:p
01:33
I have a plan for heading forwards
at some point, we take our pitches, combine them into a poll, and then vote out the ones we don't want to take the the next phase. The remaining pitches will then be converted to final scripts, from which the one we'll produce will be chosen.
5
@GiantCowFilms Maybe
But we'll have to make sure that we bring it down to no more than three
Yeah
Overall, I'm not totally pleased with what we have, but its not totally bad either.
01:49
Yeah
I wish I had some ideas
I have plenty of ideas, but a lack of good ones.
or at least good ones that don't need tons of dialog.
@TARDISMaker Do you want me to show you how to use adobe story in the mean-time
Not today
01:58
I have to go to bed soon
But probably tomorrow assuming I have some spare time at the same time as you

14 hours later…
16:13
OK. So we need to vote on/make more pitches, right?
I think at this point it would be a good idea to assess the production difficulties of producing each script - things like dialog, effects etc... since that might take some of them out right off the bat.
16:30
Check this out: No Dialog, but still hilarious: youtube.com/watch?v=QdGxbDRwoKs
I think nearly all our pitches are slightly headed in the wrong direction
Which is slightly my fault since I've written most of them :P
Mechs, Wizzards, ligtning shooting maniacs and a ninja V.S. giant mythical dragons and and even huge-er cow???
@GiantCowFilms My script for the helium cow is making great progress, I'll re post once it is done.
and then I'll make one for a mainly battle sequence
I think it is fair to assume that whatever we choose to make will have a cow, a mech, and a wizzard, so perhaps I should start modeling the characters while you all argue over the plot?
16:50
@X-27 That will be so easy to animate to look amateurish . . .
@X-27 No
Personally, I'm heading toward other ideas that cut down on characters, nothing is nearly certain until we are starting to write full on scripts
@gandalf3 Sorry about not having the permissions setup for the old ideas doc. Just fixed that
17:05
@GiantCowFilms how about we do it based on vehicles instead of characters. kind of like Cars 1,2 and 3, and Planes
only the vehicle wouldn't talk
Sort of like my racing pitch? but with the characters simply removed?
I had a script for a plane based short (accidentally similar to Pixar's film Planes), but it might be a bit complicated for this time around.
or, how about this: Year 5682 - Scenario - During the apocalypse, an AI took over the world's computers and built a fleet of robots just as the last life was dying out.
@NᴏᴠɪᴄᴇIɴDɪsɢᴜɪsᴇ If its lying around, we might as well read it.
The robots don't talk, they just do things
17:07
@GiantCowFilms I can try to find it real quick
I can't remeber what state the scripts was in, I just have the story in my mind, so we will see
like, they could be flying around, (hovering over the ground- no walk cycles - YAY
@GiantCowFilms That's a great short
Defiantly more in the direction we should be going
@NᴏᴠɪᴄᴇIɴDɪsɢᴜɪsᴇ Otherwise you can write a one paragraph GCF style pitch for it, and then if we choose it, we will build off what you have in your script.
17:09
Or- Or - a fully automated nuclear apocalypse aircraft carrier. I have an uber basic base mesh that I could probably detailify in time.
@Gwenn I suppose that no matter how awesome the vehicles or explosions that I/We use, the animation will be rather pointless without a plot, right?
17:37
@GiantCowFilms I just read your racing pitch it is A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!!!!
I think there are some similarities
:-)
But it would be totally do-able. No complicated animation, (a few somke and fire sims, but hey- I like those)
we could use rigid body sims for when the cars blow up and the parts go rolling away.
@X-27 That is a total shameless rip-off of mad max fury road
lol
well, I sure wouldn't want our animation to be a rip-off....
Film Idea (Simple, Funny and No Dialog): Two guys are trying to go surfing, each trying to out do the other one to catch the biggest wave, foiling each other while seeking they try to do the biggest tricks. In the end they accidentally do a totally epic tandem surf on the biggest wave on the beach, and become instantly famous (and friends)
but that would require insanely detailed fluid sims-- a big no no for render and processing time
17:45
What about a low-poly style animation with hand animated waves
I kindof do like the idea of low-polly
for whatever we make - that way evreything won't look under detailed
We're going cartoonish for sure
I'm not sure that I want to do low poly though
Well - for some of my pitches I was considering pseudo-realism
but for this one we could go quite stylized
But we can figure out the exact style once we figure out what we're doing
your racing one (my favorite yet) could be low-ish poly.
that makes modeling easier, and rendering way faster
and our fire and smoke sims wouldn't need to be so perfect either.
17:49
Yeah, all I'm saying is that waves can be done without fluid simulation
@X-27 They'd have to fit the style
Probably a particle system
With low poly smoke objects
sparks are easy enough to make with particles, and low res smoke wouldn't look too bad with particle sparks....
18:03
Have any of you seen sheep island
that was a very interesting and unique animation.
I haven't
me either...
18:46
so, give me an assignment and i'll try and do it.
@NᴏᴠɪᴄᴇIɴDɪsɢᴜɪsᴇ um... sure.
i might have to clean up a little bit before you guys get here, but that would be cool. :P
19:01
@RadishofKnowledge want me to use the front door, or the back?
19:15
Well we have a lot more ideas :D
I do like the idea of two competing characters, getting bigger and bigger with each thing. Though that has been done LOTS. Dr. Suess did it (The butter battle) and made something thought provoking out of it
How about we make a list of the things that none of us re good at. Then we rule out anything that needs a lot of that.
Walk cycles.
Fluid Sims.
Detailed Character Animation.
Motion Tracking.
Animating character mouths to move in motion with voice recordings- (big no-no)
Things that (at least one of us) is/are good at:
Blender internal
Cycles
BGE
Rigid body sims
Modeling
Rigging
Texturing
Animation Mechanical parts
Fire/Smoke sims.
Lighting.
Sculpting.
did I miss anything? If there is something your good at making/doing that I didn't list there reply to that.
and If I listed something in the first list that you can do, be sure to correct me.
19:47
@X-27 I'm pretty good with Motion Tracking
20:20
I think I could figure out walk cycles eventually. (Assuming I know what that entails.) Its really just a series of poses that move smoothly together. And I'm good with poses. Usually.
20:43
I think part of the purpose of this project was to move some of the things from list one to list two.
Especially those regarding character animation

3 hours later…
23:43
@X-27 the other one
or my window, that works too
@X-27 what about script writing?
@BookWyrm17 we should totally do a photo-realistic suess.. that would be so awesome. :)
@X-27 i can do a really good walk cycle if i have the time and the rigged character, i just usually don't pay it much attention
and i can do shapekeys if thats what you meant by mouth movements.
@NᴏᴠɪᴄᴇIɴDɪsɢᴜɪsᴇ which is terrible because none of us are amateurs???
