roguelikes

@SaintWacko Well, square pixels. Pixels can also be used as a measurement of length.

UGH STEAM
STOP STARTING NEW DOWNLOADS WHEN I PAUSE THE OLD ONES

@GnomeSlice There's a pause all button

@YiJiang'sEvilClone They don't appear until I pause them and then switch back to my browser.
Suddenly the page I'm trying to get at won't load, and sure enough, Steam is downloading something new.
Omg stoppppppp
Bye bye internet.
Oh, so it's just Steam.
Come on, it's 5.7 MB, how long can it possibly take...
It's going to take it like 10 minutes.
My internet is really slow today...

12:26 AM
How many fingers do we have
Nevermind
HEY, GUYS
Demo players and paid players can now play together in the new Metal Drift update.
You guys should try the demo.

@GnomeSlice It's not that fun.

@fbueckert Yes it is.
Also, I've probably played it more than you.
Rah, 165 MB to update it...
=[
Is a windows live id the same as an xbox live id?
Nevermind again

12:41 AM
@Ktash I'm in a vocal ensemble at my church, and we sang that one sunday

@SaintWacko Did you see the dice pictures?

Q: What is the villager breed rate?

CrazyCastaWhat is the breed rate for villagers. I know the requirements of housing and the like. What I want to know is: is it like cattle, one breed every five minutes and twenty minutes to grow up? If so, are those the rates?

I have returned.
It seems @Origami is the only one remaining from earlier, eh?

@winterswift I've been here all day.

12:54 AM
@GnomeSlice Ah, but you see, I was here all night. (I slept)

I never sleep.

@GnomeSlice I tried that once.

@winterswift It sucks, doesn't it.

Nov 7 '10 at 2:57, by GnomeSlice
I slept most of the day.
LIAR

12:57 AM
@OrigamiRobot When I say I 'sleep', it's 'lie in bed dreamlessly, usually not even unconscious'.

@OrigamiRobot The fact that you had to go all the way back to 2010 for that saddens me.

@GnomeSlice How poetic

When I DO sleep, I don't even reach stage 4
So I feel unrested in the morning.
Feels like I haven't slept at all.

@GnomeSlice IIRC, stage 4 isn't important

@OrigamiRobot No, it's very important.
You feel exhausted without it.
It also means I don't dream.
Anyway, dinner.

1:02 AM
@GnomeSlice Yea, I thought there were only 4 stages and I remembered that the last stage isn't important.

@Origami Well, and they never did quite decide where REM belongs.

@GnomeSlice Everybody dreams. Dreams don't just occur during REM sleep. They're just easier for us to remember at that stage.

@Origami But no, stage IV is delta sleep. Very important.

The fact that @GnomeSlice doesn't reach REM sleep just means he's forever stuck in the stage that bedwetting more commonly occurs.

@Fluttershy That's exactly what I was typing.

1:04 AM
@winterswift <3

What could be causing this?
It only seems to be happening in Gmail. Scrollbars everywhere else appear to behave normally
It's only a visual defect. If I hover over the scrollbar or unfocus the window, it's gone

@YiJiang'sEvilClone Looks like they might be trying to do some fancy processing with scroll position which is causing invalid draws on the scrollbar? (best guess)

@YiJiang'sEvilClone That's rather amusing

It's a bug reporting captcha. If you don't report the bug in the next three hours Chrome bans you forever from the dev channel

Let me try refreshing
Yeah, well... that's not Chrome
Hmmm, still there. Ah well.

1:19 AM
If it's Firefox you then have thirteen seconds
go!

Bzzzt time's up! To Firefox 3.0 with you!

@fbueckert ok - this computer is not robust enough to handle launching my spaceships

@TrentHawkins My computer isn't robust enough to launch your monstrosities.

@YiJiang'sEvilClone Hmm, status-norepro here, my guess would be that your theme is too extreme for Firefox.

1:21 AM
@fbueckert it hangs for about a minute, then I hear explosions - then some stuttering, then 5 minutes later the explosions stop.

Hey, Firefox is the one that killed 64 bit Windows builds because they were a waste of testers'and QA's time

@badp IE is now the only Windows browser that has a 64bit version
Oh, and Opera, I think

Yep
I guess we have Flash to thank about that

demands all the bits

heh, everyone is always hatin' on the flash lol
They're focusing on games atm anyway lol

1:27 AM

Thing is Adobe shouldn't just abandon Flash like it's just not their problem

cc @AshleyNunn
I'm also amused that the library is called the "Manly Library"

@badp Also, maybe not true?

