@Tristan This is unnaceptable. We are working all day tomorrow. I will not have my redstone upstaged!

Honestly, I don't even know what ideas to take... o.O And I don't know if Origami's server needs another arena.
@OrigamiRobot Well, I dunno if the redstone's more elaborate. I just meant the structure itself.

@Tristan Oh, well then I'm ok with that :P

@Tristan Did you take a look behind the door in the balcony?
It's probably about the same as yours, the redstone is as simple as I could make it.
Ah, I just realized I forgot the gigantic pick and shovel outside over the bridge.

@GnomeSlice I could have made our redstone simple, but it would ahve sacrificed functionality.

@GnomeSlice I don't see a door on the balcony.

2:03 PM
@OrigamiRobot Mine is as simple as I could get it, and make it very functional *
@Tristan Fuck, did he delete it again.
Stupid. I made a point of making access ways to all of the redstone.

@GnomeSlice The balcony with all the buttons?

And the owner keeps removing the door.
@Tristan Yeah. My friend probably filled it in.
I'm sure it's still there, just not the door.

@GnomeSlice That's what I'm guessing. There's no more door.

Sigh.
I dunno if you noticed the ring of windows around the outside of the arena.
Anyway, that's the access to the redstone on the two side doors.
Sorry about that.
Anyway, that switch on the floor in the balcony opens and closes the doors.
Next modification was going to be note blocks that sound when the doors close.

Aeo
Every time I read a Kirby question, the (admittedly awesome) boss music rolls into my head and won't leave... Dag nab it, @AshleyNunn, I blame you! :P

2:06 PM
@GnomeSlice I was wondering why you made the door enclosure out of note blocks.

@Tristan Oh, no those were just because I liked the look.

Unrelated note: Plants vs. Zombies GOTY Edition is $2 on Steam. Curse you empty paypal.

Q: How can I unlock the whole map on the PC version?

AlvarI would like to play the entire map without playing through the game, I only play for sentimental reasons (for the good old days). I would like to play the whole map, and there is no "cheat code" for this. I won't play multiplayer or do any other thing with this. I only play single player once i...

@Mana You almost died yesterday as well.

@GnomeSlice Phew

2:08 PM
You weren't as touch and go as @Tristan though.

@GnomeSlice Latching the inputs adds a lot of space. My first arena's redstone is not pretty. The others look pretty nice.

@OrigamiRobot All of the redstone is hidden in my arena.
Not sure what you mean by latching.

@GnomeSlice Mine is too, but I know its there.

@Tristan You have Steam?

@GnomeSlice Yessir.

2:11 PM
Steam Name?

In electronics, a flip-flop or latch is a circuit that has two stable states and can be used to store state information. The circuit can be made to change state by signals applied to one or more control inputs and will have one or two outputs. It is the basic storage element in sequential logic. Flip-flops and latches are a fundamental building block of digital electronics systems used in computers, communications, and many other types of systems. Flip-flops and latches are used as data storage elements. Such data storage can be used for storage of state, and such a circuit is described ...

@GnomeSlice NihilistRonin I'm in the GamingSE group. I have a Fluttershy avatar.
@OrigamiRobot This link made me think of this for some reason...

@Tristan ...?

@Lazers ?

@GnomeSlice For some reason, reading "flip flop" made me imagine Bill Cosby saying "Flip flop, bippity bop, shwop-dop a pudding pop."

2:13 PM
@Tristan That's what I thought of immediately when you posted the image.

@Alvar What's up?

@OrigamiRobot I've done a few of those in redstone in minecraft... just say'in

@Tristan I can't find you, either.

@GnomeSlice Friend request sent. Also, I'm glad I wasn't the only one with the Bill Cosby thing.

@OrigamiRobot wounders why he posted that and then didn't say anything...

2:15 PM
Now that @JasonBerkan has entered the room, someone must leave. It's the law of Equivalent Exchange!

@Alvar @Lazers is our friendly neighborhood feed bot.

@OrigamiRobot -.-

@OrigamiRobot Friendly neighborhood Slowpoke.

@Tristan Heh. :)

@OrigamiRobot well I'm from askubuntu... :P

2:16 PM
Anyone feel like closing this one:

Q: Help identify an old point-and-click entertainment kids game

straycatI remember playing this old game on my brother's PC. It was possibly released before 1997. You take control of a car and you explore the city playing a mini game in each stop. It has about 2 or 3 follow up games. I remember one having a birthday theme. I vaguely remember every game ending with fi...

