I would also challenge her to produce proof that standby mode on the monitor was costing more than my time to reconnect the monitor and discuss her actions with HR.
If someone turns off my computer, they had better be ready for the angry eyes and a talking-to from management about how they just cost me the results of an overnight test.
@BobCross - Not to mention wear/tear on the cord/monitor connection. It wasn't designed to have it disconnected every time she had an "issue". Connect after installation; leave it there until either new installation or moving said monitor.
@BobCross - I believe it was just the monitor in this case, but to me the computer would be the same situation. We have mandates at work which require the computers to stay up 24/7, whether being used or not. This is so patches can be applied if needed. It's also because the computer will get dropped off of the network if the network cannot talk to it for a period of time. Security concerns there. Think of all the hours which would be spent reattaching a computer to the network. Argh.
Exactly. If one of my computers is off for too long, it will be kicked off the network until I get permission to bring it back online. Even if the network cable is connected, it won't be able to get to anything I need to do my work. This is lost work and has real impact on things that I've heard are pretty important.
We have people which run stuff overnight. They do 3D rendering. Yah, they'd be pissed if their computer was turned off at the end of day. Would not be pretty.
@BobCross If anyone messed with my workstation, there’d be hell to pay. Or at least pointed stares.
Here’s a fun one; that vibration from the front on the G35? Missing two lug nuts. Hope it didn’t Waller-out the wheel.
Power steering pump sounds like cat torture, and not in the “I hate my neighbor’s cat” good way. O’Reilly tried to sell me normal PS fluid. Car takes ATF. Billy Bob at the counter argued with me about it for ten minutes. Good times.
Some drive cycles are pretty complicated. Usually it will come in fairly quickly. If it doesn't do something, it may not complete readiness. Doesn't mean something is wrong or a code should pop.
I don't think it would be there for ever, but it could for a while.
Yea, makes sense. Once "ready', do you know when that resets? Will it clear overnight? Or just when the battery is disconnected or its manually cleared?
It clears when the battery is disconnected (loses all power), when it is manually cleared, or when something goes out of whack (O2 sensor goes bad or whatever).
The Solstice, G35 and Escalade all use ATF. Pretty surprising that the guy didn’t know. I think he just wasn’t Googling correctly (or whatever their in-house POS search engine is called)
@BobCross - And heck, that seems to fall within the SE realm of "be nice" ... At least you're suggesting the OP be nice to everyone else. Works for me.