@badp I wonder if they might be replacing it with AIR over time.
@badp I haven't seen plans for an AS4, so...

a lot of stuff relies on Flash and removing support from the player only works going forward

1:28 AM
@badp heh, maybe, but with the mobile push going on, only so many resources you can dedicate to something that won't ever be able to run on your iphone
@winterswift AIR is flash for desktop basically... It's all actionscript

@ktash Yeah, but it can support JS, can't it?

@ktash how about all flash animations made in the last dozen years? Do we just abandon them in the name of what's shinier?

@badp Not just shiner, but better

@ktash Excuse my ignorance about all this, I haven't touched anything even remotely Flash-related in a long time.

1:30 AM
@winterswift I didn't think so. AS in ECMAScript, which is the same thing JS is, but I don't think AIR runs JS

Oh wait, that was the wrong project.
>_>

@Ktash Not exactly. AS 3.0 is based off ECMAScript 4, which was abandoned

@Tim that's something that requires the owner to do something. It won't scale

Your browser's JavaScript is implemented from ECMAScript 5. AS 3.0 shaked things up enough that the code doesn't look much like JavaScript anymore

They should have made their animations web scale to begin with.

1:32 AM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Less abandoned, and more refocused on ECMAScript 6, which isn't AS, so kind of yes

@saint perhaps. Still not worth binning a dozen years of good stuff made in flash

@TimStone with distributed cloud-based storage and computing!

But more seriously, obviously legacy Flash content doesn't require continued development in Flash, just for Flash to still exist as-is.

But, with no apparent plans for AS4, what would they replace it with?

@YiJiang'sEvilClone sprinkles on extra buzz-words for flavour

1:32 AM
@badp You could always write your own flash handling code in JS ;)

@TimStone The problem is, flash as is doesn't work on newer devices

@SaintWacko Which is often a choice by the devices, not by Adobe
E.x. Apple

@tim see availability and support of x64 flash for android, Mac, Linux, window, iOS, ...

@OrigamiRobot Yeah, I was just looking at that, they look awesome. The black ones look as good as I was hoping

or even just any support for most platforms

1:34 AM
@Ktash Well if to choose flash is to choose stagnation, I'm glad they're not choosing flash

@SaintWacko Choosing flash wasn't choosing stagnation until devices stopped choosing flash
so Adobe focuses more on html5
Now it is a vicious circle

@Ktash What would devices have had to do to choose flash that they didn't do?

I am happy that, going forward, flash is not an option. That doesn't mean obsolescing flash by making it incompatible with everything a good idea

@SaintWacko The iPhone would have had to support flash. The decision by Apple to not support it, and the explosion of the iDevices has made flash start to become less and less in use

Q: Minecraft pocket edition Galaxy TxT

SydculThe Minecraft pocket edition demo doesn't work on my Samsung Galaxy TxT. Is the screen too small? My Android version is 2.3.5. I really like the game and want to play it on my phone!

1:37 AM
@badp But by not actively working on it, wouldn't they be making it obsolete, since they have to maintain it for the new hardware?

This question is crap

@SaintWacko Yea I got 3 black and 3 red

I don't even see a question

@badp I'm not sure what it is you're looking for then in what Flash should become lol
Should it be supported and developed, or should it be left as an older compatibility thing

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I'm pretty sure JavaScript in modern browsers is based on Mozilla LiveScript and the voodoo that is DOM.

1:38 AM
It should remain what it is for the sake of all the content that requires it
with as much availability

So how is that different from the current method of going about things?

@badp Sure, but who is going to develop it for new platforms? I don't think you can argue that Adobe has an obligation to keep doing that, especially if they're not making money doing so
@Powerlord It's gotten a lot further than that

@badp Hmm, I thought Flash Player 11 had native x64 support?

Well then who is going to let us have continued access to that content? They have the code base, the patents and the monopoly on the topic

In fact, I wasn't even aware ECMAScript 5 was even out, simply because no one codes to it.

1:41 AM
@badp Flash is an open format, you know that right?

it's their moral obligation to maintain the software instead of abandoning ship like they did on Android

@Powerlord Eh? Stuff like Array.forEach and Object.create can be used now, if you ignore old IE versions

@ktash on paper, sure. In practice though?

@badp So, is that Adobe's fault no one else developed for it?

@ktash Let's remember what happened to the other company that developed for it.
@ktash Their name was Macromedia.

1:43 AM
And they are now a part of Adobe lol

@winterswift Uh...

@YiJiang'sEvilClone Those were defined in JavaScript 1.6, published by Mozilla in 2006.

