Do I also need to add you all in social.bioware?

@Oak Thats ok.. Ill take D3 off your hands for you.. I do not mind doing my part for your thesis :)

they are different systems?

FAE
@JuanManuel they are, yeah

LOL I was like, That looks like a Twinkie... wait a second.. T W.. It is a twinkie! :)

@oak What are you writing your thesis on?

Oak
7:02 PM
@Stephen source code analysis and data mining, largely

There I am now caught up on my Draw Somethings.. Except for you @RonanForman.. I need to give that one a bit more thought :)

@Tristan No idea.

Is that an asynchronous pictionary?

FAE
@GraceNote yes

@FAE you're not FAE0611 there

FAE
7:04 PM
@JuanManuel on BSN? I am not

@FAE I see, I see

@FAE that's where the leaderboards are, they should be linked... stupid origin

@GraceNote Its person to person and according to the question I asked yesterday you can have 20 games running at once :)

@Ullallulloo On origin?

@RonanForman yes

7:06 PM

@Ullallulloo I have him

FAE
@JuanManuel Found you there and added you

@Oak I go to see a professor tomorrow about an opportunity to study theory of computation ... mostly computability over abstract algebras

@James Thanks! (for the Vic-20 game price)

@FAE ha, completely different name

7:08 PM

FAE
@JuanManuel Yeeeep. It's from my NWN account way back, pre-BSN existence.
Anywho, afk for dinner, later all

@Ullallulloo I had the same problem ... with a few people ... oddly. I sent requests by cherrypicking from Juan's friends list.

@Stephen Oh, I can find him there.

Oak
@Stephen i.e. study that for some graduate degree?

@oak Yes ... I'm hoping to be working at a M.Sc. soon

Q: Should Pix be able to intercept Caitlyn's ultimate?

MarceloAs Caitlyn, I used my ultimate on a very low health Lulu that had her skills (including her ultimate) on cooldown. She started to run away, my ultimate went off, and my ultimate did not hurt her even one bit. She and I couldn't believe what happened. We came to the conclusion that Pixie had inte...

@James I can't remember what mine was now.

@StrixVaria Because the behavior was odd and likely a bug, or because it's working on a premise of not fully understanding what does or does not block Caitlyn's ultimate and consequently how Pix operates?

@GraceNote Asking "Is this a bug?" is a bad question.
We don't know.
We're not the developers.

Oak
@Stephen good luck then :) what you describe is a bit too abstract for me, I tend to favor very down-to-earth, programmatic approaches

@StrixVaria Also, it's probably confirmation bias

7:16 PM
He's not even sure if that was what happened.
@OrigamiRobot You can't have confirmation bias with a single sample. It relies on multiple instances confirmed.

@GraceNote There is a real question hidden here; he just didn't ask one.

@oak I've already worked creating optimized math libraries and currently in real time controls ... I intend to keep all my hobby programming projects good and practical :)

@StrixVaria Sounds like we should work towards that angle, then

@GraceNote Close first. Fix second. Reopen after it's fixed.

@DavRob60 I hope that was the right one! :)

7:18 PM
Is that not the proper workflow?

@oak With source code analysis are you looking for structures and patterns that can be used for inventing optimizations or something different?

@GraceNote I think he is interpreting the evidence to fit his preconception. That is confirmation bias.

@RonanForman Ill figure it out I think :)

@OrigamiRobot He's asking if that's what happened. If it were bias, he'd actually be asserting that that is actually what happened.

@GraceNote He is saying that's what happened and then asking if it is a bug.
> We came to the conclusion that Pixie had intercepted the ultimate. Is this intended behavior, or probably just a horrible bug?

7:20 PM
He said he came to that conclusion. Not saying definitively that that is definitely what happened.

Oak
@Stephen yes we search for patterns, but for different goals, not optimization

Nevermind we've all the mechanical proof in front of us to markate the fact that it ain't what happened.

@GraceNote He is asking if his conclusion is a bug. That is asserting that his conclusion is correct, IMO.

I fixed the question.

There we go

7:22 PM
That's better.
Apostrophe just for you, @StrixVaria.

