20:04
The mech is writing his script in a seperate file.
Could we move the original ideas to a separate document?
To keep things organized?
We are doing that
Look to what I did for an example of an idea pitch
simple set up, not much detail, only the selling points
That's not what I mean
20:05
Since it is obvious none of you like my idea, I will go into my corner and pout, making all of you feel bad for harassing my idea. <joke>
:-)
Which one was your idea?
I'm talking about the first ideas. Before we decided on what we're doing
Oh yeah, lets move them too
Another idea: what if at the start, we're all taking turns using a blender, and then somebody steals the blender and runs off with it. We all chase the blender thief.
@Gwenn But we already have our own Blenders!
They're free after all!
20:08
I was hoping to not have this be BSE or blender centric
Hi, my name is Brad Pitty. I like to think i work in hollywood, but I am a looser writting this from an internet cafe. This is my face: https://deaenij3kiw8r.cloudfront.net/system/users/avatars/141380/original/production-b3612f96cc66fee631be82853dd2c316-man_bartlett_bw.jpg?1369799811

I need your help as an artist to work for no pay to single handeledly pull of a poorly written ambious script about a dog trying to befriend a hamster in a distopian city. You will get a credit as an assistent to effects production. I would also like it if you could mail me a dog and a hamster.
Point taken.
@X-27 lol
(yeah, I Brad Pitty, laugh at my own jokes)
:P
that was yours...
@X-27 can you add your short one - two paragraph pitch to the pitch document for your helium idea?
@X-27 i know
20:09
I'm moving the old pitches to my own document
I'll post a link once I do that
Goal: Everyone pitches at least one idea
@Gwenn @gandalf3 @NᴏᴠɪᴄᴇIɴDɪsɢᴜɪsᴇ @TARDISMaker @RadishofKnowledge I know you have at least an idea.
Make sure that works for you guys
I'll go back and actually delete the stuff from the original file now
(I copied and pasted instead of cutting to make sure nothing went wrong)
Okay, I got it cleaned up
@GiantCowFilms Not really
Unless we want to make a spy movie
But then I only have a genre idea
It's really tricky trying to come up with a semi-legitimate reason why such disparate characters would be in the same place at the same time.
What about a plot where each of our characters comes up in turn?
20:21
@BookWyrm17 is it okay if I make you black in the comments?
I think we should try to be consistent about the styling there
At this point I am going to point out that the fundamental idea we have here - us as characters - really requires dialog to happen. Maybe we should go another direction.
Mine doesn't need any dialogue.
Probably.
eh
I think a test, with everyone doing some dialog, is in order. It could sound campy, but it could also be interesting.
Cows don't need to say anything, Dragons don't need to say anything, only mythical creature roars. Mechs make mechanical hydraulic sounds, (and sci-fy blasts) Gandalf wouldn't need to say anything, (a distant, ancient wizard look would work) - he could not be bothered to say anything.
A radish is.. well, a radsh.
Aw, I like green. If you haev to, I suppose.
20:33
@X-27 But this limits the stories we can tell.
Body language and surroundings can do all the necessary communication for a short film, if designed carefully.
Even with characters who you would normally expect to speak.
(both of my pitches face plant, esp. the buddy cop one)
exactly.
Wouldn't a battle scene be better? Everyone could be used in combat.
against.. middle earth?
:D I'm sure there is a way we could do them, even with no dialouge. Its just the creativity aspect. You could have the cow and the radish hold up evidence and see what the suspect thinks
or point and run and this and that
Scratching one's chin and pointing accusingly go a long way.
20:35
ban hammers make wonderful weapons, I need not say how dragons can be used and a mech - duh.
questioning can take place through simple looks and glares and gazes and shrugs and nods and stuff
I do like the idea of a battle scene :D Read my pitch
@Gwenn yeah
I'm just saying, if we were to find a way to do dialog, it would take a massive weight off of our shoulders.
It might be fun to see a sci-fy mech fighting along side of an ancient wizzard, mythical dragons, and characters with lightning shooting hammers.