Flash was Macromedia's product. Adobe aquired Macromedia.

EcmaScript 5 was published in 2009.

@YiJiang'sEvilClone That made me sad.

1:44 AM
@TimStone Why's that?

@YiJiang'sEvilClone That's sort of my point. I was half-joking, but Adobe acquired the product from its sole creator, and therefore I think it's their responsibility to maintain it.

what I do know is that we run a very real risk of barring ourselves from accessing Flash, the good and the bad of it, in the next ten years, and we should not be happy about it.

@Powerlord Yes, well that's JavaScript for you.

@Ktash I liked Macromedia :P

Hopefully IE's new release cycle will make things better

1:44 AM
@TimStone Haha, and not a fan of Adobe?

Not as much, no, but.

You do the blame pinning game, I know I don't like what Adobe is doing here with its product

I'm just going to throw a NaRQ vote at that Minecraft PE question

if you don't feel entitled to show your children where, say, tower defence games were born that's your own problem :-P

@badp It'll be like dusting off the old Commodore 64 in your basement

1:47 AM
Haha, I'm just trying to understand your position. No hard feelings meant lol

@YiJiang'sEvilClone You're right, it's kind of something you do once and forget about. Which is what VirtualBox and a copy of Windows XP is for.

@yij I had an Amiga computer when I was three. The floppy disk reader only lasted three years :'(

Flash is a platform that found its place in the late 90's and early 2000's by giving developers great resources to work with. HTML5 is working towards those same goals for the future so now Flash has to find it's place or step aside

@ktash And clearly if Apple has anything to say about it, Flash doesn't have much of a future.

@ktash, for the last time, my point is not about new stuff in the next decade but about old stuff from the last decade

1:49 AM
@winterswift Steve Jobs had his say, and it has wrought its damage lol

When another company had mouths your product you make it better, you make it relevant, you don't kill it
Adobe killed it because Adobe killed it

@badp Haha, flash isn't dead, it's evolving

Steve Jobs has not very much to do with it

Adobe is making it relevant again, but doing so by not trying to compete with HTML 5

That is not making Flash relevant again as I doubt it works on compiled swf files
That is making its creative suite and Action script relevant again. That's a different product

1:53 AM
@badp ?? Now I'm not sure what you're talking about?

@badp Haha, "creative suit."

user image
2
Shoot, you edited it. =/

revamping the creator tools to also produce "html5" does little for what content already has been produced

Q: i am stuck and cant go any where

user41218I am at the throne room for turinok, and at the arch way to go in is a magic barrier, and at the entrace to leave is one also, I am a lvl 36 warrior, and can't leave or go forward, I'm stuck..

1:57 AM
Heh, well, I can see I won't change your thinking here. It's about where the money is, and how Flash will survive going forward
old content is still supported and will continue to be so

If old content would be supported going forward I wouldn't have any problem

... Also, just as a disclaimer, since I feel this is necessary at this point, this is all my opinion and in no way represents anything official lol

my whole point is that support going forward of old content won't happen

@badp Why not?

Oh, you're an Adobe employee? Ah ha. :P

1:59 AM
because as you said yourself it's not where the money is
Adobe supported Android and now it doesn't

Why'd they kill the Open Screen Project? Huh? HUH!? ;)

@badp Believe me, there is still a long ways to go before old content isn't supported lol
@TimStone Haha, never heard of it ;)

Aw, sounds like Once Upon a Time is taking a 3 week break

@Powerlord :(

If you want flash on new Android things you need Firefox and sideloading

2:01 AM
after tonight that is

grabbing the relevant apk file from random strangers on the internet

@badp I thought it's the default browser
I use CM10, and the only thing Flash will work with is the default Android browser

The default browser is nowhere to be found on the flagship Nexus 7

@Powerlord Those always suck.

Chrome flat out refuses to support it

2:03 AM
Flash on mobile has been discontinued because that market is every evolving and forward looking

Yeah, I don't think Chrome has support for plugins at all

In other news... Holy hell To The Moon is the saddest game I've ever played. T_T

@Fluttershy Cried? :P

also Adobe dropped support from Linux

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I'm like halfway through it and I'm just all like.... Waugh! ._.

2:03 AM
@badp Not entirely true. But yeah, that news is crazy

with the one exception of Chrome for Linux
so yeah, this is not how a company behaves when it's looking forward to maintain its product for the foreseeable future
this is planned obsolescence. Flash is already fading away

Flash in 2004 was available everywhere. Flash in 2008 only worked on desktop. Flash in 2012 only works on Windows and OS X.

