It depend on what the onion theme is referencing.

Sir Davos was a bad guy that became a knight, so it was fitting to the theme of reversal post

but, my idea is that it must be a reference to the final fantasy onion knight.

I also considered Dark Sould, but it would be a iron helm then. The knitted one does not ressemble Dark Soul at all.

Nor it really resemble the Onion Knight hat, but it is still closer.

This is true. In fact I noted last night that it had the lowest views-to-votes ratio of any question I'd seen on PPCG

It was like 15 upvotes and 135 views when I went to bed

I also had another theory, that it was somehow related to the way you unlock the class in the DS remake of FF3

I learned that the staff thinks by formulas, not criteria. They will chose math based conditions.

Anything more intricate is a no, unless it is manually awarded like "eureka" or the boat one

I've never seen a question get 27 upvotes in less than a day, so I wouldn't be surprised if it tripped some sort of algorithm
