Heyoo

10:03 AM
@Paramone morning :)
@Paramone did you ever manage to get around to fitting the HID kit to your A6?

1 hour later…
11:37 AM
@motosubatsu No, I haven't yet. I might actually skip it as I'm fine with the way it is now.. Also, I don't want to install the HID kit without the 'ball-bulb' unit. It makes the HID look very ugly imo
Instead of the 'ball' lighting up, you get the entire unit lit up - it looks like.

Oh hey @DavidLively do you need your HPT kit back? It's just been sitting in my room since I moved
and good morning, everyone c:

Hey everyone

3:18 PM
How's it going @Zaid?

Things are good
I'm on the road be back in a bit

3:33 PM
@Ceshion Sure, if you're done with it. How's your boost level since fixing the clamp / extracting bolt / etc.?
I haven't had time for car stuff in awhile.

Seems to top out around 19-20 in lower gears- I haven't exactly gotten to mess with it much in top gear though

G35 has a weird speed-dependent vibration that starts around 30MPH and gets progressively worse. Might've lost a weight on one of the wheels, haven't really looked. It's annoying to have spent 20 hours stuffing an engine in the car and now I can't drive it.
That sounds reasonable.
If you get time, I'd look at "torque management" setting, probably want it turned off if it isn't already. You can load your tune in the editor and check it out without having to connect to the car.
If you record a couple of minutes of logs, I can look at a few other things before you send it back.

Sure! I'll log the next time I go out on the ELM
Is torque management the learn-down thing?

I think it's related.
The HPT will log a lot more stuff than an ELM interface. I think it talks on the CAN bus
There was some stuff I had to enable / disable to get rid of the learn-down after I installed my turbo kit, trying to remember what it was. Even with the tune from the kit vendor there were some tweaks necessary.
Still, 19-20PSI is pretty awesome.
I assume you know the thing about switching the traction control / stability control modes?
(Sorry, I'm sure you've researched all this to death.)
Oh, here's my fun development from a couple of weeks ago:
It took a year to get that bumper.
11 months and 23 days, to be more precise. Looking for a GXP bumper as I really don't want to wait another year for this one.

3:48 PM
@DavidLively What happened?

Yeah, I only do it for stoplight drags pretty much, but nice to know about

@Myself My ABS is inactive - I replaced the master cylinder recently and there's a code that I haven't cleared (I don't have the right tool for that, and it wasn't a super-high priority.) I ran over someone's spare tire on a poorly-light road, nailed the brakes because I'm an idiot, and slid off into one of those wooden poles they put on the outside of turns to keep you from going down a hill.
On the 'Vette - same system pretty much - I just turned mine off on the track, but it was great on the few occasions I found myself driving in the snow.

@DavidLively apart from the bumper everything (including you) is ok?

I tell students at the track we call that "the spin button."
@Myself Yeah, it's just the bumper cover and intercooler piping on the driver side, bottom. Actual bumper is fine.
@Myself Which is pretty interesting since there's no foam behind that one. I had to take it out to get this fascia on. But, the big steel bumper thingy looks fine.
I just painted that thing about three months ago. :(

@DavidLively so, minimal damage?

4:04 PM
Yeah. It'll be fine. Just annoying more than anything.

That's honestly tragic, does Norm sell those?

4:17 PM
@Ceshion Yep
He makes everything to order; doesn't keep any stock around. And it's a one-man shop.
Very high quality stuff, just takes forever.
It took so long to get the bumper and fenders that he sent me some side skirts for free. I haven't installed those; ran out of paint.
Fun painting pics:

I'm not looking forward to replacing my fenders then

4:31 PM
You were just painting in the garage??

My dad's shop.
Garage, yes.
We built a temporary paint booth. Worked pretty well. It's not perfect, but I'm proud of it. Painting is easy - it's all the sanding and prep work that's a pain.
Fenders shouldn't take him that long. I think he makes them in batches. Also, he had a fire in his shop shortly after I placed my order, which made it take a lot longer than normal.
He'll paint them for you, as well. I don't remember what he charges for that but I seem to recall it being pretty reasonable. The flip side of that is that I had to do some trimming to get everything to fit correctly. A lot less than any other fiberglass parts I've had in the past, but still some finessing required.
Off to work.

@DavidLively - It's the prep work which makes or breaks the paint job.
