@Shog9 I'm a terrible answerer, so I'm perfect.
I'm a bit confused at all the people downvoting me or jack or whatever in the primary, though.
we're so offensive that you don't even want us running? Yeesh.

Vote Mike: it's all he's good for.

that's effectively my platform.

14 hours later…
3:25 PM
4 hours until it's election time!

3:47 PM
@MikeEdenfield This is just backlash from the bad PR over my HP song

1 hour later…
5:03 PM
@MikeEdenfield I'd wonder if noone downvoted you. People in an election are usually highly visible users who necessarily make quite some enemies over time, some of them even unbeknownst. If noone downvotes you, you haven't really engaged in moderating the site at all yet.

Enemies? I have no enemies. All my enemies are dead....

@JackBNimble So zombies?

@Keen Hmmm...
I ain't fraid of no zombies.

1 hour later…
6:25 PM
35 minutes to go.

6:59 PM
...you mean 1 hour, 35 mins?
it's 1 hour left now

It told me 1 hour, 1 hour ago

now it's telling me 1 hour!

Well, now it is saying minutes.
I guess 1:59:59 to it = 1 hour

yeah, pretty much.

no, jack was stuck in the speed force

7:02 PM
It probably could have said < 2 hours.
I got my hopes up for nothing.

I'm back, from the future.

I'm from the future. I came here in a time machine YOU invented!
Now we play a little thing I like to call, The Waiting Game.

if jack gets elected keen will start bleeding from the nose, and disappearing.

i hate when i start bleeding from my disappearing.

until someone gets released from their suspension

7:08 PM
yeah, we'll have to hurl richard at super-luminal speeds at the nearest gap in the space-time continuum

/checks room. switches tabs

user132126
@MikeEdenfield Will this cause Jason Todd to come back to life?

7:29 PM
possibly.

7:59 PM
7 seconds.

kinda weird that you can only see their reputation after you vote for them.

crap, I forgot to decide who I actually want to vote for

@Ixrec Umm, me, obviously, and then... two others.

8:13 PM
jack and jesse and slater

@Ixrec Well that's what this room is for, ask others who you should vote for.

I didn't check but, did the primary come out as we all expected?

looks like it

Stupid Primary. I HATE YOU SO MUCH!

I can't make up my mind, one of you needs to get suddenly suspended and make this easier

8:21 PM
Free silver badges for all voters!

76 people have already voted.

@Ixrec I'll give you one free tag, your choice, if you vote for me.

Is that the sum of the people in this room and the main chat room?

31 all time users for this room

user132126
@MikeEdenfield Mike Edenfield implies he'll limit tag creation outside of existing privilege systems. Vote for Mike, vote for censorship.

8:25 PM
@CreationEdge not censorship; tag tax.

Nice slogan.

5 rep per tag.
I'll tax the high-rep users to pay for the tags the low rep users need to ask questions.

user132126
Think Mike wants to clean up tags? Think again. He's just looking for extra rep. Vote for Mike, vote for the 1%.

I don't understand how anyone could vote for @Null. He's like a pointer that doesn't point at anything.
He's like an object without an instance.

@CreationEdge not true, I'm the Bernie Sanders of tags.

user132126
8:26 PM
Next election I should hire out my smear campaign skills.

@CreationEdge social liberalism!

user132126
@MikeEdenfield Mike, known to flip-flop on issues!

user132126
You can't win against smear campaigns.

user132126
It's like trying to keep out of the tabloids when you're famous.

@JackBNimble that may be true, but why would we want someone whose claim to fame is jumping 8 inches in the air

user132126
8:27 PM
Mike Edenfield: Pregnant?! Is it really Cthulu's?

The establishment is so scared of me they've set their biased media attack dog on me. Up the Tag Revolution! Don't buy into the vast right-wing conspiracy!

@SSumner I'd like to see any other scifi enthusiast with ashama and rapid onset diabetes perform the same feat!

But then you fell down the I'll and broke your crown so can you really be called sane?

user132126
@MikeEdenfield Oh man, I'm part of the establishment? ;_;

I'm really starting to wish I could pick at least 4 candidates

user132126
8:29 PM
@JackBNimble I have a feeling that's a pretty large demographic of sci-fi fans, #-wise, not %-wise

@CreationEdge number-wise or pound-wise?

Star that man!

user132126
@phantom42 Either, I guess!

@SSumner I'm not crazy. My mother had me tested.

8:32 PM
@JackBNimble I'm gonna need to see proof. Oh, and your birth certificate

@Keen 111 now

Wow, @JackBNimble got the first badge for voting.

seems a little weird that we have a complete list of everyone who voted in what order
can't figure out how you'd abuse it though

Nah

@Keen I'm like Jack B Quick.

8:33 PM
It's clearly done in batches. It's not like everyone's waiting a few mins to vote all together.

@keen unless everyone is just sockpuppets and they're voting together...

Jack Be Nimble. Jack Be Quick. Jack Be Terrible At Grammar.

Yussss, I rounded out the first 10 badge earners.

yeah, looks like exactly 5 minute intervals

I think that's plenty long enough, can we just tally the votes now?

8:36 PM
Nope, now comes the next 3 days of me changing my votes as the whim strikes.

In my Election PostMortem blog post break down I'm going to mention I saw so many people referring to others without the '@' sign.

It would be interesting to see a running graph of the leaders post- election (obviously you would be able to figure out who votes that way with the current system though)

Now to spread around some campaign leaflets. I think adding comments to 8000 questions asking for their support ought to do the trick.