@badp Have you been to Youtube lately? ;)

yeah, just tonight, using the Android native app ;-)

haha, fair enough

2:06 AM
YouTube is already migrating away from Flash, it just hadn't done so with regards to advertisements
not on the desktop anyway

Yes, they have been for some time
still waiting for the browsers to catch up though

so even that much has its days numbered

Heh, well, if Flash is really dying, no one told the Flash team :)

the Flash team probably knows better than us indeed, not sure if it's at liberty to discourse it though ;-)

But, as it is an open format, if you are that worried, you can always make your own .swf player

2:09 AM
this is very nice and fuzzy in theory, if I'd ever seen a third party flash player that worked

@badp I don't think they are quite ready yet, but as I said earlier, you can always check out the game dev stuff

don't you think that if such a thing existed, all the various Linux distros would just ship with it?

heh, probably
Adobe did a good job being ubiquitous though, so I don't think many people felt the desire to go head to head with them
@TimStone I don't even see that on the list of discontinued projects lol

They kind of swept the closure under the rug, the site just redirects to the list of Flash runtimes now.

when did it get canned?
a few years ago?

2:15 AM
Wikipedia claims sometime in 2012

oh, hmm, interesting
Yeah, I never heard of it
big company though, so not really a surprise. Also, I haven't even been there a year, so if it was on its way out, then that also probably makes sense

So my reward for being awake at three am is hearing my computer turn on on its own
I guess it's not also shutting down on its own, eh?
Although it didn't turn on the screen

@badp Install all the updates!

heh, maybe it's haunted

wish it would install all the updates
Windows 8 almost refuses to do so unless you also reboot

2:20 AM
Eww, windows 8.. I'm sorry

Shutting down doesn't count
unless three days have passed

@badp and it's the second Tuesday of the month?

Windows 8 is awesome. This is a discussion for another day though, when I can use a real keyboard
I had the same problem in Windows 7 for what it's worth
Ubuntu OTOH just fails to wake
Night.

g'night
sleep better than your computer

Q: What is a Color4 property?

Ярослав РахматуллинSometimes various 3D object models (NIF files) will have a color property defined. They consist of 8 hexadecimal digits. For example: #9aceff59 I could assume that fourth integer (place 7 and 8) is used to represent the transparency of a color, but would rather hear from someone who knows more...

2:30 AM
... didn't we just get back from a break?? Why is Once Upon a Time not on this week?!

@Ktash It was just on... <_<

I thought @Powerlord said it wasn't new?

@Ktash No, it's on hiatus for 3 weeks after today

oooh, ok, that's better
still not great though

@Powerlord I can download Zero Escape directly on my PS Vita. Which is pretty awesome.

2:35 AM
@Fluttershy I prefer to call it Virtue's Last Reward, because they retroactively renamed the first game Zero Escape as well.

@Powerlord Oh really? Is that why the 999 cover is considered a limited edition?

@Fluttershy I wasn't aware it was considered a limited edition.
Seeing as how the game sold for two years with the original cover.

@Powerlord I wasn't either, but @FAE said that's what she heard when she bought her copy.

2:47 AM
> i'm not modeling just casually listening to selena gomez.

3:06 AM
@OrigamiRobot I wish I could have seen what they looked like before I filled out my survey. I would have done the same

@SaintWacko What did you get?

3:42 AM
@agent86 Plink

Just in case anyone is feeling cold, tomorrow is supposed to be -42 with the windchill.

#fbueckert Fahrenheit, I hope?
@fbueckert That came out as a hashtag.

Today is a glorious day.
I could watch this gif all night.

@winterswift At -40, it doesn't much matter.

The new Metal drift deck looks great.

3:48 AM
@fbueckert I see your point. Whereabouts are you situated?

@winterswift Winnipeg. Middle of flatland country.

@winterswift Deepest darkest soviet canuckistan.

Still doesn't like being alt-tabbed though I see.

@LessPop_MoreFizz That's fantastic

@TimStone I love this gif so much

3:55 AM
@fbueckert Oh hey, you're only ~2300 miles from me.

@winterswift You can come south, and it will get colder as you get closer.
-42 is cold enough to freeze exposed skin in a few minutes.

@fbueckert It is somewhat ironic that I'm 11.3 degrees north of you, and it's 28F outside.

@winterswift Oceans moderate temperatures something fierce.

@fbueckert Indeed. Unlike those pesky Great Lakes.

@winterswift The lakes do, too, but you have to be closer, because they're smaller.
And I'm nowhere near them, anyways.
