I would also challenge her to produce proof that standby mode on the monitor was costing more than my time to reconnect the monitor and discuss her actions with HR.
If someone turns off my computer, they had better be ready for the angry eyes and a talking-to from management about how they just cost me the results of an overnight test.

@BobCross - Not to mention wear/tear on the cord/monitor connection. It wasn't designed to have it disconnected every time she had an "issue". Connect after installation; leave it there until either new installation or moving said monitor.
@BobCross - I believe it was just the monitor in this case, but to me the computer would be the same situation. We have mandates at work which require the computers to stay up 24/7, whether being used or not. This is so patches can be applied if needed. It's also because the computer will get dropped off of the network if the network cannot talk to it for a period of time. Security concerns there. Think of all the hours which would be spent reattaching a computer to the network. Argh.

Exactly. If one of my computers is off for too long, it will be kicked off the network until I get permission to bring it back online. Even if the network cable is connected, it won't be able to get to anything I need to do my work. This is lost work and has real impact on things that I've heard are pretty important.

We have people which run stuff overnight. They do 3D rendering. Yah, they'd be pissed if their computer was turned off at the end of day. Would not be pretty.

"Workplace violence is a bad thing." - I think it scares people when I say that over and over again out loud.... ;-)

1:31 AM
@BobCross - Even doubly so when you start chanting it like you just came back from a retreat at the Peoples Temple.

... which I would never do because that would be silly.

Completely

You are not of the body!

Heh, nice :o)

Okay brain, it’s time to get some work done. No one is here yet, this is the perfect creativity time. Wake up!

@BobCross If anyone messed with my workstation, there’d be hell to pay. Or at least pointed stares.
Here’s a fun one; that vibration from the front on the G35? Missing two lug nuts. Hope it didn’t Waller-out the wheel.
Power steering pump sounds like cat torture, and not in the “I hate my neighbor’s cat” good way. O’Reilly tried to sell me normal PS fluid. Car takes ATF. Billy Bob at the counter argued with me about it for ten minutes. Good times.

7:02 PM
@DavidLively - Gotta love Billy Bob ... he means well.

7:14 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 :)

7:35 PM
I think that's common with many Japanese cars right? Seems like something he'd be aware of. I had a Celica that took ATF.

@JPhi1618 - There's a lot of cars which use ATF, including American.

Haven't owned a lot of American.

I should have just said a lot of cars in general use ATF for the power steering.

Is it possible for the OBDII to not ever set the readiness codes but also not set any trouble codes?
I thought it was pretty binary - checks pass and it's "ready" or something fails and a trouble code is set.

Yes
It's just in a not ready state, but not have any codes.
Is that way until it meets readiness.

7:46 PM
Right, but if it's a car you normally drive, it should get ready?

Some drive cycles are pretty complicated. Usually it will come in fairly quickly. If it doesn't do something, it may not complete readiness. Doesn't mean something is wrong or a code should pop.
I don't think it would be there for ever, but it could for a while.

Yea, makes sense. Once "ready', do you know when that resets? Will it clear overnight? Or just when the battery is disconnected or its manually cleared?

You mean, gets reset back to "unready" (clear all of the indicators)?

Right. Once ready, does anything happen to make it unready?
I guess if a test fails obviously.

It clears when the battery is disconnected (loses all power), when it is manually cleared, or when something goes out of whack (O2 sensor goes bad or whatever).

7:54 PM
But it's not like every morning you have to drive a certain amount to make it ready again?

The last one is just an "unready" state. It may be just one indicator which is bad, but it will still be in an unready state.
No, should not reset overnight.

Ok, good. That was my understanding of it.

8:08 PM
@JPhi1618 - I see why you were asking now, lol. :o)

Ha, yea.
that got a little chatty, I know...

No worries.

1 hour later…
9:23 PM
The Solstice, G35 and Escalade all use ATF. Pretty surprising that the guy didn’t know. I think he just wasn’t Googling correctly (or whatever their in-house POS search engine is called)

Q: Increase volume of audible warnings

user350392017 Kia Sorento SX, how do I increase the volume on audible warnings like the lane departure warning? I can barely hear any of the audible warnings

step 1: turn down the radio
step 2: finished

10:26 PM
I think I might add step 1a: No, really, turn it more down. Nobody needs to hear that racket outside your car. More. No, more. ;-)

1 hour later…
11:30 PM
@BobCross - And heck, that seems to fall within the SE realm of "be nice" ... At least you're suggesting the OP be nice to everyone else. Works for me.

Full disclosure: not feeling particularly nice today. Because reasons. F me, world.
