I wish we could require comments on downvotes

@BrianColvin I don't. That's a silly thing to require.
Would you want to require comments on upvotes too?

No but upvotes don't drive question closures

@BrianColvin Uh...?

upvotes don't have a negative affect on the question..

11:05 PM
@BrianColvin But they have a positive effect on it. Why should they be treated differently?

Q: Who wants which gifts in the Witcher

kotekzotI want to know which gifts I should hang on to and, by exclusion, which gifts can be sold to merchants without fear of having to re-buy them to appease that one snotty NPC. So far I've seen the following: 1st act Trish: Trish's potion (obvs) (Buxom) peasant woman in the village on the outskir...

@BrianColvin Downvotes don't drive question closures either. They're just a happy coincidence

@Sterno I would disagree

@BrianColvin How so?

Requiring comments on downvotes would only lead to serial revenge downvoting

11:06 PM
@BrianColvin You'd be wrong :P

@Lazers What's the scope of this question? Having not played it, it's hard to tell. AKA is it too broad for a single huge answer?

They get downvotes because they're bad questions.
They get closed because they're bad questions.
The same thing causes 2 separate and independent actions.

FAE
@BrianColvin Remember that closing is a temporary state. Questions can be improved from there and reopened.

Without some sort of reason for downvoting how can the asker improve the question?

I tend to leave a comment on my downvotes if someone didn't already leave a comment that says what I would have, but that's not because I think people should have to. It's selfishly motivated by me not wanting to see the same thing repeated again elsewhere.

11:09 PM
@OrigamiRobot Could make it anonymous for all i care heh
I like seeing the explanation to new people on question closures/downvotes so they can learn how to improve them faster

@BrianColvin Yeah, it's pretty neat when it happens. But it shouldn't be required.
My downvotes are mine.
I will spend them how I like.

@StrixVaria Mine too.

Well explanations help better the community as a whole i would think

@BrianColvin So do downvotes, sometimes.
If a question quickly gets enough downvotes, it magically disappears off the main page.
For bad questions, that is a good thing.

I suppose, but those questions are obvious in most cases
Some questions I don't see anything wrong with, they get downvoted, I'm not sure why so I can't avoid making the same mistake

Q: How does "elemental" damage on weapons work with elemental skills?

OrigamiRobotI have a weapon that adds Holy damage. How does this work with my skills that say "Does X% of weapon damage as _ damage and things of that nature"? Example: My wand does 8-14 damage at 1.40 APS. It has +1-2 Holy Damage for a total DPS rating of 15.4. Ray of Frost deals 215% weapon damage as C...

It happens

Anyway maybe a requirement isn't the best option, but explanations help get newer members contributing faster

Why is @badp's gravatar next to the name "Fishnipples"?

@BrianColvin So do your part by explaining your downvotes when you feel it necessary.

@RavenDreamer It's a nod to bobince.

Well I don't always know why questions are downvoted, maybe i can spend some time looking over the question rules but still

11:17 PM
@RavenDreamer lol

@BrianColvin your downvotes.

I'm saddened bobince couldn't find the time to blog in 2011.

@badp Gah my eyes

I could've chosen 'Timothy Goatse' instead but I guess 'fishnipples' was the superior choice.

Why would gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/63803/… question get a downvote? is it off topic?

Never worry about one downvote, more than one usually means something, one could mean anything

Ah well, So has anyone seen a decent Hecarim player yet?

@badp i love that one

The champ is either underpowered or drawing alot of crappy players ~_~

Can anyone who's played The Witcher tell us how broad this question is? Having not played the game, I'm unsure whether or not its scope is too broad (as in will a single answer be too unwieldy for one person to put together) or not:

11:28 PM
@badp I would star that but I've probably already starred that picture in this chat

I get like 10 fps on Minecraft with my new laptop :(
All the settings are at minimum.

@StrixVaria cause minecraft is the shittiest coded game this decade lol

FAE
@StrixVaria Minecraft. Fun game, horrible programming.

It's pretty much the cheapest laptop I could find, too.
Which doesn't help.

11:30 PM
Do you really need more than 10fps in minecraft? hah

I'm also trying to play on a touchpad because I can't find an extra mouse.
Overall it's really annoying, but still playable on creative mode.
It's just constantly maxing one core.

FAE
@StrixVaria Optifine might help with that

@FAE Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try it out.

FAE
@StrixVaria It's got a bunch of other nice tweaks as well. If you're having poor performance in general on the laptop, maybe this'll help.

Does anyone know of a website where I can order a custom-built computer? (I.e., I pick the parts, they pre-assemble it for me?)