Have fun with all those smoke sims and volumes to render :P
also that squashes @Gwenn's mandate of being meaningful
That would be fun :D
yeah I think we left the meaningful behind us a long time ago
.. :/ I'm sure we could get something like that, but we would probably have to abandon the "seperate characters for each of us" idea
20:40
Meaningful???
Yeah, it's unlikely we'll get anything really meaningful or useful at this point.
@X-27 Except I'm much more the run, fortify, fight from a distance type.
:D magic is my favorite! Or Ranger when I'm human, so that would be run and snipe as well.
I'm a magic dragon :D
just the creativity that goes into magic. So much POSSIBILITY
Bah, you say "magic" as though it explains anything.
20:43
Nope
Magic has limits
There are different levels too
Imagination comes up with anything
Of course it does, "magic" is such an unfortunate name for something that is just a part of how the universe works.
I'm not explaining myself well, you can ignore me.
It depends on what kind of world we are talking about here. Is it one where magic is very specific, with this and that, ingredients and magic spells, or are we talking magic like, where you can will it, and if you know what you are doing, it works?
For this animation, I imagine it would be a combination, so there wouldn't be any speaking (magic spells) but they weren't all powerful
I had a whole huge conversation with this random person, acting like we were both different magical creatures in this world, and we were trading something. We were total strangers up to that point, so our views on magic and stuff were totally different, but we made it work, as we went along. It was awesome :D
magic?
gandalf would have to be extra powerful.
:D Depends on the idea here :P what role does he play?
I think we need to pick a plot soon though. Where did everyone go?
You should ignore me. Also the answer is that either way, even if magic can be done via waving your hands around and saying magic words, or whatever, the really interesting stuff comes from trying to figure out exactly why and how it works, and then gaming it for all it is worth. You should not be content to merely use magic without trying to figure out more about it.
Gandalf found an ancient crystal of power. The power was too great for him, and it corrupted him. Once we destroy the crystal, he is restored to his sanity.
Yeah :D Pull the last drops of awesomeness out of the world. Whether its will and energy, or potions and wands.
Basically, I am approving of the scientific, engineering, and philosophical perspectives on unexplored phenomena. The "eh, whatever" approach is not to my liking.
OH HEY I like that idea :D
Also, Gandalf is a once per movie sort of wizard. :P
20:50
heheh
@X-27 Or maybe, ya know, a magic ring?
@Gwenn HHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
@Gwenn and let me guess, there is only one place it can be destroyed?
@X-27 I was actually thinking about the elven ring he carries, not the One Ring. So dragonfire or lava would work as well.
and we have two dragons at our disposal here!
You know that part in The Fellowship of the Ring where Galadriel flips out at Frodo? Gandalf had the potential to do the same thing, the whole time.
20:56
Oooh. This could be interesting. (Though it seems to have turned into a parody of LotR...)
with BSE characters randomly dumpped in
I think that there are close enough analogues to each of us in Middle Earth that it could be done.
@Gwenn :D Didn't think of that
A LotR parody would be awesome!
but how does a sci-fy mech or a giant cow fit in?
or, for that matter, two maniacs wearing diamd studded hats shooting lightning from ban hammers?
the dragons would fit in great
21:00
Gandalf and actual dragons fit in easily.
gandalf would obviously fit...
@NᴏᴠɪᴄᴇIɴDɪsɢᴜɪsᴇ wants to be a ninja, so he could be from Khand or Umbar.
I could totally see Saruman making a mech.
GCF could be a giant mythical creature...
so I'm an evil mech.... :-)
I'd have to make it burn red and black fire, and model some glowing red energy weapons
GCF could be one of the Maiar, like Shelob and the balrog (and Gandalf, for that matter).
this might just work.
21:03
There could be an enchanted radish, probably courtesy of Radagast the Brown.
@Gwenn And Dalek
And TARDIS
@Gwenn :D
I don't see any good way of fitting in a TARDIS, except for the Doctor pulling various shenanigans.
