12:51 PM
It's been quiet around here ...

2 hours later…
2:28 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 i'm hunting rabbits :)

@Myself - Haha ... wish I was. I'm taking an online class which covers the ITIL Foundation cert ... great stuff (not)
@Myself - And why aren't you hunting wabbits?

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Had to google that
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 you know those Europeans and their understanding of American memes/culture/cartoons :)

I've got a pretty good understanding of it, but need to get the cert for my job. They've already paid for the training, so I might as well take it.

Free training, that's great

@Myself - They are pesky, I'll grant you ... the wabbits, not you Europeans ... :o)

2:32 PM
I am working atm. Will need to go home early, celebrating Fathers-Day, later there is a firefighing exercise going on

Father's Day? Not until June here in the States.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Madame promised me a surprise, so I better come home in time :)

Madame? As in your wife?
And if so, absolutely ... get your butt home on time!

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Yes, exactly

2:36 PM
How about you? Did you made your hands dirty on some cars?

My Mother-in-Law bought the daughter a car for a graduation present (from High School). It's had some small little issues I've been taking care of. Also, I've had a SBC (small block Chevy) 350 in my garage for the past several years just sitting there. So I took it apart this weekend to see exactly what it was about. It came out of an 86 3/4 ton Suburban. Very pleased with how good of shape it's in.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Had to google the SBC 350. And this is called a small block?
I guess you will laugh at the 1.2 engine of my wifes Clio :)

@Myself - It's called a "small block" in deference to a "big block".
The 1st generation SBC ranged in size from 262-400 cubic inches. The big block (MkIV) ranged from 396-454 cubic inches. The big block weighed about 100 lbs more and was about an 1" bigger in each direction (length, width, height) over the SBC. The are just generic terms to differentiate the two different V8 blocks.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Ok, got it.

2:52 PM
It's a term which related back to the time of when American V8's ruled the marketplace.
Anyway, I took some video of the goings on while I was tearing it apart and will compile it into something viewable later today, hopefully.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 That would be great
At the moment I am looking for a nice van, I am uncomfortable with my wifes Clio. It is just too small

It's like that

3:30 PM
I wish I had the availability to get a spare front input shaft from whatever I transmission I was working on to make an alignment tool for it ... seems the plastic ones they provide with clutch kits are hit and miss as to how well they actually work (align the clutch). Some trannies are just fickle in their ability to get into place.

3 hours later…

3 hours later…
8:47 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 do you do any VR stuff?
I got a Vive as a day 2 pre-order

@AJHenderson I got an Oculus with my Galaxy S7, but it was pretty much crap.
Dude is like a kid in a candy store, though. Makes it fun to see what's going on. The Haptic glove is what I was really wanting to point out here. It's flippin' awesome.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 an occulus? or a gear vr?
guessing you mean a Gear VR
which, yes, is crap
slightly better than a google cardboard but not much
and yes, the haptic simulation they are starting to be able to make is crazy

Putting a stupid phone in front of your face is stupid. You can see the pixels on the screen.

so you got an actual Oculus Rift with your S7?
I must have missed that special, the only special I saw around that time had Galaxy Gear's which used some Oculous technology

9:22 PM
@AJHenderson - I'll pedal it back a little. I don't think it was a Rift, but like you were saying, some lower level Oculus tech ... it didn't have the ear phones and the head piece wasn't as good. It was more like a cheap piece of plastic which held the GS7 in place with some lenses which allowed you to see the screen at 2" away.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 yeah, those are a joke. I had them before my Vive. It's a nice taste, but VR isn't really VR until it's hooked up to a powerful enough computer and has the ability to track your head position (not just orientation) and what your hands are doing
if you can't interact with stuff, it's kind of pointless
and having your head not move is kind of nauseating

Agreed
The computer/video card has enough horsepower to run VR stuff, but I don't even want to think about it. When it gets like the movies ... then we'll see ;-)

Rift and Vive are pretty comparable technically, except that Rift is owned by Facebook and Oculus manages to make Facebook look slightly less evil, not because they are so good, but because they are so bad

yeah, I read the book
should be interesting
I expect the movie will be better than the book
it's an odd story that really lends itself more towards film than a book

9:29 PM
If you watch the trailer, there's a lot of other movies woven into the movie. I think the "movie cameos" are going to keep people watching it.

a lot of the book itself is just a trip down memory lane

Starring dude is the guy from Baby Driver, right?

not sure, I've only seen the one trailer in theaters recently
I've got moviepass, so I'm at the theater fairly regularly

Nope, not the same guy
Ansel Elgort was Baby driver ... Tye Sheridan is this guy.

interestingly, the most insane VR game I've played is actually Elite Dangerous
I've got a full HOTAS setup for it
and the ability to fly around the galaxy in a simulated spaceship is quite insane
not to mention a massive advantage over non-VR players
the ability to turn my head, track an enemy and target them by looking at them while keeping my hands on the stick and throttle is nuts
driving games are fairly crazy too, but they push the GPU pretty hard still since there is a lot more going on in rendering good driving visuals vs rendering space

9:54 PM
@AJHenderson - That sounds pretty awesome. I could see where it would be useful for some of the games I play (if it were available) like TitanFall2 ... As it stands right now, if I want to view what is going on around me while moving in a continuous direction, I have to automatically shift my movement direction in relation to my look angle, or stop altogether to see what's going on.
If looking around while moving, you have to continually change your movement directions ... while you get used to it after a while, doing it on the fly would allow you to be more natural in your game play.

10:16 PM
Yeah, mech warrior 2 was actually one of the super early vr games
It supported head tracking for independent movement and look direction
Granted the resolution was horribly low

10:50 PM
@AJHenderson it annoys me so much. I bought it on early beta, and got a full hotas setup, but despite getting advice, asking for guidance on Arqade etc I can't get past the training missions, so have never been able to play it. Utter waste of money

11:07 PM
@RoryAlsop I'll have to help you out some time
I have giant ships
If I watch what you are doing I can see what the problem is

11:42 PM
@flyk tried to help. Various folks did. I've lost hope unfortunately
I played original Elite until I was ranked dangerous. Played frontier for ages. Pity this one just doesn't work

11:56 PM
@RoryAlsop - It's only because you suck ;-) ... I mean, I would suck worse, but who's counting?