@SSumner You're missing a 'not' there somewhere, I think.

@SSumner if they used a wide enough time interval (1 hour?) it'd probably be fine

8:42 PM
@Keen I think he's saying, if we could see who was ahead in votes over time and correlate it to when people got the badge we could figure it out

I wonder if anyone has ever tried a comment spam campaign to win a moderator election.

or he's not saying that in which case I just said that
did they implement the comment spam moderator notification?
if you get suspended during the election can you still win?

no
you are immediately disqualified and removed.

i mean, our local tax collector died in the middle of the last election and he won.
seems unfair

dying is one thing. We're talking about suspensions here
3

8:44 PM
ah.

I'm considering dying to get the sympathy vote.

if jack dies, do the CMs get to appoint someone from his party to take his place in the election?

I'll nominate @MikeEdenfield to be my VP of Moderating.

@JackBNimble Now that's dedication. You must really want the position.

user132126
So, it's better to die than get suspended.

8:45 PM
From an election stand point.

@CreationEdge from Shog's perspective, at least. Far less drama.

user132126
Pretty tight ship around here! Might have to learn Gun Kata.

in all seriousness, which candidates do we think have the best shot of winning?

user132126
Look at the primary votes, I guess.

Pretty much. Although primaries let people vote for and against everyone.

8:49 PM
Null and I led the primary in net score

Right, they have unlimited votes up or down.

rand and Null led in total upvotes

user132126
And leaders in downvotes are?

user132126
I stopped keeping track.

Well Arvin
No surprise there

8:50 PM
yeah, the "winner" in the primary could always be the guy that everyone thought was good, but no one thought was the best

But after him, Mithrandir and rand

user132126
Rand has high total upvotes, but also tons of downvotes (#3) and his Q&A is really DV. I'm really not sure how to place his chances, based on that info.

user132126
It's an interesting scenario.

Yeah, rand is quite contentious
Alex and I had the lowest number of downvotes
It's still anybody's game
But I think we can likely discount Mithrandir, Himarm, SSumner, and CreationEdge

if rand wins, i'm moving to canada M/TV

8:54 PM
Reminder: y'all have until next Tuesday to vote. Take your time, read the answers to the questions, and think about who you want representing you.
5

That's crazy talk. Vote your conscious, vote Nimble.

user132126
@JasonBaker I don't want to be discounted. Full price or you get nothing from me.

*Numble

@CreationEdge You sure? I'll give you a good deal

user132126
Can CMs see real time election results?

9:01 PM
@phantom42 that thought has crossed my mind, frankly.

@Shog9 Ignore this man, vote recklessly and with abandon!
Weird, that reply doesn't have the little arrow dealy.

@Keen vote early, vote often!

@Keen yes it does?

I blame caching. after a refresh it's there now for me.

Was the constituent badge count before this election started?

9:03 PM
@JackBNimble 769

Is it considered election tampering if I ask.. 115 volunteers to go up-vote 40 questions and 30 answers and leave a comment "Here is a free vote, please remember Jack B Nimble when you vote for moderator." ?
Truth be told, if I had 115 supports willing to do that, I could probably win the election without canvasing.

what if Joshua edited the top 25 tag wiki excerpt to say "Vote for Mike E and Save This Tag Wiki!"

27 mins ago, by Mike Edenfield
if you get suspended during the election can you still win?

what if you did those things without first announcing it in a chatroom where Shog9 is watching?

BTW rand, i was just kidding earlier. just needed a name to put in for the joke. yours came to mind because your entry was so contentious.

9:11 PM
Are you suggesting these legitimate election tactics would get us suspended?

@phantom42 we might have been kidding but I wouldn't be surprised if that was a genuine opinion held by some people.

oh, im sure

at least one person openly threatened to leave the site if I won. :(

@MikeEdenfield Was it your most vocal commenter?

@JackBNimble I believe the Google doc is still there if you're curious.

9:14 PM
You can't threaten to move to Canada if you're already living in Canada.

@Shog9 You can threaten to move to 100 miles north of the US border. Then you are in a whole different Canada.

move to quebec

user132126
> If he's elected, I'll stay in Canada!

more empty campaign promises

user132126
If elected, I promise to do the $h!t work without complaint!

9:15 PM
so anyway. once this is over we get to move on to being overly dramatic about cooking.se, right?
3

i'll move to quora
or yahoo answers

@phantom42 Hey, let's not go crazy here.

user132126
Thaddeus is already on Quora, easy transition.

@MikeEdenfield I hear that election is heating up.

@phantom42 devdoodle.

9:16 PM
Anyway, I honestly believe that everyone running could make a good moderator. I hope y'all think less about disaster and focus more on who is best prepared to make the changes in their participation required to moderate effectively.

@JonEricson how many passive-agressive meta posts has it garnered so far?

Because... That's always necessary. Changes, I mean.

@JonEricson also, this is not the pun room.
in Mos Eisley, Jan 12 at 21:35, by Ana
@WadCheber We have an ongoing joke amongst the CMs that when someone makes an egregiously terrible pun, they get 'fired'. Sometimes, if someone's on a roll, they can get fired several times in a single afternoon. If you worked at Stack Exchange @Wad, you would definitely have just been fired for that one.
sounds like you're fired.
coal fired? who knows.

Yes. We all are often fired by the end of the day.
I like my steak rare as a pink slip.
Hmmm... that one's underdone.

1 hour later…
10:22 PM
@MikeEdenfield yes, that was what I meant

Over 200 voters so far.