@OrigamiRobot :)

@oak I remember the optimization guys at the compiler division when we were working on XL C ... their area always seemed like some sort of strange voodoo :-) I imagine yours does too to an outsider. If you're not looking for optimization patters, what do you apply the code patterns to?

@GraceNote Marginally related: You should be proud I want to play a non-Caitlyn champ.
I DEMAND YOUR APPROVAL

Awesome comparison movie of the ME3 endings (spoilers, obviously)

@OrigamiRobot I thought you really liked Caitlyn so I was fine with her being your main choice.

7:28 PM
@OrigamiRobot It's still an R-DPS carry.

@StrixVaria Well, I probably wont get away from that.

@StrixVaria Best to go with what you know

@GraceNote For now. Eventually he should pick up some other classes though.
I suck as R-DPS, but I have champs for all the other roles if necessary.
Technically I own Tristana, but all I ever do with her is feed.

@sterno did you get the link from my answer? :)

Oak
@Stephen a lot of people only hear about code analysis as the static analysis techniques applied as part of the compilation process for many different kinds of optimizations, but it's really much more than that. There are many static and dynamic analysis techniques that are more complex that what the compiler does and can be used for many different goals - validating correctness, for example, or checking for livelocks / deadlocks / other multithreading issues, or detecting plagiarism, etc. etc.

7:29 PM
@StrixVaria That's all I ever do woth most champs.

@Stephen No, I just saw it on RPGCodex

@oak Very cool. Yeah static is of course only one part, JIT compilation exposes dynamic optimization etc... Very cool stuff.
@sterno I saw it the other day ... the person did a good job of syncing and presenting it all together

It's fun to read RPGCodex on occasion, since they apparently hate everything

In “Why Can’t You Have Just One Site?” Jeff wrote about the rationale for creating three sites instead of one, and the process for determining where a question belongs:

Is it really so hard to figure out which community you belong to, and thus, where your question belongs? Ask yourself this:

what is your job title?

which community do you consider yourself a part of?

what are you trying to accomplish?

You can use the same mountain to go downhill really fast on snow — but it’s plainly evident to the participant which culture they consider themselves a part of, “skiers” or “snowboarders”. …

@GraceNote When does Round 2 of the LoL contest start?

Oak
7:34 PM
@Stephen if you're good with theory you might also be interested in the more theoretical sides of this field - you can search for "formal verification" (e.g. stuff like separation logic). There's a lot of logics and constraint solving involved.

@OrigamiRobot I have no idea

@Very cool, I will see if I can grab a paper or two ... seems very interesting.

Q: What strategy is working against Geth Primes?

StephenMissiles, drones and turrets oh my! What can we do as a squad to handle Geth Prime opponents before we get creamed? Is it true that you can shoot down their missile? Is there any particular weapon requirement for that?

@James Unfortunately, No. it was a compilation cartridge made by someone in 2007.

7:45 PM
just found out: ME3 face importing patch has entered testing.

@DavidB As in from a photo or something like that?

as in from ME2 savegames
I pre-ordered ME3 (picked up 3 weeks ago) and haven't gone past the face editting screen yet due to this bug.
(but you're right, it should do real face importing from kinect)

Why on earth would you want your face in the game?

I have mastered your quoting voodoo, look out!

FAE
Hey @Sterno, are you about?

@FAE Indeed
But at work, if it involves actually loading up a game

"Figure it out yourself" is not an answer. :(

FAE
@Sterno Your friend is johnjon, right? It looks like he just made a bunch of dummy/trivial edits to a bunch of his questions to bump them to the frontpage.

@OrigamiRobot Oh kids these days

7:58 PM
1 rep further away from 20k :'(

@FAE I wish there was an option to not bump, because I make a lot of dummy edits in that I feel like a dummy for making the mistake in the first place...

FAE
@OrigamiRobot I think there's a suggestion out there floating around to allow a sort of "minor edit' thing, but I don't know if it's going anywhere.

@FAE Ugh. Yeah. That's kind of an awkward situation for me to bring up though.
