12:02 AM
I just stumbled across an answer by user2974.... sniff

12:13 AM
hooz that
tzen?

@NickT Powerlord

User 2974. NEVAR FORGET.
8

@FAE A Normandy?

FAE
@RavenDreamer no :P

@RavenDreamer An Iwo Jima?

FAE
12:23 AM
@NickT That is also a frigate like the Normandy!

@FAE the Sivir in the LoL game I just lost said that he was playing poorly because his roommate was downloading GW2

FAE
@RavenDreamer ...lol

And in resultant googling, I have stumbled upon the fact that what I was doing in the last beta weekend was not the WvWvW I thought I was playing.

FAE
@RavenDreamer Did you do structured instead?

@FAE I think so.

FAE
12:29 AM
@RavenDreamer Did you have all your class skills unlocked?
And were you doing 5v5 or something?

It auto-leveled me and unlocked everything, and it was two teams so I think so.
Yup

FAE
@RavenDreamer structured then yeah

I didn't know how to stop that.
At the end of each round, it was like "Okay, now you're playing again"
"But I want to..."
"YOU"RE PLAYING AGAIN!"
"...*meep*..."

FAE
@RavenDreamer lol

...it still bugs me how much the ending ruined Mass Effect for me.
>.>

FAE
12:33 AM
@RavenDreamer I hardly even play the MP cuz of that even though it's only tangential.

@FAE Hehe. My brain has some funny logic about that.
For me it's, "Oh no, the galactic readiness is falling! My ERS is gonna suck!"
"Wait a minute, ERS means jack diddly. Guess I don't need to play MP after all"

FAE
@RavenDreamer Well, my friends still like to play it, so I play with them, but I never play by myself.

It boggles my mind the deductions scientists can deduce from looking at light from the sky. (Re: Planets, finding them, determining their composition, etc.)

@RavenDreamer what, weather forecasts/determining wind speed on extrasolar planets is boggling?

To me, yes.

12:49 AM
I like determining the positions of several thousand atoms to within ~0.02 nanometers with the aid of a particle accelerator that's 1 mile in circumference

I am so close to understanding computers.
I just need a coherent explanation of how we take the 1's and 0's and perform different operations based on which byte code we're looking at.
But now I'm just babbling.

I have 8/16-bit computers fairly well figured out, the whole pipelining/caching thing still miffs me

sooo my neighborhood Best Buy is closing...and today...I bought a new monitor :) Yayyyy

the ops just get fed into a decoder that operates all the 'valves' that shuffle the data around

oh and I didn't mention is was ONLY 107 DOLLARS

12:52 AM
how big?

I am anticipating @spugsley's answer to be worded in such a way that "That's what she said" and out of context stars will result.
:P

@NickT 23 inchessssssssss
3
@RavenDreamer you give me too much credit :p

@spugsley I am a young virile male, still aflush with hormones. What can I say? :P

Q: How are the "featured" matches to spectate chosen?

Nick TWith the new Spectator Patch for League of Legends, spectating normal and ranked games is now possible. You can either watch a game your friends are in or there are also 5 "featured" games going on at the home screen. Are these just random ranked games? Those at the top of the ladder? If the ...

Q: Why does cloak sometimes fail?

BrysonicWhile playing Mass Effect 3 multiplayer as an infiltrator, about 30% of the time that I use Tactical Cloak it turns itself off within a second, triggering the cooldown again. Is this a bug that other people have experienced? Is there a way to keep it from happening?

Q: How can we get people to join our minecraft server and get money to keep it up?

ImATastyAppleMy friend has a minecraft server (Vitalitycraft) IP: vitalitycraft.com:25577 and it will shut down soon because we are not getting enough players. We also will need a lot of donations, but PLEASE can someone help us? We REALLY need money and the server is very important to us :C

@RavenDreamer Apparently, you can say "That's what she said"

12:54 AM
Hi, @TimStone!

@TimStone bahahaha

'Ello, 'ello, how is everyone this fine evening?

@TimStone LIKE A BOSS

"Tim Stone" sounds like a guy that sells ice cream

with my new monitor :)

12:55 AM
Slow. It took me a minute to figure out what you meant.
@NickT "(AT) Tim Stone" sounds like a fantasy TV show hero.

