usually there's a HR person and a hiring manager and sometimes another managed involved in these things, and they're not always communicating

also they probably are sending these messages en masse, so they may just have screwed up

This actually reminds me that I somewhat rudely forgot to reply to someone who sent me something on Careers once upon a time...whoops. >_>

@Sterno Click "improve tag wiki" when looking at the tag. It's broken into two text areas: the first one is for the summary/excerpt

John Skeet et al, and my own presence on this site, have sort of clouded me to what an "impressive" amount of rep is for a regular user.

@RavenDreamer I so hope that no one actually does that. If they do, I will find them and kick them in the shins.

@RavenDreamer I'm not sure it matters that much in general. Some places might care, but others would probably think it's a hobby that might interfere with your work duties

There are a number of relatively-high reputation users on Stack Overflow I would not hire in a million years.

I think most mature ones wouldn't give a damn.

@MarkTrapp That's what I normally do. And, for instance, I see that option on die2nite. But I don't see it on legend-of-grimrock

So I'd be much more inclined to look at what they've posted, regardless of reputation (although I will admit that having at least a few thousand is a good sign they have a basic understanding of something, at a minimum)

when it comes to your resume, they're spending around 6 seconds looking at the resume, and it's usually education, and maybe a quick glance at your experience to see if there's anything relevant. your SO rep being on there is probably a distraction at best

@RavenDreamer most places are going to make a fairly reasonable first offer. You might be able to get an additional 5-10% if you're OK with haggling a bit and you're also OK walking away if things go south

alternatively, you can ask for a bit more money and they might offer you options/stock/1-time bonus/etc

they may ask you for a number, and if you're not sure I wouldn't say anything

Also, I can't believe I went into the other room, washed a plate, and then returned to the computer without the food I had gotten up to get.

if you've done research on the jobs in the area or you've had another offer, you can probably make a reasonable guess, but I wouldn't just make up a number

I have just started my first run of Legends of Grimrock. I have in my party an insectoid mage with 3 points in Ice Magic. The tooltip shows me that, at level 3, it should have a spell, marked with 3 question marks (???). How can I know which spell it is and how to cast it?