@Tristan This is the truest true that ever true'd.

And good morning to all!

@JasonBerkan I'm always up for closing an ITG question.

@StrixVaria To be fair, not every ITG question is bad.

@Tristan False. Every ITG question is bad.
Even the one I asked.

2:18 PM
@StrixVaria This one wasn't. It net me 125 rep.

@StrixVaria My stance on a couple of other topics made me realize that ITG questions have similar problems.

@Tristan Reputation gained from ITG is the worst kind of rep.

man, add soul calibur to the list of games that generate questions which look like gibberish to me

@agent86 You just lost my vote.

@agent86 What else is on said list?

2:19 PM
These questions are just as valid as StarCraft questions.

@StrixVaria doh, I'm at -4 now :(
I don't think they're invalid, I just can't make sense of them.

@StrixVaria What's so bad about getting ITG rep from a relevant answer? O.o

they're probably excellent questions on the whole.

@Tristan Because it's completely random.

this and the DOTA-style games I just don't understand the lingo.

2:20 PM
@agent86 Oh. I see. You don't think they don't belong. You just don't get them.
That's fine then.
Crisis averted.

@StrixVaria indeed. I've no objection to them (and I'm actually excited to see them, since it means another group of people might be interested in the site), I just have no idea in general what you guys are talking about.

@Tristan Most ITG answers are guesses. Just like

@StrixVaria The ones that are severely lacking in detail are random. Some of them actually provide enough information for a correct answer.

@Tristan You can't provide an answer knowing it's the right answer and 100% confident that it's correct.
@Tristan No, that's not true. You can find a game that meets all the requirements and still not be correct.
Plus, the voting itself is subjective.
You can't upvote an answer confident that it's the correct one.
It's like a popularity contest.

@StrixVaria Question voting is also subjective. SE is not a perfect system.

2:22 PM
@StrixVaria Just like :P

@JasonBerkan This.

@JasonBerkan That's true, but we're not talking about questions right now.
More people need to upvote questions.
I'm not making a perfect, 100% water-tight argument that completely invalidates ITG as a question type.
I'm just saying why I feel like they don't belong.
And, on principle, I won't support any mod candidate who thinks that they do belong.

Personally, I'm on the fence with ItG. I took a personal objection to Jeff's "only help one person" argument, but they do generate a large number of bad questions, and we aren't doing a good job closing those.

@StrixVaria You'll be happy to know I recently swallowed my pride and decided I don't think ITG is a good fit.

Yay!

2:28 PM
@StrixVaria man you gotta stop asking SCV questions I gotta do research for :P

@StrixVaria If I dislike tech questions because of their guess and check nature, I can't justify liking ITG

@IanPugsley You need to start asking SCV questions I can do research for :)

if you have an Astaroth or Devil Jin questions ask those :P

@IanPugsley I can probably come up with a good Astaroth question. I'll use him a bit tonight and see what I come up with.
I love Voldo because no one knows what to do against him yet.

@StrixVaria when I get back from Friday Night Magic tonight I'll see if I can't figure out some answers to a couple of your questions

2:30 PM
I need to get his flow down a bit better, because he's got some new transitions.
@IanPugsley The place I used to play Friday Night Magic is now a furniture store :(

@StrixVaria that just sounds like more surfaces to play Magic on, no problem :)

@StrixVaria The only store that sold MtG cards in my town closed. :( Then we got a new gaming store, which sold videogames and was awesome and also had MtG cards, and that one closed too. :(

Q: Starcraft 2 Ladder: Odd Pairings?

VectaUp until now I've played quite a bit of 2v2 and 3v3 Starcraft 2 matches but haven't focused much on 1v1. About a week ago I started to play more 1v1 one matches. I'm in low bronze, around rank 50 but am being paired fairly consistently with mid-level silver players. Sometimes they'll just pumme...

Q: Why doesn't my camouflage save between different servers in Battlefield 3?

FoxtrotGoing from server to server is nice to mix up the game play, but it becomes a major hassle when every time I connect, I have to modify some of my player's settings: mainly, my player's camouflage. It is a pain to have to do this every time if I do not want to use the default camo - which sticks ...

@FallenAngelEyes I am crying for you :(

We still need 2 more votes on that ITG question.

2:34 PM
@OrigamiRobot I was really upset about the 2nd store closing. It was a small chain, only 3 stores in the whole country, but the people who worked there were gamers. We went there every week, and even if we didn't buy anything, we still had a good time talking to them.

@Tristan I do this with a heavy heart.
...I feel like I've seen this ITG before...