@TimStone Just lurking. Letting people think I'm not following the conversation.

Attim Stone in... Wünderkind and the Sword of Awesome!

@Lazers these matches are definitely not high level

@spugsley I bet, that's a pretty sweet deal on that monitor. Seems a bit inconvenient that your Best Buy is closing though, they should have given you more bossly deals.

this morg can't dodge TF's Q to save her life

12:57 AM
@John I do that a lot too, good times.

@TimStone it is definitely inconvenient but my disappointment is curbed by shiny new toys...at least for now

@NickT Of the many things I'll pretend to be known for, selling ice cream is not one of them.
@spugsley I can only imagine why this was starred. That aside, the solution of course is to win more contests and get more shiny things for free, thereby removing the need for a Best Buy-like experience altogether. nods

@TimStone I am trying to plan a new game to make. Got a month's downtime between graduation and start of job.

Oh, nice. :D I wish I had some downtime.

@TimStone You don't want to imagine why it was starred. Just don't.

1:00 AM
I was supposed to be drinking Tea with @FAE in Europe, but alas, that fell through thanks to my brother loving $ more than going to Europe.

So, Gaming.SE Portal 2 test chamber making contest?

@spugsley I found it funnier after someone went back and starred your 23 inches comment.
since they now appear on top of each other on the starred list

@RavenDreamer Hey! Don't try to make my new, 23 inch toy into something dirty!

@RavenDreamer Ah, Europe's also good times. Getting there is a bit pricey though.

omg. I wish the whole world was made of chocolate.
I am ashamed at how much chocolate I've eaten today.

FAE
1:03 AM
@RavenDreamer I see how it is, you just don't want to meet me. ;_;

@FAE I want to meet you so hard! It's just not meant to be
For posterity

:4488176 I'll allow it

No. Bad Raven Dreamer.

Hmm, speaking of Europe, I wonder if I should plan a vacation this year, or if I can convince my friends to come visit me for once.

Mind, gutter, out of it.

1:05 AM
fines @RavenDreamer for littering

I'm picking something out of the gutter, no need for the fine! :(

FAE
@RavenDreamer Interesting choice of words there, sir

@RavenDreamer am I the gutter in this analogy?

@spugsley What would that make my mind?

@RavenDreamer Let's try to keep it G-Rated please.

1:07 AM
@Wipqozn YOU

@spugsley Yes, me.

@FAE You're lucky it occurred to me that I shouldn't leave it as only the first sentence. :P

@spugsley My not being sure how to interpret this comment almost made me spit out beer. BEER. You should be ashamed.

@EBongo, display persistence, our old nemesis :)

@spugsley They say Prop 1 is gonna pass :(

1:08 AM
@RavenDreamer I guess I don't want to know

FAE
@RavenDreamer Having one of those days eh?

@RavenDreamer Which is?

@RavenDreamer you can't be serious...god, I hate this fucking state

@RavenDreamer Boo :/

people need to ask questions about weird worlds. I know like, everything about that game.
@Wipqozn probably legalizing baby seal clubbing

1:08 AM
@Wipqozn Constitutional Amendment to define marriage in NC.

that or giving everyone cancer.

@RavenDreamer but it's wayyyy more than that.
so complicated

(I trust Nate Silver. Hope he's wrong, though)

@TimStone NOT THE BEER!

1:09 AM
@spugsley It does something else?

@spugsley I KNOW! Don't make me get @LessPopMoreFizz over here.

@FAE At least I'm enjoying myself.

Based on this politics stuff, I can see why my uncle moved to Vermont.

@RavenDreamer oh geez, where do I start? There's a bunch of ill things coming out of it. Like a lot of children are going to lose health insurance, many people will lose their hospital visitation rights, a ton of domestic violence verdicts are going to be overturned. It's insane

@Wipqozn the TLDR of it is: "On Tuesday, North Carolina will vote on a state constitutional amendment that declares, “Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized,” thereby banning recognition of same-sex marriage, civil unions and domestic partnerships of any kind."
@spugsley Geezus
@StrixVaria Do you live in NC? I've forgotten.

1:11 AM
@RavenDreamer No, NJ.

