Thanks, fellow, for your time!
no problem :)
I don't even know where to start to solve this.
Do you load your javascript files in the correct order?
first jquery then jquery ui (if your are using it, then spservices
does it work correctly with google chrome?
17:48
just a second...
yes, it works in Chrome
what version of IE are you running?
11
I think I have a clue... hold on...
I think it has to do with spservices cascading list
okay, it is in the code
yeah it's one of those things that it would be easier to get a look at it firsthand
that's just it
I am not able to debug in IE
everything works in FF and Chrome
and if I try to debug in IE, it works
but it doesn't work when not in dev mode
so how do I debug it?
This is mostly what my question is about
I'm glad to be able to find where the issue is, but that doesn't help me solve it
the script not working is really a different problem
if you change the document version does the console show the errors?
17:59
my problem is not being able to debug it
you mean change the doc mode in the master page?
or in IE dev tools?
yes
no no
dev tools
in dev tools, well it says its in mode 8, the default
in dev tools if I change the mode to 9 it works.
if I change it to 8 it works
if I change it to 7 it works
it works if dev tools are on
but not when it aint
I hate Internet Explorer
The problem isn't in your code. If it were, it wouldn't work with dev tools open. You need to delete the console.log lines from your code
I'm running sharepoint 2010, so I have to set devmode 8 in the masterpage
@ErinL what?
delete console.log?
really?
You have debugging lines in your code that log to the console. This only works when the dev console is open.
Which is incredibly difficult to debug, because it suddenly works when you open the console. lol
18:03
the browser isn't smart enough to ignore that?
nope
IE
Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!!!!
okay, let me try that...
It's one of those things you learn after years of coding in SharePoint, since it emulates IE8
good catch Erin
(also, SPServices debugging won't return data if the console is open. it's enough to drive anyone mad)
18:06
what?
@ErinL that solved it!
nice save Erin!
+1
Thank you all very much!
Halleluia!
You just solved for me pounds and pounds of purchases of migraine medicine.
I never would have figured that out.
If you'll accept my answer, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
No problem.
I sure will.
I know... I don't even know how I figured that out the first time it happened to me.