Yeah
Me and one of my friends used to think that there should be a movie where The Doctor caused everything to go right in The Lord of the Rings
In stop motion of course :D
I want to keep away from crossover fanfiction, if we can help it.
Yeah
I wouldn't do it now
21:05
Daleks could be essentially armored orcs with laser weaponry, again courtesy of Saruman.
Yeah
NID would be saruman?
@TARDISMaker NID said he wanted to be a ninja, so he can be a ninja from Khand or Rhun.
I think I'm getting the geography right.
This could work :D
And the idea is that we are trying to un-corrupt gandalf, because of the ring? (which is supposedly powerful enough to corrupt gandalf, when the One Ring, the last remaining bit of all the evil in the world, was not quite enough :D )
@BookWyrm17 Gandalf never wears the One Ring.
Good point
21:08
I think I rather like this idea, at least generally.
still. did he ever touch it? I can't remember
Making it only two minutes long might be a bit tricky though.
@BookWyrm17 I don't think so.
21:29
pick one scene to take a spin on
21:43
We could also do something with Norse mythology. There's:
- Odin (main god--gandalf3 with an eyepatch),
- Jörmungandr (giant wyrm--BookWyrm17),
- Fenrir (large wolf--me),
- Audhumbla (primeval supercow--GiantCowFilms), and
- Thor (god of thunder, known for his lightning-shooting hammer--iKlsR).
There are other more obscure figures who could fit everybody else, probably.
If we're going by personality, X-27 could be Loki, the god of fire.
Oooooh. I do like the idea of fitting us all into a role that is most like us
Not at all what I had in mind when I said BSE characters
also, wasn't 90% of the point of this was to pull it off?
@GiantCowFilms Yeah, right now neither the LoTR idea nor the Norse mythology idea is a serious candidate, because we don't have a story that can easily fit in 2 minutes.
Right now, they're both more setting ideas than anything else.
Personally, fan fictions always come off as campy.
I thought you would be excited because Norse mythology has an actual primoridal supercow.
21:54
Why can't we built our own world too :P World building is the best part :D
@Gwenn O.o?
@GiantCowFilms The canonical Norse mythology is pretty loose. There is plenty of room for worldbuilding.
BTW, guys, at this point, we might want to discard our earlier vote, and come up with a wider range of pitches. If we follow the above format, we should have a coherent set of options to choose from.
@Gwenn Vikings would be kinda fun
I think that I like the idea of each of us having a character that corresponds to us, but I think that we can be a bit less literal about that and just use our personalities as inspiration.
22:12
Hello @Dontwalk. What brings you around here?
22:25
I think I have a good pitch
22:37
We want something we really want to do
Yeah
What if we made a story with one character, not necessarily us.
That would eliminate the need of cross-character communication.
@Gwenn That is a good point. the MOD-Team carry around hammers that resemble thor's.
I still think we are forgetting the pull this off aspect
I think we should pull back on everything, characters, locations etc.
We should have one character in one location, if we are ever to finish
unless we are going to do really shoddy execution.
Yeah. We did start with something simple. But it got bigger.
22:46
then how do we implement aspects of all of us into one character? I dragon wearing a wizard hat with a ban hammer driving a mech?
heheheh
that would look really funny.....
What about we scrap the all of us idea and pull back.
Not sure how practical it would be, buut..
to one simple character with one simple quest.
22:47
@GiantCowFilms how about: a poorly written script about a guy and a hampster?
Yeah, we might want to go with something else, and save this for another time, if we ever do this again
@X-27 XD
That is what we will have, minus the hamster
Cosmos Floundermat: The Second Cycle
My nicely written incomplete script is not poorly written
@NᴏᴠɪᴄᴇIɴDɪsɢᴜɪsᴇ they are making a second cycle
lets leave our current pitches where they are and add more with more variety.
22:49
we should make steers of teal
@X-27 Yeah, too bad. Hope it is better
it can be a teal version of giant cow!