I'm confusing you with Origami Robot, aren't I?
2
Gosh darn you Girs!

@RavenDreamer Yes.

@RavenDreamer Yes :P

1:12 AM
@RavenDreamer read this as "girl" and was completely lost.

I like girls.
Hell, I like people.

The problem is that politicians and activists pushing for this are saying things like "Gay marriage should be illegal!" But it already IS illegal in NC. People think that passing this bill makes it legal, which isn't true. It just takes away all their rights and the rights of any family that isn't married under the correct NC law circumstances (ie: couples who have been together for 10+ years and have children together have zero rights)

Does that make me a monster?

Yes

@RavenDreamer Finally. I'm so sick of people having the right to be treated as human beings just because they are human beings!
But yeah, in other words. It's the same old shit in the US? herp derp we hate them there gays, worship jesus, et cetera.

1:15 AM
@Wipqozn Well no, this is worse, because it's already illegal. The amendment will just make things worse for everyone because of the language in the amendment. See @spugsley's comments

@RavenDreamer exactly.

There are also poor folks who think it unbans gay marriage.
Voter ignorance is kinda a problem.

I don't find any of this surprising.
This is nothing new.

@Wipqozn sadly, neither do I. Can you make room for me up in Canada?

@spugsley Sure. Although with Stephen Harper in power we've been going down hill.

1:18 AM
I have my eye set on Sweeden.

Japan's nice too

I need to figure out how to do early voting and/or remember to do so Tuesday.

I would move outside of the US in a second if given the opportunity. I have zero patriotism

@spugsley I can't blame you.

Patriotism and nationalism are pretty meaningless. It's not like dancing the "our country is great" parade accomplishes anything.

1:21 AM
@skovacs1 but Amurika

@skovacs1 it does if you watch Faux News

@Krazer agree, but I think it's time we move beyond politics.
So how 'bout them games, hunh?

@Krazer I honestly don't know how they get away with calling themselves a news station. Isn't that false advertisement or something?

GoW could be Gears or God of War - Is there a better set of acronyms to differentiate them?

breaking news: a horse with an elf hitchhiker won bags of money in one of America's poorest states today. Drinks were served. Hats worn.

1:24 AM
@RavenDreamer Agree. I did kind of like where the conversation was going before @Wipqozn was a G-rated, party pooper
jk :)

Also, I'm reading through Akira (almost done volume 4), and I must say that it's pretty damn enjoyable.

So what every happened to those Myst-like games? I haven't seen a notable one in a while...

There were notable ones?

@Wipqozn I believe They won a case in canadian court proving they didn't have to report the truth.

@spugsley that was a joke! I was hoping we'd all delve into some super crazy cyber.

1:24 AM
@Wipqozn They classify pretty much all of their programs as "for entertainment purposes," but someone forgot to tell everyone who watches them.

@Krazer they're more indie now than they were before.

@spugsley Charlotte's not that far away. :p

@TimStone People who watch them probably don't know how to read anyways.

also I think some of the higher profile ones tended to break from tradition - see Heavy Rain, for example.

user20683
@Krazer Amnesia the Dark Descent and the ilk

1:25 AM
@LessPopMoreFizz Hullo to you, sir.

user20683
they've not gone anywhere just lower profile

but then again, Double Fine just got their adventure game massively overfunded.

Wait, that's what an adventure game is?

@skovacs1 There was Syberia games, Thier Games, 7th Guest, Journeyman Project, etc.

@RavenDreamer better come quickly @IanPugsley gets home in an hour. Oh what the hell, the more the merrier!
2
wow

1:26 AM
@spugsley Uh oh, are we going to have to call @IanPugsley in here for a cage match?

user20683
@RavenDreamer most of what Lucas Arts used to do. All of what Telltale does

@Krazer 7th Guest was free the other day!

user20683
Longest Journey

that first part was unintentional

user20683
Dreamfall

1:26 AM

yay dirty puns!

I remember 7th Guest

@LessPop_MoreFizz I know I got it. :) Nice does of nostalgic gaming~

there's also all the TellTale games - BTTF/Monkey Island/Walking Dead/Sam & Max/etc

@spugsley I'd say the Wife of Bath would be proud, but I think she'd be less subtle.

user20683
1:27 AM
Gabriel Knight, Sanitorium

user20683
*Sanitarium?