@OrigamiRobot There was one a few days ago that stressed fireworks. Could be you are thinking of that.

@JasonBerkan No, I'm thinking of a much older one.
Well theres another reason ITGs are bad. You cant easily tell what the duplicates are.

user15026
@Aeo You have my utmost apologies XD

@AshleyNunn Are you in a position to see my lastest work!? <.<

2:39 PM
@OrigamiRobot Yeah, as Strix pointed out, they are an ugly fit for the engine (c.f. voting on answers, giving guesses as answers).

Ugh... Choking on Monster isn't fun. x_x

user15026
@Tristan Not quite. Can you give me....45 min or so? I am just about to head out to class. I am curious to see your creation, though. :)

Oh, @OrigamiRobot we need to explain to @AshleyNunn why she should get Minecraft.
@AshleyNunn Sure. I'll be around for a while yet.

@Tristan Explaining MC to someone who hasn't played MC is the worse experience ever. I always feel like an idiot.

@OrigamiRobot I usually just describe it as playing with legos on your PC.

2:44 PM
@Tristan Which is why the LEGO MC set is so trippy.

@JasonBerkan I like it. =P

@IanPugsley The awesome part of SC5's new net code is that I can block stuff on reaction. The awful part is that I'm so confident in my ability to block that I try to Guard Impact instead and wind up eating the hit because there is no Guard Impact any more.

@StrixVaria yeah, there's a noticeable improvement since IV
it took me a really long time to stop trying to guard impact, but I can't just guard to save my life

@Tristan I say something like "Ok, so you are in a world that is made of cubes. And you can move the cubes around. And dig down to find resources. And you use the resources to be able to get better resources. And then you build stuff with your cubes. And there are monsters, but that isn't the fun part. The fun part is the cubes. Where are you going I haven't even gotten to the circuits part."

thankfully most of the people I play against online can't either, so I can get away with the huge hits that the AI just guards against

2:47 PM
@OrigamiRobot Sounds like a reasonable enough explanation to me.

@Tristan Thats because you've played already. You have context.

@IanPugsley I'm not sure if I've seen a just guard yet. I don't really like playing against computers in fighting games because of their superhuman blocking ability, so once I finished the story mode I jumped straight online.
And I also only have about 6 hours played so far :/

@OrigamiRobot True, but even when I hadn't played, seeing stuff people had built made me want to play.

@Tristan Seeing also gives some context. I'm talking about describing MC to a person who knows 0% about MC.

@OrigamiRobot True...

2:53 PM
@OrigamiRobot This sounds like the problem I have when explaining certain book series I read to people

@FallenAngelEyes A specific series, or multiple?

@Tristan Happens with a few I like, though one of my favorites in particular very often

@FallenAngelEyes Which one might that be?

Is it The Name of the Wind?
I can never explain in words how awesome that book is.

@Tristan The Kushiel's Legacy stuff by Jacqueline Carey
haha, no, though Name of the Wind is awesome

2:55 PM
You're awesome.

@FallenAngelEyes Never heard of it...

@Tristan They're some of my favorites books ever

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Oh, those books are ten kinds of terrific

@FallenAngelEyes Just looked at the Wiki article. A six book fantasy series? I'm sold.

@AshleyNunn Aren't they?! Also, we're talking about things that you have trouble describing to others who aren't familiar with them. I'm sure you see my issue here.

2:57 PM
I feel like I'd run into a similar snag trying to explain His Dark Materials to someone...

user15026
Also, I just had the weirdest bus ride ever. Some protesters, Spiderman, and 2 YipYips (the Sesame Street aliens). I also almost got hit by the bus (before I got on it) because the driver doesn't understand what "4 way stop" means.

@Tristan That series was pretty good.

@AshleyNunn Also I saw you pop into chat and was desperately hoping you had read them, I'm glad to see I was right. XD

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Oh, most definitely. Those books are really hard to describe.

@AshleyNunn Yikes.
@AshleyNunn "Political alternate history fantasy" is part of it, but then there's the rest...

user15026
2:59 PM
@FallenAngelEyes :D I have a major love for fantasy books like that. :)

@AshleyNunn Have you read any of Ursula K. LeGuin's stuff?

user15026
@FallenAngelEyes Exactly. It's the rest of it I have trouble quantifying.

user15026
@Tristan Some. I liked it.

@Tristan I read "Catwings" when I was a kid XD

@AshleyNunn I would be more concerned if you had been hit by the bus after you got on.