We could always do that Death idea, the journey and such, which wouldnt require dialoge, and only have two characters. Or maybe that spell checker. Or they grey world.
Or something totally different
Spell chekcker could be done without dialog
or a story ,written and portrayed, from the perspective of a deaf and mute guy?
that would solve the problem of dialog!
22:50
although the script I currently have has a fair amount of spoken words, they could be cut out.
haha that'd be funny. Maybe interesting. The spell checker one could easily be done without dialoge
If we're abandoning the all of us idea, then I reinstate my request for a philosophical, meaningful, or useful animation.
Pitch it then
I still rather like my bazaar idea.
I think that might be a good one for the spell checker then. We could get something meaningful out of that
22:51
You will only get what you pitch. If you want something, pitch it!
3
Caminandes with giant cows and apple trees instead of llamas and blueberries . . .
Thud OOWWWWW careful where you throw your ideas!
if you didn't get that, explaining it will ruin the humor.
22:53
XD
huh?
I hate it when I don't get jokes
@Gwenn take a look at my spell checker pitch, I think its in the direction you wan't.
@GiantCowFilms baseball
still lost
.... baseball pitch?
(throwing == pitching)?
23:00
:P
I'm trying to decide how much story details a pitch needs...
@Gwenn BTW, your google+ page says your gender is male, yet will all kind of assumed you were female????
I usually add lots of detail in certain places and less in others. It varies a lot, instead of being all detailed or not
.
Actually I thought he was a guy
@GiantCowFilms Since when?
which made me kind of confused when you called him her in the race thing
I think you are alone @GiantCowFilms :/
23:12
I, and others have often referred to him as her.
ok
I never gave it any thought
not me :D OK though. Its the internet, people get confused.
That is always awkward, getting the gender wrong.
What do the rest of you think of the Spell Checker pitches?
@NᴏᴠɪᴄᴇIɴDɪsɢᴜɪsᴇ I swear, without thought, you have done it before.
23:14
I don't particularly like the stereotypes surrounding either gender, so I pretty much just mess with people about it.
maybe I'm wrong
@Gwenn Oh - okay....
@Gwenn Sadly we have gender specific pro-nouns - so at some point you'll end up making someone embarrassed :P
/me uses "they"
@GiantCowFilms nope, I never gave it any thought, and almost never refer to people with gender specific pronouns
@gandalf3 It
;)
@GiantCowFilms Yeah the English language is annoying like that.
23:16
You can use either. Or both. I'm perfectly fine with whatever.
At least my bread doesn't have a gender . . . gee whiz French . . .
Really? There are so many Dinosaur comics to choose from, and you go with the xkcd one?
@Gwenn From now on, I'm going to use "whatever" when referring to you with a pronoun.
or the whatever.... :P
@Gwenn BTW, what do you think of my try-to-be-deep pitch?
lol
23:21
What would people feel about other people giving your random pitch prompts and then you fill them in? We might just get something intersting
A prompt might be:
GiantCowFilms' Farm-Boy-Nobody Does Big Things:
@GiantCowFilms Done right, it could be thought provoking. But I have a hard time seeing it as a good fit for 3D animation, and it doesn't really have a point.
and then I have to fill in the blank.
@Gwenn I've been battling the lack of point for a while now
How bout mine? :D
@Gwenn My visual vision for it is a perfect fit for 3D animation, its just hard to verbalize
I think the point is to make the viewer question their perspective of themselves, the way the character ends up question his self perspective.
@GiantCowFilms That could be an obstacle for a group project. :P
23:27
Luckily, I could probably (not today) make a get-the-idea rendering within a day.
@Gwenn That is why I started writing a script on my own, and began considering creating it individually.
23:42
BTW, We shouldn't get into the habit of editing what other people say on the google doc, for risk of changing original intent (while still having their name plastered onto it)
Just because I did it once, doesn't mean everyone else should be as dumb and irresponsible as I am.
:P
Yeah sorry :D Mostly just a joke. If I ever edit anyone elses stuff, I'll put it back