@LessPop_MoreFizz ... d'oh.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Lol the last one was pretty awful

1:28 AM
I remember that series. I never played the last one - it just looked so bad that I couldn't do it.

I've only played one LSL game, and it was more minigame focused than adventure game-y.

@WorldEngineer Oh that would be soooooooooooooooooooo awesome

okay, I'm finally beating ME3, and I'm at the Cerberus base and it's telling me to "Escape the Hanger" with no visible way out... any tips?

user20683
@Krazer I'd love to see a crazy threeway with the Journeyman Project, System Shock and Marathon

@LessPop_MoreFizz I have never heard of this but I am intrigued if only because of how terrible it looks

1:31 AM
@WorldEngineer That would be sooooooooooooooooo awesome.

@Ktash have you turned the fighter around yet?

@spugsley You have never heard of Leisure Suit Larry?
HE IS A LEGEND

FAE
@Krazer I really liked that game

@RavenDreamer Yes, and my guess would be to launch it, but I have no idea how

user20683
Durandal vs Shodan across time and space

1:32 AM
@Ktash Eurgh. Yeah, there's a console. I think you need to climb back up to the catwalk computer. But I could be wrong.
Unless the computer that turned the fighter around was on the catwalk, which means the other computer is on the ground.

@RavenDreamer You're right, found it on the ground. Thanks
Fun bug, when you are piloting a Cerberus mech, the interface always has broken glass, even if you didn't have to break the glass lol

I HATE WRITING!! ARGGHHHHHH

@spugsley This. Totally this.

@spugsley I read that last part in the "Ahhh" you used for your binding of issac videos... must less frustrated sounding

@Ktash as you should because that's my regular-sounding voice :p sad, I know

1:47 AM
@spugsley Haha, yeah. Your screams of terror when you ran into flies makes your hate of writing seem equally terrifying ;)

@Ktash oh, it's more terrifying. I think that's why @IanPugsley isn't home tonight. He knew I'd be writing and he wanted to be a safe distance away

@spugsley Lol

also, I just ate an entire box of Snow Caps. I hate myself.

@spugsley Aren't you an English major or something? Isn't writing like...what you do?

Ooh, I had snow caps yesterday, they were delicious :)

1:48 AM
@TimStone it is! And I'm damn good at it! But anger, hatred, and frustration motivates me :)

Hahah, I see. LET THERE BE RAGE!

@TimStone THANK YOU! I NEEDED MORE RAGE!

Just think of the flies!

@TimStone I have nightmares about flies. And babies. Recently, I had a nightmare about fly-babies. Not like a baby fly, but like a baby with a fly head.

That does sound like the stuff of nightmares

1:52 AM
OH! My favorite baby nightmare: I was journeying across a post-apocolptic wasteland and I found this beat up, plastic baby doll half buried in the ground. And when I uncovered it's face, it said in the deepest male voice I have ever heard, "Your gift includes a baby."

Thanks, now those are going to be in my nightmares

I wish I could send sounds over the internet because it was fucking terrifying. You'd never sleep again. I don't

@spugsley Clearly it means you want to sleep with James Earl Jones.
2

@Sterno who doesn't?
and don't lie!

Q: Permalinking flash games

Piotr MigdalIt is common that a flash game is on multiple websites, e.g. Newgrounds, Armor Games or Kongregate, among countless others. Is there a good way of referencing a flash game so one can point to it unambiguously and access (or share) it in the future? In particular, is there any website trusted an...

1:54 AM
It is true.

@spugsley Now I am stuck thinking of the last volume of A Canticle for Liebowitz.
and the fetus conjoined to the tomato sellers head that is supposed to be the second coming.

@LessPop_MoreFizz And I'm stuck looking at pictures of James Earl Jones and imagining him saying "Your gift includes a baby." I didn't think this could get any more terrifying but it just did

@spugsley I like my nightmare better.
It has gravitas.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I love that word
it's on my list of words that I would have sex with if it was a person
where is @Wipqozn?!?!?! He's supposed to keep my chatting G-rated!!!

@spugsley I'm reading Akira.
Almost done Volume 5.

2:01 AM
@Wipqozn a good reason. I'll allow it

If you're interested in an article about how the indie game Defender's Quest did in sales, this is good
I love reading about game sales

@Sterno Sounds like something which may interest @GnomeSlice. I know he loves his indie gaming.

we need more chatting so that I can justify not writing

chats about nothing

This morning I had oatmeal

2:09 AM
@Ktash how did you have said oatmeal?

This morning I had sleep.

@John this morning I had work :(

@Krazer Made with milk, eaten with a spoon

@Ktash intriguing

@Ktash mmm... any toppings?

2:11 AM
@Krazer Pssh, toppings? What do I look like a fancy person?
If I wanted toppings, I'd've made waffles ;)

@Ktash Yes. Indeed I do.

@Ktash WAFFLES!!!!!

@spugsley :(

@Ktash Waffles aren't a topping!!! They're a side dish. An important one, too.

@spugsley Of the Belgian variety

2:12 AM
@Ktash drools

@Krazer @waffles are a meal in and of themselves.

@Krazer I guess in my gravatar, I do look a little fancy
Waffles are a meal, bacon is the side dish
Strawberries and whip cream are the toppings

@John I agrees, waffles, like ice cream, makes the meal.
@Ktash bacon goes well with everything

I'm working on a short story. Yesterday, I thought it was brilliant. Today, I fucking hate it. That's why I despise writing

@spugsley This is what happens to everything I ever write.

2:18 AM
@StrixVaria much like @Wipqozn, it's the worst

@spugsley What's the premise of the story?

user2334
Did it start with "It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents — except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness."? If not, it's not the worst worst.

@Krazer it's about self-injury
very dark

@spugsley do go on~

@MarkTrapp nope! It starts like this: "I was twelve the first time I saw my brother's scars. Thin, stark-white lines of varying lengths spread across his pale skin from wrist to shoulder. "

2:22 AM
@spugsley feels like there should be a bit more of a lead in before you reveal that they are indeed scars.

@Krazer it's about a younger sister dealing with her brother's depression and self-injury. It explores the concept of mental illness in teenagers and how the people in their lives are directly affected by their actions.
@Krazer can you think of another word that might get the point across without coming out and saying 'scars'?

@spugsley Sounds pretty interesting. I know I would probably read it.

@Krazer well thanks :) I waver between liking it and fucking hating the shit out of it :3

War. War never changes.

meh, actually, I like my opening. It's not a secret that the marks are scars. The story is a remembrance from the sister's perspective so I think that line actually works
helpful!!!
I like it again! WOOT!

2:27 AM
@spugsley I think that instead of calling out the scar right away you should describe the scar as something that is unknown and foreign to you, something you don't know what the word to describe it. I.E., By change you saw these strange marks on your brother... you describe this in detail, then smack the reader with... then I found out they were what you called scars. (Since it's about a girl that is 12, add a bit of naivety to it :p)
So getting back to gaming... what TV show or movie would (you think) actually make a pretty fun game to play or vice versa?

@LessPop_MoreFizz Go on, I'm curious about how it would play

@Krazer An MMO set in the Firefly universe.

@Krazer That was a link.

@LessPop_MoreFizz miss that, thanks thanks
@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm throwing money at the screen as I watch this

2:41 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm in love with this.

@Fluttershy like this? youtube.com/watch?v=DcPT9fMuTH8

Breaking Bad is the best show.

@LessPop_MoreFizz this

@LessPop_MoreFizz Yup, the show ties the humor, science, visuals, writing, acting, and music in together like no other show ever could.

@Krazer Except higher budget..

2:47 AM
Press B to eat breakfast.

@LessPop_MoreFizz that was the best part! hahaha

@spugsley Yup.

user2334
Heavy Rain? Press X to LessPop_MoreFizz.

@MarkTrapp I still wanna play Heavy Rain...

user2334
I got halfway done and then some other game came out. Keep meaning to finish it

2:51 AM
You know you play too much Heavy Rain when your phone rings and you automatically think press up

user2334
It's all right, but I went into it thinking it was a revolutionary game. Turns out it's like the 7th or 8th game to do the exact same thing, and the 3rd from the same studio
